-Judas Priest Celebrates 40 Years Of Heavy Metal Dominance With EPITAPH, 23-Song Live Concert Blu-Ray/DVD

Closing Night Of “Epitaph World Tour” — The Band’s Final World Tour — Recorded At London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo In May 2012

Blazing Live Versions Of At Least One Song From Each Of Judas Priest’s 14 Classic Albums From 1974 To 2008

Blu-Ray Or Separate DVD Available Everywhere May 28, 2013, Through Legacy Recordings

Judas Priest, the heavy metal legends whose influence on generations of musicians and metalheads is incalculable, celebrate their 40th year as recording artists this year with the release of the live concert EPITAPH. A unique live career retrospective, EPITAPH will be released on Blu-ray and separate DVD on May 28th through Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. This release precedes a new studio album by Judas Priest which the band are working on now.

Judas Priest’s current lineup comprises lead singer Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis. Heavy metal historians will regard EPITAPH as the most far-reaching live concert recording in the band’s career. The set revisits the climactic closing date of the 50-week “Epitaph World Tour,” captured live at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo on May 26, 2012. Adding to the drama is the fact that this was Judas Priest’s final large-scale world tour ever. EPITAPH’s 23 tracks represent at least one song from every one of the band’s 14 studio albums, from 1974’s ROCKA ROLLA (“Never Satisfied”) to 2008’s NOSTRADAMUS (“Prophecy”).

In the special case of BRITISH STEEL, four songs are featured: “Rapid Fire,” “Metal Gods,” “Breaking The Law,” and perennial set closer, “Living After Midnight.” Others exempted from the one-song-quota are the LPs which appeared before and after BRITISH STEEL. The first of these is 1979’s HELL BENT FOR LEATHER (UK title: KILLING MACHINE) which lends the title song as well as “The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown).” The other LP is 1982’s SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE, source of “The Hellion,” “Electric Eye,” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming.”

“They have epitomized the genre with their Harley riding front man, rapid-fire guitar assaults, and spectacular stage shows,” wrote journalist Bryan Reesman in his liner notes for 2004’s leather-bound, metal-spiked METALOGY box set. “Influential, innovative, and exuberant in expression,” he wrote, “they are the true Metal Gods who have been as unwavering in their desire to expand the boundaries of their music as they have been in crossing international borders to deliver it to their disciples.”

“Unabashedly committed to their cause, and unrepentant in proclaiming themselves a true heavy metal band even when others have shied away from the term, Judas Priest have forever been defenders of the faith.”

-Dio Disciples Rock “Monsters Of Rock Cruise,” Raise Money For The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund

The lucky fans that were able to attend this year’s Monsters Of Rock Cruise (which ran from March 16-20, and set sail from Ft. Lauderdale, before taking in such gorgeous tropical locales as Nassau and CocoCay), witnessed performances by countless renowned metal acts — including Cinderella, Tesla, Saxon, Lita Ford, etc. But certainly one of the top standouts of the cruise was Dio Disciples, comprised of members Mark Boals – vocals, Craig Goldy – guitar, Scott Warren – keyboards, Simon Wright – drums, Bjorn Englen – bass, and Oni Logan – vocals.

As Wendy Dio explains, “We want to thank Larry Morand, Mike London, Harlan Hendrickson, Joe Wright, Billy Deavers and all the staff and WONDERFUL fans on the Monsters Of Rock Cruise! Dio Disciples put on an AMAZING SHOW!”

In addition to a great set by the band, the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund raised over $16,500 for cancer research, education and to help find a cure! Some of the events that raised funds for the charity on the ship were a live auction that featured a signed Tony Iommi Gibson Guitar, ESP Guitar, Schecter Guitar, Dio Memorabilia, Memorial T-Shirts and Wristbands and a Ronnie James Dio Photo Book! Rock Star Bingo was a huge success that featured members of Dio Disciples, Stryper, Y&T, Cinderella and Eddie Trunk calling Bingo Numbers! 100% of the proceeds raised from these events go directly to the charity.

Be sure to keep an eye out for when the next Monsters Of Rock Cruise will set sail — this year’s voyage was a blast!

-Death Dealer Offer Fans Killer WAR MASTER Pre-Order Pak

“Classic power metal with the brutal edge of thrash, speed, and precision.” A fitting description from guitarist Ross the Boss about his new project, Death Dealer. Comprised of Ross, as well as vocalist Sean Peck (Cage), guitarist Stu Marshall (producer and guitarist for such voices as Udo Dirkschneider and Steve Grimmett), bassist Mike Davis (Rob Halford, Lizzy Borden), and drummer Rhino (Manowar), Death Dealer will be dropping their debut full-length, WAR MASTER, some time this summer.

