-Armored Saint Debuts “An Exercise In Debauchery” From WIN HANDS DOWN Online Via Metal Hammer!

First press reactions revealed!

Los Angeles, California’s Armored Saint are set to release their seventh studio album this summer. The album WIN HANDS DOWN is all things Armored, a vintage crush of classic power propelled by a cathartic blast of life in the year 2015. The album is scheduled for release on May 29th in Europe.

Armored Saint has partnered up with Metal Hammer Germany to exclusive debut their brand new track, “An Exercise In Debauchery.” Click on the link below now to check it out:

The first press reactions are quite enthusiastic as well!

“Looks like the band has found its fire again, as they once more offer some fine hymns such as the title track, ‘Mess,’ ‘An Exercise In Debauchery,’ or ‘With A Full Head Of Steam,’ all of which easily compete with the classics. Bush for his part is still singing like a young god!” – Marc Halupczok, Metal Hammer Germany, 6/7

“In a similar way as on their 1991 record SYMBOL OF SALVATION, Saint by no means dodge new influences. However, the band, which is rightfully considered to be one of the most underrated in US Metal, primarily concentrates on their great strengths, meaning incredible self-conscious playing in connection to their signature song writing, which is devoid of any clichés and so unlike any other group!” – Boris Kaiser, Rock Hard Germany, 8,5/10, soundcheck winner!

“Never in the world would I have expected such a strong comeback by this band, which is probably the most underrated of all time in the Metal genre! A gift to the group’s faithful fans!” – Götz Kühnemund, Deaf Forever Germany, 9/10

“In its entirety, this is the heaviest and melodically most compelling album in the band’s history!” – Peter Engelking, Rocks, 5,5/6

A brand new video for the title track was recently shot by director Andrew Nethery, and is available for streaming now at http://www.metalblade.com/armoredsaint , where album pre-order bundles are also ready for order. Including CD, ltd. CD+DVD, ltd. vinyl, and special boxed set featuring customized poker set. -The Rods Release New Single Featuring Benedictum Vocalist Veronica Freeman

American ’80s heavy metal power trio The Rods have announced the release of their brand new single “Smoke On The Horizon,” featuring Benedictum vocalist Veronica Freeman — “The V.”

“Smoke On The Horizon” is available for purchase worldwide via iTunes and all digital media outlets.

The Rods band members and The V have released the following statements on the joining of forces for this new recording project and upcoming tour dates:

(Guitarist David “Rock” Feinstein) – “Garry had let Carl and I know that he had made friends with Veronica some months ago. After a while he began playing her recordings for us, and we knew after hearing them, that she had a very good voice. Her original music is very good, but quite different than the traditional Rods style, and her voice is powerful with a true ‘Heavy Metal’ edge to it. Soon Garry suggested that maybe she could come and sit in with us to sing a couple of songs. She had already been doing some Dio covers, so we thought that would be a perfect fit. We have a great time playing the Dio songs, and Veronica does an excellent job of singing them. A guest performer is something different for us, but so far it has been great fun, and I think the fans will really love it.”

(Drummer / Producer Carl Canedy) – “Veronica Freeman has a truly powerful voice! After a killer warm-up show with her in Auburn, NY, it struck me that it would be a shame to not document this merging of talents with a studio recording. David’s song, ‘Smoke On The Horizon,’ seemed like a perfect fit. We were able to record this song very quickly during Veronica’s visit and I think the fans will be surprised and pleased with the outcome. The ‘V’ will also be joining The Rods for their European dates performing a set of classic Dio and Black Sabbath songs.”

