-Ricky Warwick Announces Two Solo Albums And Tour!

Ricky Warwick has been a very busy man! Over the past year, he has co-written and recorded the second album for Black Star Riders (the UK top 20 album THE KILLER INSTINCT) and toured extensively to support that release.

In addition, he has recorded not one but two (!) new solo albums! These albums will be released February 26, 2016 through Nuclear Blast Entertainment.

Ricky explains, “While we were working on the new BSR album, I just got into a very productive song writing zone. The songs just kept coming and coming.”

Ricky writes songs in a number of styles and many of these tracks would not be at home on a Black Star Riders album. So, he decided to record and release these albums as solo projects. Ricky continues, “Black Star Riders is my top priority. But I really wanted these songs to come out. The album’s been a long time coming and in fact we’ve even made two albums here; electric and acoustic. We’ve played with some great musicians on this album. I’m excited to be on Nuclear Blast they’ve looked after us really well with Black Star Riders. I think that the Black Star Riders fans will really dig this solo stuff too so absolutely delighted to be getting it out there.”

The first of these two albums is entitled WHEN PATSY CLINE WAS CRAZY (AND GUY MITCHELL SANG THE BLUES). The second is an acoustic album called HEARTS ON TREES. Both albums will be bundled together in a special package and released as a double CD.

Ricky co-wrote almost all of the songs on this double album with his friend Sam Robinson and there’s a very personal feel to both albums. Black Star Riders fans may notice an immediate connection with the catchy hooks on the more hard-rock centered WHEN PATSY CLINE WAS CRAZY… but the more stripped back acoustic album HEARTS ON TREES shows a more tender side to Ricky’s abilities and the powerful lyrics really hold their own. Lyrical themes on this record range from war to religion to relationship regrets with many of the tracks about Northern Ireland where he was born and raised. The acoustic tracks are by no means simplistic musically however with guitar melodies ranging from Celtic folk sounds to broody blues riffs and even more psychedelic fuzzy styles, there’s lots of diversity.

The release also boasts an array of acclaimed musicians with guests such as; Joe Elliot (Def Leppard), Damon Johnson (Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders), Andy Cairns (Therapy?), Billy Morrison (Billy Idol), Nathan Connolly (Snow Patrol), Ginger Wildheart, Jake Burns (Stiff Little Fingers), and Richard Fortus (Guns N’ Roses, Dead Daisies).

When the conversation changed to possibly doing some touring to support this release, Ricky was on board. But he wanted to have a full band to bring these great songs to fruition on the stage. So, he contacted some of the amazing musicians he has befriended over the years and virtually overnight The Fighting Hearts were born. Tapping his old band mate Gary Sullivan from one of his post-Almighty bands, (sic) to play the drums was a no-brainer. Gary had recorded all the drums on the PATSY CLINE record and is an extremely talented musician. Next up was a call to his Black Star Riders band mate bassist Robbie Crane. Robbie was thrilled to be a part of it. Guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite completed the lineup. Having previously played for such luminaries as The Mission and Peter Murphy, Mark added that special something that made the whole band gel.

To kick things off, Ricky Warwick & The Fighting Hearts will be supporting Belfast’s own favorite sons, Stiff Little Fingers, on their UK tour in February/March of 2016.

Ricky comments:
“To be going on tour with Stiff Little Fingers is a dream come true for me ‘cos they’re my childhood heroes so I just can’t wait to get out there.”

Tickets are on sale now.

Robbie Crane (bass)
Mark Thwaite (guitars)
Gary Sullivan (drums)

-Seven Witches Unleash New Album, THE WAY OF THE WICKED, And Video, “World Without Man”

New Jersey metallists Seven Witches are ready to assault your senses once again, with a fierce new album, THE WAY OF THE WICKED. Comprised of singer Anthony Cross, guitarist Jack Frost, bassist Ronnie Parkes, and drummer Johnny Kelly, Seven Witches picks up exactly where their hard-hitting last album left off, 2013’s REBIRTH. And this is especially apparent in the album’s second video, “World Without Man.”

“When I got the demo version of the music, I knew these were the lyrics I wanted to use for it,” recalls Cross. “The opening line was something that I had jotted down some time ago. ‘How would it be, if one day, man no longer was?'”

“Think about it… you’ve seen documentaries that show you that if human life ceased to exist, the planet would start to heal. Lyrically, this is where this came from. I’m also a big fan of the Richard Matheson story, ‘I Am Legend,’ so that fed into it as well. So really, if everyone and everything was gone, how would you go on with your life?”

The “World Without Man” video can be viewed via this link:

And according to Cross, his song writing union with Frost is already a career highlight. “Writing with Jack Frost is a treat! He will usually come up with suggestions and ideas that I would never think of. And in the end we are both happy with the result.” And the union is already paying off, as evidenced by the song “World Without Man,” and the full-length THE WAY OF THE WICKED.

Rhapsody Of Fire To Release INTO THE LEGEND In January!

Italian symphonic metal kings Rhapsody Of Fire are proud to announce the release of their upcoming studio album which will be titled INTO THE LEGEND.

Alex Staropoli states: “After two years of intense work, including composing and arranging, after seven months spent in four different studios, this huge and ambitious production is coming to an end. We are right now mixing the songs, going through hundreds and hundreds hours of recordings to make an album that will feature over 65 minutes of breathtaking music, an album that will gather and exploit the best elements this band ever had in a modern way, and to build a musical landscape that will have no equals in the world’s heavy metal scene.”

The release of INTO THE LEGEND is scheduled for January 2016.

Solution .45 Reveal Cover Artwork!

The new album of Solution .45, NIGHTMARES IN THE WAKING STATE – PART I, will be out on November 20th! It will be available as CD and Gatefold Blue 2-Vinyl (strictly limited to 500 units).

