-Blackmore’s Night: New Album DANCER AND THE MOON Due Out In June On Frontiers Records

Blackmore’s Night is releasing their brand new album, DANCER AND THE MOON, on June 11 in North America and June 14 in Europe on Frontiers Records. DANCER AND THE MOON will be released in two editions, as a CD and a digi-pak deluxe edition with a bonus DVD that includes music videos of “Dancer And The Moon” and “The Moon Is Shining (Somewhere Over The Sea)”, plus an extensive interview with Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night.

Anticipated by the digital release of the first single “The Moon Is Shining (Somewhere Over The Sea)” on May 6, DANCER AND THE MOON is the band’s eighth original studio album, with each disc topping the European and American Billboard’s New Age charts.

Each album that Blackmore’s Night has released has been awarded Best Vocal Album or Album Of The Year for their respective charts on NPR and college radio. Blackmore’s Night performed on PBS, had specials on CNN and the History Channel. The group has songs on the soundtrack of Germany’s “The Magical Story Of The Rings: Die Nibelunger The Ring Of The Nibelungs” and the theme song “All For One” for Japan’s popular TV show, “Third Watch.” Their song “Olde Mill Inn” is featured in Jim Carrey’s movie, “Yes Man.” So many honors, placements — the list goes on and on.

Formed in 1997 by Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore, the two began working together first in Ritchie’s previous group Rainbow, when Candice co-wrote a number of songs, most notably “Ariel” and “Black Masquerade” for Rainbow’s 1996 album, STRANGER IN US ALL.

The following year, the two formed Blackmore’s Night, and after seven studio albums, two live DVD/CDs and one holiday release, the group’s latest album, DANCER AND THE MOON follows the band’s eclectic/jam/folk rock/new age/neo-Celtic/neo-Medieval/progressive rock/chamber pop/world beat styling. Take your pick from the songwriting team of Candice and Ritchie: the acoustic “Somewhere Over The Sea (The Moon Is Shining),” the rocking track “The Moon Is Shining (Somewhere Over The Sea),” which you can dance to, along with the title track “Dancer And The Moon,” the nature-inspired “The Last Leaf” and the Russian-influenced “Troika.”

Blackmore’s Night own their versions of classic rock chestnuts: Randy Newman’s “I Think It’s Going To Rain Today,” Uriah Heep’s “Lady In Black,” and “The Temple Of The King” that Ritchie and the late Ronnie James Dio collaborated on originally for their band Rainbow. The album is made complete with its inspiring instrumentals, including the waltzy “Galliard” and the Deep Purple-esque “Carry On… Jon,” that Ritchie wrote as a heartfelt tribute to his former band mate, the late Jon Lord.

DANCER AND THE MOON is a distinctive album, that is both melodic, rhythmic, and full of classic influences led by the dynamic and signature alto vocals of Candice Night and the phenomenal fret work of Ritchie Blackmore.

DANCER AND THE MOON continues to establish the band that has been growing its following steadily in the jam, pagan/wiccan scene, new age, folk and progressive worlds, as well as the classic rock community.

“So much has happened since our 2008 marriage (and the 2010 release of the duo’s AUTUMN SKY album),” says Candice, as she and Ritchie have been musical and emotional partners since 1989. In 2010 daughter Autumn Esmeralda was born, and then in 2012, their son, Rory.

Candice says, “We find that the DANCER AND THE MOON is visually and emotionally representative of how we feel about our music. We have always had a very strong pull to the mystery of the Moon. Her magic, her power, her legend… She affects us so deeply that we have named many CDs after her and she is almost always represented in our songs. The dancer gives herself completely, unabashedly and whole heartedly moved by the intensity of the music she feels within her soul.”

