-Symphony X: Lyric Video For “Nevermore” Revealed

New Jersey’s progressive metal masters Symphony X are set to release their brand new, ninth studio album called UNDERWORLD on July 24 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Today, SYMPHONY X reveal a lyric-video for the opening track “Nevermore.” Click here:

Symphony X have triumphed, creating a panoramic “album rock” experience in an era cursed with diminishing attention spans. “This new one is about the song, really crafting each one on its own, to be as strong as it could be,” says Michael Romeo, chief writer in the band, and proprietor of The Dungeon, the tricked-out studio in which the album was crafted, newly equipped with the latest in technology required to execute the band’s famous symphonic and orchestrated touches.

“Musically, UNDERWORLD has things reminiscent of the band’s previous albums but this one definitely has its own individuality,” stated Michael. “Every element added was in service of the song, so the album flows and becomes a total listening experience from start to finish. Every song is to-the-point and fine-tuned, with us paying a lot of attention to the hooks, voices, riffs, and keeping the interest and the energy high for the entire record. It is heavy and aggressive as f*ck when it needs to be, yet soaring and emotional at other times. I think the balance is just right. It had to have all the elements of what we normally would do, just tweaked up a notch and really fine-tuned. You know, industry people have talked about how we’ll never see a complete album again, and that idea. I wanted to defend the reputation of the album, and really try to make UNDERWORLD worth listening to as a whole record. It’s what I love about great individual songs, but still an album experience. I don’t want to sound like I’m preaching, but it was a point we wanted to make. It was about the progression of the whole record. It speeds up here and then it dips down here. It all makes sense together, it all works together and it all flows together.”

Although UNDERWORLD is not a concept album, Michael stated “like the last couple of records, there’s a theme that carries through, without it being storytelling. We try to find something to key in on and get the juices flowing, and here the goal was to find something a little dark but with emotional content. I started looking at Dante, and Orpheus in the underworld, where he’s going to go to Hades or hell to save this girl. So there’s the theme of going to hell and back for something or someone you care about.” Heavily inspired by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, UNDERWORLD draws on the themes from “Divine Comedy” most notably the part on “Inferno.” As homage to Dante’s use of the number 3 and its multiples, the band utilizes this motif in its music either in a lyrical or melodic context. The first song on the album is a three syllable, three note melodic phrase, and in the verses there are three references to three songs on the bands third album, THE DIVINE WINGS OF TRAGEDY. “There’s cool sh*t like this all over the record,” Romeo reports.

For UNDERWORLD’s cover art, Symphony X went with their established illustrator Warren Flanagan (“Watchmen,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “2012”), who similarly tapped into the “secret knowledge” vibe Michael and band embedded in the record. “Warren went with the masks, similar to the first record,” explains Romeo. “But when I discussed with him Dante and the underworld, he did his own research and designed a little symbol for each of the nine circles of hell. So there are these little geometric symbols that mean something. That’s just what he does. He gets in there and finds these things that maybe no one really besides us knows what it means and yet it has meaning.”

The track list for UNDERWORLD:

01. Overture
02. Nevermore
03. Underworld
04. Without You
05. Kiss Of Fire
06. Charon
07. Hell And Back
08. In My Darkest Hour
09. Run With The Devil
10. Swansong
11. Legend

U.D.O.: NAVY METAL NIGHT Out On July 31 (EU) / August 18 (US) 2015!

On July 31st, the new U.D.O. DVD/2CD NAVY METAL NIGHT will be released via AFM Records.

In February 2014, U.D.O. played a very special sold-out show, accompanied by a German Navy Orchestra (Marinemusikkorps Nordsee). The symphonic sound of the orchestra and the choir merged with the songs of U.D.O. and made the evening a unique unforgettable experience for the audience.

This bombastic live event will now be made available for all fans of U.D.O., either on DVD or Blu-ray plus two CDs.

And at this year’s Wacken Open Air, the unique musical collaboration can be seen live on stage again, this time with the German Federal Armed Forces Orchestra.

