-Ross The Boss Returns With A Vengeance, In All-New Metal Group, Death Dealer

As a founding member of both Manowar and the Dictators, guitarist Ross The Boss needs no introduction. But it’s been a while since the metal masses heard from Ross, leading some to wonder if or when he would return. The wait is now over, as his newly formed outfit, Death Dealer, is ready to rock and take the world by storm, with their debut album, WARMASTER.

“The Death Dealer sound is a mighty combination of five very talented, seasoned musicians,” explains Ross. “It’s classic power metal with the brutal edge of thrash, speed, and precision.” And when he says the band is comprised of talented and seasoned musicians, he’s not kidding, as Death Dealer also includes vocalist Sean Peck (Cage), guitarist Stu Marshall (producer and guitarist for such voices as Udo Dirkschneider and Steve Grimmett), bassist Mike Davis (Rob Halford, Lizzy Borden), and drummer Rhino (Manowar).

Formed last year via correspondence over the Internet, as soon as work commenced on the material, Ross knew he had met his metallic match. “Well, after they sent the first tune over, I was blown away, then Stu and Sean tell me they want me to join this band, called Death Dealer. I say, ‘Who else is in the band?’ They say, ‘Rhino on drums.’ I’m in! Stu goes, ‘It was either you or we would have asked K.K. Downing to be on guitar.’ Wow!”

As evidenced by such tunes as “Death Dealer,” “Never To Kneel,” and “The Devil’s Mile,” for fans of authentic, no-holds-barred, manly heavy metal, WARMASTER is an absolute godsend. And soon, Death Dealer will be converting metalheads worldwide to their cause. “Our future plans? Obviously to put Death Dealer on the worldwide metal map, and to engage large crowds and render them shocked and satisfied.”

Death Dealer is:
Sean Peck – vocals
Stu Marshall – guitar
Ross The Boss – guitar
Mike Davis – bass
Rhino – drums

-Eagle Rock Entertainment To Release Queen – LIVE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM 2DVD 25th Anniversary Edition

Released On March 12, 2013

NEW YORK, NY — On March 12, 2013, Eagle Rock Entertainment will issue the 2DVD and Digital Video release of Queen – LIVE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM. A new edition of the 25th Anniversary DVD of Queen’s legendary 1986 concerts, the 2 disc set comes with previously unreleased footage and brand new bonus features [Pre-book Order Date February 15, MSRP $17.98 for 2DVD].

Over one remarkable summer weekend, on Friday, July 11th and Saturday, July 12th 1986, Queen performed two sell-out shows at Wembley, concerts which have been widely acknowledged as two of the most incredible rock events ever staged.

Now, both the Friday and Saturday night concerts can be seen in their entirety on the Anniversary edition DVD, highlighting that no two Queen shows were ever the same. The driving rain of the Friday night show presented its own challenges but failed to dampen the mood or the music, presenting Freddie Mercury with some perfect opportunities to amuse the crowd. The sun shone on Saturday, making it a magical summer’s evening, as the band showcased everything that made Queen brilliant live.

The DVD footage has been restored for the Anniversary edition and the sound has also been re-mastered with a brand new stereo mix and 5.1 sound.

Extras on the DVD include “The Magic Tour,” a short feature containing brand new interviews with Brian May and Roger Taylor filmed in 2011. They reflect back on what was to be their final tour with their familiar intelligence, honesty and brilliant wit and humor. They explain in depth how they would approach planning their concerts and they also reflect on the poignancy of the shows which were to become among the last few performances with Freddie.

“The Wembley concerts in 1986 were the pinnacle for us,” says Brian May. “We were at our height band-wise, and Freddie had developed this phenomenal way of dealing with stadium audiences. Being back home in London playing two sell-out nights was such a big, big occasion for us. None of us realized that this would be almost the last time we played together…”

Queen’s 1986 Magic Tour had been their most successful to date. Regenerated and reinvigorated by their triumph at Live Aid almost exactly a year earlier, the band were on a 26-date tour of the UK and Europe and after a month out of the country returned home to London to play two defining concerts at the “place of champions,” Wembley Stadium.

These were to be Queen’s biggest stage, their biggest lighting rig, the biggest screen that not only Queen had performed with, but also that Wembley Stadium had ever seen. For director Gavin Taylor, filming it involved the unprecedented use of no less than 15 cameras and a helicopter to capture the aerial shots.

For Freddie it was the start of one very long party. Friends were flown in from New York and ferried from his London home to Wembley in special coaches. It was one of the proudest days of his life.

The Saturday show saw a previous wet day turn into one of the sunniest of the year. “It was a perfect day,” says director Taylor. And the Wembley roar went up as Brian, Roger, John and Freddie arrived on stage to the synthesized opening chords on “One Vision.”

For the next 110 minutes Queen played what was undoubtedly one of their most potent concert performances. The two Wembley concerts, along with a hastily added final date at Stevenage’s Knebworth Park a month later, were among Queen’s finest moments.