(Bassist Garry Bordonaro) – “I met Veronica ‘The V’ Freeman through friends, musical connections. During a trip to Phoenix to visit family, I asked her to meet me at a Y&T show. Unfortunately, because of some communication snafus (my fault), she went to the show and I didn’t. The exchanges following that regrettable incident convinced me that she and I had a lot to talk about. On later visits we did meet and spent some time together, and had a lot of good times. We have a real friendship, and have often talked about working together on a project. After hearing early mixes of her new album, it was clear that she deserved exposure to a wider audience. We discussed having her come with us on our European dates, and Carl and Rock agreed to bring her along. We thought it would be fun working with her, and to have a female singer in front of the band, something we have not done before. We decided to play Dio songs because we all know and enjoy playing them, and really didn’t have time to work up her new material. We also put together a quick recording session for a new version of Rock’s song ‘Smoke On The Horizon’ to document this collaboration and get her on the news pages. I think Rods fans and Benedictum fans will have a blast seeing her perform with us, and will really like her new material when it’s released this summer. At least we are going to have a lot of fun doing it!”

(Vocalist Veronica “The V” Freeman) – “After having met Garry in person I knew I had a friend for life! We clicked on a lot of levels. I felt comfortable enough to share some of the solo material with him and was blown away by his reaction. The series of events that followed have been exciting and rather unbelievable for me. Next thing you know I am meeting the entire band for the first time, doing photo shoots and then bam, in the studio to record ‘Smoke On The Horizon,’ then a show and soon we head out for some shows in Europe! It was like a mini whirlwind and I survived it, lol. Now we go to Europe and I am beyond excited. The guys are great and things just seem to be falling into place. I love it!”

The Rods will feature a guest performance from Benedictum vocalist Veronica Freeman (“The V”), during selective upcoming European shows.

European shows featuring “The V”:

May 23 – Heavy Sound Festival, Poperinge, Belgium – ++
May 25 – Sounds, Lubeck, Germany – ++
May 28 – Muskelrock Festival, Tyrolen, Sweden – ++

The Rods will be on the road promoting their latest single as well as performing classic songs from their entire album catalog.

-Britny Fox Has Reunited And Is Back In Studio

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Britny Fox has returned from a long hiatus fully charged and ready to rock! The band is currently writing for a new album, and plans to book and perform select dates only at this time.

In late 2014, Billy Childs reunited with former 2007 manager/tour manager Wayne “Doobie” Dubay. Childs and Doobie reunited with vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tommy Paris and original drummer Johnny Dee. Due to commitments, original lead guitarist Michael Kelly Smith has been replaced by lead guitarist Chris Sanders. “How can I tell you how great it is to be back with these guys, and working on a new album? It is fantastic,” explains Childs. “Johnny and I basically grew up in this business together and the tightness we have had over the years as a rhythm section is still there. Tommy Paris hasn’t lost a step, lyrically or vocally. Chris is a breath of fresh air for the band, and adds elements that were never there before, but very much in line with us as we prepare to bite down even harder this time around. Doobie is the guy that pulled us all together and said ‘get your heads out of your asses and make another BITE DOWN HARD.’ He’s pretty big, so best just to agree with him! For other reasons as well though, we all agreed it was time.”

The band is currently in studio writing and recording a follow-up to the BITE DOWN HARD album. This musical jewel is a definite game-changer on the classic Britny Fox sound that originally exploded in 1988. BITE DOWN HARD is a much harder rock tone featuring Zakk Wylde and Rikki Rocket. Rikki performs a percussion solo with Johnny Dee on the “Midnight Moses” track and Zakk plays the lead guitar outro on “Six Guns Loaded.” “It’s awesome playing with Billy and Johnny again — Chris fits right in perfectly with us freaks,” exclaims Paris. “The new songs are ass-kicking, fun, heavy rock! It’s a great time hanging out with Doobie, writing new tunes and putting a new show together! Can’t wait to get back out on stage!”

Britny Fox is comprised of:
Tommy Paris – Vocals/Rhythm Guitar
Chris Sanders – Lead Guitar
Billy Childs – Bass
Johnny Dee – Drums

The band has sold close to two million in sales worldwide and charted on Billboard’s Top 10 for both “Girlschool” and “Long Way To Love.”

-Kingcrow Launches First Single From EIDOS LP With Official Video For “The Moth” Through Prog Magazine

With the nearing release of EIDOS, the sixth studio full-length from Italian progressive metal troupe Kingcrow nearing release next month through Sensory Records, the first single has been released through an official video for the track, “The Moth,” via an exclusive premiere with massive print and online entity Prog Magazine.

