-New Single “Primal Surge” From Neal Schon’s Highly-Acclaimed Solo
Album THE CALLING To Go For Adds At US Classic Rock Radio This Week

Schon Introduces New Signature PRS Guitar Models

“Primal Surge,” the second single from guitar icon Neal Schon’s latest
solo album, THE CALLING (Frontiers Records), is now set to go for adds
at Classic Rock radio this week in the US. “Primal Surge” highlights
Schon’s beautiful sweeping guitar lines and eclectic fusion sound. Of
the track, Schon commented, “This is a great song for sports channels!
I love the embodied melody in the song.”

THE CALLING has been receiving rave reviews from the international
media, with the US’ Guitar Player declaring, “It’s a thrilling, edgy,
ballsy, inspiring, and beautiful work that sounds as purposely
constructed as a symphony piece. Less-blessed composers and guitarists
can now take a moment to cry…” and Vintage Guitar avowing, “THE
CALLING, has some of his most vibrant playing to date… epic textures
and some of the most stellar guitar tones Schon has ever recorded.”
The UK’s Classic Rock proclaimed, “…a musical masterclass,” while
Guitarist stated, “stratospheric playing!” Neal Schon graces the cover
of the February issue of the US’ Goldmine, on stands now.

In other news, PRS Guitars recently announced the introduction of two
new Neal Schon signature models, NS-14 and NS-15. Schon was intimately
involved in the design of nearly every aspect of the instruments. For
more information, please click here. Schon just appeared at the NAMM
trade show in Anaheim, CA to personally introduce the new guitars.

Neal Schon’s THE CALLING is produced by, and features, Neal Schon on
all guitars and bass, and reunites Schon with former Journey band
mate, Steve Smith, who lends his virtuoso drum talents to all 12
tracks on the new album. In addition, Grammy® Award-winning special
guest Jan Hammer (Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra,) recorded Moog
synthesizer solos on two tracks — “Fifty Six (56)” and “Tumbleweeds”
and Igor Len, an accomplished classical, jazz and film composer who
has previously collaborated with Schon, is featured on acoustic piano
throughout the album. Recorded at Berkeley’s famed Fantasy Studios
during a break from Journey’s busy touring schedule, Neal completed
the album from start to finish in just four days.

Journey, one of the most popular American rock bands of all time, of
which Neal Schon is a founding member, has earned 19 Top 40 singles
and 25 gold and platinum albums, was awarded the prestigious “Legend
Of Live Award” at the 2011 Billboard Touring Awards, and received a
star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. As the only member to record on
all of Journey’s albums, Schon continues to lead the band today in its
latest incarnation. Schon will be on a world tour with Journey in

“On her 12th solo album, German metal maiden Doro Pesch sounds more
assured than ever, particularly as a songwriter on these 13 taut,
Teutonic tunes.” – Revolver

“…probably the classiest lady in metal.” – Outburn

“RAISE YOUR FIST is a solid outing for Doro Pesch and at this stage in
the game, would expect nothing less from her. She still manages to
savor that hard rock image and make it work for her and I hope she
never stops doing this. I say raise your fist in the air babe, and
never let it go.” – Blistering

“RAISE YOUR FIST will put a smile on all of Doro’s fans’ faces, many
years after she first appeared Heavy Metal still has plenty to give
thanks to those like Doro.” – Sea Of Tranquility

“There is no doubt in my mind that Doro is a pioneer in her field of
music, one that does what she loves best, and gives her fans all.
That’s what I call dedication. Do I recommend RAISE YOUR FIST, most
definitely.” – Metal Titans

“RAISE YOUR FIST is a confident, well crafted, classic metal album,
which offers a slab of horn-throwing anthems, with just the right
amount of sentiment. Doro heads into a new decade with another load of
rock and roll ammunition in her arsenal.” – The Examiner

“For a quarter century, Doro has been defying stereotypes and putting
out old-school metal that never fails to recall the days when the star
of heavy metal burned brightest. Time may not have been the kindest to
the style of music Doro has always stood for, but it has been kind to
her. The accomplishment of staying relevant in the scene for so long
is not something to be taken for granted, and it’s something indeed to
be proud of.” – Bloody Good Horror

–Y&T / Meniketti Update – February 2013

[Note: This is from the band’s newsletter. – Tim]

Our boys have just played the first shows of the year and kicked
serious butt, including another SOLD OUT show in Modesto. The band are
very much looking forward to hitting stages around the globe the rest
of the year. If you don’t see a city near you listed below or on our
web site Tour Dates page, hang tight, as there are many more shows to
be announced for this year.

The MEAN STREAK 30th anniversary shirts are here! Get yours to
celebrate the 1983 release of the MEAN STREAK album. The front of the
tee features the popular MEAN STREAK snake along with the original Y&T
logo from that release. The back of the tee features elements from the
original back cover album art. We’re releasing this shirt in two
different colors — the traditional Black, plus a limited edition
Cardinal Red shirt as a flashback to the original red MEAN STREAK
shirt we released for the 1983 tour. The Cardinal Red is a deeper
color than the traditional red shirt and we believe it complements the
MEAN STREAK artwork better than the original red did. The red shirt is
planned as a limited release online only, so if you’re attracted to
this shirt we suggest you order yours soon to ensure you get one
before we run out.

We also have a handful of BLACK TIGER shirts left. Once these popular
designs are gone, they’re gone, so get yours while we still have them.