“Wembley Stadium was such a special place,” says Roger. “Having played it as part of Live Aid and to come back and play it again was such a blast.”

It’s perhaps no surprise that Queen’s hit musical, “We Will Rock You,” sees the show’s heroes end up at Wembley Stadium, “the place of living rock,” for the storming finale where the roots of rock are rediscovered and the rebellious bohemians find their way to recreating the music of the Mighty Queen.

Towards the end of Queen’s performance on the DVD, Freddie Mercury addresses the audience: “There’ve been some rumors we’re splitting. They’re talking through their *****,” Freddie says. “We’ll be together forever.”

“And in a way,” says Brian, “I guess we were. We might not have been a touring band much longer, but we were together as a band right until the end.”

“I don’t think anyone expected the Magic tour to be the band’s last dates; things had gone so well and we were already planning the next one,” says Gerry Stickells, Queen’s tour manager. “There was no sense of anything coming to an end.”

But as things turned out, Queen only ever played two further UK concerts, in Manchester on July 16 and that final concert at Knebworth on August 9.

But if ever a reminder was needed of why Queen earned themselves the mantle of best stadium rock group in history, then you only have to turn to this DVD to see Queen live, uncut, and at their ferocious, majestic, best.

Docker’s Guild / Special Event

Docker’s Guild will host a Special Event on February 23, 2013 for the worldwide premiere of the short film “Darwin’s Tears,” which will include a press conference, the debut live performance of the band, preceded by opening act Last40Days, a few contests with prizes, a meet & greet with the band, lots of merchandising, a few special guests and a live shooting of the entire evening.

All takes place on 23 February 2013 at Audiodrome Live Club, Strada Mongina, 9, 10024 Moncalieri. Italy:

Full details on the event can be found at: http://www.facebook.com/events/447667928624073/

The Docker’s Guild live lineup is confirmed as Douglas R. Docker on keyboards and vocals, lead vocalists Andrea Rampa (Rustfield) and Anna Petracca (Last40Days), guitarist Davide Ronfetto (Rustfield), bassist Anna Portalupi (Hardline) and Salvatore Amato (Rustfield) on drums.

Teaser video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rag9kHYl87U

For band mastermind Douglas R. Docker taking the band out of its until now studio environment and into the live arena is the next step on what is proving to be an exciting journey. Docker comments:

“The Docker’s Guild project was conceived from the beginning as a multimedia story to be told in various formats, with the albums and music at its center and with videos, games, comics, novels and the like expanding the world I have created.

“The release of short film ‘Darwin’s Tears,’ shot and produced by Silos Production (the same team that produced ‘011’ by Therion), is the first major step in that direction. They have done a spectacular job, with the film being shot in black and white, in the style of 1920’s German Expressionism and movie serials of that time. It will be about 11 minutes long and I have to say I haven’t seen anything quite like it anywhere else.

“There was never any intention of playing live or touring at first, but the release of the short film required a special event to mark the occasion, and I thought that combining this with a long overdue album release party would be a good idea. At that point, there was no choice but to go live, something I am very excited about. Writing, developing and recording the first album was a very exciting albeit solitary journey, and it is a very welcome change to be able to interact with other musicians who also happen to be very good friends of mine. The new lineup is very skilled and motivated and I can’t wait for the show. If that goes well, I am already toying with the idea of bringing the project on the road for an Italian tour first, perhaps followed by something more international a little later. Keep your fingers crossed!”

Not only does 23 February 2013 mark the band’s first live appearance but also the premiere of the highly anticipated short film for the track “Darwin’s Tears” taken from the band’s debut album THE MYSTIC TECHNOCRACY – SEASON 1 (out now). The worldwide premiere of the “Darwin’s Tears” video will commence at 15:00 hrs. with a press conference and projection of the “Darwin’s Tears” short film following later in the evening at 22:00 hrs. with the band’s live performance with special guests Last40Days along with a long awaited album release party.

The “Darwin’s Tears” short film will then be made available worldwide via YouTube on the following day, 24 February 2013.

-Hatriot: New Thrash Act From Original Testament/Exodus Vocalist Rises

Massacre Records is set to unleash the debut album from American thrash outfit Hatriot, celebrating the comeback of the infamous original vocalist for Bay Area legends Exodus, Testament and others, Steve “Zetro” Souza!

Having recently signed a deal with Germany’s Massacre Records, the band are now prepared to drop their debut, HEROES OF ORIGIN, the album set for North American release on February 12th, and preceded by the European release on January 25th. Raging with old-school Bay Area thrash metal in the best Testament/Exodus/Forbidden tradition, the album’s ten anthems were produced by Juan Urteaga at Trident Studios (Testament, Heathen, Exodus, Skinlab). The cover art and booklet was designed by Mark Devito (Motörhead, Laaz Rockit, Ruffians, Exodus).

