“…probably the classiest lady in metal.” – Outburn

“RAISE YOUR FIST is a solid outing for Doro Pesch and at this stage in the game, would expect nothing less from her. She still manages to savor that hard rock image and make it work for her and I hope she never stops doing this. I say raise your fist in the air babe, and never let it go.” – Blistering

“On her 12th solo album, German metal maiden Doro Pesch sounds more assured than ever, particularly as a songwriter on these 13 taut, Teutonic tunes.” – Revolver

“RAISE YOUR FIST will put a smile on all of Doro’s fans faces, many years after she first appeared Heavy Metal still has plenty to give thanks to those like Doro.” – Sea Of Tranquility

“There is no doubt in my mind that Doro is a pioneer in her field of music, one that does what she loves best, and gives her fans all. That’s what I call dedication. Do I recommend RAISE YOUR FIST, most definitely.” – Metal Titans

“RAISE YOUR FIST is a confident, well crafted, classic metal album, which offers a slab of horn-throwing anthems, with just the right amount of sentiment. Doro heads into a new decade with another load of rock and roll ammunition in her arsenal.” – The Examiner

“For a quarter century, Doro has been defying stereotypes and putting out old-school metal that never fails to recall the days when the star of heavy metal burned brightest. Time may not have been the kindest to the style of music Doro has always stood for, but it has been kind to her. The accomplishment of staying relevant in the scene for so long is not something to be taken for granted, and it’s something indeed to be proud of.” – Bloody Good Horror

-2013 To Bring Three More Releases From Jeff Lynne And ELO As Part Of ELO’s 40th Anniversary

In April Frontiers Records will release ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE And Two Reissues: ELO’s ZOOM And The Lynne Solo Album ARMCHAIR THEATRE

Just as the third quarter of 2012 brought three exciting works from Jeff Lynne — his second solo album LONG WAVE, the freshly recorded MR. BLUE SKY – THE VERY BEST OF ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA and the illuminating documentary “Mr. Blue Sky: The Story Of Jeff Lynne And ELO” — 2013 will be marked by more treats from the creative force of ELO and one of rock’s most iconic figures.

On April 19th in Europe (April 22nd in the UK) and April 23rd in North America, Frontiers Records will release three albums: ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE and two reissues, ELO’s ZOOM (re-mastered and including a brand new track) and his debut solo album ARMCHAIR THEATRE (also re-mastered, with two new brand new tracks). It’s all part of the 40th anniversary of ELO, who’ve sold 50 million-plus records worldwide. These releases will all feature new packaging and the live CD will come in a special ecolbook edition.

o ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE hasn’t been issued as an album until now. Taken from a 2001 performance for a PBS television special in Los Angeles at CBS Television City, the music was released as a DVD that year. The new hits-packed CD offers fans four tracks that weren’t on the DVD (“Secret Messages,” “Sweet Talkin’ Woman,” “Twilight,” and “Confusion”) as well as two new, unreleased studio tracks, “Out Of Luck” (recorded in 2010) and “Cold Feet” (recorded in 1992). Although the singularly accomplished British singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer has always preferred the creative experience of the recording studio, he is a compelling performer who’s always figured out ways to bring his distinctive widescreen musical universe to life onstage when he needed to.

o ELO’s ZOOM — unavailable for over 10 years — has been re-mastered and features a brand new track, “One Day” (recorded in 2004) as an added bonus, along with a live version of “Turn To Stone” from 2001’s ZOOM special on PBS. At the time of its original release in 2001, Lynne hadn’t issued an ELO album since 1986’s BALANCE OF POWER. He called upon notable friends for a little help, enlisting contributions from longtime ELO member Richard Tandy as well as good friends George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The result is an album rich in that distinct ELO sound — classic Lynne melodies and songwriting, foot-stomping rock anthems and sweet, sexy strings.