The cover artwork was generated by Marc Sasso who has done previous work for Dio, Halford, and Adrenaline Mob, among others. Close ups of this highly detailed piece can be viewed at http://www.marcsasso.com/ .

But for collectors that want to add a truly unique and special piece to their collection, the “Death Dealer Ultimate Warrior Pre-Order Pak” is the way to go. The pak will only be made available through the official Death Dealer website — http://www.deathdealer.co/site/store.htm — and will not be sold to distributors. For only 35 bucks, you will receive the following:

• Liner note sketch art booklet, with additional sketch art from Marc Sasso [who has previously worked with Dio and Halford], detailing the genesis of the cover art and characters. Also included are liner notes from each of the band members with insider notes and comments about the band and songs, and the cover concept sketch.

• Death Dealer sticker pak, including the band’s logo, symbol, and a hi-gloss cover art decal.

• Death Dealer patch — yellow on black for your jacket, vest, or hat.

• Guitar pick set — three full-color guitar picks of Ross the Boss, Stu Marshall, and Mike Davis.

• Personalized hand-signed band poster — made out to you in your name, signed by Ross the Boss, Rhino, Mike Davis, Stu Marshall, and Sean Peck.

• Full-color mini-poster of the cover art.

Additionally, the first 250 orders will receive a Death Dealer VIP full-color tour laminate, so the band can easily identify the early adopters — the first of the faithful — so when the band sees you at one of their shows, you shall be treated accordingly! And as Sean explains, the pre-order pak will include some true one-of-a-kind items. “The idea for the cover was to create an image that portrayed power, venom, justice, and something iconic. Marc Sasso was nice enough to include other samples of the ‘War Master’ character in various poses and some other pieces of his magic for us to enjoy, so we included them in this sketch book and liner notes package.”

Stu – “The album WAR MASTER really represents a true power and return to the days of bands being able to play live what goes on the album. Apart from being the best album I have ever been involved with, I am working with some of the most talented guys on the planet. I remember the excitement of the new metal album coming out, I think some of those days had gone over the last 10 years in the industry and now it’s time to bring it back.”

Sean – “Making this album with this incredible lineup of guys was just a freaking great time! I cannot wait for everyone to hear it. This album really has it all in my opinion, soon to be metal classic songs that are heavy, hook-laden, and packed full of lots of guitar, drum, and vocal fireworks. When you look at who is in the band, I think the metalheads out there will be thrilled to know that without any hesitation I can assure them that the album sounds as badass as they would hope and expect it to be.”

Mike – “Since I’ve been in both Halford and Dramarama for the past ten years and having put 100% into both bands, I’m extremely excited and looking forward to working with some new, very talented musicians who share the same passion for music, and WAR MASTER more than stands on its own as a vicious greeting to the metal world.”

Rhino – “I am very excited about being in this band and getting this first album out. I really feel at home with this lineup. All the guys really formed a bond as we put the band and album together. Recording and writing with Ross and the guys really flowed naturally and the results are amazing. I am really proud of everything about this record and it reminds me of the glory days of heavy metal. We all love metal and metal is or lives, and because of that, I know the diehards are going to freak out when they hear this record.”

Ross – “It’s been a long time since a CD like WAR MASTER has come around. This is a great CD but only the tip of the iceberg for Death Dealer.”

Death Dealer – WAR MASTER Track Listing:

1. Death Dealer
2. Never To Kneel
3. War Master
4. Children Of Flames
5. Liberty Or Death
6. Hammer Down
7. Devil’s Mile
8. Curse Of The Heretic
9. Heads Spikes Walls
10. Wraiths On The Wind

-dUg Pinnick Of King’s X Releases NAKED On May 7

The Leader Of The Legendary Hard Rock Trio Announces His Latest Solo Album

dUg Pinnick, front man for legendary hard rock trio King’s X, releases his latest solo album, NAKED, on May 7, 2013, through RockArmy Records with worldwide distribution through MVD.

NAKED is a deeply personal release that represents Pinnick — who wrote, played, recorded, and produced the album alone at his own dUgtone Studio — at his most primal. Each of NAKED’s 11 guitar-heavy tracks are overflowing with Pinnick’s unmistakable tone, groove, and heart-wrenching vocals, including the singles “What You Gonna Do?” — which took YouTube by storm with a self-shot video that Pinnick created and unleashed in late 2012 — and “That Great Big Thing.”