Check out Hatriot’s official video for “Blood Stained Wings” from HEROES OF ORIGIN and more:

Having proven his metal allegiance by fronting such acts as Exodus, Legacy (Testament), Dublin Death Patrol, Tenet, AC/DZ, and more, Steve Souza has once again stepped into the thrash metal world with Hatriot, taking his musical roots back in time to the 1980s when metal was fast, furious, and yet still melodic. Souza has a vocal style that few singers possess, boasting a powerful sting yet at the same time delivering in a way where fans can fully understand the lyrics, a trademark trait that made him one of the premier singers in the thrash metal world.

Still residing in the evolutionary birthplace of thrash metal, Steve Souza brings Hatriot to life backed by his two sons — bassist Cody Souza and drummer Nick Souza — along with young guitar wizard, Kosta “V” and second guitarist Miguel Esparza, the quintet out to crush and destroy everything in its path. Unsatisfied with the newer trends in the metal scene, the band produces quality old-school metal with a proven formula with the perfect chemistry and hits the stage light a freight train!

Hatriot has earned respect having supported Testament and Forbidden on stage with sporadic performances, and in 2013 will take to the road in a much more rigorous fashion in support of HEROES OF ORIGIN!

1. Suicide Run
2. Weapons Of Class Destruction
3. Murder American Style
4. Blood Stained Wings
5. The Violent Time Of My Dark Passenger
6. Globicidal

9. Shadows Of The Buried
10. Heroes Of Origin

Hatriot Lineup:
Steve “Zetro” Souza – vocals
Kosta “V” – guitars
Miguel Esparza – guitars
Cody Souza – bass
Nick Souza – drums

-Metal Blade Records Inks Worldwide Deal With Slough Feg!

Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of Slough Feg, whose style is an eclectic mix of Celtic Folk and Traditional Metal peppered with buckets of energy and lyrical depth. On February 5 the label will also be releasing three of the band’s early releases (North America only!) that, until now, were only available as imports. TWILIGHT OF THE IDOLS (1999), DOWN AMONG THE DEADMEN (2000), and TRAVELLER (2003) will be packaged as a 3CD box set will also be made available on their own, digitally, via iTunes, Amazon, Google+, or your favorite digital retailer. Check out samples from these albums and preorder your copy at http://www.metalblade.com/thelordweirdsloughfeg/ .

Guitarist/vocalist Mike Scalzi comments: “We are very excited to announce that we have signed a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records for a new album, which we are beginning to record this month. The new material will be standard Feg-Fare — that is, totally non-standard!! Of course there will be some galloping, rollicking, bouncing buccaneer riffs unearthed from the Voi-Vaudevillian vaults, and a touch of good ol’ misery and madness (not to mention more peevishly punctuated puns) in the lyrics. But this time there will also be a cavalcade of cacophonous crooning to add to the caterwaul, as well as the lavishly-landscaped luster of some majestic Morricone-esque riffs at which to marvel — perhaps a slight proto-American-West feel. So as usual, you’ll just have to wait to hear it yourself!!!

“We are also equally excited (if not more excited!!) to announce that Metal Blade is re-releasing our second, third and fourth albums in the form of a bad-ass box set!! It’s about time these albums were made available in the USA!!! They’ve always been imports in the past, but now you can get them all at once!!”

Also available as part of a preorder is a The Lord Weird Slough Feg logo shirt that fans can pick up bundled with the 3CD for a special low price.

About the band:
Slough Feg — originally The Lord Weird Slough Feg which was shortened to Slough Feg after the release of their 2005 album ATAVISM — whose name is derived from a character in ancient Irish mythology, originates from Central Pennsylvania and relocated to San Francisco in 1990 in hopes of resurrecting the ailing “true metal” scene in the United States. The band quickly gained a reputation as “The band San Francisco loved to hate” by taking a stand against the trends and incorporating stage savagery with strong visual imagery.

The band produced three demos in the early to mid-nineties, which were followed up by a self-produced, self-titled debut CD released in 1996.

Scoring points for originality in the European underground, they aroused the interest of Dragonheart Records in 1998 and TWILIGHT OF THE IDOLS was released in 1999 by the label. This was followed by the 2000 release of DOWN AMONG THE DEADMEN and Sci-Fi epic, TRAVELLER, in 2003. In 2005 the band moved to the Italian label Cruz Del Sur and shortened their name to simply, Slough Feg with the release of ATAVISM. 2007 brought the dawn of HARDWORLDER, and a slight change of direction to a ’70’s NWOBHM sound. 2008 saw the release of THE SLAY STACK GROWS, a compilation containing over 30 tracks on two CDs, with APE UPRISING! (2009), THE ANIMAL SPIRITS (2010), and the live album MADE IN POLAND (2011) rounding out the rest of the band’s catalog.