Masterplan’s KEEP YOUR DREAM ALIVE DVD/CD & Blu-Ray/CD Out On October 9th!

After releasing five highly-praised studio albums since the band debuted with their self-titled debut in early 2003, melodic metallers Masterplan are set to unleash their first ever Live release on October 9th. KEEP YOUR DREAM ALIVE will be available as DVD/CD and Blu-ray/CD sets, both including the entire show from Masters Of Rock festival, recordings from Wacken Open Air, footage from the band’s latest Asian tour and ProgPower USA, as well as all five official Masterplan video clips. Leaves’ Eyes’ “King Of Kings” Lyric Video Available!

Ohrenfeindt’s New Video And Album Out Now!

The new Ohrenfeindt album MOTOR AN! is out now, available as CD, Digi-pak, Fanbox, and Vinyl (incl. CD).

And check out the brand new video clip for “Motor An!”

21Octayne’s New Video Clip “When You Go!”

Their brand new video clip “When You Go” turned out to be a big surprise! German rock band 21Octayne (featuring vocalist Hagen Grohe (The Joe Perry Project), guitarist Marco Wriedt (ex-Axxis) and drummer Alex Landenburg (Rhapsody)), go unusual ways: not only 21Octayne chose children for the clip’s starring roles, they also tell a continuous story.

“We are extremely happy how things were unfolding with the clip,” the band states. “Looking back, we were more than lucky that everything fell into place suddenly. When doing video clips, of course the result very much depends on the quality of actors — especially when you work with children — not to forget the director’s intuition and knowledge. With seven days of filming scheduled and a real, lively storyline it definitely was a risky undertaking. But now seeing the final result, we are totally blown away by ‘When You Go.’ It turned out into a real movie and we are proud to have such an amazing clip representing our song. Also, all this was a lesson for us in another way: just like when we write new songs; follow your gut feeling and believe in what you do. We are certain that this way the most real and authentic music comes to light too.”

“When You Go”

The new (sophomore) 21Octayne album 2.0 will be released on September 25th (EU)/October 2nd in North America. Beside standard CD and Digi-pak (three bonus tracks) also a special edition limited to 300 units (including Digi-pak, magic mug, bag, signed autograph card, and signed guitar pick) is available.

-Killen Announce Reunion With Drummer Carl Canedy (The Rods, Canedy)

New York cult heavy metal band Killen has officially reunited and joined forces with legendary drummer / producer Carl Canedy (The Rods, Canedy).

The band will showcase their new electrifying lineup in Europe at the 2016 Headbangers Open Air festival in Germany with other European and US tour dates to be announced shortly.

Drummer Carl Canedy comments:
“Killen has recorded in my studio many times over the years, so I’ve known and am very familiar with their music. I’m very excited to be able to play these songs live during future shows in Europe and the United States. Long live true heavy metal…”

Killen guitarist Mitch Thylacine comments:
“We are psyched and honored to have Carl behind the kit. Carl’s a monster on the drums and a metal icon.”

The original debut self-titled album KILLEN was recently re-mixed, re-mastered and re-released on CD and vinyl by Greece-based record label Sonic Age Records / Cult Metal Classics in summer 2015. The new CD comes with new cover artwork, the RESTLESS IS THE WITCH EP bonus tracks, and a 20-page booklet which includes rare photos / lyrics and full band history.

Track Listing:
1. Scream In The Night
2. Challenge Of Eternity
3. The Marauder
4. Soldiers In Steel
5. Victima
6. Stricken By Darkness
7. Metal Meets Metal
8. Behind The Gate Of Purgatorious
9. Killeness (Blandus Interitus)
10. Scream In The Night (Live)
11. Victima
12. The Resurrection
13. Vampire
14. Birth Of A King
15. The Marauder (Live)

A 100-copy, limited-edition Box Set is also being released by Sonic Age Records / Cult Metal Classics during October 2015. The massive collector’s set includes CD and vinyl copies of the re-mixed / re-mastered KILLEN album along with a poster and T-shirt.

Killen guitarist Mitch Thylacine has provided the following update about the re-released debut CD / vinyl album:
“I busted my ass working tirelessly locating and restoring the original tapes… cleaning up, punching up and re-mixing the original tracks for a clearer, more powerful sound without compromising the integrity of the original recording so it sounds much more how it was intended to from the beginning.

“I had not listened to these tapes in over 25 years. They brought back a lot of memories of being kids in a studio for the first time recording our debut LP.

“With the technology available today I was able to unbury and EQ a lot of the sound as well as being able to use some alternate takes especially on the vocal tracks which would have been impossible in 1986. I enjoyed working on the tracks and hopefully the fans will enjoy the results on the newly available CD and vinyl album.”

Killen CD/vinyl re-issue live video advertisement:

Killen Biography:
Staten Island musicians Mitch Thylacine (lead guitar), Mark Vasquez (bass), Butch Tyler (drums), and Vic Barron (vocals) hit the booming New York metal scene in 1986 with a dungeon-themed stage show to visually complement with their unique sound, separating them from other bands of the time… pounding out numbers like “Scream In The Night” and “The Marauder.”

By 1987 their self-titled debut album was distributed worldwide by Important Records.

On their next recording session Thylacine (the band’s song writer) branched out into lead vocals on the track “Vampire,” ultimately taking over vocal duties completely on the RESTLESS IS THE WITCH EP (after Barron left the band in 1989).

RESTLESS IS THE WITCH also featured Joe Coffey on guitar and Jeff Tull on bass.

For their follow-up full-length studio album Killen worked with producer Carl Canedy (The Rods, Anthrax, Overkill) but by 1990 the music scene had changed. Grunge was in fashion and while the band searched for a label the record was shelved and to this day remains unreleased.