OK, not quite the Oscars but nearly as exciting — British radio
personality, Ally Lee, interviewed Dave Meniketti on-air last

“The Roots, Rock, Riot Show” with Ally Lee and the UK’s Lionheart
Radio 107.3 FM for their dedication to doing creative interviews and
airing good music.

Bring The Kids!

We have some “all ages” shows this year, including Texas, Maryland,
Canada, Michigan, and California, with more in the works. Bring the
kids to share in the Y&T live experience.

Z Records Announce The Arrival Of Chase The Ace

It’s with great pleasure that Z Records announce the signing of Chase
The Ace. Chase The Ace originate from Israel and as far as the label
are aware they’re the first Israeli rock act to sign to a European

The band’s material totally kicks ass and reeks of such influences
ranging from ROCKS-era Aerosmith, to Motley Crue / Shotgun Messiah but
with an extra twist. The band’s self-titled debut will be released
April 2013.

After six years of singing only in Hebrew under the name Koex, the
band decided to expand their horizon and go global.

During those six years as Koex they put out five albums (including a
live album), played over 400 gigs, featured in the biggest daily
papers and news websites in Israel, along with many radio appearances.
Chase The Ace have also built a fan base who are dedicated to keeping
rock music alive. The video for the last single “Rockstar” gained
30,000 hits on YouTube within the first week. All this has been
achieved whilst staying true to their music style by being a
completely self-sustained indie rock band.

The band made the following comment regarding signing their
multi-album deal with Z:

“The whole thing came to us as a total surprise.

“We started promoting CTA about two months ago and everything is going
really quick and smooth! It’s funny because just a few weeks ago we
started talking about making a press kit and sending them to record
companies and we really wanted a company from the UK. Then, before we
even started working on it, Mark sent me an e-mail saying he wants to
work with us. At first we thought it was a cruel prank from one of our
friends but it quickly turned out to be what we were hoping for. Z
Records is a great label for us and Mark seems like an ace guy so
we’re really excited about what’s gonna come. We’re going in the
studio in a few weeks to finish our first album. We got some bitchin’
songs for you guys and we can’t wait for all the rockers in the world
to check them out!”

Chase The Ace have released their first promo video to support their
debut album. Check out the video at http://youtu.be/lMoQoX_T9dM .

The New Black To Release III: CUT LOOSE On March 15

III: CUT LOOSE will be the title of the new album by Germany’s heavy
rockers The New Black. It will be released on March 15 via AFM.

Mixing duties were handled by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Pretty Maids) who

“These guys completely floored me with their stylish mix of both
modern metal and vintage rock ‘n’ roll. This is a band that could get
big if things are done the right way!”

III: CUT LOOSE was once more recorded and produced by the band
themselves. Making-of footage from the studio can be found at
http://www.facebook.com/thenewblackofficial . The album will be
released in different configurations, among them a big fat digi-pak

keeping heaviness and catchiness fully intact. Their music has been
described in the past as such: “This is our kind of party: Black Label
Society bring the booze, Pantera spice it up, Thin Lizzy add some
taste, and Alter Bridge smooth it over before Metallica turn it black.
And you can be there, too!”

The debut album THE NEW BLACK was released in 2009, after the pre-
production was named “Demo Of The Month” in four major music magazines
in their native Germany. The sophomore effort II: BETTER IN BLACK
dropped in 2011. The New Black have played alongside acts as Volbeat,
Alter Bridge and Black Label Society, they have rocked all major

-The Highly Anticipated Second N.O.W. Album

Escape Music are excited to announce the upcoming release of the
highly anticipated second N.O.W. album, titled BOHEMIAN KINGDOM,
across Europe on March 22.

At age six, Alec Mendonça stumbled across the Boston debut album along
with some old Beatles records which changed his life forever. When he
turned 14 he started playing more professionally and got a Luthier
home made bass. At age 18 his grandmother bought him his first fender
Jazz Bass special, even recording an album in 1996 that had some air
play in Brazil but then it all came to a halt due to sickness in the
family. After a hiatus of 14 years taking care of family business,
Alec Mendonça was finally back to the world he loved, the music world.

N.O.W. was born then, and by joining forces with stellar Brazilian
keyboardist Jean Barros, all the basis of the songs were done in
Studio 430. After three months Alec put down 12 songs! Alec had to
travel to the studio so many times he lost count of that, sometimes
spending the whole day away from home for months, but it was worth it.
With the demo CD in hand, he only wanted the right vocals to do it and
although Alec can sing, his voice is more of a background voice.
Taking his chances, he decided to send the tapes to some people he
knew through the Internet and caught the attention of gifted vocalist
Philip Bardowell (ex-Peter Criss, Ace Frehley from Kiss, ex-Beach
Boys, ex-Unruly Child) who loved the songs so much that he decided to
sing the songs for Alec.

FORCE OF NATURE the debut in 2010 (ESM204) is indeed a force to be
reckoned with and has so many twists and turns you will so easily get
wrapped up in its universal appeal. The reviews were astounding with
magazines praising how good the band sounded.

