-Gamma Ray: Power Metal Icons To Release EMPIRE OF THE UNDEAD This Spring Via earMUSIC/Armoury Records; Studio Burns Down — Band Marches On

Finally, the eleventh studio album from power metal icons, Gamma Ray, is nearing completion! Titled EMPIRE OF THE UNDEAD, it is the record that almost wasn’t.

Penned throughout 2013 with Eike Freese at the mixing desk supporting the ever-precious work of bass player and co-writer, Dirk Schlaechter, the band had just landed in South America with tour mates Helloween when some harrowing news reached Kai Hansen and crew: Hammer Studio, their home, rehearsal space, and meeting point for many metal bands throughout Germany, had burned down leaving nearly all its contents in ruins, with the exception of the tapes from their nearly-finished new studio album.

Back on their home turf, Gamma Ray evaluated their losses only to do what they do best — move on. “If this could not stop us, nothing ever will,” joked a light-hearted Hansen, adding that, “We got rid of a lot of sh*t that we gathered there. Unfortunately, a lot of good equipment as well. Anyhow, we look towards the future, we saved the production and we can continue now in this new place. By mid-January we should be done with the work on this album.”

The title track, “Empire Of The Undead,” a high-paced number in the traditionally epic Gamma Ray style that has influenced so many bands globally, has appeared on the single/EP MASTER OF CONFUSION which was released last year and served as precursor to the forthcoming full-length.

EMPIRE OF THE UNDEAD will be released in North America on CD, LP, and digitally via Armoury Records in conjunction with earMusic late this Spring. Further details to be revealed in the coming weeks. In the meantime, view a video message Kai Hansen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTff4ppFrdA .

-Doro Gets In The Ring For The Boxing World Champion, Performing Her Hit “Raise Your Fist In The Air”

German Hard Rock singer and legend Doro will perform the march-in hymn for WBO title holder Marco Huck, during his boxing fight on January 25, against challenger Firat Arslan, at the boxing-night of German national TV channel ARD.

She is a huge boxing fan herself, and best friend of female boxing legend Regina Halmich. On countless world championships, she was thrilled in the front row and was even standing in the ring herself, 2002 during the celebrity-boxing: Doro Pesch.

On January 25 she is in in the front row once more: Doro Pesch will perform the march-in hymn for WBO title holder Marco Huck, on his rematch against challenger Firat Arslan.

“I am so much looking forward to perform my hit single ‘Raise Your Fist In The Air,’ as a march-in hymn for world champion Marco Huck, as I am huge fan of boxing since my childhood. I saw many fights live, mostly of my good friend Regina Halmich, for who I was playing few times in the ring. ‘Raise Your Fist In The Air’ is the perfect song for a boxing fight, as it is about the fighting spirit, power and fists,” commented Doro.

The fight is taking place at the Hans-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart. It will be broadcasted live on German national TV channel ARD — as well as in 60 countries worldwide. Doro will perform live approx. at 23.00 CET.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. MS interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The advancement, severity, and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease.

MS affects more than 400,000 people in the US and 2.1 million worldwide.

-Sonata Arctica: New Album PARIAH’S CHILD Comes In March; Cover Released

On March 28 the new Sonata Arctica album PARIAH’S CHILD will be released. It is the band’s eighth studio album and the follow-up to their successful STONES GROW HER NAME.

Today the beautiful cover artwork for PARIAH’S CHILD will be released. Vocalist Tony Kakko explains he thoughts behind the album title and the artwork like this:

“As always it’s pretty hard coming up with a name for the new baby. I tried to approach it from many angles; how this is our eighth album and how easy it would be to abuse that fact. All the symbolism of figure eight, eternity and so on. But that just did not feel right as it’s been done so many times. Then I started to think how we’d in ways abandoned our ‘totem animal,’ the wolf and all what comes with the territory. As the music on the album is bowing more towards the ‘old’ Sonata, meaning more power metal style elements and wolves in many of the songs in one form or another, it was clear we need a wolf on the cover. An abandoned wolf. A pariah. Or Pariah’s child, actually. The new generation to bring the old logo back.”