o Lynne’s first solo album, 1990’s ARMCHAIR THEATRE, is a melting pot of different styles and influences featuring unexpected collaborations with Lynne’s heroes and close friends, including Tom Petty, Richard Tandy and George Harrison. This reissue, unavailable for the last decade, includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks, “Borderline” and “Forecast” (both recorded in 1989). Interestingly, the album also features a few notable covers — “Don’t Let Go,” “Stormy Weather” and “September Song” — that demonstrated Lynne’s flair for covers two decades before the release of 2012’s acclaimed LONG WAVE. Suitably, the core of the album is Lynne himself, though he also left room for the contributions of a few friends and fellow travelers. Harrison contributed guitars and vocals on a number of tracks. Petty co-wrote “Blown Away,” a gorgeously romantic ballad. Longtime ELO band member Richard Tandy also contributed on keyboards and other instruments. ARMCHAIR THEATRE captures the musical genius of Jeff Lynne when — perhaps more than ever before — the world was his stage.

Outside of the success of ELO, Lynne has led a remarkable career producing and collaborating with many of the greatest musical artists of all time. They include a number of Lynne’s all-time heroes like Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and remarkably, even the Beatles themselves, as well as contemporaries like Tom Petty and Joe Walsh, whose new album ANALOG MAN Lynne recently produced some tracks for. Together with Harrison, Orbison, Petty and Bob Dylan, Lynne was, of course, a member of the Grammy award-winning Traveling Wilburys — a super group like no other. “I’ve been in love with music since I was probably just five years old,” says Lynne. “I was mad for music then — and I still am today.”

Track listings:

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE: Evil Woman, Showdown, Secret Messages, Livin’ Thing, Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Mr. Blue Sky, Can’t Get It Out Of My Head, Twilight, Confusion, Don’t Bring Me Down, Roll Over Beethoven, Out of Luck (Bonus), Cold Feet (Bonus)

ZOOM: Alright, Moment In Paradise, State Of Mind, Just For Love, Stranger On A Quiet Street, In My Own Time, Easy Money, It Really Doesn’t Matter, Ordinary Dream, A Long Time Gone, Melting In The Sun, All She Wanted, Lonesome Lullaby, One Day (Bonus), Turn To Stone (Live From CBS Television City) (Bonus)

ARMCHAIR THEATRE: Every Little Thing, Don’t Let Go, Lift Me Up, Nobody Home, September Song, Now You’re Gone, Don’t Say Goodbye, What Would It Take, Stormy Weather, Blown Away, Save Me Now, Borderline (Bonus), Forecast (Bonus)

-Renowned Prog Metal Guitarist Kiko Loureiro Unleashes SOUNDS OF INNOCENCE

South America has provided quite a few important historical moments in rock n’ roll over the years. Case in point, Kiss performing their final concert in make-up before unmasking in 1983; or Queen headlining the first-ever Rock in Rio Festival in 1985; or the continent spawning one of the world’s most renowned metal bands, Sepultura. And South America is also home to prog metal vets Angra, who have steadily issued challenging yet heavy albums on a regular basis since 1993.

And now comes the fourth solo album overall from that band’s leader, guitarist extraordinaire Kiko Loureiro — SOUNDS OF INNOCENCE. Running counter to today’s hard rock scene, the album, like its predecessors, is completely instrumental. And according to Loureiro, it is an incredibly personal piece of music, one that will finally establish him firmly in the US — the country which Loureiro now calls home. “All the reflective moments during the past year of my life are somehow represented in the ten songs from SOUNDS OF INNOCENCE.”

“These compositions depict my experiences in perfect form. They connect my past to what I am now — remembering the innocent times of a distant past but simultaneously being humble enough to keep innocence as an important value at present. It keeps me learning, exploring, developing and sharing. I love what I do, and this involves a unique feeling that music is something that unites us universally. Music doesn’t belong to me nor anyone. The more I create, the more innocent and free I feel to present and share my music.”