DANCER AND THE MOON track listing includes:
I Think It’s Going To Rain Today
The Last Leaf
Lady In Black
Minstrels In The Hall
The Temple Of The King
Dancer And The Moon
The Ashgrove
Somewhere Over The Sea (The Moon Is Shining)

-Black Star Riders’ “Bound For Glory” Lyric Video Released

Black Star Riders, the new band featuring Thin Lizzy members Ricky Warwick, Damon Johnson, Scott Gorham and Marco Mendoza together with drummer Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper / Megadeth), have announced ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE as the title of their debut album on Nuclear Blast Entertainment, which will be released in Europe on May 24, 2013.

The album was preceded by a single “Bound For Glory.” Released on Sunday March 24 2013, the single had its first public airing on Ken Bruce’s Radio 2 radio show on Thursday March 21 March 2013.

The band have just released a lyric video for the track — available to view here:

About the single, Black Star Riders front man Ricky Warwick states: “‘Bound For Glory’ — a song for the lost but never lonely, walking tall in the face of everyday adversary, everyone has a story to tell, revolution begins in the mirror!!!” Guitarist Scott Gorham adds: “When it came time to pick one of these songs as a single, we had a really hard time. There are so many really great tracks here and everyone had their favorites. But in the end, we all agreed that ‘Bound For Glory’ is the perfect choice and represents what Black Star Riders is all about.”

About the origin of the album title, Ricky goes on to say: “I was watching a documentary about World War II bombers and saw the name painted on the side of one of the aircraft. The name just resonated with me and it seemed to encapsulate the turmoil that we, as a society, are currently experiencing. The past few years have been such a wild ride and now with the release of the album, it sounded like a bad-ass album title that summed up what Black Star Riders is all about.”

The single and album were produced & mixed by the legendary Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Rush).

The album will be released as a standard CD and also as a special edition digi-pak featuring a bonus track “Right To Be Wrong” and a “Making Of” DVD.

A 24-minute compilation of behind-the-scenes video reports from the band’s studio time in Los Angeles can be viewed on YouTube at http://youtu.be/JEx9gD8RPz8 .

Confirmed festival appearances for Black Star Riders include:

June 1st Hi Rock Festival – Inzell, Germany
June 2nd Hi Rock Festival – St. Goarshausen, Germany

-Swedish Axeman Magnus Karlsson To Release His Debut Solo Project FREE FALL In June On Frontiers !

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of Magnus Karlsson’s FREE FALL debut album on June 11 in North America and June 14 in Europe.

Magnus Karlsson started his cooperation with Frontiers Records in the year 2000 when his band Last Tribe was signed by the Italian label. After two more records with this group, Magnus was asked by Serafino Perugino, Frontiers Records label President, to write and produce some of their artists. This started a successful journey of collaborations with some of the greatest singers and musicians in the Hard Rock/Metal world. The list includes the successful Allen/Lande trilogy, Starbreaker, Bob Catley, Kiske/Somerville, and the list goes on and on. He finally joined the German Heavy Metal icons Primal Fear in 2008 and with them he toured the world and recorded two successful albums that climbed high on the charts in several countries.

This time Magnus created his own album with his strongest melodic metal and hard rock set of songs ever and invited both old and new friends to sing them! The list includes Russell Allen (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob), Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear, Gamma Ray), Tony Harnell (TNT, Starbreaker), Mark Boals (Yngwie Malmsteen, The Codex), Rick Altzi (Masterplan, At Vance), Mike Andersson (Star One, Full Force), Rickard Bengtsson (Last Tribe), Herman Saming (A.C.T), David Rreadman (Pink Cream 69, Vodoo Circle). Rounding up the lineup on the album is Daniel Flores on drums.

“I’ve had the honor to collaborate with some of the greatest singers and musicians in the world,” says Magnus. “Artists who have made my life richer with their magical music. On this album I got the chance to write tailor made songs for some of my absolute favorite singers. I was thinking, what would I really like to hear from this or that guy and then I wrote the songs. It’s like if I’m missing a song with my favorite singer in my record collection, then I just make that song for him! I listen like a fan and I write like a fan well… I am a fan!”

