-Kiss & Def Leppard Commit To Hire Two Veterans As Roadies

Following Nationwide Search, Two Veterans Will Join Bands For 2014 Summer Tour

NEW YORK, NY — On Friday, April 11th, rock bands Kiss and Def Leppard announced their commitment to hire two veterans as roadies for their 2014 summer tour as part of the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Capital One’s Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign. The bands made their hiring announcement live on the NBC “Today Show” in New York after deciding jointly to dedicate their upcoming summer tour to the military community. Following a nationwide search, two veterans will be chosen to support the bands’ production team on the 42-city North American tour.

This will be the second time Kiss has carried out a nationwide search for a veteran roadie. Two years ago, Army veteran and longtime Kiss fan Paul Jordan was chosen to join a summer tour after a review of 1,900 applications sent in from coast to coast. He went on to tour 44 cities with the band, helping with the set up and breakdown at each stop.

Kiss and Def Leppard announced the 2014 summer tour last month during a press conference at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Both groups have agreed to donate $2 of every ticket sold to various military nonprofits, including Hiring Our Heroes, the USO, Project Resiliency/The Raven Drum Foundation, Augusta Warrior Project, and Wounded Warrior Project.

Veterans who wish to apply for the positions can go to Military.com/Heroes for more information. All applications must be received by Friday, May 9th at 11:59 p.m. Military.com will work with Kiss and Def Leppard to select the final two veterans.

NEW YORK, NY — Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the May 13 release of LIVE IN LONDON: HAMMERSMITH APOLLO 1993 on DVD, SD Blu-ray, and double CD formats, from the incomparable Dio [Pre-book Order Date April 18, MSRP $14.98 DVD, $19.98 SD Blu-ray, $17.98 2CD].

This is the first ever video release of this classic 1993 concert and includes anthems such as “Holy Diver,” “Rainbow In The Dark,” “Strange Highways,” “Stand Up And Shout,” “Man On The Silver Mountain,” “Heaven And Hell,” “We Rock,” and more. Filmed at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on December 12, 1993, this concert film captures the then newly-reformed Dio on the last night of their European tour in support of the STRANGE HIGHWAYS album. The lineup of Ronnie James Dio (vocals), Vinny Appice (drums), Jeff Pilson (bass), Tracy G (guitar), and Scott Warren (keyboards) delivered a blistering performance of tracks from their new album, previous Dio classics, and favorites from Ronnie’s career with Black Sabbath and Rainbow. In addition to this amazing concert, the AV formats offer a bonus Behind-The-Scenes feature entitled “Hangin’ With The Band.”

One of the most influential and celebrated vocalists / frontmen of hard rock and heavy metal, the late Ronnie James Dio’s commanding vocals and mammoth stage presence has resonated with generations of fans. His sophisticated, classical vocalization mixed with imaginative, fantastical song themes was genre-defining, establishing him as one of music’s most beloved icons. LIVE IN LONDON: HAMMERSMITH APOLLO 1993 masterfully captures him and his namesake band, Dio.

-Helloween Announces Their Return To Nuclear Blast

Founded in 1984 and hailed as one of the pioneering power metal bands from Germany, the Hamburg-based quintet Helloween is celebrating their 30th Anniversary in 2014 and have announced their return to Nuclear Blast’s worldwide artist family.

“As a label, Nuclear Blast is ‘Heavy Metal to the bone,'” shares Helloween vocalist Andi Deris, “and we are really looking forward to working together with a lot of familiar faces.”

Nuclear Blast’s founder & label owner Markus Staiger is overwhelmed at bringing the band back into the fold. “We are more than proud that Helloween is part of the Nuclear Blast family again,” he states. “All those years we had a friendship-like connection and our ways crossed on a regular basis at concerts and festivals. Helloween to us is a matter of the heart. There’s not only the two records we released [THE DARK RIDE in 2000 and RABBIT DON’T COME EASY in 2003], but they’re an act that has influenced me and many of our employees. Together there are big plans and we are looking forward to having another productive and successful cooperation.”

Following Helloween’s appearances on the European summer festival circuit, the band will enter Mi Sueño Studio on the island of Tenerife off the coast of Morocco with producer Charlie Bauerfeind (Blind Guardian, HammerFall, Primal Fear) to record a new studio album for an early 2015 release.

Last month, Nuclear Blast released special edition reissues of THE DARK RIDE and RABBIT DON’T COME EASY, featuring three bonus tracks on each album, which can be ordered from the Nuclear Blast USA Webshop.

STRAIGHT OUT OF HELL, Helloween’s latest studio album released in early 2013, debuted on the German album chart at #4 — the band’s highest chart entry in their home country to date — and held this position for five weeks. The album had five other “Top Ten” album entries in Europe and also cracked the American Billboard Top 100 chart with an entry at #97.

-Accept Release New Album BLIND RAGE On July 18th Worldwide

[Note: This comes from AcceptWorldwide.com. – Tim]

Hardly any other band has influenced the Heavy Metal genre as much as German legends Accept! Classics albums such as RESTLESS AND WILD (1982), BALLS TO THE WALL (1983), and METAL HEART (1985) have inspired generations of new bands, and this has continued since their reunion in 2009. Both BLOOD OF THE NATIONS (2010) and STALINGRAD (2012) entered the charts globally (#6 in Germany, #81 in the USA) and underline the premiere league status Accept still have today.