After three years in the making a new lineup was required for Alec to
achieve his so sought-after sound. So Alec found what seemed to be the
main ingredient for his sophomore album; the guitar player Juno
Moraes. Juno is all heart and melody and his licks are to die for. A
new drummer was also required and this time Lars Chriss (Lion’s Share)
was called to mix and master the album. Lars gave the new album the
punch and life it needed so bad to sound like a real winner. During
the recordings of the second album Alec also lost a very close friend
who was the close we can get to an Angel at the tender age of 17 due
to Leukaemia, these are the times one wonders if there’s a God… and
so the result was a much darker and moodier album. Alec also found the
need to transmit all the rage and pain he went through after his
friend’s passing and wrote a song to exteriorize his feelings, this
song is “No One Can Feel It’s Over”… It also has to be said that the
N.O.W. sound has leanings towards Foreigner and Rainbow in places…
no bad thing.

If you liked the first album for all the right reasons and Foreigner
and Journey, then we can guarantee a Magical Mystery Tour with this
second installment, full of surprises, hooks, choruses and loads of
layers of guitars. N.O.W. are back with a second album that will just
set the pace again, this is a much stronger release than the debut and
is bound to impress both fans old and new.

Gloryhammer is the new project of Christopher Bowes, the mastermind of
the Pirate Metal sensation Alestorm. TALES FROM THE KINGDOM OF FIFE is
a concept album and tells the story of an alternate-history medieval
Scotland, a realm of dragons, wizards, magic and dark sorcery. It is
the legend of the glorious hero Angus McFife, who wages a long war
against the evil wizard Zargothrax, in order to free the people of
Dundee. Gloryhammer clads these stories in a symphonic Power Metal
armor, which will take the listener by storm and will transport them
right into the midst of an epic adventure. Pounding double bass,
enthralling riffs and bombastic orchestral parts turn songs like “The
Quest For The Hammer Of Glory” or “Angus McFife” into catchy songs
that will leave you craving for more. Gloryhammer creates the perfect
balance between in-your-face speed tracks and epic Metal hymns. A real
highlight comes in the form of vocalist Thomas Winkler (Emerald),
whose magnificent voice guides you through the adventure. The album
was recorded and produced by Lasse Lammert at the LSD Studios — the
same studio that brought you the classic Alestorm long-players! Metal
fans should make sure to enter the legendary world of Angus McFife and
Gloryhammer! Prepare for epic battles!

The band revolving around the enchanting and strong-voiced front lady
Maxi Nil did not rest on their laurels after releasing their
successful album DELTA and playing numerous concerts (e.g. Wacken Open
Air, Novarock, Masters Of Rock). Instead, the musicians focused on the
songwriting sessions for a new long-player. The mystical title ETHERA
stands for an extraordinary and diverse Symphonic Metal masterpiece
and presents the listeners with bombastic orchestral tracks as well as
touching and dreamy ballads. The band is a master in capturing these
different moods and thus creating a tightly arranged album, that
offers a magical atmosphere from the first to the last song. It is
important to point out that the vocal performance of Maxi Nil and
Mario Plank sounds so harmonic and sweeping, just like they were
singing together from the very beginnings of the band’s career. ETHERA
is a mythical and bombastic journey into the heart of Atlantis!

Serenity – WAR OF AGES

On their fourth album, the Austrian Symphonic Metal band dives deep
into long forgotten centuries and draws the listeners attention to
historical personalities like Henry VIII of England, Napoleon or
Alexander the Great. Numerous concerts have matured the band’s
songwriting skills and the interaction between the individual
musicians. This is the reason why WAR OF AGES is filled with excellent
and characteristic compositions and world-class refrains, for which
the term “catchy” would be an understatement. The mixture of
remarkable riffs, perfect timed variations from symphonic passages up
to ballads, shows Serenity’s ability to write haunting songs. The band
has reached their musical and lyrical height and in particular Georg
Neuhauser impresses with his best vocal performance so far! Friends of
Avantasia or Kamelot have to make sure to give this album spin!

Release Date:
1 March 2013

In the beginning of 2012, the Russian Pagan Metal sensation Arkona
celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special concert at the P!PLE
Concert Hall (Moscow). Supported by numerous guests, for example a 9-
piece choir, a string quartet and two background vocalists, the band
classics were turned into real monuments. Furthermore, the interplay
between typical folk instruments and the Metal foundation gives Arkona
its unique character. Once more in the center of the attention is
front lady and mastermind Masha Scream, who pushes herself and the
band to the limit. DECADE OF GLORY offers a brilliant journey through
the musical works of Arkona.

Nervosa: Recording New Album

Nervosa has announced the beginning of the recording of their new
album, which commenced on January 26. The production, recording,
mixing and mastering will be in charge of the experts Heros Trench and
Pompeu, both are in the band Korzus. The production will take place in
the traditional studio Mr. Som, in which Nervosa recorded their first
EP, 2012, last year.

Singer and bassist Fernanda Lira comments:
“We really liked the result we were able to reach with them for our EP
and there was no reason that could stop us from keeping such a high
quality work. We are really anxious to record it and, obviously, to
show our new songs to the people who keep up with our work!”

“With these new songs the band will show a more original identity,
once it has 100% of participation of Fernanda Lira on the songwriting.
The natural maturing will be evident on this CD, which we are more
than excited to record and release,” comments Prika Amaral, the band’s
guitar player.

More details will be issued soon!

-Martyr To Film Music Video For The Song “D.I.”

For further promotion of the latest release of Martyr, CIRCLE OF 8,
the band is currently recording a new music video for the opening
track of the album called “D.I.”