Pinnick has been a pivotal figure in heavy music for over 30 years, most notably as the vocalist and bassist for the still-active King’s X, whose influence looms large over everything from the progressive metal movement (Dream Theater, et al) to the grunge scene — with Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament famously stating that “heavy music didn’t start in Seattle, it started in Katy, Texas, with King’s X” — and who are also one of the few bands in the history of rock ‘n’ roll to mark 25-plus years of playing together with the original lineup intact, with no signs of slowing down.

Since 1998, Pinnick has released two solo albums under the moniker Poundhound and three others (including a collection of home demos featuring more than a dozen fan-favorite King’s X songs) under his own name. Additionally, Pinnick has joined forces with a who’s-who of veteran rockers — including Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament, Eric Gales, Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta, The Memorials), Bruce Fanklin (Trouble), Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger), Timothy Drury (The Eagles, Stevie Nicks), Reb Beach (Winger, Dokken), Kip Winger (Winger), Living Colour (with whom he toured Europe as temporary vocalist in 2008), Gilby Clarke (Guns N’ Roses), Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Sheehan, 24-7 Spyz, Steve Stevens (Billy Idol, Vince Neil), Tribe After Tribe, Carmine Appice, and many more — and young hotshots, including the Austin-based metal band RAZR13 (whose album was produced by RockArmy Records owner Paul Soroski and featured a guest appearance by Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera) guitarist Marzi Montazeri.

NAKED combines the vibe and the songwriting of a classic King’s X album with the raw energy of a musician who feels like he’s got something to prove and isn’t afraid to do it. Without question, NAKED is the sound of dUg Pinnick at the top of his game.

-Scanner’s First Two Albums Reissued On Divebomb

Germany could be considered the birth place for what is now known as Power Metal. Bands like Helloween, Gamma Ray and Blind Guardian first forged this path in the ’80s, but there was one band that never seemed to get their just due. Scanner’s 1988 debut concept album, HYPERTRACE, was as good as any album out at the time, if not better.

Conceptually speaking, HYPERTRACE was an intriguing tale of space travel and the bettering of humanity, while sonically it was filled to the brim with charging thunderous riffage and ear-piercing vocals (thanks to special guest backing vocalist, Ralf Scheepers — Gamma Ray, Tyran Pace, Primal Fear).

Despite the fact that it flew under the commercial radar, HYPERTRACE is still beloved by cult metal aficionados today and ripe to be discovered by legions of younger power metal fans curious of the movement’s origins.

Divebomb Records’ HYPERTRACE Record Store Day limited edition contains brand new mastering exclusive to this physical reissue as well as a new interview with band founder, Axel Julius. For the fans, by the fans.

Scanner’s 1988 debut, HYPERTRACE, placed the band on the right trajectory for success, but soon after its release, their vocalist quit. Quickly picking up S.L. Coe (ex-Angel Dust) to fill the vacated spot, the band forged onward with 1990’s TERMINAL EARTH.

Decidedly not following the previous album’s concept, Coe struck out on his own lyrically with solid tracks like “From The Dust Of Ages,” “Wonder,” “Not Alone” and “The Law.” Musically speaking, Scanner marched forward continuing to carry the torch of power metal across the globe pushing the genre into new markets. But even with these two impressive albums in their repertoire, and the flourishing power metal scene growing so rapidly, it would seem the plague of continued member departures would spell out disaster for Scanner when this era of the band came to a close in 1990.

Axel Julius did eventually resurface six years later with a new lineup and album, MENTAL RESERVATION, continuing to push the Scanner legacy forward. Thankfully, Scanner are still going strong to this very day.

TERMINAL EARTH has been out of print for nearly 20 years, and not surprisingly, fetching high dollar collector prices online. Divebomb Records’ TERMINAL EARTH Record Store Day limited edition contains brand new mastering exclusive to this physical reissue as well as a new interview with band founder, Axel Julius. For the fans, by the fans.

Cover art by: Timo Sivonen
Layout by: Janne Tillman
Piano on “Farewell”: PeO Lövholm
Female voice on “Farewell”: Helena Ă…ström

Isengard has been a band since 1988 but their idea about their music has always been the same: Melodic and Epic Power Metal.

A history that starts 25 years ago in Vikingstad, a small town outside the city Linköping, Sweden.

The story of “Sail Into Orion” starts around 2009 when Uffe Tillman starts a music project of his own. The plans were then to do a Viking story in music. When also Peter Högberg (vocals) joined Isengard in 2011, we could take the level of music even higher. Peter has a great voice and he fit Isengard’s Power Metal perfect. The recording of “Sail Into Orion” was done in four home studios. It then mixed by Magnus Stenbäcken in Riverking studios. The music of Isengard is still recognizable, still with the mysterious medieval atmosphere, but also with the speed and the easily sung choruses.