Now Accept announce the release of their new studio album: “Something happened to us, something subliminal and impetuous,” commented main composer Wolf Hoffmann. “It is wild and scary and it’s called BLIND RAGE!”

BLIND RAGE, just like its two predecessors, has been produced, mixed, and mastered by Andy Sneap. On July 18, 2014 BLIND RAGE will be released worldwide. “The cover artwork done by Daniel Goldsworthy shows the beast coming over us — in blind rage — all over the planet. Wherever we go, whenever you turn on the TV — there is blind rage in the works — either natural catastrophes or man-made madness,” the axe man of Accept states.

-Rubicon Cross To Release Debut Full-Length Self-Titled Record On INgrooves Records On May 19th

First Single And Video “Bleed With Me” To Drop On April 8

Rubicon Cross, featuring award-winning vocalist C.J. Snare (from multi-Platinum selling, world-renowned band FireHouse) and guitar virtuoso Chris Green (Pride/Furyon), will release its debut, self-titled, full-length record on May 19, 2014, on INgrooves.

Now hailing from Chicago, C.J. Snare and Chris Green first met while on tour in Europe when they shared the stage at a rock festival in Madrid. A close friendship was forged through sharing a decade of life experience that would ultimately serve as the creative nucleus for this project.

It was clear from their very first collaboration that the songs they were writing needed to be released separately from their other pursuits. Together they formed Rubicon Cross. With the addition of Pride/Furyon bassist Simon Farmery (who co-wrote “Save Me Within”), Seventh Omen drummer Robert Behnke, and second guitarist Jeff Lerman, Rubicon Cross became a band of brothers, willing to tackle the music, the road, and bring life to these songs of fight, commitment, and connection.

The lush melodic core of the songwriting is given a forceful, aggressive boost on this record. From the first single, “Bleed With Me,” that starts just as propulsive as it ends, to “Kill Or Be Killed,” that has a relentless metal drive, RUBICON CROSS is a collection of contemporary heavy music that sits just as comfortably next to hard rock classics as it does modern rock upstarts. “Locked And Loaded” is featured in the Xbox360 and PS3 game “Dirt Showdown” along side of new rock heavy-hitters Rise Against, Rival Sons, and The Parlor Mob.

Check out the video for “Bleed With Me” here:

Check out the song for “Bleed With Me” here:

Track List:
1. Locked And Loaded
2. Next Worse Enemy
3. Bleed With Me
4. Save Me Within
5. You Will Remember Me
6. Moving On
7. R U Angry
8. Shine
9. Kill Or Be Killed
10. All The Little Things

RUBICON CROSS was recorded at Black Dog Studios in Atlanta, GA, and Snare Bear Studios in Milwaukee, WI, with Ken (Grand) Lanyon and C.J. engineering. The album was mixed and mastered by award-winning, Platinum-selling producer / engineer, Rick Beato. All songs were written by C.J. Snare and Chris Green except “Save Me Within” which was penned by C.J. Snare, Chris Green, and Simon Farmery.

-Rage: More Details About THE SOUNDCHASER ARCHIVES Revealed!

[Note: This combines multiple press releases. – Tim]

After previously announcing the cover artwork and track list of their upcoming 30th anniversary release THE SOUNDCHASER ARCHIVES, which will be out on May 23, German Heavy Metal masters Rage now present the first part of their liner notes on this ultimate song collection.

1. “Anybody Home?”: This is a newly recorded song we created from leftover ideas we had from the 21 sessions. At that time we couldn’t find the right grooves for it and after changing the arrangement a million times, it was too late for that album. Now, after re-visiting the tune two years later, it came out naturally. It was real fun for us to turn up the volume and kick it out roughly, a good marker for our future.

2. “Mystery Trip”: This was a bonus track for the European limited edition version of UNITY.

3. “In Union”: This is a leftover song Victor wrote for the album INTO THE LIGHT which he produced for the Nuclear Blast 25th Anniversary. Originally it was planned that HammerFall’s Joacim Cans would sing it, but we couldn’t schedule the recording session, as he was too busy. So we planned to give it to Tarja Turunen with new lyrics written especially for her (‘Raven And Swan’). Unfortunately she also turned it down, as it seemed too heavy for her, so she sang something different. In the end the song was used by Mind Odyssey for their TIME TO CHANGE IT album. What you hear now is our first demo with Peavy’s pilot vocals.

4. “Long Hard Road”: At the time we worked on CARVED IN STONE, we used to rehearse in the studio, so we would record our new ideas directly in a good quality. What you hear is absolutely live with no overdubs at all. This is already the second version we recorded, five minutes before that, Peavy finished the lyrics.

5. “Full Moon” (international version): This is a re-mix from several versions of this song we did as bonus tracks for the diverse versions of SPEAK OF THE DEAD. At this time we recorded the song in five different languages that were only issued in the specific territories. Peavy sung it in English, German, Spanish, Russian, and Japanese. Of course these versions were real live killers in the language’s countries, as you can imagine. For the first time you can hear a funny new mix with all these languages, a Babylonian joy.