With an extreme cold temperature of more than minus 10 degrees Celsius
in an old factory in Groningen, the band shootings are already done.
In association with Limelight Productions and Dream Project Studios
the Dutch metal legends are working on the sequel of the script with a
story to match the lyrics of “D.I.” which is mainly about the madness
that may occur in the inner of every single human.

Striking and accidental detail in these extreme cold weather
conditions is that parts of the clip are also shot by the camera crew
of one of Holland’s most famous Dutch weather channels!

The release of the video for “D.I.” is expected mid to late February.

-Battlecross To Enter The Studio Next Month; New Album Scheduled For
Summer Release!

Detroit Thrashers Battlecross have announced that they will enter the
studio next month to record their follow-up to their 2011 Metal Blade
debut PURSUIT OF HONOR, which topped the Sirius XM Liquid Metal
charts, garnered great reviews and earned the band high profile tours,
including last summer’s Trespass America Festival Tour with Five
Finger Death Punch, Killswitch Engage and Trivium. The band will begin
recording immediately after the “Another Year, Another Tour” with In
Flames, Demon Hunter and All Shall Perish for 27 North American dates
that begins on February 2 in Ft. Lauderdale.

Battlecross will look to Mark Lewis and crew at Audiohammer Studios in
Florida to record their follow-up to 2011/2012’s breakout album,
scheduled for release in summer 2013. Lewis, responsible for the
production and/or engineering for bands such as The Black Dahlia
Murder, Trivium, Devil Driver, and Deicide said, “I can’t wait to be a
part of Battlecross’ next record. From the moment I heard the band I
knew I wanted to be a part of their development. Hearing the new music
has only solidified that feeling. Working with our good friends at
Metal Blade and bringing great new music to the masses is what it’s
all about.”

Eyal Levy will handle engineering duties on the record and Armored
Saint’s Joey Vera, who mastered the band’s cover version of Pantera’s
“F*cking Hostile,” will master.

Guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala says the band is “stoked to be working
with a prolific studio and producer at Audiohammer. We’re so focused
on making a killer follow-up album and we feel that Mark Lewis will
help bring our raw, live sound to life.”

Metal Blade President Michael Faley said, “2013 is destined to be big
year for Battlecross starting with a tour with In Flames in February,
followed by recording the new album with Mark Lewis in March and
April. We have high expectations for the band’s sophomore effort which
will be released to coincide with a massive tour this summer (stay
tuned for details). We are excited by the band’s ‘non-stop’ approach
which has landed them on significant tours and support from Jose
Mangin at Sirius XM Liquid Metal. Thanks for all the support from the
metal community.”

In addition, festival organizer Scott Lee, recently announced the
addition of Battlecross to the 15th annual New England Metal &
Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Massachusetts. This will be the band’s
first appearance and will join Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Opeth and
many more.

PURSUIT OF HONOR’s three singles — “Push Pull Destroy,” “Man Of
Stone” and “Breaking You” — spent more than 50 combined weeks on
Sirius XM Liquid Metal’s “Devil’s Dozen” list of most requested songs,
with “Push Pull Destroy” at the top spot for five weeks last spring.
The accompanying video has racked up more than 1.5 million views on
YouTube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miZLob1Hi4I ) and was the
break-out track for these high-energy thrashers.

-Witchcraft & Orchid Embarking On A Eurpean Tour!

Attention, heavy rockers, doomheads, retro aficionados, hippies or
simply lovers of timeless rock music: rejoice! Two absolute giants of
’70s riff worshipping sound will embark on a tour together in April
and May of 2013 — Witchcraft and Orchid!

Swedes Witchcraft were one of the first bands who started to recreate
the sound of old heroes like Pentagram around 2000 and who only had
one goal in mind: to revive the ’70s sound with landmark releases such
as FIREWOOD. They returned with LEGEND in 2012 and proved their status
as leaders of a whole subgenre once more!

Orchid from San Francisco are more of a recent phenomenon: the four-
piece made quite a bunch of heads turn with their debut EP THROUGH THE
DEVIL’S DOORWAY in 2009 before they firmly established themselves as
the rightful heirs to Black Sabbath’s throne with their album
CAPRICORN in 2011. Their second full-length release will be upon us

-Havok: “Point Of No Return” Video Premiere Hosted By Bloody

Havok’s latest video has premiered today via Bloody Disgusting. “Point
Of No Return” is the title track to the band’s EP, released last
Spring as a tide-me-over while the band continued their non-stop
touring. The video was directed by Roy Warner and filmed on location
in Detroit, Michigan.

Discussing the video, vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez elaborates, “The
lyrics of ‘Point Of No Return’ are highly interpretable, but the
message of the video pretty simple: The world as we know it is a
delicate place and we have never had such a high capacity to destroy
the human race as we do now. At some point, our self-made concoction
of nuclear/biological weaponry, ancient superstitious beliefs,
nationalism, corruption, ignorance, and conflicting ideologies is
going to become lethal, on a global scale. We live in a time like no
other and it’s obvious that if we don’t change our behavior, it’s only
a matter of time before the world is extinguished at the hand of
fanatics. It’s literally within everyone’s power to leave the world a
little nicer than we found it. Don’t believe everything you’re told:
Think for yourself.”

Director Roy Warner notes, “Working with the guys from Havok was
great. They had awesome ideas to start out with and build from;
wanting to showcase real life as the concept. It really illustrates
the depths of human depravity in the past, present and what we can
expect from the future if attitudes don’t change.”