Magnus Karlsson’s FREE FALL debut album includes the following songs:
1. Free Fall (lead vocals: Russell Allen)
2. Higher (lead vocals: Ralf Scheepers)
3. Heading Out (lead vocals: Magnus Karlsson)

-Heathen Signs With Nuclear Blast!

The ink has finally dried and Nuclear Blast Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of the Bay Area’s indomitable thrash metal band Heathen!

Founding member & guitarist Lee Altus comments on the new alliance:
“I’m really happy and couldn’t think of a better label for Heathen. I’ve known people at Nuclear Blast, some of whom have been fans of the band going as far back as the early demo days, and have been friends with them for many years. It’s amazing for me to think that throughout this band’s career, every album we recorded has been released on a different label. I can finally say that we have found home. Nuclear Blast has become a Mecca for Bay Area thrash bands and we are happy to join our friends and partners in crime Exodus, Death Angel, Testament, and Forbidden. Now it’s time to get to work on the new album!”

Lead singer David White adds:
“I want to thank all the fans for their amazing support; we do not take any of this lightly! Now we move forward with a true Metal record company that really understands what we’re all about, 2012 and beyond!!!”

Jaap Wagemaker of the A&R Department at Nuclear Blast Germany shares the following:
“It is no secret that the staff of Nuclear Blast has a soft spot for thrash metal. We all grew up here with classics such as BREAKING THE SILENCE and VICTIMS OF DECEPTION, and who doesn’t remember that legendary tour from 1991 with Sepultura, Sacred Reich, and Heathen destroying the stages night after night! We are totally stoked to announce that these legendary Bay Area Thrashers have inked a deal with us and are now label mates with Exodus, Death Angel, Testament, Forbidden, Anthrax, Sepultura, Overkill, Kreator, Destruction, and Tankard!!! Since Heathen’s reunion for Thrash Of The Titans, we had been following the band very closely over the last couple of years with first-hand information from Lee Altus — who is also swinging the axe in Exodus — and what we heard from him made us very curious! After seeing Heathen play an amazing show at Rock Hard and their release of another classic album with THE EVOLUTION OF CHAOS, it was very clear to us that the band needed to become part of the Nuclear family as well. Seeing the band play several times at last year’s Thrashfest Classics, we were finally able to make this work!! With the signing of Heathen, another thrash dream has came true!! Welcome home guys!!!”

Forged in the fertile breeding ground of the Bay Area’s thrash scene in 1984 and debuting onto the worldwide tape-trading scene in 1986 with their six-song PRAY FOR DEATH demo, Heathen went on to create the now classic BREAKING THE SILENCE in 1987 (whose opening track “Death By Hanging” quickly became a live staple) and 1991’s VICTIMS OF DECEPTION, which included the nine-and-a-half minute opus “Heathen’s Song.”

Reunited in 2001 for San Francisco’s Thrash Of The Titans benefit for Testament’s Chuck Billy and Death’s Chuck Schuldiner, Heathen reemerged in full force after a 19-year absence with stellar reviews for 2010’s THE EVOLUTION OF CHAOS and will begin recording their fourth studio album later this year.

Heathen has performed their brand of guitar-driven, fuel-injected thrash metal in Europe at numerous summer festivals, on the Thrash Fest Classics tour with co-headliners Exodus & Sepultura, and the Killfest tour with Overkill, in North America on last year’s spring tour with Destruction, and most recently at the “Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance” memorial in Oakland in February. Their live sets continually test the endurance of headbanging audiences everywhere.

Heathen 2012 is David White on vocals; Lee Altus on guitar; Kragen Lum on guitar; Jason Viebrooks on bass; and Darren Minter on drums.

Specials: Featuring Tony Martin (ex Black Sabbath) on vocals!

Italian guitar wizard Aldo Giuntini is back for the release of his brand new Giuntini PROJECT IV album on May 24, 2013.

It has been six years but Aldo is now back with the fourth chapter of his Project. “My way of writing and producing the songs needs a lot of time,” he says. “One could say I am a perfectionist, but when I have musical ideas for my guitar, I often have the other guys working with their own inputs: Also I need to have Tony Martin to work on the lyrics at the end, so this takes away a lot of time.”