6. “Nevermore”: This first demo version of this song we recorded on an 8-track machine in our rehearsal room. We didn’t change much for our later issued version for THE MISSING LINK. The band was in a very creative phase at that time and we used to meet nearly every day, drink too much coffee, and work on songs till the late evening.

7. “French Bourree”: A while before we recorded SOUNDCHASER, Victor had put out his second solo album MAJESTY AND PASSION where he interpreted music from Johann Sebastian Bach in his very own style. He had arranged a lot more tunes from that fantastic Baroque composer, so we could also use two of them for Rage. Unfortunately they were only used as bonus tracks; this one was for the European limited edition of the album. We’ve played it live several times with the Lingua Mortis Orchestra.

8. “A Perfect Day”: This is another song written for the INTO THE LIGHT album. The original version was sung by Andi Deris from Helloween. Here we issue our demo version with Peavy’s pilot vocals for the first time.

9. “Enough Is Enough”: This is a very early sketch of this song, recorded even before we did a real demo. After we had recorded the EXTENDED POWER EP, we had some studio time left that we used to tape some rough ideas for the next album, which turned out to be TRAPPED! This recording is absolutely live with no overdubs.

10. “Here Comes The Night”: This is a leftover song we had written for SOUNDCHASER. As we had too many songs in the end we decided to use it for the next album, which, of course, we forgot. Issued here for the first time with new drum tracks from Andrè, as we were not permitted to use the original drum tracks from Mike Terrana.

11. “Spiritual Awakening”: This is the demo version of that song written for the GHOST album. There’s no orchestration or keyboards here like later on the album version. Victor had just joined the band and we tried to give the material a bit more heaviness, as the former guitarists had left the scene with just a few poor tracks. Unfortunately the record company demanded a less heavy version, so here you can hear that song for the first time in a heavy riffing shape, like it was meant to be.

12. “Lost In The Void”: That’s another one from the CARVED IN STONE demo session. Again, absolutely live in the studio without any overdubs with a spontaneous crazy jam session solo from Victor.

13. “The Missing Link”: Another track from the THE MISSING LINK demos.

14. “Another Kind Of Madness”: Here you can listen to the first recording of that song, in a complete different arrangement, like it was planned for TRAPPED! It didn’t make it on the album, as Noise Records thought it was too progressive for us. Later, we did an acoustic version that was used as a bonus track for THE MISSING LINK. What you here now is a rough sketch, absolutely live in the studio, no overdubs and nearly no lyrics (!), Peavy is improvising on some early ideas.

15. “Down To The Bone”: This is a song from the long-lost Avenger EP DEPRAVED TO BLACK, originally released on a very small German label (Wishbone) in 1985. Avenger was the original name of the band, after this EP we had changed our name to Rage, as our next label Noise demanded. The Avenger material (PRAYERS OF STEEL plus the songs from the EP) were added as a bonus CD to the first edition of BLACK IN MIND in 1995, but were never really re-released. Here you can get an idea of how the band sounded in their very beginning. There’s some funny sound features in the middle part of that song: check out the “torture scene” with self-recorded chain whips (we used Peavy’s bass belt for that (!).

Following more info about the tracks #16 – #30 of CD #2:

1. “The Speed Of Sound”: Here’s another newly recorded song we’ve made from leftover ideas. It is based on stuff written for END OF ALL DAYS in 1996, now freshly pimped up with new ideas. It captures some of the good old power metal spirit but our performance sounds a lot more modern.

2. “Darkness Turns To Light”: The second bonus track we recorded for UNITY. It was issued only in Japan so far.

3. “Death Is Alive”: This song was also written for INTO THE LIGHT for Nuclear Blast’s 25th Anniversary. The original version was sung by Mats Leven (ex-Therion). The here issued demo version features Peavy’s guide vocals (including his imitation of the female voice).

4. “Gentle Murders”: CARVED IN STONE demo session, part three. Strictly live in the studio without any overdubs. The decision to go down with the main guitar part from comfortable A minor to G minor gave this killer riff much more energy, but also made it difficult to play.

5. “From The Cradle To The Grave”: This is a special version of this demo recorded for the XIII album. After Victor had joined the band we wanted to give the song a more interesting guitar solo, so we tested some ideas from Victor on that old demo, as the solo track was free. As we were quite consumed by putting the band together again we lost it out of sight. As we went through our archives we found it again. It’s a real rarity.

6. “Refuge”: THE MISSING LINK Demos, part three.

7. “Fugue No. 5”: This instrumental is another genius composition by Johann Sebastian Bach in the fantastic arrangement by Victor Smolski. It was used as a bonus track for the Japanese version of SOUNDCHASER and is previously unreleased in the rest of the world. We played it live once on the international Bach days Festival in Leipzig, the place where the master lived and died.

8. “Last Goodbye”: This song was quite rare already in its original version for the BEYOND THE WALL EP in 1992. This is the rough demo for it we had recorded live in the studio more than a year before. No overdubs.

9. “Dirty Wings”: Another track we did for the INTO THE LIGHT session. It has a different solo than the later recorded album version. On the original you hear Tobi Sammet from Edguy/Avantasia singing. This Demo has Peavy’s guide vocals.