This is a group spawned from punk rock that set out on one of the most remarkable and idiosyncratic journeys ever. Their influence has been enormous, with an unlikely roll-call of musicians taking their cues from the KJ catalog, from Nirvana to most modern American metal to many DJs and dance music mavericks. With their original lineup of Jaz Coleman, Geordie, Youth and Big Paul continuing to hold firm, Killing Joke have something sulphurous and strong that few bands have come close to matching the band’s innate power. Details on a new full-length to be announced in the coming months. Stay tuned.

-Death Angel To Enter Studio This Month!

Legendary Bay Area thrash metallers Death Angel will enter AudioHammer Studios this month to begin recording the follow-up to their 2010 release, RELENTLESS RETRIBUTION. Guitarist Rob Cavestany recently checked in to give the following update:

“After nearly three years of nonstop touring for RELENTLESS RETRIBUTION, we are about to enter the studio to record our seventh album! We are playing the final show of the RELENTLESS RETRIBUTION Tour on March 31 in Holland, fly home for a few days of final pre-production rehearsals in Oakland, then begin tracking in Florida on April 8.

“RELENTLESS turned out the way we wanted so we we’re taking it to the next level with the same team. The new album will be done at AudioHammer Studios with Jason Suecof and I producing. We had a blast doing the last record there and now we know each other better and how well we work together… plus the album cover art is being done by Brent Elliot White who did RELENTLESS RETRIBUTION. Let’s just say we have a good feeling about this one.

“It was our idea all along to go directly into the studio following the end of this tour, without taking time off. We always take a break after an album’s touring cycle ends. You basically have to after spending so much time on the road, traveling and performing constantly. But not this time! This tour is the longest one we’ve ever done and that live energy is in our new songs! The glory and the heartache, it’s all there.

“That said, all the music has been written — much of it on tour buses during the past couple of years, the rest of it in the studio over the past few months. This is some of the heaviest, fastest, most powerful material we’ve ever created! There’s something really dark in it too… music is and always will be our outlet to vent and release the built up pressure that life deals. In the world today we need it more than ever!!!

“Currently the new record is slated for release in October 2013. Of course a massive tour will follow! It’s our mission to deliver, we ain’t f*ckin’ around! Thank you all for your support! Big Hug!”

Ensiferum will be touring in support of their mammoth UNSUNG HEROES full-length released in North America last Fall via Spinefarm Records US. Produced by Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, Sentenced, Apocalyptica), with special guest appearances by members of Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and legendary Finnish singer/actor Vesa-Matti Loiri, UNSUNG HEROES continues to earn praise from critics and fans domestically and abroad. “…Mount the longboats, light the torches, and prepare for battle,” warns Metal Injection, while Outburn gushes, “UNSUNG HEROES is a totally solid entry into the hallowed halls of Valhalla made by a band that knows what it’s doing,” commending its “epic scope and reliance on catchy melodies.” Stereokiller boasts, “This is nothing short of amazing, beautiful in every way possible.” Elaborates Blistering in an 8/10 rating: “Ensiferum weren’t necessarily the first band out of the epic/folk gate, but they’re probably the best… One jaunt through 2009’s thoroughly captivating FROM AFAR supports that notion, as the Finns were able to brandish a mighty sonic sword that kept the speed on 10, the jovial acoustics ‘a hustling, and above all else, managed to bring a sort of mild sophistication to a style that is usually anything but. Essentially, Ensiferum doesn’t play the stupid, folk metal game, and on UNSUNG HEROES, they manage to stay the course with sterling results.”

View the band’s video for “In My Sword I Trust” at this location. The epic clip was shot late last year in Wrocklaw, Poland and directed by Rafal Szermanowicz of Grupa#13.

Noted Ensiferum bassist Sami Hinka: “The ‘In My Sword I Trust’ shoot took place in really nice medieval castle and it went really well even though it rained pretty much the whole time. It was great to work with such a professional team and we were lucky to get such great actors to help us out. The video tells about how ordinary town people rise up to rebel against a greedy and cruel king and the upper class. There are swords, corpses and drinking; pretty much all you need for a great video! Folk on!”

-Divided Multitude To Release FEED ON YOUR MISERY

Divided Multitude
Nightmare / Fireball Records
Release: 16 April 2013

Track List:
1. Esperanto
2. Feed On Your Misery
3. What I See
4. Scars
5. The World Is Watching
6. Crimson Sunset
7. 2 4 7
8. Vicious by Heart
9. Seconds
10. Transparent
11. Reborn

“A progressive power metal war horse, Divided Multitude would be best described to the uninitiated as a hybrid of In Flames, Nevermore and, due to Eskild Kløften’s stunningly effective keyboard work, Dream Theater.”