As a result, the tracks that comprise SOUNDS OF INNOCENCE run the gamut of tranquility (“Awakening Prelude,” “A Perfect Rhyme”) to over-the-top shredfests (“Conflicted,” “El Guajiro”), and some tracks that lay somewhere in between (“Ray Of Life”). And as its creator explains, there is a perfectly good reason for an album that resembles a hard rock rollercoaster ride. “SOUNDS OF INNOCENCE is my inner voice, whispering constantly, sounds and melodies, textures and harmonies.” For admirers of modern day prog metal and impressive six-string work, SOUNDS OF INNOCENCE is a must-hear.

1. Awakening Prelude
2. Gray Stone Gateway
3. Conflicted
4. Reflective
5. El Guajiro
6. Ray of Life
7. The Hymn
8. Mãe D’Água
9. Twisted Horizon
10. A Perfect Rhyme

-Hatriot: Debut From Act With Original Testament/Exodus Vocalist Out Now

Full Album Streaming At This Is Not A Scene

HEROES OF ORIGIN, the blazing debut from thrash act Hatriot — founded by original Exodus and Testament vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza, alongside his sons Cody and Nick and guitarists Kosta Varvatakis and Miguel Esparza — is out now in North America via Massacre Records! Surging with nearly forty-five minutes of old-school Bay Area thrash tradition, yet with a crushing, cutting-edge tone, the ten tracks on HEROES OF ORIGIN were produced by Juan Urteaga at Trident Studios (Testament, Heathen, Exodus, Skinlab), the cover art and booklet designed by Mark Devito (Motörhead, Laaz Rockit, Ruffians, Exodus).

Heavy metal broadcasting portal This Is Not A Scene is streaming all of HEROES OF ORIGIN in commemoration of its release. Get bulldozed here:

Having proven his metal allegiance by fronting such acts as Exodus, Legacy (Testament), Dublin Death Patrol, Tenet, AC/DZ, and more, Steve “Zetro” Souza has once again steps into the thrash metal world with Hatriot, taking his musical roots back in time to the 1980s when metal was fast, furious, and yet still melodic. Souza has a vocal style that few singers possess, boasting a powerful sting yet at the same time delivering in a way where fans can fully understand the lyrics, a trademark trait that made him one of the premier singers in the genre. Still residing in the evolutionary birthplace of thrash metal, Hatriot is out to crush and destroy everything in its path. Unsatisfied with the newer trends in the metal scene, the band produces quality old-school metal with a proven formula with the perfect chemistry and hits the stage light a freight train!

“This is the very sound — that raging slaughter of burnt offerings; that over the wall toxic overdose — that all old school ’80s thrashers have been anticipating. Every element is present: that biting and harsh tempo of the damned, incredible solos, intense, yet thought-provoking lyrics which deal with violence and corruption, Sousa’s unique Bon Scott meets a deranged Paul Bailoff’s scowl and howl, and top-notch production. 9/10” – Metal Temple

“Zetro has assembled thrash metal for the masses here. The entire album is phenomenal. It is destined to become a part of the classics he has been a part of! 5/5” – Thrash Head

“This CD from start to end is why we become music fans… a must have, if there ever was one. 10/10” – Wicked Channel

“Hatriot is already a force to be reckoned with in the Thrash scene. Their time as a band might be short, but their ability to craft energetic, fierce, and catchy music is already quite developed and remarkable. 8.5/10” – The Metal Observer

“…hits hard, and drives the rage home with relentless aggression… The full record simply extrapolates the blistering attack over 10 full tracks. 8.6/10” – Metalhoic

“…crank the f*ck out of this! From brutal start to anthemic finish, the energy just never lets up. 4/5 – CD of the month” – The Right To Rock

“…an old-school thrash free-for-all; high speed, leathery vocals, and an appreciable focus on anthem-writing.” – About.com

“…they destroy all hope you have for today’s society, and leave you begging for more audible punishment after just one spin. 8.5/10” – Apoch’s Metal Review

The band has to say: “After ups and downs, we are happy to present Francesca Zaff as our new singer today and Alex Lombardi on guitars. The new concept of the band doesn’t require some alter-ego figures to create a story; that’s why the real names of the members are going to be used for now.”