Right after the release, Sonata Arctica will start touring again. Keyboard player Henrik “Henkka” Klingenberg left the following message:

“It’s been a while since we last toured Europe, so I’m very happy that we can announce our first tour with our new album. Since the album will be out in March 2014, we don’t want to waste any time but will head out for a full European Tour. Our tour will start in Eindhoven, NL on April 10, 2014. The whole band is really looking forward to play some new songs for you and introduce our new bass player, Pasi, for all our fans. He’s a monster live, you’ll see. -Slough Feg Launch Title Track And Pre-Orders For DIGITAL RESISTANCE!

Slough Feg have launched the title track from their brand new album, DIGITAL RESISTANCE. The record was recorded with Justin Weis (who produced the album with vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi) at Trakworx in South San Francisco from January-October 2013 and marks the band’s first new studio album since 2010’s THE ANIMAL SPIRITS. When asked if the new album was a concept album, singer and vocalist Mike Scalzi explained that DIGITAL RESISTANCE is a concept album in the sense that The Beatles’ SGT. PEPPER is a concept album. “It has somewhat of a consistent lyrical theme that runs through several of the songs, but not every song — it is not a concept album in the sense that our TRAVELLER album is.” Listen now and pre-order your copy at http://www.metalblade.com/sloughfeg .

Mike Scalzi elaborates on the concept behind the title track: “This song represents a last ditch effort to escape the inevitable. There will be no victory over technology — nor should there be in a broader sense — but I do fear what we are becoming. Biological evolution moves so slowly that we cannot perceive it. But social and moral evolution may come in great jolts or leaps. This can be dangerous to the preservation the species, biologically and morally/socially. But it’s also just fun to sing about ‘killing technology’ (like that other band from Canada did a long time ago). It’s a very dramatic subject. That’s why I call it ‘Voi-Vaudeville.'”

Scalzi discusses the cover art: “The artwork for this album was, as usual, a bit of a struggle. I had no idea how to represent an album called DIGITAL RESISTANCE. We finally decided that we wanted the background of Kiss’ DESTROYER album (a city in ruins), but instead of a rendering of our band in the forefront, I wanted the space-dog (Vargr) from TRAVELLER. But we’d already used him, so I thought about wolves. I thought maybe a symbol (involving a wolf) representing the birth of a civilization might be appropriate. And that’s what we did — we put Romulus and Remus, the two mythological children who founded Rome, and were raised by a wolf, in front of this destroyed civilization. What does it have to do with DIGITAL RESISTANCE? Modern primitivism? An atavistic civilization? Nothing whatsoever? Well, I suppose only time will tell.”

So what does Mike hope the listener will walk away with after listening to DIGITAL RESISTANCE? “Hopefully just enjoyment, entertainment. Perhaps a little bit of a lesson about the dangers of technology’s tendency to sort of dumb us down when things become so easy. The more we indulge in technology and allow it to do everything for us, especially allowing it to think for us (as in the case of looking everything up on your phone or computer rather than trying to remember and retain information), the more physically and mentally ‘flabby’ we become. So there is somewhat of an urgent message, or complaint about this increasingly human tendency.”

DIGITAL RESISTANCE is set for release in Europe on February 14, 2014 and will see Slough Feg on the road with a few West Coast shows in the US scheduled in March with the guys’ “sister band” Bible Of The Devil, from Chicago. The band is hoping to do a short tour of Europe in May/June, and then hopefully to Chicago in July to do the “Ale Horn Of Power” Festival.

Mike Scalzi – Guitars/Vocals
Angelo Tringali – Guitars
Adrian Maestas – Bass
Harry Cantwell – Drums

-Death Angel Confirmed For The Total Metal Festival!

The bill of the best Metal Festival in Southern Italy still grows up, from the Bay Area here comes a legendary band!

Along with Annihilator and Moonspell, also the American thrashers Death Angel will give some more prestige to the lineup of the Total Metal Open Air Festival that will be held on 19 and 20 July 2014 in the town of Bitonto in Italy. The Apulian Festival has already passed on all its records, but the organizers still promise: “That’s not yet all!”