Divided Multitude are back with a brand new album FEED ON YOUR MISERY.

Street dates are:
Release date for Europe: 19th. Of April – Fireball Records
Release date for the US: 16th. Of April – Nightmare/Fireball Records

The album is recorded in @ Home Studios, Black Lodge and Eidegården Studio; mixed and mastered by the amazing Jacob Hansen. The cover art and cover design are done by Per Spjøtvold.

Divided Multitude started up back in 1995. After releasing two demos, STRANDED and TALE OF TOMORROW, they signed with Sensory Records for the release of their debut album INNER SELF. The album was released in 1999, and the band toured Norway and Denmark with the Swedish band Hollow.

Divided Multitude’s second album, FALLING TO PIECES, was released in 2002.

This led the band into a festival tour, and the band played numerous festivals, and the tour was highlighted by the band playing ProgPower Europe.

From 2004 the band entered a period of low activity, and the members concentrated on other bands and projects. Bands such as Triosphere, TalRusha and Wattamezz featured members of Divided Multitude. In 2007 the band decided to get back together to record something again, and a new demo GUARDIAN ANGEL was recorded. This really gave the band inspiration to work harder than ever, and Divided Multitude’s third album was recorded late 2008 in Skansen Lydstudio and @home studios. For mastering the album was sent to the very skillful Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios. This really gave the band the sound they were looking for.

Divided Multitude teamed up with Silverwolf Productions, and they released the album GUARDIAN ANGEL in 2010. The cover art was done by Mattias Norèn (Evergrey, Ayreon, John Petrucci), and the cover design by Per Spjøtvold (Goat The Head, Third Kind).

The album received good reviews from all over the world, and the band toured Norway and later Europe in the aftermath of the release.

2011 was a year of writing new material, and playing festivals like Rebel Heart Rock Festival and Denmark Rock Festival.

-Paganland: Debut Album Out Now, Premiere New Track On PureGrainAudio.com

“A stirring and atmospheric album” – Zero Tolerance

“An epic debut that encompasses the essence of their homeland” – About.com [4/5 rating]

“Certainly worth of the attention of those into earlier works by Nokturnal Mortum and Drudkf” – MetalReviews.com [8.6/10 rating, “Surprise of the Month”]

“If you want to try out some so-called ‘pagan metal,’ this would be a good place to start” – Metal-Observer.com [8.5/10 rating]

“A definitely varied but also smooth and thoroughly enchanting whole” – Seaoftranquility.org

“A cracker of a debut” – Metal-Rules.com

“Pretty epic” – Metal-Disciple.com

“Bring something new to pagan metal” – Graveconcernsezine.com

“A must-listen” – Absolute Zero Media webzine

At last, Paganland release their long-brewing debut album, WIND OF FREEDOM, through Svarga Music. A celebration of pagan pride and a show of metal might, WIND OF FREEDOM carries the listener on a windswept journey like no other — verily, to a mystical paganland — and the critical response has been overwhelmingly positive. To capitalize on this critical acclaim across the world, Paganland’s new track “Chornohora” is now streaming at PureGrainAudio.com, and can be heard exclusively here:

Track listing for Paganland’s WIND OF FREEDOM:
1) Wheel Of Eternity (intro)
2) Shadows Of The Past
3) Power Of Spirit
4) Chornohora
5) Podolyanka
6) Night Forest
7) Fogs And Twilights
8) Wind Of Freedom

Paganland was founded in 1997 by Ruen and Bilozor in Lviv — one of the most beautiful Ukrainian cities, whose developed traditions incorporated the European cultural spirit of the last millennium, and every stone breathes with centuries-old history of decline and revival, wars and temporary rest. The natural mysticism hidden in the Carpathians’ greatness, the dense woods, and pure mountain sources could not but affect musicians with a pagan outlook. Therefore, Paganland’s debut demo GODS OF GOLDEN CIRCLE (1999) and the demo SHADOWS OF FORGOTTEN ANCESTORS (2004), one way or another, had been nearly related to pagan metal. The lineup changes, routine of rehearsals, and hardships of concert activity caused Paganland’s breakup in 2005, but three years later, the group re-formed and in 2011 recorded the first full-length album, WIND OF FREEDOM, having resumed their concert activity.

Paganland is a group of persons holding the same views, who respect and love their native land, their nation, their language, and who are convinced that the Ukraine is the cradle of all Slavonic people with improbably interesting history forgotten and distorted for the last ten centuries. Megaliths and petroglyphs of Kamennaya Mogila (the Stone Grave), the sanctuary-observatory of Khortyt’sia, the ancient observatory of Mavrinsky Maidan, the mysterious zone of Suppert… the runes of “Veles’ Book” and runic manuscripts from the library of Anna Yaroslavna (Queen of France and Princess of Ukraine)… secret knowledge of molfars and volkhves… how many people around the world have even heard about all of this?