Silent Opera is: Francesca Zaff (vocals), Marco Clari (guitars), Loris Volcizzi (drums), Andrea Pin (bass), Alex Lombardi (guitars)

Silent Opera’s music is ageless symphonic metal, traversing the terrain between the rhapsodic romance of MOTHER EARTH/SILENT FORCE-era Within Temptation, the dynamic drama of Nightwish and the theatrical thrill of “Phantom Of The Opera.”

-Dark Tranquillity Parts Ways With Bassist Daniel Antonsson

[Note: This is from http://www.facebook.com/dtofficial . – Steve]

Shortly before beginning the studio sessions for the upcoming 10th studio album CONSTRUCT, the band amicably parted ways with bassist Daniel Antonsson.

The decision has been growing for a while, and the main reason is that Daniel wanted to focus on his own musical projects as well as working more in his recording studio. Being first and foremost a guitarist, he felt that the playing bass in a full-time band didn’t allow him much time for his main instrument and true passion.

With this in mind, he chose to follow his heart and step aside at this point instead of committing to another album and an intense touring cycle that would leave little room for other activities.

We thanks Daniel for his years in the band — filled with great shows and amazing memories and experiences in all corners of the world — and wish him all the best with his future musical career.

Daniel’s statement:

I want to thank the guys in Dark Tranquillity and the amazing D.T. fans around the world for the last four years of touring around the globe! It’s been awesome! Also a huge hug to the D.T. crew and all of the people working with us. I will miss you all very much! You are like family to me and I hope we will meet again soon!

But… now is the time for me to follow my heart and again focus on my guitar playing and being a recording engineer/producer in my studio Gothenburg Rock Studios. We will meet again on the road or in the studio — that’s for sure!

Horns up and Cheerz!

-Ron Asheton Tribute Concert With Iggy & The Stooges + Special Guests Coming To DVD On April 9

Live Concert tribute To Brother Ron Asheton Featuring The Stooges, Henry Rollins And More!

Recorded live at the Michigan Theater, this heartfelt tribute/celebration of Stooge guitarist Ron Asheton’s life and music featured Iggy and the Stooges, Henry Rollins, and guest guitarist Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman). Includes a string section on a few Stooges classics! All profits from the sale of the DVD go to the Ron Asheton Foundation which supports animal welfare and music.

Gary Graff of Billboard writes:

“It was a typical night of Stooges-style brutality but in an even more passionate form, as the group and its guests took a wide swing through the repertoire, clearly moved by the sense of occasion and the cacophonous spirit of the 1,700 fans who snapped up tickets for the concert in less than an hour.

“‘Some of his (Asheton’s) themes always reminded me a lot of… classical music in the 17th century,’ Pop told Billboard.com prior to the show — emcee Henry Rollins fronted the band for ‘I Got A Right.’ Pop then came on to commence a full-on Stooges performance with co-founder and drummer Scott ‘Rock Action’ Asheton, ‘Raw Power’ guitarist James Williamson, longtime saxophonist Steve Mackay and Mike Watt, the group’s bassist since 2003.

“Shirtless and manic as always, even two days before his 64th birthday, it didn’t take Pop long to turn the theater to bedlam. Following pulverizing renditions of ‘Raw Power,’ ‘Search And Destroy’ and ‘Gimme Danger,’ Pop brought dozens of fans on stage for ‘Shake Appeal,’ clearly reveling in the ecstatic anarchy of the moment. The rest of the night maintained the energy through favorites such as ‘Beyond The Law,’ ‘1970’ and ‘Fun House,’ the ‘ballad’ ‘Open Up And Bleed’ and a rendition of ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’ beefed up by an 11-piece orchestra.