Slough Feg is:
Mike Scalzi – Guitars/Vocals
Angelo Tringali – Guitars
Adrian Maestas – Bass
Harry Cantwell – Drums

Former Nightwish Vocalist Goes Back To Her Roots…

NEW YORK, NY — On February 12, Eagle Rock Entertainment and earMusic will release Tarja Turunen & Harus’ IN CONCERT – LIVE AT SIBELIUS HALL on CD, Digital Audio, and Blu-ray/CD. [Pre-book Order Date January 11, MSRP $29.98 for Blu-ray/CD, $17.98 for CD]

This is the first official release from Tarja’s new project Harus. Turunen achieved worldwide recognition as a premiere heavy metal/hard rock vocalist as the front woman of multi-million selling band Nightwish, before embarking on a successful solo career. Now, showcasing the true breadth of her talent, Tarja steps away from the hard rock/heavy metal sound that made her an international star to return to her classical music roots with Harus.

The fusion of organ, electric guitar, percussion, and Turunen’s enchanting vocals filled Sibelius Hall that evening with an emotional, spellbinding energy. -Ricky Byrd’s Solo Debut LIFER Out February 5

New York, NY — Guitarist/Singer-Songwriter Ricky Byrd will release his solo debut LIFER on February 5, 2013 (Kayos Records). Recorded in Nashville and New York City, Executive Produced by Ray Kennedy (five-time Grammy Winner, Steve Earle, Ray Davies, Sheryl Crow) and co-produced by Byrd and Bob Stander, it features Byrd’s knack for classic hooks and jagged riffs, which gloriously sets the table for cut after meaningful cut.

The former longtime Blackhearts guitar slinger, whose monstrous power chords helped define Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ “I Love Rock & Roll,” is a restless New York City poet who carries a torch for the town he loves, along with enough handbags and glad rags to make you feel like it’s 1974 all over again.

But of course, it’s not, it’s 2013, so Byrd has created his defining musical statement, LIFER, which features 11 original odes to what got him here in the first place: British rock and roll, soul, R&B, AM radio, FM radio, “The Honeymooners,” Groucho Marx and Dorothy Parker, to name a few things. You’ve got to understand: Ricky Byrd is a slave to what he loves, and we all reap the rewards with LIFER.

“My main goal with this record was to try and craft the songs with the same heart and soul that filled the music I listened to as a kid in my parents Bronx apartment — the music that even at that young age, made the hair go up on my arms,” states Ricky.

The early Rolling Stones are what gave him the original reason to believe, and their misfit awkwardness was something he related to. It’s what he felt and they were what he wanted to be. It’s what The Who and Mott The Hoople did to him. So he grows up and ends up playing with Daltrey, Ian Hunter and lots of other idols. Now the circle completes. The kid from the Bronx finally creates the record he was put here to make, on his own terms, by his own rules and with all the swagger, attitude and street smarts he first honed as a punk kid hanging out in the back room at Max’s Kansas City.

Awash in the warmth of organs, pianos and guitars woven together with the jaded, wasted elegance of all the best Faces records, LIFER reflects the best elements of what made his favorite music so special in the first place. Spoken asides and soaring choruses punctuated by the Stax-flavored horns and the most soulful of backing vocals blend into one funky rock ‘n’ roll stew.

We’re also reminded across each track that Byrd is a guitarist first. He never overplays, choosing instead to weave tasteful, tuneful solos that are as efficient as they are inspired; all bluesy, boozy and backroom.

The album kicks off with “Rock ‘N’ Roll Boys,” an over-the-shoulder tribute to the old glitter glam haunt Max’s, where Byrd got his first real taste of the other side of life. “Foolish Kind” in particular is a time machine all its own, replete with sunny organ fills and Byrd’s whiskey-soaked guitars weaving rich tapestries together as one as they do throughout the entire album. The soulful plea “Wide Open,” the tongue-in-cheek “Married Man” and the driving “Harlem Rose” all stay true to Byrd’s vision of making the music that first captivated him, but it’s the closer, “Turnstile ’01,” that may give the listener the deepest pause. It’s Byrd coming to grips with post-9/11 New York City, his chiming valentine to the Big Apple, a poignant, plaintive downtown tribute that rings things out exquisitely.

Subways are running slow, still I’ve got to smile
I’m heading downtown to you; my heart won’t stop beating wild
Girl I’ll meet you
By the turnstile

Simply put, this is rock and roll for people that miss this kind of rock and roll.

1. Rock ‘N’ Roll Boys

6. Dream Big
7. Harlem Rose
8. Married Man
9. One Less Love
10. Things To Learn
11. Turnstile ’01

“THIS is what rock and roll is SUPPOSED to sound like: great songs, great riffs, and rough, sweaty vocals. Ain’t no auto-tuning here: Ricky Byrd’s rock is alive and well, thank you!”
-Ken Dashow, Q104.3 Classic Rock New York

“This is the record for all of us that cut our teeth on the Stones, Mott, Bowie, the Faces — the stuff that never gets old. Ricky’s guitar playing is inspired, and he wears his New York heart on his sleeve, delivering honest, bluesy, beautiful odes to all the things he loves; a very cool thing given his amazing taste. With LIFER, Byrd reminds us why we fell in love with rock and roll so much in the first place.”