10. “The Pit And The Pendulum”: The last one from the MISSING LINK demos issued here.

11. “Waterfalls”: Previously unreleased. This funny long song is an example of our overloading creativity in the early ’90s. We were jamming on the quite psychedelic composition with an open end. Here you can hear an already edited version; we have cut out some longer endless solos and vocal experiments, too strange for unexperienced ears. Everything is live in the studio, no overdubs, of course.

12. “Heads Off”: This is the first demo version of the song later called “Bloodsuckers” which Victor produced for INTO THE LIGHT, sung by Destruction’s Schmier. As he wanted to contribute some of his own ideas, we wrote some new words together. This early demo with Peavy’s vocals features the original text.

13. “Assorted By Satan”: The track starts with the complete intro played by Peavy on the classical guitar which was faded at half on the Avenger PRAYERS OF STEEL album. The intro was taken from Avenger’s first demo, the rest of the song is the original album version. This is how it all started.

14. “Shame On You”: This track is from the second demo session for TRAPPED!, the band recorded in their rehearsal room. Check the very authentic Arabian native vocals in the intro.

15. “Soundchaser”: Finally here’s the first version of our SOUNDCHASER title track. It has various arrangement differences compared to the later released album version. The demo is issued here with newly recorded drums from Andre, as we couldn’t use the original tracks from Mike.

THE SOUNDCHASER ARCHIVES will be out on May 23, 2014 via Nuclear Blast. Diving into their own history, Rage has 21 studio albums released to date, covering three decades of an unbeatable Heavy Metal career.

-Overkill: Cover Artwork & Track Listing Of WHITE DEVIL ARMORY Unveiled!

New Jersey thrash metal veterans Overkill will release their new album, WHITE DEVIL ARMORY, on July 18, 2014 via Nuclear Blast. The effort was tracked at Gear Recording and will be mixed by Greg Reely, who also worked on 2012’s THE ELECTRIC AGE.

The track listing of WHITE DEVIL ARMORY will be as follows:

1. Freedom Rings
2. Where There’s Smoke…
3. Pig
4. Amorist
5. Down To The Bone
6. Bitter Pill
7. King Of The Rat Bastards
8. Another Day To Die
9. It’s All Yours
10. In The Name

The cover artwork for WHITE DEVIL ARMORY can be seen at http://www.nuclearblast.de/ .

Said Overkill in a statement: “We are still working on the new record, but this is gonna be worth the wait, with more old-school, face-melting thrash!”

Speaking to Steppin’ Out magazine, Overkill vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth stated about the band’s upcoming album: “The new record has a blend of what we’ve done over the past half-decade. I’m noticing it’s a more punchy heavy metal record with more dimension than the last record had. Where is it going to end up on the food chain? I really don’t know. But my feeling is it’s an eclectic collection of moments from us. THE ELECTRIC AGE came across, to me, as kind of a two-dimensional thrash record. This one is punchy but has a whole different bunch of ways to go and things to hear on it.”

Overkill released a very special limited tour edition of THE ELECTRIC AGE in Europe on April 19, 2013 via Nuclear Blast. The limited 2CD tour edition included the regular album as well as four additional live tracks on a bonus CD, recorded at The Metro in Sidney, Australia on September 25, 2010.

-Standout Track From Ethan Brosh Gets The Video Treatment: “Space Invaders”

The buzz continues to build for guitar hero Ethan Brosh, and it will undoubtedly only grow stronger now that a brand new video has been filmed for one of the many standout tracks from his latest album, LIVE THE DREAM, titled “Space Invaders.”

The clip puts Brosh’s impressive six-string skills front and center, which can be viewed by following this link:

As Brosh himself explains, “A music video is something that has to go hand in hand with the music that it’s associated with. It is part of the art as a whole. It is the image that will stay in the minds of the listeners for as long as they listen to that particular musical piece. When I have a music video done, I take the process almost as seriously as I take my music. A lot of time, energy, and attention to detail gets into play when we shoot or edit a video.”

And Brosh has nothing but praise for the video’s director, Seth C. Brown. “This video was made by Seth C. Brown who can turn any rushed, impossible-to-shoot scene with bad lighting into a beautiful work of art! I’m very proud of the new video for ‘Space Invaders,’ and can’t wait to make more videos for this record!”

LIVE THE DREAM was mixed by Max Norman (Ozzy, Megadeth), and features the talents of world-class bassist Dave Ellefson, as well as the mastering of Bob Ludwig (Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden), and an album cover painting by Joe Petagno (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd). LIVE THE DREAM was issued via Carmine Appice’s label Rocker Records LLC on March 4th , and is available for purchase via these links:

-New Lyric Video From California Breed

The celebrated hard rock power trio California Breed, which consists of Glenn Hughes (vocals, bass), Jason Bonham (drums), and Andrew Watt (guitar), have released the official lyric video for their current single “Midnight Oil.”

The video can be viewed, shared, and embedded from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF_pm7mLqXs . The song will also be available as an instant grat track by pre-ordering the album exclusively from iTunes worldwide via this link: http://smarturl.it/CaliforniaBreed .

The animated lyric video was created by Nev Todoroic who spearheads the interactive media production company The Young Astronauts.