Paganland’s members try to express their love of the native land, the nature in their lyrics and music, as well as draw attention of their listeners to the fact that not only money and lies rule the world in the period of the Epoch of Pisces. Human beings can — and must — stand up for the truth, and the truth of life has been established long ago by our ancestors. All meaning of Paganland’s creative activity is tribute to their land, their ancient culture, their history.

Paganland Discography

2013 – WIND OF FREEDOM (full-length CD)

-Havok Premiere New Video As They Continue Work On New Album

Denver thrashers Havok have premiered their latest video for the song “From The Cradle To The Grave” from their 2012 EP, THE POINT OF NO RETURN, via the band’s official Facebook page. The video, directed by Roy Warner, was filmed on location in Detroit during the band’s final tour of 2012 alongside Skeletonwitch. The premiere coincides with the band’s continued work on their anticipated Terry Date-produced third full-length album.

To view “From The Cradle To The Grave” click https://www.facebook.com/HavokOfficial .

Discussing the song’s lyrical inspiration, vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez says, “‘From The Cradle To The Grave’ is about America’s first serial killer, H.H. Holmes. In the late 1800s, in Chicago, Holmes built a hotel specifically with murder in mind. It included doors that opened up to brick walls, staircases that lead to nowhere, and one-way rooms that once you entered, you never came out. He was a religious man and firmly believed that since he was born, the Devil was at his side. That being said, bang your head.”

Havok hit the road this week, teaming with Goatwhore and The Casualties. The dates will feature new bassist Michael Joseph Leon. Sanchez notes, “as many people have already heard, we recently parted ways with bassist Jesse De Los Santos. It was a mutual split and we wish Jesse all the best. I’d like to thank Jesse for the four years of killing it in studio and on stage. With that being said, we’d like to introduce our new four-string monster, Mike Leon. Mike is a fantastic bassist and a veteran of the road from his years of touring with The Absence. We are very happy to have him on board.”

Leon comments, “I’m completely honored to be a part of such a well-oiled machine and to have the opportunity to play with these dudes is a dream come true! Not only is Havok one of my favorite new heavy metal bands out in the scene, but the guys in the band are a few of the best dudes I know! You can definitely look forward to us kickin’ lots of ass together this year, and for many years to come.”

Havok expect to complete all work on their new record in the coming weeks. Album information and special pre-order details will be announced shortly.

-In The Silence: Sensory Records Debut Now Confirmed For Early May Release

A FAIR DREAM GONE MAD, the debut album from Sacramento, California-based dark/progressive quartet, In The Silence — initially confirmed for official release via Sensory Records this month — has been moved back several weeks. Due to a manufacturing mishap, the final product has been delayed, and the record will now be in stores for its new street date, Tuesday, May 7.

Musically comparable to the emotional output of Katatonia, Porcupine Tree and Opeth but boasting a more progressive nature than said acts, In The Silence surges with incredibly moving riffs and otherworldly atmospheres, boasting a huge mid-tone clean vocal performance atop a thunderous display of technical metal percussion. A FAIR DREAM GONE MAD’s 45-minute lifespan possesses massive, pristine production, further magnifying the band’s skilled approach. The band self-released the album in two very limited runs, and when both pressings were immediately vanquished, they decided it was time for the album to have an official release. Sensory Records, a division of The Laser’s Edge, will give A FAIR DREAM GONE MAD the proper worldwide distribution and attention it deserves, with updated digi-pak and digital download versions coming in early May. Preview several songs from the album and more at http://inthesilence.bandcamp.com/ .

In The Silence will tour in support of A FAIR DREAM GONE MAD throughout the year, including a performance at the massive annual ProgPower USA XIV festival ( http://www.progpowerusa.com/ ) in Atlanta, Georgia, where they’ll share the stage with Circle II Circle, Rhapsody, Wolverine, Soilwork, Shadow Gallery, Wolf, Circus Maximus, Armored Saint and more.

-Surgeon: New Track From Philly-Based Epic Metal Unit Playing At Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles

Street Date And Release Show Confirmed

As the second full-length from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based metal outfit Surgeon nears its triumphant release onto public ears this Spring, today the band releases another brand new track from the opus, entitled CHEMICAL REIGN.