-Code Of Silence’s “Sky Is Falling Down” Video Released

British Melodic Metal band Code Of Silence — fronted by Brazilian vocalist Gus Monsanto (Timo Tolkki’s Revolution Renaissance, Adagio, Symbolica, Lord Of Mushrooms) and young virtuoso guitar player Ben Randall (Power Quest) — have released their debut promo video for the track “Sky Is Falling Down.” The video can be viewed at http://youtu.be/FSPtR8ote-I .

Filmed in the derelict Lansdowne Parish Church in Glasgow, Scotland, on a freezing cold December day, the video was captured by Director MJ Dixon of Mycho Pictures.

Written by Paul Logue (Eden’s Curse) and bassist James Murray, “Sky Is Falling Down” is the first single from the bands full-length debut, DARK SKIES OVER BABYLON, which is described in the label press release as “a grandiose thematic album based upon the tales of the legendary Knights Templar during the period of the Crusades.”

The four-minute composition about the legendary Knights Templar focuses on the protagonist’s experiences and thoughts, in particular, what it meant in regards to his personal sacrifice and chosen life path.

Code Of Silence recently signed with Mausoleum Records and Rubicon Music.

Produced by Paul Logue (Eden’s Curse) and mixed and mastered by Italian producer Alessandro Del Vecchio (Eden’s Curse, Hardline, Lionville) Code Of Silence’s full-length debut, DARK SKIES OVER BABYLON, is scheduled for release on January 23 in Japan, February 25 in Europe and April 9 in North America.

-Extreme Prog Metallers Walk As Chaos Unleash New Music Video “Impasse”

Walk As Chaos, the new extreme progressive metal collaboration from Alan Sacha Laskow (Divinity, Enditol) and Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (Out Of Your Mouth, Autobody) are proud to unleash their new music video in support of their first single “Impasse.”

Directed by one of Alberta’s leading independent music video directors, Doug Cook, the video incorporates various film making techniques like old school stop-motion photography, computer graphic elements mixed with live action along with fantastic set and costume design to bring “Impasse” to the visual forefront.

“We are super excited about our new music video for ‘Impasse.’ Doug Cook (director) went the extra mile and we are proud to say we feel it sticks out as being modern & inventive — just like our music. When we started talking about how to bring the song into the visual realm, Doug decided the backdrop should be a futuristic world made up of lines that had a difficult time connecting with each other, like a maze. He also wanted to put Jerrod and I into situations that showcased our collaboration (singer/engineer) but also the frustration one can be faced with when being at a impasse, whether is be Man vs. Man, Man vs. Tech and Man vs. Nature, etc.” comments Laskow.

Walk As Chaos – “Impasse” video

Two musical comrades from the northern wasteland collaborate to create a unique hybrid between true Progressive and Extreme Metal leanings. All instrumentation is programmed and played by MIDI except the guitar and vocals. Think Cynic and Animals As Leaders meeting Meshuggah and Decapitated and you’re getting there.

A continuation of Enditol with a fresh start and new name, WAC is essentially a playground for their minds to unleash whatever they feel like and put down to “tape,” just pure expression and an honest attempt to communicate.

-Jess And The Ancient Ones Announce Release Date For New EP

Today, Svart Records announces February 22nd as the international release date for Jess And The Ancient Ones’ brand-new ASTRAL SABBAT. Although it’s been only nine months since the release of their brilliant and spellbinding debut album on Svart, Finland’s Jess And The Ancient Ones have already moved on. After a split 7″ with Spain’s Deadmask last November on Doomentia, the band is already gearing up for something new: a three-song EP titled ASTRAL SABBAT — to be released on CD, LP, and digital download — is expected to shatter most of the preconceptions some already held against the band. Track listing follows below.

Once again recorded with Swedish sonic wizard Tore Stjerna of Necromorbus Studio in their hometown of Kuopio, ASTRAL SABBAT sees Jess And The Ancient Ones pushing forward the boundaries of the sound established on their debut full-length and forging their own path, as personified by the rather unusual choice of cover song: “Long And Lonesome Road,” originally written and recorded by Dutch rock outfit Shocking Blue, mostly known for their mega-hit “Venus.”

“We wanted to give these works a space entirely their own,” reveals guitarist Thomas Corpse, “so that listeners are able to focus on them completely. For this purpose, we consider an EP the perfect means. Regarding the surprising choice of cover, I had heard the song at a very young age. And now, after travelling many roads, it returned to me. It is a timeless song, and I hope someone discovers Shocking Blue through us.”