To view “Point Of No Return” click here:

Havok, called “the finest thrash band in existence” by PopDose,
released their full-length debut, BURN, mid-2009. The record found an
immediate fan base and the curiosity of media around the globe. TIME
IS UP would follow in 2011. “Havok have hit their stride,” said
Decibel Magazine in review of the album. “Havok is everything that is
great about thrash,” added Terrorizer. Now with the band busy at work
recording their new full-length, anticipated for early summer release,
Havok fans can expect the Denver-based thrashers to keep an active
schedule for 2013. Sanchez says, “We’re currently wrapped up in the
studio writing our new album. We should be finished recording in March
and then, in usual Havok fashion, we’ll tour practically all year!
There are lots of exciting things coming up in 2013. Keep an eye out
for tour dates and we’ll see all of you on the road soon! Until then,
spread the word and support heavy metal.”

Havok is guitarist/vocalist Dave Sanchez, bassist Jesse de los Santos,
guitarist Reece Scruggs, and drummer Pete Webb.

-Two Side Moon Promotions Update

Label: KingRock Records
Street Date: Out Now
Genre: Heavy Metal

Requinox is a smashing heavy metal band from Norway with the most
powerful riffs you could possibly imagine. The band delivers edgy,
melodic hard rock and metal at its best. The five musicians compose
melodic metal in the style of their influences in Iron Maiden,
Metallica and Black Sabbath. Musically they focus on heavy riffs and
melodies that engage the audience in an experience which brings out
energy and feelings from the listeners. The musicians have played in
other bands before, and have participated different venues in Norway
which have taken them to many of the biggest stages in Oslo. Requinox
was established in 2010. They have received great attention for their
live shows since then and have always been wanted back from the
promoters. They have played several venues in Norway, Sweden, Austria
and Latvia.

As a help to promote the band, the vocalist founded an organization
called “Rockealliansen” (Rockalliance) in Norway. Today that is an
official organization that includes several bands that cooperate,
share experiences and the manager is booking many venues throughout
the year. Two venues have been successfully arranged at John Dee in
Oslo, with Requinox as the headline artist. The band created a three-
year plan that they wanted to follow to see how far they could take
the band. First year, compose music to make a long live set and tour
several cities. Second year, promote the band, continuing touring and
make an album. Third year, work with PR, more touring and gain
festival venues.

In 2011 the band was ready for touring and played many concerts in
Norway. Some of the places were played two or three times due to
request from the promoters. They went to Vienna and played concerts in
the city. At Amistahl the band headlined a festival for upcoming
bands. They later took the trip to Stockholm in Sweden for live gigs.
In 2012 Requinox started their tour in Latvia, and they were booked
right away to return for three more gigs later that year, including
headlining Fontaine Palace in Liepaja. Most of the year went to record
and EP and their first full-length album. They recorded both at Niss
Studios in Oslo. In the process they spent a lot of time working with
Rockalliance, helping other bands getting concerts and reach more
audience. On the 21th of December 2012 the band released the album,
THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD. They had a release party in Oslo the
same day, which sold out the venue with several guest artists
appearing on stage.

The booking for 2013 is currently in progress and venues in Norway
have been confirmed. Requinox is following their plan and work on
reaching more people, promoters and connections which will lead to
more live shows, hopefully in several countries in Europe.

Messenger – YOU CHOOSE

Label: Indie
Street Date: Out Now
Genre: Hard Rock/Heavy Metal

Artist Showcase:

Messenger is a four-piece original hard rock band with a strong
message. Their sound arises from Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and
Progressive Rock influences, from Black Sabbath and Rush to Alter
Bridge and Hinder. The original storyline lyrics are set in ethereal
and progressive style metal and then sometimes just simple, hard rock
and blues.

They started with the present lineup — founder Frank Clifton Herring
on vocals, guitar and synths, Tim “TNT” Tieff on drums, Roy Richardson
on bass and Vlad Gurin on lead guitar — in late 2008, publishing
their first CD together at the turn of the next year. Frank started
two years before that to get the right talent, partly because of the
different direction they would take and partly because of a desire for
a high level of skill and talent. The bold message and quality
musicianship Messenger puts out leaves no question that this is
something different from anything else being done today.

The new CD, YOU CHOOSE, started production the Summer of ’11 as a band
collaborative work allowing Vlad more input in the music writing than
the first. Paris Hollins, as Producer, worked with Messenger on the
YOU CHOOSE CD as he was engineer and co-producer on the first one. At
Vlad’s Studio Vovka in Springfield, VA, Vlad engineered the capture
tracking and co-produced with Frank as Paris in Studio House North in
Churchton, MD mixed, produced and mastered the songs. CD release date:
Oct. 23, 2012.

Messenger has sold hundreds of CDs and DVDs since the turn of 2009 and
has found Internet and broadcast radio airplay in America, Australia,
Cyprus and Greece. Since April ’09 http://www.MessengerMetal.com/ has
had tens of thousands of visits and their MySpace profile (
http://www.myspace.com/MessengerDC ) has had tens of thousands of
views in the four years they have been together — hits from all over
the world.

They bring a great show with good music and loud guitars. The music,
the musicianship, the melodies, the songwriting and growth are all a
part of a larger effort to expand their audience and reach many with
their songs. Working with the best professionals in the music
business; public relations, venues, promoters and hopefully a great
label soon, will allow Messenger to achieve that goal.