“The ensemble stayed on stage as Radio Birdman’s Deniz Tek, a longtime Asheton friend, spelled Williamson for ‘T.V. Eye,’ ‘Loose,’ ‘Dirt’ and ‘Real Good Time,’ while Williamson returned for a new acoustic composition called ‘Ron’s Tune,’ in which Pop sang that ‘the music says you’ll be my friend to the end’ and ‘because you were my friend, I always think of you again.’ The night finished with everyone, including more audience members, onstage for ‘No Fun’ — whose title, of course, was the antithesis of the experience.”

BOSTON, MA — RECLAMATION, the recent full-length album from aggressive, female fronted punk / metal crossover band Mongrel will see its UK release on February 25 through THC-Music/Vanity Music Group with distribution through Code7 / Plastichead. While already available through digital retailers such as iTunes and Amazon, RECLAMATION will now be available in brick and mortar outlets throughout Great Britain. “For years we’ve had bands we’ve toured with, like Trashlight Vision or Blitzkid, telling us we need to get our music out in the UK, so now to finally have the opportunity to do just that is awesome to us,” stated guitarist Adam Savage. “This album and the prior two EPs have gotten some great reviews and feedback from a bunch of different websites and zines in the UK over the last few years and we’ve got some really cool partnerships in the works around the album there so we’re all really excited about getting RECLAMATION out over there.”

-Conny Ochs: Lead Song From Upcoming Second LP BLACK HAPPY Now Playing

German singer/songwriter Conny Ochs has been making music for over a decade now in various incarnations — with bands, unique projects and as a solo artist. While local punters endorse and worship his musical endeavors, and especially his first solo album RAW LOVE SONGS which was released on Exile On Mainstream records in March 2011, it was the collaboration with Scott “Wino” Weinrich on the 2012 album HEAVY KINGDOM that really put him on the international map.

Conny Ochs will release the follow-up to RAW LOVE SONGS with his brand new LP BLACK HAPPY. An album of earnest and melancholic songs, Ochs bears his soul with raw emotion through his captivating vocal and melodic guitar style. What is channeled into his music, tone and lyrics are indisputable personal truths, the kind that are deeply rooted in the blackened parts of the human soul. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes nasty, sometimes nice, sometimes begging, sometimes proud, sometimes cheerful, sometimes bitter, sometimes lost, sometimes found, Conny Ochs reaches a stark authenticity that draws you in, makes you part of the music and deserves to be devoted.

Today fans can hear the album opening track “Exile,” one of the most engaging songs on BLACK HAPPY, via The Earsplit Compound YouTube page:

The music on BLACK HAPPY ultimately draws upon a tradition and history of great acoustic craftsmanship created by some of America’s finest songwriters (though not restricted to the American continent). Through that inspiration especially, Ochs explores the realms of how your inner self can be sonically portrayed, once you are on your own and armed with only a guitar and your voice. Yes, this musical path is a well trodden one, but it isn’t worn out yet and Conny Ochs walks the road in his own wholehearted way. Mixed and mastered by Thommy Krawallo in Berlin in pure analog, BLACK HAPPY is set for official release via Exile On Mainstream in Germany on March 1st, throughout the rest of Europe on March 4th, and in North America on April 2nd, on LP, via digital download, and limited wooden box CD. Preorders are available here:

Conny Ochs is currently embarked on a European tour in advance of the album’s release, with many more live excursions to be confirmed in the coming weeks. View the current list of dates here:

W:O:A is usually held at the beginning of August and lasts three days, during which the festival-goers camp on several large camping grounds surrounding the actual festival area. The 70 or more bands perform across four separate stages over the course of the event.

Since 2002, the Wacken Firefighters, the local volunteer fire department band, opens the festival.

The 2009 edition set a sales record when it sold out its 70,000 tickets by December 30, 2008, just 200 days prior to the festival. However, the 2012 edition broke this record; when it sold out on November 29th, 2011, 8 months before the opening of the festival with 75,000 tickets sold. The W:O:A 2012 took place with 137 bands, performing on seven stages.