While Surgeon’s output may be simply classified as “progressive metal” to some, the band ventures into foreign territory for most by-the-books classical and fusion acts of the progressive metal umbrella. Perhaps simply “epic metal” is a more defining tag, as the talented crew seamlessly blends a variety of rugged post-death and post-doom elements into their craft, infectiously creating a sound all their own, but undoubtedly in the vein of notable bands including Pharaoh, Atlantean Kodex and Slough Feg.

Today, longtime international metal media outlet Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles have posted an exclusive listen to the title track to Surgeon’s new album… unleash “Chemical Reign” right here:

The band also previously released the album’s second track “Watching You,” available at their official Soundcloud page:

Additionally, Surgeon has confirmed the official release date of CHEMICAL REIGN as May 19, the same day the band will perform a local record release show for the album at Philly hotspot Johnny Brenda’s, alongside Ominous Black, Swarm of Arrows, and Skeleton Hands.

Surgeon – CHEMICAL REIGN Record Release Show:
5/19/2013 Johnny Brenda’s – Philadelphia, PA w/ Ominous Black, Swarm of Arrows, Skeleton Hands

A shockingly unknown band outside of the local scene until now, Surgeon propels an organic, flowing style of progressive metal with bold rock buildups, which also merges into the realms of epic, classic doom. Comprised of vocalist/bassist Sean Bolton, lead guitarist Lydia Giordano and drummer Ruston Grosse (ex-Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, ex-Woe, Master tour drummer), the band recorded their debut album ANGRY GUEST at Electrical Audio in Chicago by Steve Albini, self-releasing it onto the masses in 2008. Surgeon’s alloy of metals shines more than ever on the band’s ambitious second opus, CHEMICAL REIGN. Boasting nearly 50 minutes of material recorded with Kevin Antreassian at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey (Mike Portnoy, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Russell Allen of Symphony X), Antreassian was able to capture the band’s live dynamics, the band unlocking new potentials only grazed upon before during previous recording sessions. Surgeon will be self-releasing CHEMICAL REIGN on May 19, 2013 digitally and on CD.

-Toxic Holocaust Releases Lyric Video For “Agony Of The Damned”

Portland’s favorite punk/metal delinquents Toxic Holocaust recently unleashed a new lyric video for “Agony Of The Damned.” Initially featured on the band’s 2011 CONJURE AND COMMAND full-length, “Agony Of The Damned” makes an “updated” appearance on the FROM THE ASHES OF NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION compilation, set for release via Relapse Records.

Elaborates band mastermind Joel Grind: “This version of ‘Agony Of The Damned’ was recorded in September of 2010 with a drum machine a few months before we stepped into the studio to record the one that appears on CONJURE AND COMMAND. When making an album, I usually demo out the entire thing before I step into a studio. This keeps costs low and gives me time to sit with it to iron out the details. Since CONJURE AND COMMAND was the first Toxic record to feature a full band, this demo served the purpose of familiarizing everyone with the new material and is previously unreleased.”

Lay your peepers on the video at this location:

FROM THE ASHES OF NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION is a gargantuan 22-track anthology that compiles over a decade’s worth of Toxic Holocaust rarities into one raging compilation of antagonistic bliss. Amassing the band’s many contributions to various comps and vinyl-only splits with the likes of Municipal Waste, Midnight and others, alongside demo versions of treasured Toxic classics, FROM THE ASHES OF NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION is a historic romp through the history of one of today’s most revered, gritty, old-school metal bands.

FROM THE ASHES OF NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION will see release through Relapse Records on April 2 in North America, March 29 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Finland and Benelux and April 1 in the UK. Additionally, you can check out the FROM THE ASHES OF NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION teaser video and ordering info at http://bit.ly/toxicashes .

Toxic Holocaust is currently in the studio working on the as-yet-untitled follow-up to their 2011 CONJURE AND COMMAND full-length. Praised for its “nuclear reactive riffage and Repo Man punk attitude,” by Revolver and commended for its “tar-thick riffage, staggering breakdowns, and a corroded dose of self-loathing,” by The Onion’s A.V. Club, CONJURE AND COMMAND continues to reap hails from fans and critics globally. As an added bonus, the band closed the year with the honor of having the song “Bitch” rear its sonic apocalyptic menace in an episode of high-rated FX drama series “Sons Of Anarchy” (season 5; episode 11).

Toxic Holocaust mutated into existence in 1999, when Joel Grind merged his love for classic punk and metal into his ideal band. Like his influences — Bathory, Venom, English Dogs, Possessed, Broken Bones — Toxic Holocaust offers up blazing riffs, gravel-throated vocals, and a deadly fixation on the evil in man and a post-apocalyptic world wrapped in a DIY attitude.