Band Lineup:
Lead Vocals – Frank Clifton Herring
Lead Guitar – Vlad Gurin
Bass Guitar – Roy Richardson
Drums – Tim “TNT” Tieff

The Wake Of Man – THE WAKE OF MAN EP

Label: Unsigned
Street Date: Out Now
Genre: Artistic Melodic Rock

The Wake Of Man was originally founded years ago by vocalist Darin
Watson and drummer Jordan Pipka. But before its conception, the band’s
past has always been intertwined and close for years before everyone
came together. After a few member changes, the fall of 2011 brought a
new face behind the name, along with a new sound and message.

Coincidentally enough, Darin and Jordan’s first show ever with their
first band was with Casey’s previous band, who later on, was joined by
Airik and continued to all play shows together for years. Also during
that time, Jordan and Airik lived in an apartment together, which is
where the band’s initial ideas started flowing.

Once additional members Casey Hollyfield and Airik Denton joined the
group, they immediately entered the studio with producer, Geoff
Rockwell (Forever The Sickest Kids, Artist Vs. Poet, Memphis May Fire,
These Kids Wear Crowns) in Fort Worth, Texas.

While in the studio for several months, they formulated their own
unique blend of “polyrhythm, complex meter, bitonality, and counter-
melodic material” into what they describe as artistic melodic rock.
Each instrument equally shares the spotlight on every song while still
contributing to the overall groove. Each song’s thought-provoking
lyrics, dueling guitars, intense percussive rhythms, and soaring vocal
melodies grab your attention and always keeps you guessing throughout
every listen.

THE WAKE OF MAN, a 30-minute self-titled EP features seven songs
involving both light and dark themes with a lasting hopeful concept of
perseverance, and making it through any situation, especially the most
difficult ones. Life is a journey, and these songs definitely take you
on one of your own.

Paul Leavitt (Conditions, Circa Survive, All Time Low, Versa Emerge,
Senses Fail) of Valencia Recording Studio mixed and mastered the
release, with additional mastering by Nolan Brett from Crystal Clear

Influenced by creative groups such as Circa Survive, Minus The Bear,
Thrice, and The Receiving End Of Sirens who have always strived to
stand apart amongst the other copycat and branded groups that have
over saturated today’s society.

The Wake Of Man is currently looking for support on all levels of
promotion, booking & management, while continuing to build a fan base
on a local and regional level booking shows with other driven artists
throughout Texas.

The band’s future plans for 2013 will be to record and perform as much
music as possible and will be continuing to experiment with more types
of instrumentation, incorporating even more styles into their music,
and continuing to push their limits as musicians.

Band Lineup:
Darin Watson – Vocals, Guitar, Piano
Casey Hollyfield – Guitar
Airik Denton – Bass Guitar
Jordan Pipka – Drums, Percussion

Track Listing:
1. The Course Of Perseverance
2. Policy Of Hypocrisy
3. An Act, A Phase

When They Wake – BE YOUR OWN HERO (double album)

Label: TSM/Independent
Street Date: February 2013
Genre: Rock

BE YOUR OWN HERE is the name of the new double album of When They
Wake. The album title could hardly be more fitting for the band:
Whereas at the start a simple album had been planned, the idea of a
double album emerged from the inexhaustible wealth of creativity of
the three musicians (Stephan Kaiser, Jonathan Geiger and Silvan

Passion, precision and dedication shape their artistic work. And this
is what makes the band so outstanding: their striving for quality,
professionalism and their willingness to invest a great deal of time
and effort.

In 2008, the band When They Wake was founded by singer Sven Ehmes and
guitarist Stephan Kaiser. What started as occasional jam sessions
developed into the EP THE PROGRESSION (April 2010), which is a symbol
for the musical awakening of the musicians. Once awoken, so many ideas
for new songs arose that they soon were planning another album.
Simultaneously to their musical development, they fitted out their own
studio where they produced their first EP.

In spring 2011, the band parted company with singer Sven Ehmes. In
addition to the songwriting Stephan Kaiser now takes on the lead
vocals. For their double album, they did not only record in their
studio in Zug, but also travelled to Berlin and Hamburg to record the
piano and drum parts. The band has been getting about a lot for their
gigs: Besides their shows at the Swiss festivals and Rock Oz Arènes,
they count their shows at the Backbooth and the Lyrica at the Florida
Music Festival among their highlights. This experience reinforced
their inspiration and joy for experimenting, which is expressed in the
contrasts on their new album: on the one hand melancholic, hard rock-
style, aggressive music and on the other hand melodious, emotional and
varied tunes.

The song “Satellites” — which is on their double album — stands
symbolically for their development. The expressive texts and catchy
melodies on the new album are emphasized by melancholic piano
interludes as well as cello, violin and choir recordings. Their album
shows influences from bands such as Bullet For My Valentine, Red,
Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds To Mars, Linkin Park and Story Of The
Year. BE YOUR OWN HERO is about loneliness and lack of orientation;
the album shows how this can be overcome with a great deal of courage
and will. Or just with music.