-Year Of The Goat: New Video From Swedish Occult Metal Sect Now Playing

Blazing with over fifty minutes of supreme, metallic occult rock, ANGELS’ NECROPOLIS, the infernal debut album from Year Of The Goat, has been claiming mass praise from heavy metal fans and critics alike, elevating this new act in the ranks of the scene quickly.

A brilliantly infectious album highlighting classic metal/occult rock harmonies Östergötland/Norrköping, Sweden-based quintet seemingly permeate the air around them with, rather than “perform” or “execute,” the atmospheric permeation of the eight rituals which comprise their ANGELS’ NECROPOLIS offering form the proper conditions to transport the listener to another plane of existence; a meditative state in tribute to Lucifer and his legions. The album was released on CD, LP and digitally worldwide via Ván Records, also liable for bringing The Devil’s Blood, The Ruins Of Beverast, Nagelfar and others into the cult spotlight over the last decade.

This week Year Of The Goat has set loose a brand new video for the track “Spirits Of Fire,” showcasing the incredibly hooks and melodies the band have seemingly perfected, depicted in a psychedelic ’70s Occult horror theme.

Succumb to Him with the “Spirits Of Fire” video as well as full stream of ANGELS’ NECROPOLIS here:

Year Of The Goat will hit the stage sporadically and continuously through the year, having just announced the acts first confirmed performances of 2013. Stay tuned for further updates as more shows are confirmed.

“Album Of The Month” – Metal Hammer Greece

“…the hooks on ANGELS’ NECROPOLIS are extraordinary, its Blue Oyster Cult-derived fare countered by spellbinding, haunting lyrical content. Heavy on substance but devoid of gimmickry, it’s seductive: an impeccable balance of profundity and accessibility. 4/5” – Terrorizer

“NECROPOLIS flat-out f*cking rocks. Comprising tuneful and intricate ’70s metal steeped in a devout, shadowy Satanism, the disc skirts the edges of prog and doom without losing its solid footing in masterful classic rock and the infernal art of the anthem.” – A.V. Club

“This record is a statement that good music can still be written which has its reference to the ’70s era. Year Of The Goat have claimed that malevolent structure, ANGELS’ NECROPOLIS, to perform their darkest arts and spread the worship of the dark Lord. 9/10” – Metal Temple

“…a wildly dynamic record imbued with rich, vintage tones and ritualistic songwriting and lyrics. 9/10” – Soundshock

“Year Of The Goat and their peers are laying the foundation for an extremely exciting movement and, as a shot across the bows, this is as powerful an opening gambit as there has ever been. Doubters will be silenced…” – Lurker’s Path

“…Sinners, thieves and liars, get ready for the ultimate occult magical Sabbatic Rock release of 2012… 10/10” – Metak Kaoz

-Ear One Productions 2013 Update: Releases From Nightbitch, When The Deadbolt Breaks, Voice Of Reason Confirmed

Earsplit PR is stoked to join forces with Connecticut-based indie label Ear One Productions on their upcoming Winter and Spring releases. Formed in 2012 by hardcore/music scene vets Mike Livingston and Jay Reason, the label holds major clout within the Connecticut scene and well beyond. With seven Ear One titles out to date, including discs from When Waters Rise, Bonded Through Hate, Priapism, Big Ed, Continuum, The Curse Of Her Flesh and Sinners, the label’s roster boast s only bands from their home state. 2013 will prove to be the label’s biggest year yet…

First up, traditional, occult-bent metal trio Nightbitch, influenced by wicked women, unholy passions and fire nights, will unleash their latest Danzig and Blackmoore-driven bone metal anthems with the three-song CHAINMAKER 12″. Formed by Ipsissimus guitarist Ryan Adams (ex-Catalyst, ex-Capharnaum, ex-Vestal Claret, etc.) with longtime friends, drummer/vocalist Chris Taylor (Treebeard, Garbage Barge) and bassist Mark Eles (De Omega), Nightbitch has unleashed a plethora of cult cassette and vinyl releases over the years, and will penetrate the annals of rock even deeper with CHAINMAKER and more in 2013.