Says California Breed’s guitarist, Andrew Watt: “We wanted a lyric video that would make people want to watch this song in addition to just listen to it, one that would highlight the bombastic grooves of the track and convey the rhythm of the message. I turned to my friends, the Young Astronauts, whose previous videos have hundreds of millions of views, but they don’t work with a lot of rock bands and I thought THAT’S the magic, right there.”

“It’s a refreshing animated video that really captures the lyrical concert and message of the ‘Midnight Oil’ single,” says California Breed’s vocalist and bassist, Glenn Hughes. “We didn’t want to make a run-of-the-mill lyric video. The animation perfectly captures the raw energy, lyrical content, and the message of what ‘Midnight Oil’ is really all about… rock ‘n’ roll!!”

“Midnight Oil” is UK’s first single taken from California Breed’s self-titled debut album released by Frontiers Records in Europe on May 16th, and in the UK and US on May 19th. Produced in Nashville, Tennessee by Dave Cobb (Rival Sons, Shooter Jennings) the album features 23-year-old guitarist Andrew Watt, who was originally introduced to Glenn Hughes by Julian Lennon at a party in L.A. in 2013.

California Breed are planning a UK and European tour in September. Tour dates will be announced shortly.

-Lion Music Label & Artist News

Lion Music is pleased to announce a digital re-release of the second album from Condition Red, simply entitled II, which features a re-mixed sound. It is available through iTunes and CDBaby.

In 2003, three years after Condition Red’s eponymous debut the band were back with their second opus, II, which mixed progressive metal with hard rock, neoclassical, and fusion.

This second album is for the most part is quite different from what the band did on their self-titled first album, even though some elements tie the two releases together. The biggest change saw singer/violinist Ella Grussner now playing a major part in the band’s refreshed sound but also Alexander King’s keyboards made a much bigger impact this time round. Gerald Kloos (Empire) was the new drummer whilst guitars are once again played by two monster musicians — Lars Eric Mattsson and Alex Masi.

Condition Red’s II contains 13 songs, of which some are shorter instrumental interludes — and there is no song over seven minutes, unlike on the first album where the focus was on more intricate numbers. This second album proved the band had matured musically and in terms of style is heavier, i.e. more progressive metal, than the debut album. The music has much clearer direction as all songs contained here share similar styles combining heavy metal and neoclassical with good melody lines.

The album was written in 2002 and recorded and released in 2003, although the track “Train Insane” was written way back in 1994 for Lars Eric Mattsson’s band Astral Groove but the original recording was never released.

Lars Eric Mattsson went back in 2013 to re-mix and master the album and the finished product is now more suited to the band’s founding members original vision. Mattsson comments, “The advent of better technology at my disposal has allowed me to craft the sound of both Condition Red albums to better reflect what I originally intended. I hope fans will enjoy these re-workings.”

Joe Stump – REVENGE OF THE SHREDLORD

Ninth solo album from one of rock/metal’s leading guitar authorities. REVENGE OF THE SHREDLORD is extremely intense guitar-wise yet still with plenty of killer riffs and strong melodies. Joe’s amazing playing is showcased nicely inside very listenable musical songs that use influences from various schools of metal. It’ll appeal to both guitar enthusiasts as well as fans of guitar-driven metal.

Section A – THE SEVENTH SIGN

Originally released in 2003 THE SEVENTH SIGN marked the debut release of progressive metal act Section A. Now the album sees a limited edition digi-pak reissue of only 500 units along with an additional bonus track not featured on the original release. Features past and present members of Fatal Force, Fate, Vanden Plas, Planet X, Lion’s Share, Speaking To Stones, and Dream Theater.

Daniele Liverani – ELEVEN MYSTERIES

Perhaps better known as the keyboard and musical mastermind behind Twinspirits, Genius Rock Opera, Cosmics, and Khymera, the multi-talented Daniele Liverani is also a guitarist of considerable skill as his new instrumental album ELEVEN MYSTERIES testifies.

-Lalu: French Composer Announces Endorsement By Roland; New Album In The Works For 2015 Release

French progressive metal keyboardist and composer, Vivien Lalu, is ecstatic to announce his new official sponsorship by Roland Keyboards. Having relied heavily on the brand for his entire career thus far, this new endorsement is a major breakthrough for the artist.

Stated Lalu on his union with the company: “After twenty years of using their keyboards I can now say that I’m proud to have joined the Roland family! I want to thank Roland Japan for the great welcome, and look forward to present you their amazing new products.”

In September 2013, Sensory Records released Lalu’s newest solo album, ATOMIC ARK. Having raked in rave reviews from international media outlets, the expansive but direct delivery of this talented songwriter is at its finest yet on this cinematic masterpiece, boasting an array of expansive elements with a dark edge. The opus was fully conceived and composed by Lalu, the musician having enlisted an all-star lineup of vocalist Martin LeMar (Mekong Delta), bassist Mike LePond (Symphony X), guitarist Simone Mularoni (DGM) and drummer Virgil Donati (Planet X), in addition to countless guest contributions, to complete the album. Alongside the release of his new masterwork, Vivien Lalu also announced that half of his royalties for ATOMIC ARK were to be donated directly to Paris/NYC-based animal rescue organization ALERTE SOS!