“I was simply overwhelmed by the whole event, it’s like a dream came true,” Udo Dirkschneider states. “It’s really more than words can say. This DVD will be something special to me, definitely a highlight of my career.”

NAVY METAL NIGHT is produced by Mattes and Björn Schlüter and co-produced by Udo Dirkschneider. Mixed by Mattes and Björn at Redhead Studio A, Wilhelmshaven and mastered by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios, Ribe, Denmark.

Pyogenesis Sign With AFM Records!

The wait is over! After more than 13 years’ hiatus, Pyogenesis are to release a new studio album on August 14, 2015 via AFM Records.

Flo Von Schwarz (Pyogenesis): “The best about Metal are the people: I know Jochen (Richert, AFM Records) for more than 20 years, and with him and the whole AFM team I made the right choice.”

Twenty-four years Pyogenesis means tours and fans all around the globe, playing in front of 560,000 people in Hungary, performances at Rock am Ring / Rock im Park or Wacken and #1 in MTV’s viewer charts. Besides that, the band co-invented the genre “Gothic Metal” in the early ’90s.

But 24 years Pyogenesis also means 13 years without a new album and 10 years without shows.

Now, this break is finally over! After their sold-out comeback show in Romania, the band will release their highly anticipated sixth album this summer. With A CENTURY IN THE CURSE OF TIME, the four-piece around mastermind Flo V. Schwarz is returning to their roots, recording not only the heaviest, but also the most epic and ambitious album in the band’s history. It’s their first concept album ever: The lyrical theme is about the change of society in the 19th century under the influence of the industrialization, the steam engine, the emerging bourgeoisie, and science fiction literature such as Jules Verne.

Pyogenesis will play as one of the top acts at this year’s Summer Breeze Festival (August 12 – 15) in Dinkelsbühl, Germany.

A comeback in every sense.

Yet… Exxiles is a band, not just another project.

After Mauricio Bustamante left Reign Of The Architect, he started working on his new production and multinational band called Exxiles, seeking to reflect how sometimes we are exile in life by simple or great things when we are betrayed by something we believed in. At the end of which… there is only abandonment… pain… and anger. Yet with passion, you discover that you learn how to rise… to liberate and fight for the things you believe in once again! That is the moment when the exile transforms into something stronger, especially if walk with other exiles toward your goal.

The first part of a pending trilogy will be a cinematic conceptual album about loyalty, a symbol of friendship, politics, religion, love… It will have many stories but but each will seek become one with the rest. It will show how loyalty becomes weak when personal interests are involved, and in sacrificing a dreamer’s dreams in order to achieve power, neither side wins. -Philip H. Anselmo’s Housecore Horror Festival Returning For Year Three

Legendary metal front man and Housecore Records founder, Philip H. Anselmo, is bringing his horror-themed film and metal festival back for a third year. After a great ride in Austin, the festival will kick off in San Antonio, Texas at the Aztec Theater on November 13 – 15, 2015.

The decision to return was driven by the desire to honor his friend and festival co-founder, Corey Mitchell, who tragically passed away last October. Mitchell was the driving creative force behind the festival’s success, and Anselmo believes there is no better way to pay tribute to his friend than to carry on for a third year.

“I’ve got a great team in place to help make this what Corey and I wanted it to be,” he says. “There are a lot of mixed emotions here because no one can replace him. But, we know he would want this to continue and so that’s what we’re going to do. We miss him and think about him every day.”

Bands already confirmed to play are Suffocation, Autopsy, Cripple Bastards, Nails, SYK & Dalila Kayros, YOB, Eyehategod, Child Bite, Warbeast, and many more to be announced soon. Maryland Deathfest co-founder Ryan Taylor will be booking bands this year and will help Anselmo craft a musical lineup that would make Mitchell proud.

In addition to showcasing the best in extreme metal, the festival will screen film gems from the personal vaults of both Anselmo and Mitchell. Horror filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films and winners will be selected in various categories and given the coveted Rot-Scar Award. “When Corey and I started this thing, it was important to us that we help independent filmmakers get their incredible work discovered,” Anselmo continues. “Nothing has changed, in that respect.”