Once they have awakened, everything is possible:
Be it hard guitar riffs and rocking texts carrying away the crowd and
getting them to sing along or sentimental ballads, which make people
swing their lighters to the beat — When They Wake know how to capture
their audience. Full speed ahead has been the motto for the band, who
was elected “Best Talent” in a contest by the Swiss radio station
Radio SRF 3 in December 2012, since the release party of their debut
album BE YOUR OWN HERO (27th October 2012). Supported by various Arts
Councils of the Canton Aargau, the natives of Muri Stephan Kaiser
(vocals, guitar), Jonathan Geiger (bass, piano) and Silvan Stirnimann
(drums, piano) have claimed a place in the playlists of the big Swiss
radio stations and so they have won the hearts of the listeners. Two
things in particular make the trio stand out: their diversity and
their drive to create the unusual. Once awakened, they really go for
it — the name says it all! Thus, with their debut record they went
straight for a double album where on one disc they show their rocky
and energetic side and on the other their calm and sensitive side. But
they are far off from being purely a studio band — they have already
had some live experiences as a festival band at the freestyle
festival, as a newcomer act at the Florida Music Festival, at the Rock
Oz Arènes festival and at countless other gigs and festivals. Their
enormous musical variety makes them versatile and perfect for any
occasion. You should bookmark the name When They Wake, as you will
hear a lot more.

-Jess And The Ancient Ones Premiere New Video

Today, Jess And The Ancient Ones premiere the new video “Astral
Sabbat” at MSN Entertainment. Set for international release on
February 22nd through Svart Records, “Astral Sabbat” is the title
track of Jess And The Ancient Ones’ brand-new EP, ASTRAL SABBAT. The
video for “Astral Sabbat” can be viewed exclusively here:

Although it’s been only nine months since the release of their
brilliant and spellbinding debut album on Svart, Finland’s Jess And
The Ancient Ones have already moved on. After a split 7″ with Spain’s
Deadmask last November on Doomentia, the band is already gearing up
for something new: a three-song EP titled ASTRAL SABBAT — to be
released on CD, LP, and digital download via Svart Records — is
expected to shatter most of the preconceptions some already held
against the band. Track listing follows below.

Once again recorded with Swedish sonic wizard Tore Stjerna of
Necromorbus Studio in their hometown of Kuopio, ASTRAL SABBAT sees
Jess And The Ancient Ones pushing forward the boundaries of the sound
established on their debut full-length and forging their own path, as
personified by the rather unusual choice of cover song: “Long And
Lonesome Road,” originally written and recorded by Dutch rock outfit
Shocking Blue, mostly known for their mega-hit “Venus.”

“We wanted to give these works a space entirely their own,” reveals
guitarist Thomas Corpse, “so that listeners are able to focus on them
completely. For this purpose, we consider an EP the perfect means.
Regarding the surprising choice of cover, I had heard the song at a
very young age. And now, after travelling many roads, it returned to
me. It is a timeless song, and I hope someone discovers Shocking Blue
through us.”

With its cover art designed by Adam Burke of Nightjar Graphics, its
accompanying video (a first for the band) that will be released to the
public on February 6th, and its epic “More Than Living” that swallows
the entire B side on the vinyl version, ASTRAL SABBAT will prove that
Jess And The Ancient Ones are now way beyond all those occult, prog,
or retro-rock tags and playing a game on their own.

-220 Volt is back. Sony/BMG recently digitally reissued the band’s
first five albums — 220 VOLT, POWER GAMES (with bonus material), MIND
OVER MUSCLE, YOUNG AND WILD, and EYE TO EYE (with bonus material) —
and a revamped lineup and new music is on the way for later in 2013.
Check out http://www.facebook.com/pages/220-Volt/359383687415864 for
an ongoing series detailing the band members’ recollections of each
album in their discography.

-Anthem is back with a new website, http://www.heavymetalanthem.com/ ,
and a deal with Universal to release BURNING OATH. Check out the video
for last year’s single “Evil One” at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PjN2dVksec . The three-track single —
featuring “Evil One” plus live-in-the-studio versions of “Empty Eyes”
(from BOUND TO BREAK) and “Shadow Walk” (from NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE)
— can be ordered at
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=UICN-5001 . Drummer
Hirotsugu Homma didn’t participate fully in the album as he was
recovering from a 2008 car accident; the rest of the lineup consists
of Eizo Sakamoto on vocals, Akio Shimizu on guitar, and Naoto Shibata
on bass. Shibata was recently diagnosed with gastric cancer; the band
had to postpone a Japanese tour but he has successfully undergone
surgery and everyone hopes to return in time for the Japanese OZZfest
in May. Follow @anthem_official on Twitter for the latest updates.

-Crimson Glory news… According to a statement last week at his
Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/jeff.lords.5 , bassist Jeff
Lords has “taken a leave of absence” from the band, emphasizing he has
not quit but has “decided to simply step away and pursue other
interests for the time being.” One of the reasons Lords cited is that
although he does not disapprove of singer Todd LaTorre joining
Queensryche, Lords believes Crimson Glory “has been around long
enough, is unique enough, and has paid their dues long enough” that it
shouldn’t have to share with another band. He hopes to reconvene with
Crimson Glory at a future date.

In related news, drummer Dana Burnell is also now in A Persuasive
Reason. Check out a “behind-the-scenes look & interview” featuring
Burnell and bassist T.J. Jones talking about the band’s debut, SPIRE,

Finally, guitarist Ben Jackson’s band Avenging Benji has posted a
couple more songs online:

“Again & Again”

The former comes from GOLD & DRAGONS and “tributes Rock’n’Roll idols
who have lost their lives due to drug or alcohol related
circumstances;” the latter is a love song from Jackson to his wife.