Aldo comments “PROJECT IV continues the line of PROJECT II, III, musically and I’m sure that who loved my second, and third work will appreciate the IV album in the same way and more,” since the production work is “a lot improved” this time and produced by Dario Mollo (Mollo / Martin). The sound of Giuntini’s work is a combination of “the warmth and the power of Black Sabbath’s HEADLESS CROSS, TYR, Rainbow LONG LIVE ROCK & ROLL and RISING and Dio HOLY DIVER with energetic sound of Loudness, the Japanese metal heroes!” While Giuntini’s guitar playing is mainly influenced by Akira Takasaki, Vivian Campbell, Edward Van Halen, Jake E. Lee, John Norum and, of course, Malmsteen.

Handling all vocals once again on PROJECT IV is none other than Tony Martin (ex Black Sabbath), with the help of Ezio Secomandi (on drums), Dario Patti (on keyboards) and Fulvio Gaslini (on bass). “I wanted to have Tony again,” explains Aldo, “because he is my favorite voice and I think that the blend of our styles is just perfect!”

PROJECT IV promises to be like a breath of fresh air and will please the long time fans as well as the new ones, which are bound to fall in love with this great new album.

Headless Signs To Lion Music

Lion Music are pleased to announce the signing of Headless, a metal band that sees Italian guitarists Walter Cianciusi and Dario Parente teaming up with one of Europe’s premier rock vocalists in Goran Edman (Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum) and a drum legend in Scott Rockenfield (Queensryche).

The forthcoming album GROWING APART sees 10 songs shaped around the classy drumming of Scott Rockenfield and melodic vocals of Goran Edman which fuse hard rock and heavy metal with progressive elements.

GROWING APART gets its digital release through Lion Music on June 7, 2013.

Full release details to follow shortly.

Ashent Update

Following on from the recent success of INHERITANCE, the latest release from Italian progressive metal outfit Ashent, Lion Music are pleased to offer up a timely reissue of the band’s long out-of-print 2006 debut album FLAWS OF ELATION. In addition this new print comes with all-new artwork and the additional bonus of the band’s very first ultra-rare 2003 four-track demo!

FLAWS OF ELATION is a prog-power experience with some modern techno-thrash influences which are reflected in the way Ashent arrange and play guitars and drums. There are also some death metal references, in the mode the band use growling as backing vocals that have their importance in the economy of Ashent’s sound, wisely mixed with a modern prog attitude that uses avant-garde and gothic elements in order to create intense and dramatic music. The atmosphere is very dark, but the vocals of American vocalist Steve Braun are extremely melodic, supported by some beautiful orchestrations.

A video presentation with music and interview from the band can be viewed now at http://youtu.be/4j4XviuwKL0 .

The track “Mhysteric” can be heard in full now at SoundCloud via http://snd.sc/10zIZd4 .

Front man Nicholas Walsh recently checked in with the following update: “Just letting you all know that we’ve been prepping for our official debut release. We have done a photo shoot with renowned photographer Darko and have been finishing up the artwork as well as the mixes on our bonus tracks. Though we have been in the studio tracking some ‘new, new’ songs, those will only see the light of day for our upcoming live performances, and will not be a part of our debut release. They will be reserved for F.U. #2. Thanks goes out to all of our Canadian fans for all of your support since the beginning. It’s time to share your homeboys and girl with the rest of the world.”

The Famous Underground lineup is:

Nicholas Walsh – vocals/guitars
Laurie-Anne Green – bass/vocals
Rick Corvese – guitars
Darren Boyd – guitars
Desche Sparboom – drums

According to a press release, Famous Underground’s sound and music is edgy, melodic and hooky bringing a paradigm shift to the arena of rock. It’s been said, that they have created something fresh and exciting in an otherwise stagnated genre. With the conclusion that no-one has definitive comparisons, Carl Begai writer with elite hard rock/metal magazine BW&BK describes the new recording as “it’s a darker if-Metallica-were-Guns N’ Roses direction with this brand new album.”