Tickets to go on sale soon! Stay tuned for additional announcements.

Robin stated: “We’ve been writing songs for this album on and off since the release of WE DON’T BELONG in 2013. I think we had 16-17 songs that we chose from, and recorded 14. The funny thing is that we ended up putting all 14 songs on the album because they’re all so freakin’ good! This album is different from the previous two because we produced it ourselves this time, and Mats engineered, mixed, and mastered it. Someone once said that we don’t sound like any other band. They have released two albums — LIFE, LOVE, LOSS in 2010 and WE DON’T BELONG in 2013 — both critically acclaimed worldwide by media.

In 2014 the band was opening for Dan Reed Network on their Sweden tour, played Väsby Rock Festival, and were invited as Special Guests to Machinae Supremacy’s European tour in Poland, Czech Republic, and Germany. And 2015 started off with the return to UK for a tour in March.

-District 97 Issues Trailer For IN VAULTS; Brand New Album Nears June Release Through Laser’s Edge

Chicago’s District 97 has just released a trailer for their impending third studio full-length, IN VAULTS, which showcases the album’s cover art, photos, and clips from several tracks found on the release.

Their third album for Laser’s Edge, IN VAULTS boasts more than an hour of District 97’s unique brew of prog rock, metal, alternative, classical, pop, and jazz influences with nine brand new tracks. The album was recorded at IV Lab Studios in Chicago, engineered by Chris Harden with additional engineering by Shane Hendrickson, mixed by Rich Mouser and Jeff Fox at The Mouse House Studio, and mastered by Bob Katz at Digital Domain, and features brilliant cover art designed by Björn Gooßes.

The first audio samples from District 97’s IN VAULTS have come to light this week through a trailer for the record which is now playing at https://youtu.be/BviJOzPin68 .

Listen for singles from IN VAULTS including an official video and more to be leaked in the coming weeks as the album nears official release on June 23.

With an energetic and assorted blend of progressive rock, metal, and pop influences, District 97 was formed in the Fall of 2006 initially as a Liquid Tension Experiment-inspired instrumental rock act before deciding to add a vocalist to complement their sound. Enter 2007 “American Idol” Top 10 Female Finalist, Leslie Hunt. With a look, sound and stage presence comparable to a young Ann Wilson, Leslie’s dynamic performances pushed the band into a new direction that forged a unique marriage between accessible, catchy vocal melodies and an adventurous instrumental prowess. Capturing the attention of Laser’s Edge, the label signed District 97 for the 2010 release of their debut album, HYBRID CHILD, followed in 2012 by their follow-up, TROUBLE WITH MACHINES. Both albums balance meticulous attention to detail and studio-craft with the visceral power of a rock band that is firing on all cylinders, and run the gamut from Meshuggah-inspired metal, the epic majesty of Yes, and the melodicism of The Beatles. Heavy bouts of live performances surrounding both records included a number of high profile festivals, opening support slots for prog icons Kansas, and even European and North American tours with John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia, UK). These spectacular shows saw District 97 open with their own material, and then join forces with Wetton for a full set of legendary King Crimson tracks, as memorialized on their joint 2014 live album, ONE MORE RED NIGHT.

About Aggression:
Formed in 1985 under the original moniker “Asylum” to be later changed to Aggression, the speed metallers unleashed their 1986 demo FORGOTTEN SKELETON (which saw an album release in 2005), and their debut full-length THE FULL TREATMENT in 1987, which lead them to become one of the most popular bands to rise out of the Quebec and Canadian metal scene. With their manager at the time (Johnny Hart), Aggression quickly became a household name with their concerts sold out everywhere and a fan base that grew from hundreds to thousands in no time.

Other bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Hallow’s Eve, Destruction, and others all wanted to see the beast for themselves during tour stops in Montreal. Playing numerous concerts with bands such as Anvil, Celtic Frost, Voïvod, Nuclear Assault, Agnostic Front, D.R.I., Possessed, Dark Angel, Crumbsuckers, Sacrifice, and others, Aggression decided to call it quits in 1989 due to external influences.