-Conny Ochs’ BLACK HAPPY Out Now; Full LP Streaming At American Aftermath

The enigmatic German guitarist/vocalist Conny Ochs is slowly but undoubtedly infecting the masses, the man’s ability to create infectious anthems and ballads in the vein of classic singer/songwriters to be considered Americana — namely citing Woodie Guthrie, Neil Young, John Jacob Niles and Townes Van Zandt — boasting tales of woe and sadness, as well as redemption and moving on past those things in life that hold us in the rotting grooves of tribulation.

Ochs reaches a stark authenticity that draws you in, bearing all with raw emotion through his captivating vocal and melodic guitar style, delivered with finesse both in the studio and on the stage as an international voyager. What is channeled into his music, tone and lyrics are indisputable personal truths, the kind that are deeply rooted in the blackened parts of the human soul. Following his cult but potent solo 2011-release debut, RAW LOVE SONGS, followed by last year’s amazing collaborative LP and international touring with doom icon Scott “Wino” Weinrich, the second LP from Conny Ochs — the already-iconic-to-diehards opus entitled BLACK HAPPY — is out now worldwide via Exile On Mainstream, available on LP, via digital download, and in a limited wooden box CD edition.

To commemorate the release of BLACK HAPPY, today the massive Ochs fans that run badass outlet American Aftermath have published an in-depth interview with the soloist, alongside an exclusive stream of the entire album; check it out here:

Also check out a captivating full live set from an Ochs show in Warsaw, Poland in February and more right here:

“These songs are tiny gems, made polished by the strength of Ochs plaintive voice and bright chiming guitar.” – This Is Not A Scene

“I became infatuated with his style and execution and when word came down about his latest album BLACK HAPPY… Continue to get your mind bent backwards.” – American Aftermath

“Conny Ochs has created something to be treasured with his latest and greatest opus BLACK HAPPY. Going in to the very roots of music with his acoustic guitar as his primary weapon, Conny will prove someone who divides opinion but will always leave an impression as he creeps in to the wider musical platform.” – The Sleeping Shaman

-Eolian Empire KEEP OUR HEADS Compilation: 26 Portland Bands, 99 Minutes Of Bedlam

The Obelisk Streaming New Diesto Track As Comp Preview

Recently out of hibernation, Portland’s extreme/outsider label Eolian Empire is preparing to release the most ambitious and dedicated project on their diverse roster this Spring, with the newly-completed KEEP OUR HEADS label compilation.

The tiny D.I.Y. label more focused on maintaining a kinship with their regional underground music scene than attaining national acts or breaking into charts, the clan at Eolian has literally dedicated thousands of hours to arranging, collecting, compiling, mixing and preparing this massive offering of what they consider the best of their local underground, with KEEP OUR HEADS. Aligning metal, sludge, doom, prog, punk, rock, thrash, hardcore, noise and unclassifiable anti-genre acts from across the region into a herculean 99-minute soundtrack to the Portland heavy underground, KEEP OUR HEADS bears 26 exclusive tracks from stalwarts in the scene, like some twisted, many-headed beast raised on the soundtracks to River’s Edge, Lost Highway, and Repo Man, practically all the tracks recorded in Portland specifically for this release.

KEEP OUR HEADS features acts: Acre, The Ax, Big Black Cloud, Crag Dweller, Diesto, Drunk Dad, Fist Fite, Gaytheist, Gone To Croatoan, Honduran, Hot Victory, Humours, Ix, LKN, Lord Dying, Nasalrod, Norska, Order Of The Gash, Palo Verde, Prizehog, Rabbits, Redneck, Sei Hexe, Sioux, Tiny Knives, and Towers. The comp will see release digitally and on a limited-run cassette on May 1, the cassette run including both a digital download and a slick beer koozie. View the full track/band listing below, and place preorders at http://eolianempire.bigcartel.com/keep-our-heads .

As a public preview to KEEP OUR HEADS today The Obelisk has released a brand new track from riff-crushers Diesto — a precursor for the band’s upcoming LP on Eolian this Summer — alongside a peek at what is going on with this comp… Click here to jam:

Eolian has confirmed two record release shows to bust the mixtape out onto the public, with a kinky back-to-back duo of galas at Slabtown late in April. Friday, April 26 will rage with sets from Acre, Ix, Norska, Hot Victory, Big Black Cloud and Gaytheist, and the next night with Redneck, Sioux, Palo Verde, Towers, Honduran, Rabbits.

This Summer Eolian will be releasing new noise from sludge-f*ckers Drunk Dad, avant punks Big Black Cloud, hardcore savants Honduran, harsh noiser Redneck, and prog-doomsters Diesto, all featured on KEEP OUR HEADS. Stay tuned for more news on all.