Death Angel was formed in San Francisco in 1982 and they certainly are among the main leaders, along with the famous “colleagues” Metallica, Testament, Megadeth, etc., of the explosive success of so called “Bay Area Thrash Metal.” It took them just a lucky demo and a handful of awesome albums, produced by some Kirk Hammet (Yes, the guitarist of Metallica!), to make them enter into grace to all the harder fans of most genuine and sincere heavy metal, that kind of music that, without too many pleasantries, direct and strong hits you as a mighty stone in your stomach. In 1990 the band decided to disband due to the serious medical condition of drummer Andy Galeon and, with great sorrow of all their fans, it seemed that was the end of the band. But later in 2001, on the occasion of the charity project called “Thrash Of The Titans,” founded to help Testament and Death front men Chuck Billy and Chuck Schuldiner, to heal from cancer, the band reunited and, seen the warmth with which they were welcomed, they decided to get back on track and restart to realize great “old school” Thrash Metal albums! Just their last two albums, RELENTLESS RETRIBUTION, out in 2010, and the recent THE DREAM CALLS FOR BLOOD, released in 2013, confirm Death Angel as one of the metal bands more in the form of the moment!

Thanks to Total Metal Festival these unstoppable thrashers will cross for the first time ever the borders of Southern Italy to share with the audience of the prestigious Italian festival their consolidated and powerful performance!

For more news about the Total Metal Open Air Festival, for real-time updates and to discover all the various facets (musical and not only!) of this unmissable event, we recommend everyone to stay constantly connected with the official Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/TotalMetalFestival . You’ll see some good stuff there!

The successful album features Therion’s legendary hit “To Mega Therion” as well as the outstanding 10-minute epic “The Siren Of The Woods” and the hymn “Cults Of The Shadow.” It features two different choirs and Dan Swanö from Edge Of Sanity as a guest singer.

The deluxe edition of THELI has three more bonus tracks: “In Rememberance,” “Black Fairy,” and the Scorpions cover version “Fly To The Rainbow,” as well as a bonus DVD with the entire album performed live.

On top there will be a double live DVD + bonus DVD, limited edition Digi-pak called ADULRUNA REDIVIA AND BEYOND. The two shows were recorded live in Atlanta in 2011 and in Budapest 2007.

“The concert recorded in Hungary was a concert on the ‘Adulruna Rediviva’ 20 year Anniversary Tour in December. The idea of the tour was to play the entire THELI album plus a set consisting of songs that the fans had voted for on the band web page. Piotr Wawrzeniuk and our old friend Messiah Marcolin joined in to make this evening extra special. The concert in Atlanta was the band’s only show in the USA since 2007 and was shot during the band’s headline performance at the ProgPower USA festival 2011,” commented the band.

The track list will be like this:

To learn more about this great game and to purchase it, please visit http://www.scribabs.com/ .

-Solstice Set To Release Comeback Record In February

Today, Into The Void Records (a division of Invictus Productions) sets February 10 as the international release date for DEATH’S CROWN IS VICTORY, the long-awaited comeback record from legendary epic/doom metallers Solstice.

The legacy of England’s Solstice has remained untouched, and their crown unobtainable even by the few bold enough to try. However, a stirring from the sinistral depths awoke the epic metal behemoth Solstice from their slumber, and in the last three years, the band have been rehearsing, writing, and gigging around Europe and solidifying a full working lineup.

Founder member Rich Walker originally put the band on ice in 2002, but began putting the pieces back together in 2007, although it took him until 2011 to begin to find musicians who were of the same mindset and not faint-hearted. Joined by Andy Whittaker (ex-The Lamp Of Thoth), Paul Kearns (ex-Arcane Sun), Ian “Izak” Buxton (ex-Chorus Of Ruin), and James Ashbey, Solstice in 2014 live by their motto: NEVER SURRENDER — NO REMORSE.

Unleashing their first new recording in 13 years, the band have created a mini-LP of unparalleled and peerless heavy metal cutting and slashing its way through a scene of hopeless and hapless pretenders, turncoats, and the feeble. DEATH’S CROWN IS VICTORY is not a return to form; it is a statement of further intent, an undeniable clarion call to arms.