While Killen never “broke up” its band members slowly drifted apart to pursue personal interests. Thylacine continued to write and perform in various projects.

In 2015, Sonic Age Records / Cult Metal Classics released a newly re-mixed and re-mastered version of the original KILLEN debut album on CD and vinyl.

5. The Magi
6. Quitters Never Win
7. Tempter Of Evil
8. When Freedom Fails
9. The Kingdom Of Heaven
10. Bells Are Tolling

Signum Regis biography:
Signum Regis was formed in 2007 by bass player Ronnie König. The highly respected vocalist Göran Edman (ex. Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum) joined the band and they started to work on their debut album. The self-titled debut album was released during 2008 through Locomotive Records and received great reviews from around the world.

In 2010 Signum Regis signed with Inner Wound Recordings and released the impressive concept album THE EYES OF POWER, still with Göran on vocals. The album was received really well, especially in Europe. With this album it was clear that Signum Regis had found their own sound within the melodic/neoclassical metal scene.

The third Signum Regis album EXODUS was released in 2013 and it featured many different vocalists like Göran Edman (ex. Yngwie Malmsteen), Lance King (ex. Pyramaze, Balance Of Power), Matt Smith (Theocracy), Michael Vescera (Obsession), Daisa Munhoz (Vandroya, Soulspell), and more. EXODUS was a bit more straight melodic metal than the previous album, but the classic Signum Regis elements were still there.

Early 2014 the band decided to make Mayo Petranin their new lead vocalist. Mayo had already done many shows with the band and he also contributed the vocals to one of the songs on EXODUS so it felt like a natural move. During 2013 and 2014 Signum Regis did some shows in their home country Slovakia, but they also performed in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland.

During 2014 Signum Regis started to work on new material and it was decided that a six-track EP would be released in May 2015 and the fourth full-length album during fall 2015. The EP entitled THROUGH THE STORM received excellent feedback from fans and media, with many of them calling it the best Signum Regis release so far. Two music videos was also recorded and released for the tracks “Living Well” and “Come And Take It.”

Both THROUGH THE STORM and CHAPTER IV: THE RECKONING show that Signum Regis is a band that is constantly developing and improving everything from song writing and musicianship to production and the visual part of the band. Signum Regis will surely win over many new fans in the melodic metal scene with these releases.

Band founder Ronnie König comments about the new album CHAPTER IV: THE RECKONING:
“It was the plan since the get-go, to make our best album so far. After releasing the EP earlier this year, it was clear that the bar was set pretty high. We worked very hard and we believe, that we managed to lift the bar even higher in every aspect. Some of the songs on the album will become the classics of Signum Regis, that’s for sure. There will be 10 new songs on the album, none of them appeared on the EP, which makes both the album and the THROUGH THE STORM EP a good buy for the fans.”

The mastering of the album was handled by Jens Bogren (Symphony X, Opeth, Arch Enemy) and the artwork was created by Jan Yrlund (Delain, Apocalyptica, Korpiklaani).

Signum Regis lineup:
Mayo Petranin – Lead Vocals
Filip Kolus – Guitars
Ronnie König – Bass, backing vocals
Jan Tupy – Keyboards, backing vocals
Jaro Jancula – Drums

Special guests on CHAPTER IV: THE RECKONING: Maestro Mistheria and Roger Staffelbach

-Chandler Mogel Update

[Note: This comes from the ChandlerMogel.com newsletter. – Tim]

Chandler’s New Project Radio Exile Announces Release For October With AOR Heaven

In the post era of the FM-dominated airwaves comes a new generation of classic rock, Radio Exile.

On rare occasions, some magical-artistic vibe goes out calling up a unique set of musicians to create groundbreaking music. When truly great musicians come together, the resulting brotherhood/sisterhood embraces their diversity, enabling them to collaborate so as to push through otherwise insurmountable boundaries. Collaboratively, they each pour the very best of what makes them cutting edge individually, into one dynamic presentation. For the rest of us, we are compelled to listen over and over.

When Charlie Calv decided to send out the vibe, he probably didn’t anticipate collective perfection, but that is what he got. When Charlie and Chandler Mogel wrote the music and lyrics for these songs, they could not have anticipated the individual masterpiece each would become. But that is what they got. Take two brilliant writers and musicians, collaborating with some of the best individual players in the world and you understand why this music is so strong. Radio Exile is one of the very best hard rock projects to come along in many years.

Individually, the musicians that come together to form Radio Exile perform on stage or in the studio with the greatest artists of our time. This list includes Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Hall & Oates, Allison Krauss, Billy Idol, John Waite, members of Pink Floyd, Styx, Journey, Van Halen, the Rolling Stones, and Black Sabbath. This talent pool has been tapped, used, and appreciated over the years. Now, together as one, five brilliantly successful, creative worlds collide in a panoramic musical explosion.

The lineup is notable with Charlie on keyboards and Chandler on lead vocals. Jimmy Leahey contributes his soulful guitar playing, and all are constructed on the rhythm foundations crafted by bassist Kenny Aaronson and percussion specialist Dave Anthony. Their impressive resumes list their many accomplishments, but only hint at what Radio Exile truly represents. What makes this project so epic is that these five distinguished artists draw us in to experience their passion and love for music right along with them. From the hard-hitting, bombastic percussion of “High Road, High Price,” to the gospel infused “A Cross on Stone” — featuring the voices of Jessie Wagner (Kid Rock and Lenny Kravitz), Joe Cerisano (TSO and Silver Condor) and Amy Harnell (Tony Harnell and The Mercury Train) — these tracks are sure to stand the test of time.