Lalu is currently immersed in the creation of new material for his full-length follow-up to ATOMIC ARK for Sensory Records, having already confirmed its title as ORKEYSTRA. Contrary to his ONIRIC METAL debut and ATOMIC ARK, the impending ORKEYSTRA will venture into new territory by featuring multiple singers in addition to Martin LeMar, who usually handles all vocals. New information on the next chapter in the Lalu lineage will be released throughout the rest of the year in preparation for its release in 2015.

For now fans can order ATOMIC ARK now direct from Sensory/The Laser’s Edge at https://www.lasercd.com/node/10184 .

“The catchy bits will be stuck in your head for days on end, the heavy parts will never not make you bang your head, the beautiful parts will always be touching, the ethereal and dream-like parts will always evoke images in your head, and the musicianship will never not impress.” – Metal Injection

“The album is driven by Lalu’s sense of fine-tuned technicality and majestic flair.” – PopMatters

“The concise track lengths serve to emphasize the satiating guitar focused delivery… Lalu’s hook littered and varied song writing is sure to catch the attention of progressive metal fans with this individualized method of album construction.” – Metal Storm

“…blistering guitar solos, soaring vocals, and complex song arrangements… The musicianship is top-notch and there is a nice diversity to the songwriting…a progressive powerhouse.” – About.com

-Metal Babe Mayhem Is Taking Over The World… One Shirt At A Time

LOS ANGELES, CA — Founded in 2005 by Hollywood transplant, Alison Cohen, Metal Babe Mayhem is on a mission to be your rock lifestyle outlet. With a clothing and accessories line consisting of unique T-shirt designs and types (including see-through shirts and tank tops, dresses, and hot pants), jewelry (a variety of necklaces, earrings, pendants, and wrist cuffs), onesies, hoodies, and more.

Metal Babe Mayhem also has a selection of handmade guitar pick jewelry and a variety of necklaces and bracelets from other manufacturers, including Alchemy Gothic.

Cohen began Metal Babe Mayhem (originally Metal Babe Productions) because she was working on a rock n’ roll game show and wanted to build a following and gain recognition for her lips/crossbones logo prior to the release of the television show. Unbeknownst to her, Metal Babe Mayhem really took off, and Cohen was so happy with the success that she put all her focus into designing, producing, and marketing her brand.

Metal Babe Mayhem tank tops have been featured on VH1 Classic’s “That Metal Show” by Miss Box Of Junk (Jennifer Leah Gottlieb) and seen onstage by musicians such as Jeff Duncan, (Armored Saint/DC4) Troy Patrick Farrell (White Lion/Gilby Clarke/Cheap Thrill), Chris Sanders (London/Night Fury), David Shankle (DSG), and Michael Angelo Batio (Nitro).

The St. Louis native is about more than just her clothing and accessories, however. Cohen also has a blog with live concert reviews, interviews, and CD reviews, and features a calendar of upcoming events and a rotating monthly playlist, making metalbabemayhem.com your one stop rock music source. “This is a way for me to share my love for music and my Hollywood rock n’ roll lifestyle with people all over the world,” she says. “When I write, I want you to feel like you are right by my side the whole time. I love giving people the opportunity to live vicariously through me, and even better if they do it while wearing some Metal Babe Mayhem Merchandise!”

Alison “Metal Babe” Cohen: “I do it all for the love of the music.”

Edge Of Thorns – INSOMNIA

NEW! Release Date April 4th 2014

INSOMNIA is the title of their new and third album. One hour of heavy metal, powerful, with melody! David Brixius seasons the 12 songs with killer leads, catchy, feelingly, brilliant! Guest singer for the metal hymn “Metal Unity” is Ralf Scheepers (ex-Gamma Ray, Primal Fear) who does a superb job! A video was done for this one as well. Edge Of Thorns having a sound that grasps of contemporary developments and at the same level with other major players of the style!

Tip: “Metal Unity,” “Yearning Has Begun,” “Death Dealer”
For fans of: Rage / Gamma Ray

Still Hot / Releases Of The Last Months:

Switchblade are resurrecting the mighty ’80s era of metal while often recalling Iron Maiden with Bruce Dickinson at the helm, huge, powerful sawing riffs a’la Accept and spreading catchy choruses. All are the cornerstones of a brilliant album. With murderous riffery the four musicians forged an album which makes all goatie-bearer withering their herb! The errand to the attic is your principal duty to arouse your long since forgotten jeans jacket!

HEAVY WEAPONS consists of nine tracks, a few from the band’s past along with fresh material. All those who like the Metalhead debut (KMR-CD012) also will love Switchblade! Another top album of traditional heavy metal which soon will find a lot of fans!

“Infernal Paradise”:

Virus – A NEW STRAIN OF AN OLD DISEASE CD
Thrash Metal from England
KMR-CD021

The band which is also part of metal history with records like PRAY FOR WAR, FORCE RECON, or LUNACY! New five-song EP with 26 minutes playing time!

Anihilated – IDEVIANT CD
Thrash Metal from England
KMR-CD020

Anihilated new album IDEVIANT!!! A brilliant Thrash attack showing the band is among the best bands from the United Kingdom! Never heard of them? You should do your history lessons!