Famous Underground’s self-titled studio release was produced by Nick Walsh, and mixed by Darius Szczepaniak (The Black Crowes, Sacrifice) at Rouge Valley Studio in Toronto. The new recording takes Walsh’s writing to a more defined state where the lyrics delve more into the complexities of the real world.

These musicians have independently garnered critical acclaim supporting such acts as Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Kid Rock, Black Sabbath, Billy Talent, Yngwie Malmsteen, April Wine, and many other international acts.

“As a special extra the crew of ‘That’s METAL’ compiled an exclusive compilation called METALLIC COMMANDMENTS – VOLUME 1 that consists of ten songs, all of them were unreleased on CD before.

“This CD (including a four-page booklet, playing time: 47 minutes) is ONLY available with issue number 17 of ‘That’s METAL’ magazine: Steel Prophet previews the song ‘Trickery Of The Scourge’ from their upcoming OMNISCENT album, Axemaster recorded an exclusive new track called ‘Bed Of Nails’ and Gothic Knights present ‘Valley Of The Kings,’ one of the last recordings with their original singer Rick ‘Warlock’ Sanchez. “For only 10 Euros (plus postage — foreign orders please inquire) you can buy -That’s METAL- issue # 17 including the METALLIC COMMANDMENTS – VOLUME 1 CD through mail orders like underground-power.de. The mag will also be available at the official merchandise booth at Keep It True Festival (19th/20th of April 2013 in Lauda-Koenigshofen).”

The re-mixing and partial re-recording of “Bed Of Nails” caused a slight delay with being able to work on the songs for the album, but things are now moving forward better than ever before. Although still a very slow process, the work on re-writing lyrics and mixing is going even better than expected. Joe Sims said: “I always had really high hopes for this album, but now with the totally killer job Geoff’s doing with his writing and performance and with the production sounding the way it is, I think this is gonna turn out to be something very special.”

-Motortrain Take To The Road

WESTVILLE, OK — Ump, guitarist and lead vocalist for Oklahoman red dirt rockers Motortrain, has been hard at work for the past few months writing and demo-ing material for the band’s sophomore effort. A road dog at heart, he’s decided that it’s time to take a break from being cooped up and has decided to test some of his new songs in front of an audience. “Our debut EP was fun, but it was rushed. Over the last year we’ve all really been diggin’ deep to build this full-length album out. We didn’t want to make an album just because it was time, we wanted to make one because we had something to say. Of course, when you’ve been stuck in the studio all winter like we have, you want to get out and stretch your legs a bit, so that’s what we’re gonna do. Get out, road test some new songs, and meet some new faces.”

The new release, a full-length, self-titled album is scheduled for release in late summer of 2013 and will feature songs such as “Briars And Barbed Wire,” a hat-tip to the band’s state line location and the rivalries that run between them, and “Whiskey Fingers” which pays tribute to lead singer Ump’s granddad, Don Schauf, who played peddle steel and fiddle up in Wichita, KS back in his day. He was in the local backing band for anyone who came through town, playing for folks like Earnest Tubb, Waylon, and Merle. Because he was stricken with Polio he never got to tour, so instead the band is taking his legacy on the road.

Motortrain dates are as follows:

April 4 – Tulsa, OK – Tankz
April 6 – Phoenix, AZ – The Blooze
April 7 – Phoenix, AZ – Steel Horse Saloon
April 8 – Prescott, AZ – The Drunken Lass
April 10 – Salt Lake City, UT – Burt’s Tiki Lounge

-Vancouver Prog Rockers Fen To Play Powder Rocket Stage At World Ski & Snowboard Fest In Whistler, BC On April 20

Vancouver prog rockers Fen have been invited to warm things up on the Powder Rocket stage at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler, BC on April 20. Kicking off their set at noon, Fen will be sharing the stage with DJ Wake Up, Versus The Nothing and Deadwax Collective.