Enlisting Grammy-nominated engineer/producer Steve DeAcutis (Vanilla Fudge, Cyndi Lauper, Corey Glover, etc.) and veteran producer/A&R man Steve Lunt (Britney Spears, ‘NSync, Joan Jett, etc.), the latter who first honed his skills alongside the legendary Mutt Lange as vocalist of the chart-topping British band City Boy, the guys checked into the SPA (Sound Spa Recording) and an immediate synergy took hold. The finishing touches were then added by top mastering engineer Alan Douches (Fleetwood Mac, Yes, Train, Pete Townsend, etc.) at his West West Side Music facility.

Reuniting some old friends, and making some new, RADIO EXILE is a fantastic blend of hard rock that will not disappoint the existing fans of any of these musicians. In fact, Radio Exile is sure to gain a new generation of fans who will be hungry for more. When the sure hand of destiny channels the melodic heart, we celebrate the creation. RADIO EXILE is exactly that and more. Just listen…

The album is set to release on AOR Heaven in Mainland Europe and Cargo Music in the UK on October 23rd and followed shortly by releases in the US and Japan. Pre-orders are available on the website at http://www.radioexile.net/ . Keep checking back for updates!

-Swedish Benesser Releases Sequel To “One Of The Most Powerful Debuts In The 21st Century”

On the 10th of September, Benesser releases the album PURPOSE & CAUSE — a sequel to the critically-acclaimed debut THE START OF SOMETHING NEW. This album is even more characterized by the exquisitely modified guitar amplifiers and singer Robert Olsson’s renowned vocal resources.

When the debut album came out in 2013, the response was immediate — Sweden’s main music magazine wrote “one of the most powerful debuts of the 21st century” and handed out a full six out of six stars. They we’re praised by European music press and got signed to a Swedish label. Now, Benesser has parted ways with the label but are back to take on the challenging task of following up a success story.

“We wanted to create a masterpiece. This album is for those longing for hope and genuineness…”
– Robert Olsson, singer and bassist

PURPOSE & CAUSE contains everything from heavy rock riffs to groovy funk. Apart from the usual Benesser setting (drums, guitar, bass, vocals) there’s a mix of harmonica, piano, organ, soul harmonies, and acoustic guitar — making it hard to define the genre. Like many musicians, the band themselves don’t care too much about the definitions. The goal in their song writing process is always to bring life to the lyrics, written by drummer David Olsson.

Guitarist Henric Hermansson has become a well-known name on guitar forums around the world for his modified tube amplifiers. From the soldering fume-filled living room in Falun, Sweden, the amps are sent out across Europe and the US. Since the band started out in ’98, Henric’s interest in guitar sounds has had plenty of time to thrive during numerous hours of listening and tweaking in the rehearsal studio.

“It was frustrating when Henric would zone out during every single rehearsal the first few years — strumming the same chord a million times, tweak something and never really get satisfied… Now 10 years later I’m so grateful for the result.”
– David Olsson, drummer in Benesser

The album was recorded in MapleTone Studios, deep in the forests of Dalecarlia, Sweden — produced by sound magician Henrik Gennert who has worked with bands like Katatonia and Earthside. Together they experimented to find an organic sound that would sustain all the way to the final master, and ended up recording all tracks live.

When vocalist Robert Olsson isn’t singing with Benesser you find him in some unexpected contexts from a rock point of view. Apart from having been a member of the prestigious Falu Chamber Choir the last few years he also sings with Lugnet Gospel Choir, performing with some of Sweden’s greatest artists.

PURPOSE & CAUSE will be released throughout Europe on the 10th of September on Benesser’s own label — Benesser Music.

Track List:
1. Naked We Die
2. Purpose & Cause
3. Something In The Way
4. Waterfalls

“I’ve got Heavy Metal music in my blood
And I’d like to give it to you if I could”

We, who grew up in the middle ’80s, were singing the lyrics of “Heavy Metal Mania” in all rock clubs we visited, as this song of Holocaust was, the absolute metal hymn for the whole ’80s and the ’90s. The mighty Metallica, among many other bands, paid tribute to this British band when they covered “The Small Hours” both live and on disc.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to announce that we signed a worldwide record deal with the legendary NWOBHM heroes Holocaust and we will soon release their next studio album PREDATOR in both CD and LP format!

Osiris Reissue

We can now announce our fifth reissue for the month of September. The Netherlands’ Osiris finds its sole album, FUTURITY AND HUMAN DEPRESSIONS, getting the deluxe two-CD treatment from Divebomb Records.

The first 100 customers to order will get a free, limited edition Osiris logo magnet.

FUTURITY AND HUMAN DEPRESSIONS (Deluxe Edition) will be available in our store starting September 25th.

Streaming Here:

As the European metal scene headed into the ’90s there was a noticeable shift towards death metal and in the Netherlands it was no different with acts like Gorefest, Pestilence, and Asphyx all quickly gaining popularity across the continent. Osiris being a progressive thrash band not only in sound, but also spirit they choose a different route — one with high-pitched melodic vocals and complex, lengthy song arrangements.

With an average age of only 19 when recording their first demo Osiris were able to grab the attention of the European press who applauded their efforts for successfully channeling bands like WatchTower, Sieges Even, and Mekong Delta. A second demo, EQUIVOCAL QUIESCENCE, was released in early 1991 leading to their deal with Shark Records. Later in 1991, Osiris released their one and only album, FUTURITY AND HUMAN DEPRESSIONS, a progressive whirlwind consisting of seven songs and clocking in at nearly 55 minutes.

While never quite attaining the same level of popularity as their counterparts, Osiris’ FUTURITY AND HUMAN DEPRESSIONS remains a much-beloved album by progressive thrash fans still to this day. Divebomb Records is proud to present this new deluxe edition which features new mastering, both original demo tapes as well as band interview.

-Mirror: Occult Heavy Metal Conjurors Featuring Members Of Satan’s Wrath And Repulsion To Release Their Self-Titled Debut Via Metal Blade This November; First Single Posted

Occult heavy metal conjurors, Miror, will unveil the cult craftings of their self-titled debut through Metal Blade Records on November 13th, 2015.