Recorded at GN Studios in Huddersfield by Kerry Hughes, and mixed and mastered by Rich Whittaker (responsible for some of today’s biggest re-mastering/re-mix work, such as Black Sabbath, The Who, The Clash, etc.) at FX Mastering, DEATH’S CROWN IS VICTORY is a step towards a more natural and live production for the band as they try to capture their onstage sound.

Further recordings will see them take this direction again and to whatever logical conclusion it reaches, as the band are now in the writing process of their next record, TO SOL A THANE, once again to be recorded with Rich Whittaker and Kerry Hughes.

Track listing for Solstice’s DEATH’S CROWN IS VICTORY is as follows:

1. Fortress England
2. I Am The Hunter
3. Death’s Crown Is Victory
4. Aequinoctium II

More on Leaf Hound:
Few bands from the protometal period command the undying respect and nods of approval as does Leaf Hound. Talk about a pedigree. Leaf Hound formed in 1969 under their original name, Black Cat Bones. Early incarnations of the Black Cat Bones featured guitarist Paul Kossoff and drummer Simon Kirke who both left to form Free. Black Cat Bones issued one album then replaced their vocalist with perfect-wailer Peter French. Guitarist Rod Price departed soon after to join Foghat and French added his cousin Mick Halls on guitar. With that change, Leaf Hound was born.

In 1971, Leaf Hound released the seminal album GROWERS OF MUSHROOM which has rightly been hailed as a bona fide worldwide cult classic of the hard rock genre, discovered by each new generation of rock fans. It has been cited as a hugely important album in the evolution of both the Heavy Metal and Stoner Rock genres, much like the first Black Sabbath album. Classic Rock Magazine has raved that GROWERS OF MUSHROOM is one of the most influential pieces of music on the stoner rock, and the album has gained a reputation as being one of the true lost gems of the early British hard rock scene. Original Decca vinyl copies on are one of the most rare collectable rock albums out there with prices soaring above £4,000! It was recorded and mixed in one brief 11-hour session in 1970. By the time it was released by Decca in 1971, the “Original incarnation of Leaf Hound” created by Peter French together with cousin Mick Halls had already broken up.

Front man French then joined up with Cozy Powell to briefly play with Birmingham based group Big Bertha, but a short time afterwards was invited by Vincent Crane to join Atomic Rooster as their lead vocalist in that same year, and recorded with them the Atomic Rooster IN HEARING OF album. It was during Atomic Rooster’s successful tour of America and Canada that Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert invited French to join the American Rock group Cactus on Atlantic Records; he accepted and left Atomic Rooster to go to the States to tour and record with Cactus OT’N’SWEATY album.

French later went on to tour and record with Polydor to record in Los Angeles the album FAST FORWARD with the German based band Randy Pie, then a few years later he would record his acclaimed solo album for Polydor, Peter French – DUCKS IN FLIGHT, which featured Brian Robertson, Kenny Jones, Mickey Moody, and Mick Halls amongst others.

In 1993 Record Collector Magazine got in touch with French to do an extensive interview and write a seven-page article about this rare previously undiscovered classic album, Leaf Hound’s GROWERS OF MUSHROOM. This almost forgotten album was later to prove to become a favorite of tape traders and bootleggers for many years; it finally received an official re-release on CD in 1994 on the Repertoire label, and it was at this point that a whole new generation of rock fans worldwide discovered its delights. As the album’s reputation and popularity spread, French was eventually persuaded to put a new version of Leaf Hound together in 2004, recruiting guitarist Luke Rayner, drummer Jimmy Rowland, and bassist Ed Pearson. After releasing a single on the Rise Above label, this new incarnation of the band released a highly acclaimed new album, Leaf Hound UNLEASHED, in 2007, on R.A.R.E./Repertoire which received excellent rock reviews, and having gained a reputation as a formidable live act. Leaf Hound appeared at several festivals in Sweden including Sweden Rock in 2006 and Mellotronen, alongside Opeth and Comus. Leaf Hound also made a high profile appearance at Holland’s Roadburn Festival, supplemented by numerous club gigs with acts such as Nazareth, Mountain, Orange Goblin, and Witchcraft.