-That Gloryhammer album TALES FROM THE KINGDOM OF FIFE, from
Alestorm’s Christopher Bowes, has to be a joke right? You saw the hype
above: “TALES FROM THE KINGDOM OF FIFE is a concept album and tells
the story of an alternate-history medieval Scotland, a realm of
dragons, wizards, magic and dark sorcery. It is the legend of the
glorious hero Angus McFife, who wages a long war against the evil
wizard Zargothrax, in order to free the people of Dundee.” I certainly
dig me some Alestorm, and I anticipate I’ll dig Gloryhammer, but this
just sounds kind of sideways.

-The Crimson Glory news with bassist Jeff Lords broke last week, and I
was totally bummed, but really not surprised. Nothing ever seems to
come easy for this band. I’m just crossing my fingers they can regroup
sooner rather than later and unleash some new music. What’s Wade Black
up to? I swear these guys are cursed…

-I asked one of our folks (who shall remain anonymous) to check out
Intöxicated, saying “They are probably Motörhead Jr., right?” His
response after listening to some samples: “They WISH they were
Motörhead Jr.” Not good. I do like the song title “Crush Your Local
Disco” though.

-I’m looking forward to Bill Leverty’s covers album DRIVE. Many of the
tracks have been available as singles for a while — “One” and “No
Time” are particularly cool — but it will be nice to have them all
collected together.

-Okay, that Requinox album THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD is funny. The
track “Jack The Ripper” followed up by “Jackie The Stripper?” Good

-New Serenity album! Yeah!

-In my current playlist: Circle II Circle – SEASONS WILL FALL (Armoury
Records), Mortillery – ORIGIN OF EXTINCTION (Napalm Records), Aeon Zen
– ENIGMA (Nightmare Records), Kingcrow – IN CRESCENDO (Sensory

Saxon just keeps on rollin’, eh? The last studio album CALL TO ARMS
was pretty good, then fans were treated to last year’s pile o’ Wacken
live stuff, and now we have the band’s 20th album, SACRIFICE. There
are several formats for this release and my promo apparently is the
“limited edition deluxe digi-book” version, in that it contains the
standard 10-track CD plus a five-track bonus CD. The album opens with
“Procession,” an ominous intro piece that sounds like credits music
for a horror or fantasy movie. The title track then kicks off with
crunchy, aggressive riffing, a fast, stomping beat, and great guitar
work complete with cool fills and a two-part solo. “Made In Belfast”
features banjo (or fiddle?) in the intro and later on in the
background for atmospheric effect; the mid-tempo rocker has more of
that crunchy guitar that’s featured throughout the album. “Warriors Of
The Road” is a pretty straightforward up-tempo “AC/DC on speed” kind
of thing. “Guardians Of The Tomb,” my personal favorite, is another
up-tempo aggressive rocker with a doubled vocal line and top-notch
choruses and riffing; for some variety it slows down a bit for the
solo section. “Stand Up And Fight” opens with a slick little guitar
solo before resuming the crunchy riffing; it has plenty of nice guitar
fills, too. “Walking The Steel” is predominantly a mid-paced chugger
that serves as an ode to 9/11 and the World Trade Center; it features
a very well-executed slow, emotional breakdown section right before
the solo. “Night Of The Wolf” is sort of a mini-epic packed into only
4:20; there’s a stellar mix of aggressive soloing and riffing in the
choruses, clean guitar in the melodic, mid-tempo verses, and some
flavorful church hymn/chant sounds in the background. “Wheels Of
Terror” — yes, Biff is still singing about wheels! — has more
crunch, impassioned vocals from Mr. Byford, and a downright awesome
sped-up solo section with sweet harmony parts. The closer “Standing In
A Queue” has more of a groovin’ Krokus vibe, with funny lyrics about
— you guessed it — waiting in line. 🙂 Andy Sneap’s production is
crystal clear; no muddy waters here. SACRIFICE is just another in a
long, long line of quality heavy metal albums from Saxon. It seems to
blow by quickly with the not-quite 40-minute running time, but that
just means there’s no filler, right? (And, the iTunes version is
buffed out with a bonus track called “Luck Of The Draw.”) The bonus
disc of “revisited classic tracks” wisely doesn’t cross paths with the
previous release of re-recordings, 2002’s HEAVY METAL THUNDER. The re-
recorded versions of “Just Let Me Rock” (from 1984’s CRUSADER) and
“Forever Free” (from 1992’s FOREVER FREE) are perhaps a bit pointless;
yes, they certainly sound better with bigger production, but to these
ears they’re just played straight. I will take “Forever Free” because
it certainly rocks out, but “Just Let Me Rock” has always struck me as
kind of dumb… The other three tracks are more worthy of your
attention. The “orchestrated version” of “Crusader” is really well
done; it has an epic vibe and is freshened up with acoustics, strings,
and — of course — better, modern production. Reaching way back to
the 1979 SAXON debut, there’s an acoustic version of “Frozen Rainbow,”
featuring a really nice solo. The highlight of the bonus disc is the
acoustic version of SOLID BALL OF ROCK’s (1991) “Requiem (We Will
Remember)” — here titled “Requiem.” This is one of those songs that
just flat-out works as either electric or acoustic. I am extremely
happy the band dug this one up, and I envision them playing it live,
with the first half unplugged before kicking in electric! Overall the
bonus disc has some inspired choices for re-workings and is worth
seeking out.