The brainchild of bassist/diehard metal connoisseur/Satan’s Wrath vocalist Tas Danazoglou, Mirror was forged in fire following a chance meeting with London-based producer (Cathedral, Angel Witch, Paradise Lost) and accomplished drummer, Jaime Gomez Arellano. The union ultimately led to the two embarking on a shared musical vision that encompasses a classic hard-rock/proto-metal sound with tasteful song writing and musicianship. Satan’s Wrath guitarist, Stamos K., was next to join, his musical instincts and considerable production experience suiting the band’s ethos perfectly. Vocalist, Jimmy Mavromatis who, with his operatic tenor, rounded out the growing unit would subsequently join the ranks. The ouroboros was completed with the final addition of Los Angeles-based guitarist Matt Olivo whose infamy was earned as the co-founder of grindcore pioneers, Repulsion.

The recording of Mirror’s self-titled debut began in London at Orgone Studios (Ghost, Paradise Lost, Cathedral) in the autumn of 2014 with Arellano handling production duties. The recording boasts strong melodic ideas with classic, heavy riffs inspired by the sounds of UFO, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, and the like.

Created Memorial Day 2015 by three incredible bands — Circuline, Shadow Eden, and Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius — Sonic Voyage Fest’s purpose is to create a night of music that dazzles with virtuosity, ignites the senses, and pushes boundaries. Writes ProgSheet’s editor John A. Wilcox, “Sonic Voyage Fest was like General Tso’s chicken: spicy, filling, and I already want more!”

Part of Sonic Voyage Fest’s goal is also to raise consciousness of younger artists and also military veterans’ relationship with music. In the Fests band members invite dialog with fans and musicians between sets. Band members exchange notes on improvisation and composition, and other musical genres like jazz.

We are looking for sponsors to pay admission of interested veterans or students who might be going through financial hardships but would feel an event by musicians would help them. Please contact Anne Leighton, who works with Joe Deninzon, at 718-881-8183 if you can either help financially or know a veteran or student who’d benefit from going.

The Bands Who Created Sonic Voyage Fest

Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius

Led by electric violinist/vocalist Joe Deninzon ( http://www.joedeninzon.com/ ), who has been called “The Jimi Hendrix of the violin,” Stratospheerius has showcased their “frenzied mélange of progressive rock, jazz fusion, and funkabilly” throughout the world. The New York-based group has opened for The Levin Brothers (Tony and Pete), Tim Reynolds, Mickey Hart, and John Scofield… Their live performances are filled with funky dance grooves, rip-roaring guitar/violin jams, and hooks that mix jazz, funk, and rock with Gypsy influences.

Stratospheerius was a winner of the John Lennon International Songwriting Competition, and was named “Best Jam Band” in the Musician’s Atlas Independent Music Awards. Joe recently premiered “Dream Diary: Concerto For Seven String Electric Violin And Orchestra” with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra.

Shadow Eden

Shredguy Records recording artist Shadow Eden deliver well-crafted, listenable songs which feature virtuoso performances designed to please the ear of musicians and music lovers alike.

“Shadow Eden combine elements of progressive rock, fusion, and guitar-driven metal into well structured, highly musical, and very listenable tunes.” – Shred Academy

What do you get when you take two theatrical lead vocalists, a keyboard player from Juilliard, a musical savant playing guitar, and a drummer with progressive rock in his DNA? The new modern Prog Rock band Circuline.

Performing original and classic progressive rock, Circuline was founded in 2014 when former progressive rock tribute band Downing Grey member Andrew Colyer (keyboards, vocals), Bill Shannon (guitars, vocals), and Darin Brannon (drums, percussion) had a burning desire to write original material. Lead vocalists Billy Spillane and Natalie Brown were up for the challenge, having performed in countless venues as singers, actors, dancers, and rock musicians.

Circuline’s debut album features guest artists Matt Dorsey (Sound Of Contact) on bass, Randy McStine (Lo-Fi Resistance) as a song writer and vocalist, and Joe Deninzon (Stratospheerius) on electric violin. Paul Ranieri (Shadow Eden) is currently the touring bassist with the band.

“Cinematic… refined… polished… smooth as silk… not what you usually hear from a first album…” – Marty Dorfman (The Prog Doctor), House Of Prog

“There are many layers here on first listen… delicately placed strips of all manner of sounds interwoven and joined without a hint of the seam… It’s that good, and only gets better upon each playing… Trust me — You’ll know what I mean when you listen to Return yourselves.” – Paul Watson, Progarchy

In addition to Shadow Eden and Stratospheerius, the following bands are confirmed for Sonic Voyage Fest, Fall 2015:

Hailing from the fertile musical landscape of Detroit, Tiles features Chris Herin (guitar), Jeff Whittle (bass), Paul Rarick (vocals), and Mark Evans (drums). Formed in 1993, Tiles has developed a style that blends the adventure of progressive rock with an aggressive hard rock edge. The band has released five studio albums worldwide through Inside Out Music and recently commemorated their 20th anniversary with a pair of live recordings, OFF THE FLOOR 01 & 02, which serve as career retrospectives. OFF THE FLOOR 02 was nominated for a 2015 Detroit Music Award.

Tiles has completed their sixth studio album, the double CD PRETENDING TO RUN, which is scheduled for an early 2016 release. PRETENDING TO RUN is produced by Terry Brown (Rush) and features guest appearances by Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Mike Portnoy (Flying Colors, Dream Theater), Mike Stern (Miles Davis), Adam Holzman (Steven Wilson Band), Kim Mitchell (Max Webster), Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), Matthew Parmenter (Discipline), and several others. Tiles endorses Mesa/Boogie Amplification, Elixir Strings, Aquarian Drumheads, Eden Bass Amplifiers, and Ken Smith Basses & Strings.