Early this Spring, roaring experimental doom trio When The Deadbolt Breaks will drop their most massive musical endeavor to date, with their sprawling fourth full-length release, DRIFTING TOWARDS THE EDGE OF THE EARTH. With a nearly two-hour-long diverse, debilitating doom/sludge metamorphosis taking place, the mammoth album will be released as a 2xCD or 2xLP package. Formed in 2005 by ex-Cable guitarist/vocalist Aaron Lewis, alongside bassist/vocalist Mike Parkyn and drummer Rich Kalinowski, a constant list of extra musicians and vocalists constantly appear on WTDB releases, which have included full-lengths on FuzzTown and Spare Change Records and a split with Negative Reaction. Watch for this band on tour throughout the year.

Late Spring/early Summer will see the release of the entire discography from Ear One co-owner Jay Reason’s first band, Voice Of Reason. The band made a major impact in the New England hardcore scene and beyond in the mid-late ’90s, boasting a high-paced, positive/anthem-based delivery but still maintaining a hard edge of urgency similar to early acts like Chain Of Strength, Seven Seconds and Gorilla Biscuits, and at the time comparable to Ten Yard Fight and Ensign. The band played alongside everyone from Hatebreed and Warzone to New Found Glory and Saves The Day and recorded with legendary NYHC producer Don Fury. LOOKING BACK TO THE WAY THINGS WERE: VOICE OF REASON 1995 – 2001 is a re-mastered collection of the band’s 32-song discography, and is set to be delivered as a limited edition CD and FREE digital download.

Stay tuned as the upcoming releases from Nightbitch and When The Deadbolt Breaks, and the Voice Of Reason discography near; more info and music will be available in the coming days.

Mike Livingston, having started out as a hardcore/thrash DJ in the mid-’80s helped bring the two scenes together in the crossover movement, moved on to work with Metal Blade Records, Aardshock America Magazine and more. Musically after playing with local acts Radium, Atmosfear, Smoke The Prophet, Black Wytche and Drained Of Life, Livingston did time with NYHC act 25 Ta Life followed by several years in Connecticut hardcore brutes 100 Demons, in addition to opening his own recording studio. Jay Reason is a musician, graphic designer and digital content creator who was the lead singer and founder of hardcore punk bands Voice Of Reason and The Distance, and is the current front man for Blackened (with members of Hatebreed). Hired by Hatebreed front man Jamey Jasta, Jay was label manager/A&R of Stillborn Records from 2001 to 2007. Jay brings over 15 years of experience to the role following stints with Sony Music, Jive Records and various independent artists / label consultations, signings.

-Scotland’s Cnoc An Tursa Next Up In Candlelight’s Cult Series

Candlelight Records today announces the next album in its Cult Series. THE GIANTS OF AULD from Scotland’s Cnoc An Tursa will see North American release on March 26th. It’s the debut release from the Pagan metal band and adds to the label’s growing developmental artist series. THE GIANTS OF AULD, already released in Europe, was produced by Chris Fielding (Primordial, Electric Wizard, Napalm Death).

Chock full of intense, epic ballads that draw inspiration from old Scottish poetry, THE GIANTS OF AULD was recorded at Foel Studios in Wales. Early media has praised the record with Heathen Harvest calling it, “A potent mixture of black metal riffage and rousing, epic atmosphere.” Ave Noctum says, “Candlelight have picked a Pagan/folk metal gem… a highly melodic but driving sound that should be on the shopping list of any fan of pagan or folk metal,” while No Clean Singing adds, “put this album on your radar screen.”