More recently, with Pete Herbert replacing Ed Pearson on bass, the band made an acclaimed appearance at the inaugural Desertfest in London and returned to the Roadburn Festival in Holland to perform GROWERS OF MUSHROOM in its entirety to mark the album’s 40th anniversary. The band also played the Serie Z festival in Spain alongside Wishbone Ash and Y&T.

More than 40 years later after the release of that legendary GROWERS OF MUSHROOM record, Leaf Hound are finally back! It was during a sweltering hot Japanese summer of 2012, that Leaf Hound were invited to make their first ever appearance in Tokyo, Japan. These shows were recorded and filmed for a limited release in Japan as a live album and DVD package by Captain Trip Records in 2013. Leaf Hound have now teamed up with American label Ripple Music, who will be releasing the Leaf Hound LIVE IN JAPAN vinyl album and DVD/CD set worldwide (Excluding Japan) in January 2014. Ripple Music will bring to a whole new audience the legend that is Leaf Hound. With a roster of classic protometal rockers that includes Poobah, JPT Scare Band, and Iron Claw, Ripple Music has already proven its ability to bring classic rocking bands to a modern audience.

So look out world. The Leaf Hound has been unleashed once again!

Leaf Hound is:
Peter French – vocals
Luke Rayner – guitar
Ed Pearson – bass
Jimmy Rowland – drums

-Skull Fist & Suicidal Angels: January 14 Releases From NoiseArt Records

Skull Fist
NoiseArt Records
10 January 2014

Darkthrone knew very well what they were talking about when the composed the anthem “Canadian Metal” a few years back — pure steel grows in the land of maple syrup and raccoons!!! Skull Fist give us proof for that theory with their unadulterated and unabashed heavy metal. Is there anybody out there who could ever forget a smasher like “No False Metal?” There you go.

Since these young Canadians scored the Rock The Nation Award in 2010, the career of singer Jackie Slaughter and his gang has skyrocketed: their debut HEAD ÖF THE PACK has been unleashed on the hungry metal masses by NoiseArt Records August 26, 2011 and collected rave reviews worldwide. Skull Fist went on tour with Bullet, Enforcer, Sabaton, and Powerwolf, and were greeted everywhere by ravished merch tables, raised fists and thousands of new fans!!!

So Skull Fist have escaped the underground scene for good, and now it’s time to finally claim the throne of metal! Their weapons? Authenticity, ’80s spirit, and classic metal tunes with sing-along character — enter CHASING THE DREAM which will be released January 10, 2014! “It’s what you’ve always been waiting for!” tells us vocalist Jackie Slaughter. “It has new songs. And a different cover. It was recorded at a different studio. It has new guitar solos, and new rhythms. And new bass parts. And new drums. And new lyrics, and different girlish screams. And strange new dead cat vocals.” Thank you, Jackie! What the illustrious front man is trying to say is that Skull Fist didn’t bother with experiments, but instead opted once more to deliver timeless heavy metal that is perfect for every headbanger’s party. The band recorded at the Vespa Studios in Toronto: “It’s actually owned by the bro who sang in Harem Scarem back in the early ’90s! Totally right on. Harry Hess is his name. The album was mixed and mastered by Eric Ratz. We’re doing the vocals at Lenz Studios with the same guy that did the last album actually, Dan Tsourounis.”

The Canadian jokester explains the near three-year break in between HEAD ÖF THE PACK and CHASING THE DREAM as follows: “Money doesn’t grow on trees apparently. We didn’t have enough moula when we originally planned to record, so we pushed it back two months and then one month later I selfishly decided to break my neck skateboarding which put us out for another two months.” Quite the metal explanation — apology accepted! And finally a tiny glimpse at the lyrical concept of the album: “The theme is Shakespeare. Act II.”

Don’t miss Skull Fist on tour with Enforcer end of January / February 2014 because: You wanted metal? You got it!!!

Suicidal Angels
NoiseArt Records
10 January 2014

If Suicidal Angels taught us anything over the past couple of years, it’s gotta be that fine thrash metal doesn’t have to stem from the Bay Area or the Ruhr area / Germany in order to damage your neck muscles!!! Since their debut ETERNAL DOMINATION was released in 2007, this Greek bunch continues to prove with every album how do to things the old school way…

Still, the four-piece is far from living in the past. Sure you can compare the typical Suicidal Angels sound to that of genre veterans such as Kreator, but their input into the current thrash revival is bursting with insane riff ideas, a massive and modern production, and a unique and energetic live presence — the latter was clearly the case during their 2012 Full Of Hate tour with Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, Legion Of The Damned, and Misery Index.