For more info please visit http://powderrocket.com/wssf/ .

In additional news, Fen have announced they will be giving away FREE band T-shirts to make room for new merchandise as they encourage their fans to share their tunes and increase their social media presence.

The band has commented the following:

“Dear Grumps,

“We’re clearing out our merch closet and using it as a shameless excuse to pull a few more listeners out of the woodwork. We’ll give away 10 T-shirts if we reach 1,000 likes on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/fenmusic . After that, we’ll give away five shirts for every additional 500 likes until supplies are gone. The selection will be made on April 12.

“And how will we make the crucial decision of who gets the shirts?

“We’re still sorting that part out. We’re considering a kind of ritualistic monkey dance that will involve the four of us uprooting house plants then hurling our feces at the computer monitor. Whichever names get covered up on our Facebook page, we’ll contact those people and mail the shirts to their homes.

“Shamlessly yours,
“Doug, Jeff, Sam & Nando”

-Demon Lung Full-Length Debut To Be Released June 4

Candlelight Records today confirms June 4th as the North American release date for THE HUNDREDTH NAME, the full-length debut from Las Vegas-based epic doom band Demon Lung. The eight-song album was recorded with Adam Myatt and Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep) and features artwork by English illustrator Tom Bates (Vision Of Disorder, Amorphis).

THE HUNDREDTH NAME is a conceptual album as previously confirmed by drummer Jeremy Brenton. Its story line follows, “The long-begotten son of Satan, who’s been sent to earth to assemble the three parts of the devil’s bible so that we can speak the name of God in reverse and undo creation.” Songstress Shanda Fredrick adds, “We have had the concept idea for the album for a few years. We have just been waiting until we signed to a proper label to finish writing it. Working with Billy was a dream come true for us. He has been like a fifth member of the band, a mentor, and just an all-around awesome friend. He helped us craft something that we are very proud of.”

Formed in 2011, Demon Lung features guitarist Phil Burns and bassist Patrick Warren, with Fredrick and Brenton. The band has a singular EP, PAREIDOLIA (Bandcamp 2012), currently available. The recording was favorably received by international media. “Earthy-yet-horror-themed doom metal a-la Candlemass,” said Metal Hammer. “Their hazy atmosphere and unorthodox way of playing guitar in a doom metal band is an interesting approach that doom fans should immediately check out,” noted Metal Archives. “Their music is clearly from the soul,” added Ave Noctum. In their still short history, the band has performed alongside Pentagram, High On Fire, Jucifer, Witch Mountain, and Castle, among others.

1. Binding Of The Witch
2. Devil’s Wind
3. Eyes Of Zamiel
4. A Decade Twice Over A Day
5. Heathen Child
6. Hex Mark
7. Hallowed Ground
8. Incantation (The Hundredth Name)

Demon Lung has announced the following dates in April. Additionally, the band are set as a featured performer at the third installment of the Doom In June Festival (also featuring The Skull, Manilla Road, Karma To Burn, Ancestors, Las Cruces, Castle, and more). Doom In June is sponsored by Heavy Planet, Planet Fuzz, Doom Metal Alliance, and Hellride Music.

-Kalmah: Finnish Death Metal Legion To Release Seventh Studio Album Via Spinefarm Records

Teaser Track + Studio Footage Posted

Finnish death metal legion Kalmah are pleased to unleash their seventh studio offering this June. Titled SEVENTH SWAMPHONY, the follow-up to 2010’s critically lauded 12 GAUGE release, was recorded at Tico-Tico Studios in Kemi, Finland, and features eight tracks, mixed and mastered at Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Soilwork, Paradise Lost, et al).

Comments lead guitarist Antti Kokko: “This album marks a milestone in our careers. We have a new keyboard player [Veli-Matti Kananen], which has given a fresh edge to the music, and we are of course very satisfied with the new material. That is why we wanted to give the songs the best possible chance without compromise; we feel very lucky and privileged to have worked with Jens Bogren.”