Falkirk-based Cnoc An Tursa was formed in 2006 by vocalist/guitarist Alan Buchan and guitarist/keyboardist Rene Hill. With the later addition of bassist David Anderson and drummer Bryan Hamilton, the band caught the ear of Winterfylleth/Lone Vigil Recordings founder Chris Naughton after the release of a single demo recorded and released by the band in 2008. Discussing the rise of Isle bands with Decibel Magazine last November, Naughton noted, “When we spoke a few years ago, we were talking about a scene in its relative infancy; one that was starting to bring through some great bands with strong ideas. We are now a few years down the line and starting to see bands like A Forest Of Stars and Wodensthrone flourish. If anything I would say now is the time all the British bands are starting to hit their stride and bring their music to the world in a way they have never been able to before. There is a great undercurrent of bands like Cnoc An Tursa, Fyrdsman and Nine Covens coming through that represent a scene that is bearing some real fruit.”

Cnoc An Tursa has toured alongside Taake, Winterfylleth, and Wodensthrone to date. Sample the album’s fourth track “Hail Land Of My Fathers,” on Candlelight Records’ free Cult Series Winter sampler at this location:

1. The Piper O’Dundee
2. The Lion Of Scotland
3. Bannockburn
4. Hail Land Of My Fathers
5. Ettrick Forest In November
6. The Spellbound Knight
7. In Shadowland
8. Winter-A Dirge
9. Culloden Moor
10. Blar Na H-Eaglaise Brice

Other artists available now via Candlelight’s Cult Series include: Wodensthrone (CURSE), Khors (WISDOM OF CENTURIES), Kontinuum (EARTH BLOOD MAGIC), Nine Covens (ON THE DAWNING OF LIGHT), Reverence (THE ASTHETIC ASCENSION), and Zatokrev (THE BAT THE WHEEL AND A LONG ROAD TO NOWHERE).

Upcoming Candlelight Cult releases include: Nonexistence/ANTARTICA (out June 4), Voices/FROM THE HUMAN FOREST CREATE A FUGE OF IMAGINARY RAIN (out June 4), Crown/PSYCHURGY (out June 11), and Shade Empire/DIVINE CODES (out June 11).

The album can be pre-ordered at the page, too. The band had this to say about the album: “The recording of DOOMAIN must be the most relaxed album session we’ve ever done. We recorded most of the album ourselves in our own studio and took the time we wanted and needed to get it done. Dan Swanö helped us getting the rig together and he provided us with the tools to do it and from there we did it ourselves. The lead guitar sessions were done at SolnaSound Recording by Simon & Mike Wead. When it all was done it was sent to Dan Swanö and Unisound for mix and mastering. The final album is amazing and we are so thrilled to get it out to all of you.” And about the album title: “We wanted a short and effective title to this album. It’s a little game of words referring to the style of music we play ‘Doom metal’ and the actual word ‘Domain.’ We see this album as a statement of what Memory Garden stands for music wise and this album is certainly down our alley, it’s in our DOOMAIN.” Track list: “The Evangelist,” “Latent Lunacy,” “Daughters Of The Sea,” “Barren Lands,” “Violate & Create,” “Doomain,” “The King Of The Dead,” “A Diabolical Mind,” “Misfortune.” Lineup: Stefan Berglund – Vocals, Simon Johansson – Lead Guitars, Andreas Mäkelä – Guitars, Johan Fredrikson – Bass Guitar, Tom Björn – Drums. -Testament recorded its show last Friday, February 15, at The Paramount in Huntington, NY for an upcoming DVD/CD release. Before the gig singer Chuck Billy stated, “We haven’t shot a live DVD or CD since our LIVE IN LONDON release and we’ve had two killer albums since then. We thought it would be cool to put out a live DVD/CD focusing on the last three records (THE GATHERING, THE FORMATION OF DAMNATION and DARK ROOTS OF EARTH) mixed in with a good amount of classics too. Last time we recorded anything live in America was for LIVE AT THE FILLMORE on the West Coast. This time we thought we’d give the East Coast a chance to show the world how crazy and loud they can be. We’re going to be playing an extra-long 17-18 song set, which will be our lengthiest set of the tour. Let’s see all you thrashers stirring it up out there and singing along!” The new live release is expected out later this year via Nuclear Blast Records.