With its cover art designed by Adam Burke of Nightjar Graphics, its accompanying video (a first for the band) that will be released to the public on February 6th, and its epic “More Than Living” that swallows the entire B side on the vinyl version, ASTRAL SABBAT will prove that Jess And The Ancient Ones are now way beyond all those occult, prog, or retro-rock tags and playing a game on their own.

Joel Grind’s THE YELLOWGOAT SESSIONS full-length is now available on iTunes, Bandcamp and Nimbits with Spotify, Amazon, MOG, etc. soon to follow.

Recorded as a Toxic Holocaust return-to-form of sorts (think the CRITICAL MASS demo), THE YELLOWGOAT SESSIONS features 10 tracks of raw, abrasive fuzzed out rock / metal / punk a la early Bathory and Motörhead. Comments Grind: “If you are looking for over-produced sh*t that passes as Metal today this is NOT for you.”

Like first single “Cross Damnation,” the album is now available as a “name your own price” release with a suggested donation of $5 allowing fans to pay whatever they feel like paying… or pay nothing at all.

Grind elaborates: “Making a recording is far from free; your donation of any size goes toward supporting an independent artist and allows projects like this to continue. In my opinion, music being released direct from the artist to the fan with no middle men is the future. With your support of this project as well as similar ones from other artists, I think we can make a serious change in the way the music ‘biz’ is run.”

Preorders for the LP, as well as a limited edition bundle that includes the LP, T-shirt and a bonus track are available at the links below.

LP Preorders:

Limited Edition Bundle Preorders:

“It’s thrashy in places, but has more of a thrash n’ roll vibe. ‘Hells’ Master Of Hell’ is very Motorhead-influenced, with even raspier vocals. Songs like ‘Foul Spirit Within’ have a slower tempo and more ominous feel. The production is rough and raw with plenty of distortion, perfect for a project like this. Fans of Toxic Holocaust will definitely dig THE YELLOWCOAT SESSIONS, as will those who appreciate down and dirty thrash-infused rock.” – About.com

-Candlelight Records 2013 Label Update

Candlelight Records extends a Happy New Years greeting to all our media, retail, and band friends around the globe. We have an active year planned and hope you will find many records of interest over the next twelve months. As always, if you have any questions or need anything, just ask one of our staffers and we’ll gladly sort. And now for the news…

New Signings:

We are proud to announce a number of new signings to the label.

Earth Crisis (World): No hardcore or metal fan can be unaware of Eart Crisis or the contribution the Syracuse-based band has made to heavy music since their founding in 1989. Now in 2013, the band begins a new chapter with a new record, a new label, a new quest to deliver music as only they can. Expected to begin recording late spring, watch for updates as the five-piece prep for an active and productive year.

Palehorse (World): Terrorizer Magazine call this UK bevy, “a band who marry a palpable viciousness of delivery with a desire to sidestep heavy amplification convention in search of a more unsettling and uncompromising onslaught.” Together since 2000, the band have released two full-length albums; both overwhelmingly received by media. Now for album number three, the band expects to turn even more heads.

Demon Lung (World): The Las Vegas-based quartet have completed recording with Billy Anderson and are anticipating a late spring release. The band notes of the recording adventure, “recording with Billy was an amazing experience creatively and personally. Having never met him before, we were a bit intimidated by his resume and the fact that he has recorded some of our favorite albums. But within the first three minutes we knew we were in good hands.” Anderson notes, “it’s going to be an epic album by an epic band.”

Voices (World): Featuring Akercocke/My Dying Bride drummer David Gray with Akercocke’s Peter Benjamin and Sam Loynes, this new UK-based black metal band is set to release their debut via Candlelight in the coming months. FROM THE HUMAN FOREST CREATE A FUGUE OF IMAGINARY RAIN was recorded at London’s Legacy Studios and was produced by Dan Abela. Terrorizer has already called the record “a unique beast brimming with ultra-blasts and dexterous riffing.”

Cnoc Un Tursa (World): The epic sounds of this Scottish quartet will impress those that enjoy the diversity of the current pagan/black/folk metal explosion. The band’s Candlelight debut, THE GIANTS OF AULD, was recorded at Foel Studios in Wales by acclaimed producer Chris Fielding (Primordial, Electric Wizard). It is set for North American release late March. Heathen Harvest calls the album “a potent mixture of black metal riffage and rousing, epic atmosphere.”

Non Existence (World): The Austria-based band fronted by Philip Santoll is ready to unveil their second album via Candlelight this spring. ANTARCTICA combines the familiar bombast of Dimmu Borgir with an Arcturus-like avant-garde swagger, and the melancholy of My Dying Bride. The band says the album is as cold and massive as it is beautiful and raw. The album follows up the band’s 2007 debut, NIHIL.