The American art rock band Discipline formed in Detroit in 1987. Their earliest shows were memorable for raw energy and unusual theatrics. Discipline’s 1993 CD PUSH & PROFIT helped the band reach an audience beyond Detroit. After a short tour in Norway in 1993, Discipline would go on to perform regularly at US progressive rock festivals and venues throughout the 1990s. Their latest studio release is TO SHATTER ALL ACCORD (2011).

Although Discipline took its name from a King Crimson album, they are most often compared to early Genesis and Van Der Graaf Generator. The progressive rock website ProgArchives.com classifies Discipline as “symphonic prog.” Hundreds of users and reviews at the site give Discipline five-star album ratings, which designates an album as “essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music.” John Collinge, publisher of Progression Magazine, acknowledged TO SHATTER ALL ACCORD with the publication’s highest marks in his 2012 review (16 out of 16 stars).

Discipline’s festival appearances in recent years include a 2012 performance at Gettysburg’s “Rites Of Spring” festival (RoSFest), and a 2008 performance at the Northeast Art Rock Festival (NEARfest) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Shows in their native Detroit are rare but not unheard of. Members of the band have performed and collaborated with other artists on occasion, including Phideaux and Tiles.

Faded Maine

Faded Main is a metro-Detroit based rock band that has been together since 2008. Their gritty rock comes from a myriad of influences including, funk, jazz, grunge, and metal. Al Bushe’s powerful lead vocals are backed by the dual guitar sounds of Mike Batke and Craig Dipaola. The rhythm section is driven by Decibel Brown and Jeff Whittle. Faded Main focuses on storytelling with great music that still has an edge. Though Faded Main performs only a few times a year, they recently opened for Ashes Of Soma. Although music is only a hobby for these musicians, Faded Main is passionate about what they do and they plan on continuing to deliver solid rock music to their fans for years to come.

The Rob Balducci Band

Since his emergence on the music scene internationally-acclaimed guitar virtuoso, producer, composer Rob Balducci has taken the music world by storm. Balducci recently released his newest CD 821 MONROE DRIVE. Rob’s astonishing technique, melodic phrasing, and total command of the instrument instantly earned him respect amongst the international guitar and music communities.

The Rob Balducci Band has toured and shared the stage with Michael Schenker, Peter Frampton, Joe Bonamassa, Vernon Reid, Richie Kotzen, Andy Timmons, Extreme, and many more. Balducci is known for his teaching and has performed master classes / clinics for all of the major music manufacturers and top music schools in The United States, Europe. Asia and Australia.

“There are two things that make an effective musician, one is the technical ability to perform on the instrument and the second is an emotional investment in what you are playing. Rob has a really good equilibrium for the technical side of things and the emotional investment” – Steve Vai

“Five Stars, Hum-able shred! What a concept!” – Guitar World Magazine

Lovetester was founded in 1999 as a vehicle to play songs from Rick Bartow’s solo CD ASSTRAVAGANZA. The band is currently playing shows supporting their new CD, SLOWMENTUM.

Rick met Wes and Boxy while performing with project object, a Frank Zappa tribute band that toured the country with various Zappa band alumni such as Ike Willis, Napoloeon Murphy Brock, Don Preston, and Bunk Gardner.

Lovetester says, “We love all types of music — Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Ween, YES, Rush, King Crimson, ELP, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Weird Al, Wesley Willis. We are always learning, practicing, and striving for excellence. We know you have your choice of bands and we really do appreciate your support.”

-Deth Enemy Debuts With UNMOVABLE

New Australian Hard Rock band Deth Enemy delve into the dark of a world arching into the abyss to split it with light, taking a stand for the soul once and for all.

Deth Enemy is the brainchild of the Caiulo Brothers (vocalist/guitarist Al and drummer Frank) and emerged from the blistering heat of an Australian afternoon, amidst the roars of a quiet jam session turned bedroom bound arena show (at which the band belted out what was to be their first song “Disciple”).

The band’s slick but shrieking sound swooned across from the speakers with a heavy metal grace to match the sound of early Sabbath, the ricocheting riffs of swift guitars as Al’s fingers sifted through the frets, the thunder thuds of drums Frank’s fists pumped and thumped tirelessly down into, the war cry wail of front man Al shouting out for every soul to hear, reached around the studios of London’s multi genre producer/engineer Tom E. Morrison (Underworld, Bliss, Bonnie Tyler, Andrew Roachford) who was riled in by the raw nerve verve of the band and inspired to produce and put his magic touch onto their stunning debut.

Deth Enemy are a brave new wave of Hard Rock, penning tracks touching on the listing line between life and death, the empty of loss and the full of love, the gore glossed guise of Black Metal gone, the false stripped from the fact, ripping the misery from the man chord by chord, note by note, throwing the hope rope out to a society swimming in ruins.

Having signed to independent UK Label Big Sky Song Records, the band is about to start promoting the release of their rip-roaring and devastatingly addictive debut Album UNMOVABLE.

Release Date is set to 23rd September 2015. Their hard rock sound truly harks back to the time of peerless powerhouse bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, only they strip the sin back from the sound like paint thinner, black being bleached back to white, dark dripping away to light, the sublime of the Hard Rock mainstays’ sound still intact. Hard Rock is back, and not only does it have a new face in the form of Deth Enemy, but it has a new place too: your headphones.

-SayWeCanFly Announces DARLING EP Out October 23 On Epitaph

Watch the video for title track “Darling” Now:

SayWeCanFly is one-man acoustic act Braden Barrie from Lindsay, Ontario. Today, the 20-year-old musician has announced his first EP with Epitaph Records. The DARLING EP will be released digitally on October 23. CDs will be available at http://found.ee/SayWeCanFlyBundles .