Showcasing the Rome-based Kingcrow sextet’s expansive take on forward-thinking metal in a completely different approach than ever before, the video for “The Moth” was created in a unique animated style by Argentinean artist Gastón Viñas ( http://www.grapevineindustries.com/ ), widely known for his similarly-styled works for Radiohead, including videos for their songs “2+2=5” and “A Wolf At The Door,” which combined have collected nearly 15 million views on YouTube. Issues band guitarist/backing vocalist Diego Cafolla about the song, “When we started to think about the first single, ‘The Moth’ seemed the obvious choice to us since it’s short, busy, and quite catchy at the same time and shows also some new ingredients to our sound…” He continues about the inception of the video, “I was listening to a Radiohead playlist on YouTube when this animated video (for the song ‘2+2=5’) popped up and I found it terrific and mesmerizing… I contacted Gastón Viñas, the author of the animation, just to tell him how much I appreciated his art… he wrote me back that he listened and loved Kingcrow’s music and that’s how it started. I gave him some inputs about the album concept, the artwork and the song’s lyrics and he came out with another brilliant piece of art!”

Kingcrow’s video for “The Moth” is now viewable through an exclusive premiere at UK-based Prog Magazine at http://prog.teamrock.com/news/2015-05-14/kingcrow-the-moth-video .

Sensory Records, who also released Kingcrow’s In Crescendo album, will unveil EIDOS on CD and digitally worldwide on June 23.

Following the success of their IN CRESCENDO album — the band’s first for US label Sensory Records, who released the album in February 2014 — Kingcrow, returns with EIDOS, a conceptual album about choices, consequences, and dealing with regret and disillusion. As their PHLEGETHON album dealt with childhood, and IN CRESCENDO about the end of youth, EIDOS can be considered the third part of a trilogy about the path of life. Musically it sees the band exploring new territories and pushing the extremes of its complex soundscape attributes with a darker atmosphere. EIDOS was recorded at Sound Under Pressure in Rome, with the production handled by the band’s Diego and Thundra Cafolla. Several guest appearances help create the album’s new atmospheres, including saxophone provided by Stefania Bentivoglio on the track, “Slow Down,” and piano by Fred Colombo of Spheric Universe Experience for the track, “The Deeper Divide.” Mixed by Giampiero Ulacco and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New York, the stunning production of the album is matched by visionary artwork by Cristian Nastasi/Devilnax. With over an hour of new material, EIDOS is the next logical progression in the evolution of Kingcrow, and will open the next doorway for whatever lies ahead.

Besides Eric Forrest on vocals, drums, and rhythm guitar, the current E-Force lineup features the return of KROF on drums, while the lead guitar parts are divided among no less than five exceptional guitarists: Vincent Agar (Yotangor, Lust), Tomas Skorepa (Exorcizphobia), neo-classical Antonello Gilliberto, Dan Baune (Monument), and Rob Urbinati (Sacrifice).

Joining them in early 1994, following the departure of vocalist Denis “Snake” Bélanger, he appeared on two studio masterpieces, NEGATRON and PHOBOS; on the live album, VOIVOD LIVES, as well as on the remix compilation: KRONIK. Upon his departure from Voivod, Forrest chose to use his nickname, E-Force, as the name for his new band.

E-Force released their debut album EVIL FORCES (recorded by Pierre Remillard known for his work with Cryptopsy, Gorguts, etc.), to widespread critical acclaim in October 2003. Following the release of EVIL FORCES, Forrest relocated to Toulouse in France which obviously resulted in a lineup change. In February of 2008, E-Force finally released their follow-up album, MODIFIED POISON. The album further expanded the sound and intensity of the band, impressing both fans and critics alike. In 2014 the band released their third album THE CURSE on Mausoleum Records. THE CURSE was a concept album based on a collection of songs describing the power and temptation of, and obsession with the female race. The album featured guest performances by Glen Drover (Megadeth, King Diamond), Kristina Niemann (Therion), and Vincent Agar (Yotangor).