Mael Mordha (World): With three full-length albums already to their credit, Ireland’s Gaelic doomsters now join forces with Candlelight for their next chapter. The quintet is currently busy working on the follow-up to 2010’s MANANNA. The band recently performed alongside Primordial at the Redemption Festival in Dublin. Rotting Christ, Solstafir, and label mates Winterfylleth were also featured on the bill.

Hopeless Youth (World): These Canadians have been stumbling between basement shows and venues as they strive to bring fast aggressive music to everyone. After self-releasing their own self-titled EP, Hopeless Youth have proved that they have what it takes to go to the next level. Now signed to Candlelight, the five-piece will be releasing a full-length with plans to tour the world. Whether it’s beer soaked or sober, they’ll stop at nothing to play everywhere.

Shade Empire (World): Finland-based symphonic black metal band are set to silence a four-year hiatus with a new record via Candlelight Records. Metal Observer calls the band, “a smorgasbord of melodic thrash, technical death metal, and synthesized chaos with an industrial sheen.” Chronicles Of Chaos call them, “a veritable melting pot of metal genres.” It will be exciting to hear what this six-piece have in store for fans in the coming months.

Armed For Apocalypse (Europe): The Sacramento band is hard-at-work on album number two. It is expected for release late spring. Featuring former members of Will Haven, the four-piece has performed alongside a wide range of artists including Unearth, The Used, Static-X, Helmet, Lazarus A.D., and The Funeral Pyre.

Wounded Kings (World): From the misty moors of Dartmoor, the respected quartet now call Candlelight their home. Roadburn alumni, Wounded Kings have a sizeable world following and their new record is already eagerly anticipated. Aquarian Weekly says the band’s “riffs are so locked in doom lore that you can almost imagine there was a thin sheet of dust on the two-inch tape this was plainly recorded on from the irregularly dusted castle it was plainly recorded in.”

Sadgiqacea (World): Heavy Planet says, “while destroying everything in their path, Philadelphia-based Sadgiqacea creates an inspiring assault of beauty meets devastation. Crushing riffs and ambient beauty swirl as the vocals bark… epic and full on sludge.” Fueled by the duo of Evan Schaefer and Fred Grabosky, the band recently completed their Candlelight debut. Expect an April release.

Hybris (World): Weaving technical thrash with classic heavy metal and strong hints of progressive, these London thrashers are set to unveil their debut album late spring. Band founder/leader Federica proves that girls can truly thrash. The band has been regulars to the stage, playing alongside Municipal Waste, Helstar, Volture, and others.

New Releases:

See below for confirmed releases as well recordings in progress.

Orange Goblin (World): Ready for what could be the biggest year in their career, the Orange Goblin boys are ready to hit the road to support their forthcoming A EULOGY FOR THE FANS/ORANGE GOBLIN LIVE 2012. The CD/DVD will hit North American stores on March 12; just as the band begins their first stateside tour in many a year. Teaming up with Clutch, the band will visit cities all over the US and Canada playing fan favorites from their extensive recording registry. Confirmed tour dates are noted in the tour section below.

Ihsahn (World): The former Emperor vocalist/guitarist is set to touchdown on US soil for this year’s Maryland Death Festival. This will be only the second time the highly respected musician has performed as a solo artist since setting out on his own (following the 2001 demise of Emperor). He is already feverously working on new material which he plans to record in the coming months; songs to be included on his fourth solo recording anticipated for late year.

Havok (World): The Denver thrashers are getting ready to hit the studio to record what is expected to be a highly anticipated album. Planned for release late June, the still untitled album will follow TIME IS UP, the offering that really opened doors for the still young quartet. The band was a performer on Barge To Hell (alongside At The Gates, Napalm Death, Behemoth, and label mates Corrosion Of Conformity, among others). Watch for more recording details in the coming weeks.

Woe (World): The third record from the Philadelphia black metal band is set to be released this spring. Hailed by media since their debut, A SPELL FOR THE DEATH OF MAN in 2008, Woe has slowly built a solid fan base with Metal Sucks saying, “this is the sound of black metal to come.” Teeth Of The Divine note, “Woe carve out their own niche amid the US black metal scene without bowing down to either forced brittle Scandinavian worship, post rock injections or self-loathing depression.”

Meads Of Asphodel (World): Finishing up work on SONDERKOMMANDO, their second album for Candlelight, the UK-based black metal medievalists plan to take their loyal fan base on another dynamic adventure. Stereogum notes, “it’s impossible to nail their sound without just diving in,” when detailing the band’s unique sound. It is hard to pinpoint when you consider the band have covered Stiff Little Fingers, Discharge, the Stranglers, Conflict, Skeptix, the Kinks, and completed a split recording with Mayhem in 2002.