Remember on records like CREATED IN HATE or THE ULTIMATE DESECRATION! Early British Thrash!

Rezinwolf – CORRUPTION KINGDOM CD
Thrash Metal from England
KMR-CD019

With Rezinwolf another British Thrash band besides Anihilated and Virus are under contract to Killer Metal Records. Rezinwolf offer on their debut album a grand display of fireworks without thrashing unsophisticatedly or forgetting melodies. Lyrically the new album covers various topics all centered around a main theme of corruption and its different forms, be it within government, mental health, or living in a disjointed society. All the lyrics are spawned from vocalist Dan Murphy’s experiences and observations of the world around him, and as such are often thought provoking, poignant, and sometimes even completely satirical. A remarkable debut of great fun and it does not like to leave the CD player!

The band plays on this year Bloodstock festival in England.

Dragonsclaw – JUDGEMENT DAY CD
Heavy Metal from Australia
KMR-CD018

We are pleased to announce that Dragonsclaw have signed with Killer Metal Records for the release of the new album JUDGEMENT DAY.

JUDGEMENT DAY follows the path of PROPHECY — so no surprises here! Nine songs, typically Dragonsclaw including a cover version of the Warlord classic “Lucifer’s Hammer.” Warlord fans already could witness singer Giles Lavery on their three Europe gigs fronting the US cult band in spring 2013. The second album also has two guest appearances, this time David Reece, known as singer for Accept and second ex-Virgin Steele guitarist Jack Starr.

Ritual Steel – IMMORTAL CD
Heavy Metal from Germany
KMR-CD017

The condemned live longer — Ritual Steel have done an album which is with nearly 72 minutes playing time not only the longest and most varying one in the band history but also the musically ambitious one. Absolutely Heavy Metal! Raw! Heavy! Catchy! A gem!

Shallow Ground – THE END OF EVERYTHING CD
Thrash Metal from USA
KMR-CD016

Noticeable many young Thrash bands emulating old heroes like Venom or Hellhammer. This sounds very often like musicians in a junk room with bad guitar solos and poor vocals. The newcomers often forget that in the early ’80s of the last millennium the style was initially discovered or the bands were not able to play better.

Shallow Ground do not have jump on the bandwagon. The American band shows well-done Thrash, technically and musically fine with great songs. They can be queued among many established acts without drawing concrete comparisons between them to easily. The interspersed harmonies and having the knack for skilful arrangements let the nearly 60 minutes pass without having any boredom at all. Shallow Ground rivet and waking the desire for more!

Cyanide Scream – BATTLE ON CD
Heavy Metal from USA
KMR-CD014

With a new bass player Mark Daven the second album of this USA-based band was recorded. BATTLE ON follows strictly the path of the debut. The Heavy Metal of the ’70s and early ’80s was a development of the beat of the ’60s and Rock. Characterized by comprehensible song structures with the understanding for catchy tunes those bands were far from what is meant by the term “Heavy Metal” today. Cyanide Scream are based in this old tradition but sounding very up to date! Listen to the catchy “Forever Holding On” or the ballad “In The cold!”

Taipan – METAL MACHINE CD
Heavy Metal from Australia
KMR-CD015

Taipan’s best known record was released in 1981 and is greatly respected by fans around the world. In 1985 the last record of the early period was released before the Aussies returned with STONEWITCH in 2007. End of 2011 SNAKES was released by Killer Metal Records. Now the band presents their actual studio album METAL MACHINE, a piece of timeless, dark, and heavy metal, which has its roots in the NWOBHM but not sounding antiquated. Catchy melodies do not have priority but causing moods motivating the listener diving deep in! Many changes in tempo are cribbing the varying material. Give it a listen and enjoy!

Also watch out for…

The next weeks there will be some new albums out:

KMR-CD024 Fallen Angel – CRAWLING OUT OF HELL
KMR-CD025 Dragon’s Kiss – BARBARIANS OF THE WASTELAND

by Tim Wadzinski (tsw512@yahoo.com)

-This is going to be it for Detritus, and I really, truly mean it this time — honest. I’ve been doing this for 20-odd years and it’s just time. I figured issue #666 would be the perfect ending. 🙂

I started out contributing stuff to Kurt Torster’s old SFK email newsletter in 1993/1994 (I think…) under the awesome title “Tim’s Column,” but I needed a real name. The title “Detritus” was kind of a joke. I stole the word from a sci-fi short story written by my buddy Arnie, and was inspired by its meanings of “rubble,” “disintegrated material,” and “debris” to use it to describe my attempts at covering the then-splintered ’80s metal scene.