Throughout their 10-year history E-Force has released three albums, albeit prominent ones, but nevertheless managed to perform in 20 different countries since the band’s inception, appearing at some of the most prominent festivals of the musical genre in Europe and North America.

Chainsheart is a classic hard rock/heavy metal band from Cyprus comprised of seasoned musicians, all of whom are extremely passionate rockers and this is clearly evident throughout their music and performances. The band began in 2011 as the solo project of vocalist Yiannis Savva who soon after decided to form a band, thus Chainsheart was born.

-Killer Khan KILL DEVIL HILL Reissue Details And Cover Art Revealed

Towards the end of the 20th Century heavy metal in the US seemed to be in a decline. Still there were countless bands across the country producing quality work. However due to the changing landscape by mainly the Internet revolution, many of the bands of the 1990s would be lost despite all of their best DIY efforts. There was a new frontier being discovered and many did what they could to survive into the next millennium but sadly they would disappear from what “underground” scene there was at the time. Now in recent years the metal community all over the world is starting to look into this seemingly lost period in US metal history.

Little is known about this mysterious band that in the mid-’90s emerged on to the scene under the name Holy Moses and released two self-released albums LATITUDE ZERO (’95) and ROCK N’ ROLL FOREVER (’96) before changing their name to Killer Khan. They would go on to release the third album KILL DEVIL HILLS in 1999 and re-release ROCK N’ ROLL FOREVER in 2001 under the new moniker. Throughout this time the band received a fair amount of attention worldwide in the press with several positive reviews and extensive interviews in such magazines as Germany’s That’s Metal and Japan’s Burnn!, among others.

“A weird sound, a great sound, something like old Savatage crossed with Cathedral with a bunch of weirdo indie moves. It’s so cool that metal freaks like this exist and just crank the stuff” – Martin Popoff (BW&BK)

After eight years of seeking out the band and the man known as Killer Khan (a.k.a. Killian Khan) Heaven And Hell Records have located him tucked away deep in the mountains of Western North Carolina. There he has been for more than a decade, quietly waiting for the right time to resurface onto the underground scene.

In June of this year a reissue of the Killer Khan’s debut KILL DEVIL HILLS is scheduled for release. The reissue will include new artwork and bonus tracks, and will be re-mastered by Jamie King at The Basement Studios. This CD release will be limited to 500.

Track List:

1. Computer Icon
2. Dr. Strangelove
3. Kill Devil Hills
4. Wicked Chimes of the Southern Bells
5. Supersonic Masquerade
6. Evilution
7. The Alamo

-Diamond Lane Issue “Swingin’ Heavy” US Southwest Tour Report – Part 1

Los Angeles, California up-and-coming hard rock bands Diamond Lane and Delta Rose are on the road hitting towns in the US Southwest as part of their joint “Swingin’ Heavy” US tour.

Diamond Lane lead vocalist Brandon Baumann has checked in with the very first tour report:

“As I lay here and write, the bus is cruising through the midnight air on a desert highway. Half the bodies are asleep, a cool breeze is brushing through the windows, and amongst the rumble of the engine and the faint sound of the guys noodling on the guitar, I can say with a clear mind, that this tour is something special.

“It’s not just about the dates on the calendar, but having an amazing experience with every person in the crowd. To have the gears officially in motion feels exhilarating. The shows have been fantastic, particularly Retrospect Rockfest. That event was a huge deal for the city of St. George and was the flagship event of introducing a new level of excitement to their music loving community of rockers. Even their Mayor, Mr. Jon Pike, was getting down like a seasoned enthusiast. Tons of killer bands and a real community vibe of appreciators, from kids to classics. From there we take this palatable energy and continue the journey while holding high the responsibility to entertain to the highest degree. Delta Rose and Diamond Lane are coming as a full package and swingin’ heavy to make you excited about the new generation of rock and heavy metal warriors.”

Diamond Lane are on the road promoting their critically acclaimed independently released third album TERRORIZER, while Delta Rose are supporting their debut album GOLDEN.