After the great success of BLOODBATH early 2012 and the reissue of their debut ETERNAL DOMINATION in 2013, there is no rest for the wicked: DIVIDE AND CONQUER will be released on January 10, 2014 and invites you panzer cruise number five! Singer Nick recalls: “We recorded from the middle of the summer to fall of 2013. Being more specific, we started with the pre-production, done at Zero Gravity Studios, based in Athens, middle of July. It was a really tough period, since all the details of the actual recordings, should be sorted out, so that we are 200% ready to get in the studio, focused, so as to record the album. Middle August, Music Factory and Prophecy Studios welcomed us for one more time. From 2009 and three albums later, there was nothing weird to expect. One last step, but one of the most important ones, is the mix and master, this time done by Fredrik Nordstrom at Fredman Studios. We didn’t know what to expect for the final result, but what we got is killer. He managed to combine the old school feeling of our music with an up to date production of 2013, absolutely massive!”

The cover artwork has been handled by another well-known name in the metal biz — legend Ed Repka has worked with Megadeth, Death, Municipal Waste, and Suicidal Angels before and is quite busy during thrash metal’s second heyday. “If you notice, in the pit, it’s not people fighting, it’s zombies. Also the crowd isn’t human, they are zombies. They are the souls of people who have no human feelings anymore. They represent the ugliness and the inhumanity of the humans. Thus, turned into something else, they are easier to be conquered and manipulated.” A perfect mirror for the lyrics on DIVIDE AND CONQUER — because once more Suicidal Angels aren’t really interested in booze, boobs, and slimy aliens, but instead like to reflect on the everyday horror of our lives. “The main subject is the contemporary situation that we all are living in. There is so much power in the hands of few who have the ability to do everything, but their only fear is everyday and common people. So the only, most direct and easiest solution is to mentally disease the population, in order to fight each other, in order to misjudge reality and not being able to tell what is important and what not. So, like this, without unity, it is easier to become a slave.”

As serious as the message of the Greeks might be, as purely entertaining and neck-breaking are their new songs! Especially on stage, because the Suicidal Angels will embark on a European headliner run in January and February 2014. Part of the trek: Fueled By Fire, Lost Society, and Exarsis. Thrash ’em all!!!

-Obliterations: L.A. Punk Henchmen Ink Deal With Southern Lord In Blood

Southern Lord is proud to announce the newest addition to the label’s expansive roster in 2014: California punk henchmen, Obliterations.

Comprised of Stephen McBean on guitar, Austin Barber on bass, Sam James Velde on vocals, and Flo Schanze on drums, Obliterations unites former and current members of Black Mountain, Saviours, Bluebird, Night Horse, and Pink Mountaintops. The band came together in a mere two rehearsals in December 2012. McBean and Barber both individually relocated to Los Angeles, and continued to cross paths with friend Sam James Velde. The three had known each other for years continually intersecting over various tours. Discussing their similar music tastes reaching from the obvious hardcore and punk to obscure psych or even early ’80s British shoegaze, the three decided to jam on a whim one Saturday after talking about the idea over beers at divvy watering hole. Two rehearsals later they had four songs completed; they recorded them quickly before their other respective bands left on Winter tours, without any real intent, yet the results were inspiring. Velde was introduced to Schanze through the folks in OFF!, in where they implied “We have a good feeling about this guy.” Schanze visited Los Angeles with the intent to join a “punk band,” jamming with Sam and Stephen on separate occasions. McBean auditioned Schanze for his alter ego side project Pink Mountaintops but instead jammed Void and Black Flag covers for three hours. The next thing they all knew they had the right fit for a new band which they dubbed Obliterations.