Every once in a while an artist comes along who makes music so heartfelt and relatable that he or she become an instant sensation in the underground community — and that can certainly be said of Braden Barrie who has been playing under the name SayWeCanFly since 2009. With nearly 1.2 million social media followers, and fresh off a successful stint on the Vans Warped Tour’s Acoustic Basement stage, Barrie is finally ready to unleash his Epitaph debut the DARLING EP on the world.

“The whole recording process was just a long hangout with some microphones,” Barrie explains. “The most important thing about bringing my songs into reality is good vibes. I need to be in a space where I can completely let go and get lost in my emotions with no negative vibes or stress around because the studio is the doorway between my heart and our world.” That doorway stood wide open for Barrie who unbelievably wrote all of these songs in 24 hours. “It was just one of those days where I was able to pour my feelings onto paper without trying,” he says. “I’ve always found that my best songs happen without knowing they’re coming.”

While SayWeCanFly has previously released four EPs, and the DARLING EP features his strongest material to date. It also sees him expanding on the stripped-down instrumentation he’s utilized in the past. “The whole theme of this EP seems to be the journey through our darkness trying to find that little spark that makes us feel like we’re okay.”

Luckily for fans, Braden Barrie plans on hitting the road as much as possible over the next year and has already begun work on his next full-length album. In the meantime, hopefully these songs will help you heal.

DARLING track list:

1. Darling
2. High School
3. Better Off Alone

-Magic Circle: Boston Quintet Joins 20 Buck Spin Cult For Release Of Triumphant JOURNEY BLIND Sophomore LP

20 Buck Spin will round out its roster for 2015 with the release of JOURNEY BLIND, the triumphant sophomore LP from Boston-based quintet Magic Circle. This year has already been the most productive and expansive year for the label, but JOURNEY BLIND will fit into your parents’ unwavering classic rock collection the same as it could be the hottest thing on your younger cousin’s latest playlist.

Who said anything about running out of ideas? The stubborn ones were born to linger, to nose out newer, more subtle permutations with the help from a few ragged f*cks willing to practice them. The Magic Circle mutts roll in heavy metal whatness, striking a balance with the pituitary culture it begat, and the tunes it jacked out. Suburban drag races. Basement bum wine scrum. Every collective thought burnt into a dirty tape dub of MOB RULES. Sabbath, especially in its later incarnations, hulks ephemerally among all openings, rests, and codas. When Chris Corry and Dan Ducas’ guitars aren’t jelly-legging around Iommi, they’re rekindling “Neon Knights,” brandishing “Die Young” credo. Meanwhile, Q clubs the kit like a drunken Cozy Powell. Brendan Radigan stakes big, black flag in vocal territory long occupied by Saint Vitus, Saxon, Armored Saint, and Trouble. Bassist Justin DeTore alternates creepy crawl and thunder word belch, laying yoke over each tune and driving them prejudicially underground.

But motherf*ck simply “sounding” like these bands. Magic Circle celebrates them, and in doing so honors the form they have found. It’s HEAVY METAL. Hit hard. Write riffs that clack along like rustbucket tanks into perpetuity. “Play” bass in ways that make you at once inseparable from every punch the drummer lands, and also ghosts every riff — working beneath, between, behind the rhythm. Sing that f*cking story as every ancient did their Homer. It means something. It stands for something. Bring that to the tape.

And so Magic Circle does. Tunes are rude, vicious. Some lumber ominously along, bare-fisting the downbeat through riffs raised from basements held in the odors of stale beer, mold, and want. Others stuff the song’s shape with directional changes — tipping a cap to Trouble and Saint Vitus via Sabbath. All the dots are easily connected. There’s no sport there. But, in lieu of refinement, we get an honest reckoning: Magic Circle is a band (quickly) becoming. Through the web of influence and itchy, artistic compulsion they’ve found savage and ultimately promising ways of reanimating long since taxidermied forms.

Following their self-titled debut which was well-received in metal and hardcore circles, Magic Circle returns with 45 minutes of dominant, pure heavy metal on JOURNEY BLIND, a record which sees the outfit doing what they do, but doing it even better. Self-produced and recorded by the band at guitarist CC’s The Pain Cave, the record surges with the viscosity a team of top-tier producers would be proud to back.

The cover art for JOURNEY BLIND is an unused piece dating to 1979 by legendary artist Joe Petagno (Motorhead, Mammoth Grinder, Autopsy) which has been properly fitted to this modern ripper which could have been captured three decades ago yet booms with a refreshed spirit to guide today’s misguided youth back to their unbeknownst roots. Devotees to the scriptures immortalized by 1980s Black Sabbath, 1980s Trouble, Pagan Altar, Saint Vitus, and the like should not pass this one by.

20 Buck Spin will make Magic Circle’s JOURNEY BLIND a reality on November 20th in CD and digital formats, with the vinyl to follow in mid-December or whenever the pressing plants can get their sh*t together.

Having successfully toured with metal lifers Satan (the band, not the deity) in 2014 and more, Magic Circle will be raging the stage surrounding the release of JOURNEY BLIND, so stand by for handcrafted flyers announcing stages to soon be smoldered to be tacked up on grimy bathroom walls in your local venue in the months ahead.