-KoMaRa: Boundary-Breaking, Cinematic Industrial Ethno-Rock From King Crimson’s Pat Mastelotto And Renowned Avant-Experimentalists David Kollar And Paolo Raineri

KoMaRa’s self-titled debut album is based on a dark, deviant, and explicit detective story. It reflects the mysterious circumstances of an abduction and the ultimate demise of the abductee. It’s a NSFW, Rated-R release designed for the open-minded and brave. Unnerving, haunting artwork by Tool’s Adam Jones further underlines the album’s provocative vibe.

The recording is predominantly instrumental, but includes occasional vocals by Raineri, Leashya, and Bill Munyon. Equally menacing, incendiary, and vulnerable, they serve as interludes to either break or create moods and tension throughout. The album also has moments of light and hope, told through short trumpet vignettes by Raineri.

KoMaRa came together through social media, with Kollar reaching out to Mastelotto on Facebook about potential gigs and recordings. Everyone was mutually intrigued and met up in Slovakia, where Kollar is based, in November 2014. The trio played gigs across myriad Slavic countries to enthusiastic, open-minded audiences. The group then went on to record in Prague, capturing three long improvizations that formed the basis of the pieces on KoMaRa’s debut album. Acclaimed engineers Bill Munyon and Adrian Benevides also contributed to faithfully reflecting the release’s mercurial approach.

“For me, KoMaRa is the epitome of my belief that great records are like movies,” said Mastelotto. “The best musicians don’t need scripts because they understand the movie is always evolving. That’s the beauty of music, too. It inspires its own script and cinematography in every listener’s head.”

Pat Mastelotto is one of the world’s most celebrated drummers. He has been a member of every King Crimson lineup from 1994 to the present. In addition, he’s one third of Stick Men, a trio with Tony Levin and Markus Reuter. Mastelotto has also collaborated with Steven Wilson, Terry Bozzio, Trey Gunn, Allan Holdsworth, John Paul Jones, and Kimmo Pohjonen.

Slovakian guitarist and composer David Kollar has released nine expansive albums, scored 18 films, and worked on many multimedia projects. His last recording, 2013’s THE SON, an atmospheric, emotionally-charged effort, received accolades from Guitar Moderne, France’s A Decovrir Absolument, and the Czech and Slovak Radio Head awards. He’s also worked with Eivind Aarset, Gergo Borlai, Bjorn Charles Dreyer, Lenka Dusilová, and Tommaso Colliva.

Trumpeter Paolo Raineri takes his instrument and processes it in real-time to create ethereal, otherworldly sounds. The Italian musician combines Scandinavian nu-jazz influences with psychedelic rock, experimental, and free improvisation in his award-winning Junkfood 4tet. In addition, he’s performed with Stefano Battaglia, Berserk!, The Blessed Beat, Baustelle, Calibro 35, Nada, and Enrico Gabrielli.

-Barbatos Sets Release Date For Long-Awaited New Hells Headbangers Album, Reveal First Track

At long last, Japan’s Barbatos returns with their first album in nearly a decade, STRAIGHT METAL WAR, set for international release on August 7 via Hells Headbangers. A prolific force on the split-release front, STRAIGHT METAL WAR is Barbatos’ fifth album to date in 17 years of existence, and their first for Hells Headbangers. Helmed by Abigail main man Yasuyuki, Barbatos have become cult legends in the metal underground with their uniquely filthy ‘n’ sleazy brand of blackened heavy metal/punk. Possessed by sex, drinks, and metal, Yasuyuki here extols the virtues of high school girls and heavy metal forces, Witching Metal and Tokyo rock ‘n’ roll shows, Satanik Holocausts and of course the very real Straight Metal War. -SayWeCanFly Announces Deluxe Edition Of BETWEEN THE ROSES On Newly-Launched PureWolf Records

TORONTO — Singer/songwriter Braden Barrie has announced the launch of PureWolf Records.

The label’s first release will be a deluxe edition of BETWEEN THE ROSES, the debut from Barrie’s own SayWeCanFly.