Dealing out heavy classic punk and hardcore like every era of Black Flag, Die Kruezen, Born Against, or Poison Idea yet quick to reference Alice Cooper, Spacemen 3, The Stooges, or The Laughing Hyenas as inspiration, the blueprint isn’t the point here, it’s the results. Obliterations’ sound is abrasive and raw, driving and aggressive, yet catchy. The band has no grand scheme other than to play as much as possible, anywhere and everywhere. They’ve already created a small frenzy within their home region with chaotic live shows, having shared the stage with Trash Talk, Black Breath, Death, Mammoth Grinder, and more.

Obliterations released their debut four-song 7″ EP on Outer Battery Records (Dinosaur Jr. OFF!, Witch) in October of 2013. Hot on its heels, the band has another new four-song EP titled THE HOLE coming out on January 21 via the Volcom Entertainment Vinyl Club (St. Vitus, High On Fire, The Shrine). Following that, Obliterations has etched plans to record their debut full-length for Southern Lord in March at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 (Bl’ast!, COC, etc), preceded by a Southwest tour including multiple performances at this year’s SXSW festival.

Stay tuned for more info on the band’s upcoming tour and recording actions to be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out Obliterations’ previous mayhem via their Bandcamp, and also scope the new fully rebuilt Southern Lord label website.

-Forgotten Tomb Reveal First Trailer To New Live DVD

Continuously spreading their unique brand of rock-oriented, blackened doom metal propaganda, Forgotten Tomb have just released the first teaser for their forthcoming live DVD. DARKNESS IN STEREO: EINE SYMPHONIE DES TODES – LIVE IN GERMANY is in the final stages of editing and is on target for release in early 2014. While more excerpts along with release details will follow shortly, the first teaser is available for viewing at:

With almost 15 years of activity, six full-length albums, and a double live in-studio album, live shows all over Europe, and a worldwide underground following, Forgotten Tomb definitely deserves its cult status in the current extreme metal scene. With now-classic albums such as the milestones of SONGS TO LEAVE (2002) and SPRINGTIME DEPRESSION (2003), the band practically crafted and gave birth to a whole new subgenre, now regarded as depressive black/doom metal. Then it managed to evolve it, destroy it, and reshape it with the highly acclaimed LOVE’S BURIAL GROUND (2004), the controversial NEGATIVE MEGALOMANIA (2007), and the groundbreaking UNDER SATURN RETROGRADE (2011). In 2012, …AND DON’T DELIVER US FROM EVIL was released to critical acclaim, followed by a 12-show European tour with Enthroned (BEL) & Impiety (SIN) to conclude the successful year. Over 2013, the band kept promoting the new album with a 20-show headlining European tour with Isole (SE) & Ereb Altor (SE), as well as single shows and another European tour with Incantation (US) and Ragnarok (NO). 2014 will see the band celebrate its 15-year anniversary and release its long-awaited live DVD.

The upcoming exclusive DVD will feature over 70 minutes of professionally edited live material.

-Messenger Stream First Track From Svart Debut

Today, Messenger premiere the new track “Somniloquist” on Classic Rock magazine’s website. The track is the very first to be premiered from Messenger’s forthcoming debut album, ILLUSORY BLUES, set for international release on March 31 through Svart Records. Messenger’s “Somniloquist” can be heard exclusively here, courtesy of the world’s premiere classic rock authority:

Messenger is a musical troupe from London formed in the spring of 2012 by Khaled Lowe and Barnaby Maddick. They booked a session with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios that gave birth to their debut album, ILLUSORY BLUES: a cosmic ode to the forces of nature and the inevitable cycle of life. To cite musical influences would be futile. The musicians had made their names with bands in scenes as far apart as hardcore punk, black metal, and ambient music. Tonally, one might recall finding oneself in the same “space” occupied by other architects of sound such as Ulver, The Beatles, Swans, or Pink Floyd. But the stream of sound that emanates from the source of ILLUSORY BLUES is a heaving mass of organic richness, brimmed with intricate sounds that acknowledge the original fathers of experimentation but look forward in creating something new and unique. They dwell equally in the earthly realm of folk music and in the celestial void of progressive psychedelia, but have chanced upon a sound and an experience that sounds like no other. Rounded off by Daniel Knight and James Leach, the lineup of Messenger is now complete, but the journey has just begun.