*band lineup for recordings was Denis “Sasquatch” Barthe (guitar and backup vocals), Botcher (vocals), Burn (guitar), Dug (bass), and Gate (drums and backup vocals).
*1985 – *four-track demo
*1986 – *LIVE (14 track live album)

-Goatsnake Share New Jam, “Grandpa Jones,” From Upcoming BLACK AGE BLUES LP Nearing Release On Southern Lord June 2

Goatsnake is sure to get your motor running with their latest jam “Grandpa Jones,” a celebratory rock ‘n’ roll affair all about the life and times of a standout elder gentleman that Team Rock is premiering today. Pete Stahl’s vocals cruise with ease alongside those of backing singers, Dem Preachers Daughters, while almighty riffs lurch forward with the rumbling horsepower singularly linked to Greg Anderson’s guitar work. Says Anderson of the track; “‘Grandpa Jones:’ One of the first of the new songs we wrote. Channeling ‘Flag and ‘Sabbath (that ole’ moldy chestnut!). Lyrics about keeping the youth juice flowin’!”

Break it down; “Grandpa Jones” is now playing RIGHT HERE:

You can also listen to “Black Age Blues” and “Elevated Man” ahead of BLACK AGE BLUES’ release date in just over a week and a half:

The inner layout of the artwork can be viewed on the band’s webpage:

An interview with Greg Anderson was published by LA Weekly on the new album and highlighting their record release show for the album going down tonight; check it out at:

BLACK AGE BLUES will be released through Southern Lord Recordings June 2, and pre-orders for the album are now live. In addition to physical pre-orders, the record is also available via iTunes, offering the tracks “Black Age Blues,” “Elevated Man,” and “Grandpa Jones” for instant download, which are now available to purchase individually at https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/grandpa-jones-single/id990438516 . Check out the pre-order options at the new Goatsnake store at http://goatsnake.southernlord.com/ , via BandCamp at https://goatsnakesl.bandcamp.com/ , and iTunes at https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/black-age-blues/id988116801 .

Later this month, Goatsnake will hit Europe for a week-long tour which kicks off at Temples Festival in Bristol, and includes a headlining set at Siegen, Germany’s Freakvalley Festival. Upon their stateside return, they’ll headline Crucialfest in Salt Lake City, Utah, with additional tour dates being scheduled.

With nearly 50 minutes of Goatsnake’s most soulful and boisterous material to date, the quartet expands their already mammoth tones and pummeling rock riffs with a variety of additional influences and elements on BLACK AGE BLUES, an instant classic, with each one of the nine songs an anthem, and each of its members — vocalist Pete Stahl (Scream), drummer Greg Rogers (The Obsessed), bassist Scott Renner, and guitarist Greg Anderson (Sunn O))), Southern Lord Recordings) — all in top form. With guest contributions from David Pajo (Slint, Aerial M, Papa M) and soul vocal trio Dem Preacher’s Daughters, comprised of Wendy Moten, Gale Mayes, and Andrea Merrit, the album was recorded and mixed at Rock Falcon Franklin, Tennessee by Nick Raskulinecz (Queens Of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Rush) and mastered by Brian Big Bass Gardner (N.W.A., Stevie Wonder, Parliament).

-Demon Lung: Nevada Doom Bringers Unleash “Mark Of Jubilee” Via Decibel Magazine; A DRACULA To See Release Next Month

Las Vegas-based doom bringers, Demon Lung, will unleash the forlorn fruits of their A DRACULA full-length next month via Candlelight Records. Captured by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, etc.), the record boasts eight dark, devious hymns centered loosely on Juan López Moctezuma’s 1977 horror film, “Alucarda,” in which two teenage orphan girls living in a Catholic convent unleash a demonic force and ultimately become possessed by Satan.

“‘Alucarda’ is a more relatable story for me than our last album’s [THE HUNDREDTH NAME] subject matter,” vocalist Shanda Fredrick issues, “which made writing a lot more fun this time around. The heroine in this story is the daughter of Satan, who happens to fall in love with the purest of souls in the convent she resides. She coaxes this soul over to the dark, with only intentions of love but in doing so she dooms her to death by the hands of the nuns. The anger consumes her and she uses her dark powers to resurrect her love and together they kill the convent and then the world.”