JOURNEY BLIND Track Listing:
1. Journey Blind
2. The Damned Man
3. A Ballad For The Vultures
4. Lightning Cage
5. Ghosts Of The Southern Front
6. Grand Deceivers
7. Antediluvian

-Formerly Graven Image, As Darkness Dies will release its self-titled debut through Pure Steel Records on October 30. Hype: “On this record the US Power Metallers recorded 11 new, blasting tracks and also one bonus song, that won’t let down any fan of classical Heavy Metal sounds. Twin guitar harmonies in the ancient tradition, melodic, emotional, and sophisticated vocals, as well as the tight drumming of Harry Blackwell (ex-Steel Prophet) come up against catchy, straight song structures. By the way, AS DARKNESS DIES was produced by scene pioneer Mike Vescera (Obsession, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen). On this record As Darkness Dies deliver some delicate, traditional US Metal, every connoisseur will appreciate!” Track list: “Black Death,” “Cloaked In Darkness,” “Searching For Light,” “Silent Wings,” “Ghost,” “Other Side,” “High Road,” “World Of Decay,” “Life Incomplete,” “One Mistake,” “Demons,” “Far Away” (bonus track). See http://www.asdarknessdies.com/ and http://www.facebook.com/OfficialAsDarknessDies for more.

-Avantasia’s Tobias Sammet recently announced two more guest vocalists: Geoff Tate and Michael Kiske. Comments on the former: “I am proud to announce a very special guest today: Mr. Geoff Tate! I have been fortunate enough to meet many amazing classic metal vocalists. Whenever we’ve talked about our influence as vocalists the name Geoff Tate was brought up. Throughout his incredible career of more than 30 years Geoff has constantly explored new territory as an artist and vocalist, while he has always managed to maintain this distinctive signature vocal sound that makes him stand out. His contribution sounds nothing but amazing, and you will immediately know why the man had such a huge impact on vocalists and fans around the globe! Enchanting, unique, amazing, progressive in the purest sense of the word! Thank you for joining the Avantasia family, Geoff Tate!” Comments on the latter: “I have been friends with Micha for more than 15 years now. We recently joked when he asked me why he always gets to sing those high range speed metal anthems. My answer was quite simple: ‘Because I can hardly think of anyone who could possibly do that any better!’ The first time I heard Micha on one of my songs was 1999. I was blown away by what he did to stuff like ‘Reach Out For The Light’ or ‘The Seven Angels.’ You can convince yourself when we kick off the world tour in March, Micha will join Avantasia once again to do the old classics, but also some of the new material which sounds really fantastic; as Avantasia-esque as it gets. I am really surprised we found another time frame to do this tour together, I don’t take it for granted as this may be the last tour in a long time. It’s so difficult to align all those schedules, you can’t imagine. We managed to find a time frame in spring 2016, and we wanna enjoy it to the fullest: I can promise you that we will play more than three hours every night! Old stuff, new stuff, everything! Be there! It may be your only chance to see this particular lineup we’re putting together, for sure it will be the last Avantasia tour in quite some time at least.” Avantasia’s GHOSTLIGHTS is due out January 29 on Nuclear Blast. See http://www.tobiassammet.com/ for more.

-Broken Teeth’s new release, BULLDOZER, is due out October 23 in CD and vinyl formats on Texas Metal Underground Records. -Australian thrash band Harlott’s new release PROLIFERATION (Metal Blade) is streaming in full at http://www.metalblade.com/harlott/ . Hype: “Forged in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, Harlott are the finest example of the Thrash metal genre in recent years. Unrivaled live concerts, an aggressive recognizable sound, clinical musicianship, and a classic ‘Aussie’ sense of humor have earned Harlott a strong and dedicated fan base, which continues to grow day to day.” The band consists of Andrew Hudson on guitar and vocals, Ryan Butler on lead guitar, Tomas Richards on bass, and Tim Joyce on drums, and is hitting the road in Europe with Annihilator and Archer as follows:

-Silent Line, a “death-infused melodic metal” band from Bonnyville, Alberta, will release a concept album called SHATTERED SHORES on October 30. Check out an album teaser at https://youtu.be/1re_niJKyuY , and the first single, “Shattered Shores I: Timeless Night,” at MetalNationNews at http://metalnationradio.ca/exclusive-song-premiere-silent-lines-new-track-shattered-shores-i-timeless-night-new-album-shattered-shores-due-out-october-30th/ . The band consists of singer/guitarist Mike Burton, guitarist Randy Bergh, bassist Andy Sidloski, and drummer Adam Kallstrom. Album hype: “Producing heavy and melodic music with an orchestral flair rooted in death metal SHATTERED SHORES is the band’s first concept album. The title track is split into two parts, and throughout the album several thematic riffs and lyrics are repeated, creating a motif for listeners. The title references being stranded and trapped forever as the shores become more eroded and the reality of isolation sets in. The lyrics revolve around the themes of overcoming hardships, anxiety, and ‘weathering the storm’ in order to persevere. A single person is referred to throughout the album and everything is told from their point of view as they wander, stuck on the island — unsure of how they got there, and unsure if they will ever leave.” Track list: “Frost Of The Night,” “Erosion,” “Back And White,” “Shattered Shores I: Timeless Night,” “Summer Song,” “Starfall,” “Shattered Shores II: A New Beginning,” “Into The Chasm,” “The Faceless Shadow,” “Embrace The End.” See http://www.SilentLineOfficial.com/ for more.

-Wizard Eye — the “Philadelphia-based psychedelic doom-bringers” — will unleash a self-titled album next month on Black Monk Records. The disc has been hyped thusly: “Operating at the pinnacle of their creative and musical abilities, the record was captured in just three days at Haddon Heights, New Jersey’s Gradwell House Studios with Steve Poponi, mastered by Dave Downham, and boasts a cosmic fusion of bottom-heavy grooves, fiery fuzz, churning bass, otherworldly effects and raw vocals with roots planted firmly into the lysergic soil of ’70s acts like Hawkwind, Budgie, Blue Cheer, Captain Beyond, Motörhead, and Black Sabbath.” The new song “Flying Falling” is streaming now at http://noisey.vice.com/blog/wizard-eye-song-premiere . See http://www.facebook.com/wizardeye and http://www.facebook.com/BlackMonkRecords for more.