“PureWolf Records was an idea I had a few years ago but I knew I had to wait until the right time to launch my own record label,” said Barrie. “I’ve always had a desire to keep SayWeCanFly as an independent project, so I thought it would be cool to take what I’ve learned over the years and start building it into a structured company that will allow me to help other artists in the future.”

The BETWEEN THE ROSES deluxe edition will include demo recordings of “You May Live On Earth,” “Beautiful Things,” and “Together, We’re Alone.” Pre-orders will begin on May 19 and will include even more extras, including a download link for video content including acoustic sessions and tour footage, a physical CD digi-pak with alternate artwork and an exclusive 24×36 poster, along with an instant download of one of the new tracks.

“I’m happy that everyone will be able to hear the original vibe of the album in these new tracks,” Barrie said. “The deluxe edition is a little continuation of the BETWEEN THE ROSES story.”

The official street date for the BETWEEN THE ROSES deluxe edition is June 18.

-Borealis has signed with AFM Records and will release PURGATORY on June 19 in the EU and July 21 in the US. Track list: “Past The Veil,” “From The Ashes,” “The Chosen One,” “Destiny,” “Darkest Sin,” “My Peace,” “Place Of Darkness,” “Welcome To Eternity,” “Sacrifice,” “Rest My Child,” “Purgatory,” “Revelation.” Hype: “After the self-released WORLD OF SILENCE (2008) and 2011’s FALL FROM GRACE (Lion Music/Hydrant Music), now with PURGATORY the band reaches a whole new level. Their surprisingly high recognition value not only comes from the tasteful instrumentations but also from Matt Marinelli’s expressive voice which elegantly guides through the 12 songs on PURGATORY. Borealis create atmospheric depth like only few others are able to do. Their partly quite modern guitar riffs merge with classic power metal, progressive elements and a symphonic touch, to build a heavy and intense, yet melodic sound which fans of bands like Evergrey, Kamelot and Nocturnal Rites will embrace to the fullest.” Check out an album teaser trailer at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJUs5zPrk_4 . See http://www.afm-records.de/ for more.

Hype: “The US-American band Edge Of Paradise plays melodic Heavy Metal in the best way and with perfectly catchy hooks and melody lines. There are always powerful parts in the music to keep it away from AOR and Hard Rock. So it’s outstanding powerful Metal on the highest professional level.” See http://www.edgeofparadiseband.com/ , http://www.facebook.com/EdgeOfParadiseBand , http://www.reverbnation.com/edgeofparadiseband , http://www.twitter.com/edgeofparadise1 , and http://www.youtube.com/edgeofparadiseworld for more.

-The Ghost Next Door, a “US alternative metal” band from the San Francisco Bay Area, has its self-titled debut album due out June 19 through Mausoleum Records. This is combined with great progressive elements, which creates a mixture you have to love . . . melodic heavy metal bliss from start to finish.” The album was produced by Karl Groom (Threshold, Edenbridge, DragonForce) and mastered by Peter Van’t Riet (Symphony X, Transatlantic, Epica), and has this track list: “The Mara,” “In Memoria Di Me,” “The New Crusade,” “No Regrets,” “Defiance,” “Burden Of Proof,” “The Ever Becoming,” “Damage Report,” “Euphoria.” See http://www.nightmareworld.co.uk/ and http://www.facebook.com/nightmareworld for more.

-Starquake’s TIMES THAT MATTER is out May 29 through Pure Rock Records. Hype: “Starquake’s music was influenced by Iron Maiden, Spock’s Beard, and ’70s Hard Rock and comprises heavy guitars, fat drums, and sophisticated vocals. Seasoned with some Hammond Organ and great arrangements, TIMES THAT MATTER is always harmonic and favors songs and melody.” The band consists of Mikey Wenzel (vocals, instruments), Alex Kugler (guitars), Joe Wagner (guitars), Michael “Wopsi” Wopshall (guitars), Andreas Pernpeintner (Hammond), Jan “Donkey” Van Meerendonk (drums), Corinna Reif (violin), and Sandra Wenzel (additional vocals).