As a precursor to its official unveiling, today Decibel Magazine offers up sixth movement, “Mark Of Jubilee” for public consumption at this location:

A Dracula comes nearly two years to the date from the successful release of the band’s critically-lauded, 2013-released THE HUNDREDTH NAME. Media applauded the band, especially Fredrick with Decibel Magazine gushing, “She emerges like a high empress, adding real soul to the quintet’s lurch.” Ghost Cult called the debut, “a modern doom masterpiece,” Las Vegas Weekly concurred noting, “Everything about Demon Lung’s debut screams epic,” while New Noise Magazine gushed, “This record is mammoth. Bass riffs tuned low drag the listener into a dark, solemn swamp of evil. The atmosphere created is as important as each note plucked from Lucifer’s hairy hind quarters.” Added This Is Not A Scene accurately, “The future of doom seems to be in safe hands.”

Demon Lung is vocalist Shanda Fredrick, drummer Jeremy Brenton, guitarists Phil Burns and Brent Lynch, and bassist Jason Lamb. A DRACULA will be released via Candlelight Records on June 16, 2015 with tour dates to be announced shortly. In the meantime, pre-orders are available at http://www.manicmusiconline.com/demon-lung-a-dracula . Desirers of the digitals, point your browsers to https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/a-dracula/id994223771 .

-Adramelch’s fourth and final album, OPUS, is out now on Pure Prog Records. Track list: “Black Mirror,” “Long Live The Son,” “Pride,” “Northern Lights,” “Only By Pain,” “A Neverending Rise,” “Fate,” “Ostinato,” “As The Shadows Fall,” “Forgotten Words,” “Trodden Doll,” “Where Do I Belong.” Hype: “On the one hand, OPUS marks the official end of Adramelch’s discographic career. For a number of reasons, the band has decided to call it quit, drawing the final curtain on the career of Italy’s most influential and charismatic combo. But, before leaving forever, the band has decided to produce yet another milestone, set to leave a mark on the scene, as every output of theirs did so far. And man they made it. On the other hand, OPUS is probably the most atmospheric and mature album of Adramelch’s career. Once again, the band has not limited itself to repeat is glorious past, but has looked forward, managing to create a new masterpiece, adding new colors and atmospheres, yet totally in line with its past heritage.” OPUS was recorded at producer Guido Block’s Lo Studio in Milan, and features Block and Simona Aileen Pala contributing guest vocals. The band’s lineup is Vittorio Ballerio on vocals, Gianluca A. Corona and Fabio Troiani on guitars, Sarmax on bass, Gualtiero Insalaco on keyboards, and Sigfrido Percich on drums. The first online reviews include Dangerdog – 3.5/5 and The Rocktologist – 10/10. The band already released two full-length albums (VISIONS OF FIRE in 2008 and METAL SERVICE, 2010) on Pure Steel Records, which were followed by two self-released EPs in 2013 and 2014. These two EPs are now going to be released on vinyl, again through our label. Musically, nothing has changed. Crisp and sophisticated Heavy Metal with Teutonic trademarks, strong riffs and hooks are still ruling, which fans of the genre and black vinyls surely will love.” The rest of the lineup is rounded out by guitarists Timo Rauscher and Oliver Brandt, and drummer Jan Müller. Check out the new video for “Break” at https://youtu.be/ivgSA4V6gf0 . Album hype: “Jeff Scott Soto — one of today’s premier Rock front men and vocalists — and a union of hotshot young musicians bring you a slamming blend of melody and muscle in some of the freshest power metal to surface in years present. Together they are Soto, and their debut album INSIDE THE VERTIGO will blow your mind away. A neurotic blend of power metal, prog, groove-laden huge guitars, hooks and production, Soto is a contender in today’s modern Rock arena while capturing the essence of strong songwriting simultaneously.” Last week Mr. Soto appeared at the Lucky Strike Live Jam, at Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, CA.