Remember back to 1994/1995, and the state of some of my favorite bands. Judas Priest, Armored Saint, and Ratt were gone, and Lillian Axe, Winger, and Killer Dwarfs were winding down; Queensryche was about to embark on a long, steady decline, Metallica was about to get LOADed, and Ozzy was about to release the disappointing OZZMOSIS; Iron Maiden and Motley Crue were hurting; KISS, Skid Row, Accept, Dangerous Toys, Warrant, and Wildside were changing their styles; Rob Halford’s work in Fight wasn’t doing it for me; Dokken and Y&T had been in hiding but were about to re-emerge; Manowar was laying low; Blackie Lawless was piecing together a new W.A.S.P.; Dio, the Scorpions, and Great White were operating on much smaller scales…

Yes, there were some bright lights in the darkness — Savatage, Pretty Maids, Yngwie Malmsteen, Helloween, FireHouse, Dream Theater, Motorhead, Gamma Ray, Saxon, and Megadeth were all soldiering on — but overall I was bummed about the state of music and was desperately looking for something new and cool. I dug into some indie bands; I “discovered” Edwin Dare (featuring Jeff Kollman and Kevin Chown) as they opened for Dangerous Toys, and got into Enertia and Empyria through album reviews. I was big into tape trading (hello Michael Henderson, John Dokken, and Glenn Grossbier!) and started buying a *lot* of import CDs from Dream Disc and Alta Mira Cypershop. Through various means I got clued into killer bands like Running Wild, Jag Panzer, Good Rats, Pink Cream 69, and The Burnpool. I tried to hype these “new bands” as much as possible, and my contributions to SFK got bigger and bigger. We soon agreed I should split off and do my own thing, so Detritus started as its own entity.

I’ve been lucky to work with a great stable of metal head writers, reviewers, and contributors over the years. So to Neal Woodall, Keith Abt, Patrick Brower, Paul Lackey, Stephanie Kushner, Sean P. Gahgan, John Erigo, Craig Matusinski, Clay Marshall, Joel Ansier, Jan W., Stephanie Davison, etc., I say a hearty “THANK YOU.” Special mentions and extra big thanks go out to Steve Shumake, who’s been there with me from the start. YOU RULE MAN!!! My longtime buddies “Roscoe,” “Hawk,” and “Blaupunkt” also contributed quite a bit over the years. Everything is/was appreciated!!!

I’ve also been able to meet, chat with, and get to know some awesome record label and PR folks. I’m talking about Chip Ruggieri & Chipster Entertainment, Dave Tedder & Headfirst Entertainment, Lasse Mattsson & Lion Music, Carol Kaye & Kayos Productions, John Kivel & Kivel Records, Nancy B. Sayle & VQPR, Tom Mathers & Perris Records, Michael Mazur & Debbie Sellnow at Mazur PR, Dave & Liz at Earsplit PR, Axel Wiesenauer & Rock’N’Growl Promotion, Matt Rudzinski & Tribunal/Divebomb Records, Jon Asher, Mark Morton, Nathan Birk, and Andy Craven. Thanks for setting us up with all the promos, tickets, and interviews! We’ve also dealt with many people at labels like Century Media, Escape, Napalm, AFM, Metal Blade, Nuclear Blast, Frontiers, Z, Mausoleum, CMC International, FnA, Cruz Del Sur, Doolittle Group, and Sensory/The Laser’s Edge. That’s a big pile of awesome right there.

Thanks to Tim Henderson (BraveWords.com), Wes Royer & Todd Craven (Open Up And Say…), Mike McCarthy (ANT Magazine), Bands On The Run, and Pete Dziadzka for giving me other outlets to write, and for help in finding a home on the Web for Detritus. (We were drifters there for a while…)

And finally, I’ve been very fortunate to meet and/or interview tons of my rock heroes — I still say my standout interviews were with Sebastian Bach (I got him to sing part of “Can’t Stand The Heartache” into the phone for my buddy Jeff), Dee Snider (I missed his call by, like, 1 minute, and he left a sinister voice mail asking “Tim? Where are you Tim?”), Dave Meniketti (sitting atop the Penny Road Pub in South Barrington, Ill., just as the bad news about Phil Kennemore was breaking), and Harry Cody (my first real/big interview) — but the one of the best highlights from these experiences has been befriending folks like Bill Leverty, Stuart Smith, Jason McMaster, Michael Angelo Batio, Duane T. Jones, and Lyden Moon. You people keep it all running with your creations! Thanks for letting me take a peek inside your world.

Thanks for the last 20 years, and as always, “Rock Hard With A Purpose!” – Tim

ETHAN BROSH – LIVE THE DREAM (A-/B+) Rocker Records, 2014

I first heard Ethan Brosh on his excellent debut OUT OF OBLIVION, the Israeli-born guitarist impressing with a skillful combination of songwriting and virtuosity infused with an ’80s metal dynamic; five years later and he is back with new album LIVE THE DREAM and it’s been well worth the wait. Rather than simply showing off with chops over repetitive vamps, Ethan crafts actual songs, incorporating the melodic sensibilities of the Scorpions and Iron Maiden, blending in the classic shred of Jake E. Lee and George Lynch and completing this aggregate with the technical acumen of Tony MacAlpine and Greg Howe. Ethan excels at writing instrumentals that not only excite but keep your interest, from atmospheric rockers such as the title track, “Space Invaders,” and “Rude Awakening” (featuring no less than Megadeth’s Dave Ellefson on bass) to relaxing, ethereal pieces like “Knock On Wood” and “Clean Slate.” The album was produced by the legendary Max Norman (Ozzy, Lynch Mob) and mastered by studio great Bob Ludwig and sounds fantastic, Ethan capturing that huge ’80s heavy rock tone often missing in today’s recordings. Highly recommended for fans of quality guitar playing, Ethan Brosh is bringing the hard rock/metal instrumental to a new generation…