Also coming…. new recordings from Altar Of Plagues (Europe), Limbonic Art (World), and Abigail Williams (World).

by Tim Wadzinski (tsw512@yahoo.com)

-Interview w/ Jammer (Brute Forcz)
January, 2013

The old-school metal power trio Brute Forcz, consisting of the actor/ex-pro wrester brothers Steel — Robbn a.k.a. “Jammer” (bass, vocals) and Ronn a.k.a. “Slammer” (drums) — along with lead guitarist Will Wallner, released its debut full-length album OUT FOR BLOOD last fall. The 10-track release was produced and engineered by the renowned tandem of Bob Kulick and Brett Chassen, and sports a gritty, W.A.S.P.-meets-Motorhead type of sound. I spoke to Jammer back in September of 2011 (Mini-Issue #608.5 – September 16, 2011) when a four-track taster EP called, appropriately enough, KICK ASS HEAVY METAL had been released to raise interest in the band. Now that the album is here I again touched base with Jammer, to get all the updates.

DETRITUS: First off, congrats on getting the album out. When I spoke to you in 2011 the KICK ASS HEAVY METAL EP had just been released, and you were hoping it would make a splash. How was it received?

JAMMER: We put the EP out strictly to see how our music and sound would go over and if we should continue in this direction. It went over big for us; we got nothing but positive responses from everyone who heard or was sent the EP. We were hoping to get the album out sooner, but it did not work out that way. Regardless, we are very happy with the response from both our EP and new CD, OUT FOR BLOOD.

D: The songs from the EP — “Live For Speed,” “Sex Machine,” “Leather N Chains,” and “Thrill Queen” — rear their heads again on OUT FOR BLOOD. Were they re-mixed, re-mastered, or tweaked in any way for the album? If not, were you at least ever tempted to go back and “fix” anything with them?

J: They were not touched frankly because Bob Kulick and Brett Chassen did a great job with them. There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to tweak anything.

D: I always used to love the “Track-By-Track” feature in Metal Edge magazine 20+ years ago. For each song can you talk about its meaning or inspiration, or maybe relate a story about its genesis or recording?

1. “Live For Speed” – We have friends in NASCAR, everyone loves to drive fast and those are the inspirations behind this song. It is the way heavy metal fans like it, fast and hard….

2. “Out For Blood” – Just thinking about all of the killing that goes on in society. How cool it would be to hunt down the sick killers like the savage dogs they really are. The ones who hurt little kids or innocent people. This is about what it would be like to hunt down the killers and get your revenge.

3. “Metal Injection” – Open up and slide it in, you need a metal injection. Everyone knows Heavy Metal has the hottest chicks, and they need an injection from a heavy metal band. Or they can inject our metal CD into their box…

4. “Sex Machine” – Pretty much says it all. About a couple of strippers that I met who could do it all… and did, like a machine.

5. “Teenage Lover” – Do I really need to explain my thinking behind this?

6. “Leather N Chains” – The heavy metal lifestyle. Whatever you do — riding, partying, kicking ass, having sex — do it in leather and chains…

7. “Torture Chamber” – Destroying your mind, body and soul through drugs. Say what you want but at some point they will always catch up to you and the torture begins.

8. “Thrill Queen” – This song is dedicated to the beautiful women of porn. The ones who make you rise to the occasion and then work hard to make you explode in ecstasy. We salute them, keep them cumming.

9. “Hang Em High” – In the old west, when you committed a major crime, the posse hunted you down and hung you from the highest tree. I think about all the crimes committed in the world today and the system that allows criminals to stall and in some cases literally get away with murder. If they lived back in the old west, that would be a different story…

10. “Freedom’s Heart (Neda’s Song)” – This song is dedicated to the memory of Neda Agha-Soltan, a young Iranian woman who was killed at the 2009 Iranian election protests. It was described as “probably the most widely witnessed death in human history.” This is not a song about politics, but of human rights, something that we take for granted sometimes here in the US. A tragic story about a young woman who wanted to express her rights as a human being and as a woman and was tragically killed simply by observing.

D: The riff and solo in “Metal Injection” are both all sorts of killer. What’s your favorite part of the album, either a lyric, riff, solo, or a full song?

J: Well obviously I like every song, but I really like “Out For Blood.” I just like the evilness of the riff and Will did a great job on it. I will say this, the most underrated song is “Thrill Queen.” It is about porn chicks, I love the lyrics ’cause they are straight to the point, and when we play that song live, the women in the crowd love to dance to it. Maybe it has a special meaning to them, maybe they want to be Thrill Queens?

D: The cover art and song titles conjure up a pretty specific image, one of old-school ’80s metal with lots of partying and sexual escapades, and a dash of macho violence to grab kids’ attention. But then the album closes with the thoughtful “Freedom’s Heart (Neda’s Song).” Was there ever any hesitation to include this track? What kind of attention has it brought you?

J: We actually bumped a couple of songs off this album to put “Freedom’s Heart” on. We saw Neda’s story on an HBO special and it really got to me. Here is just an innocent person who wanted her freedom and wasn’t allowed to have such, like we have here in the US. There was more to her story than what people think, and in the end she was just accidentally shot. We plan to try to push this song in the Middle East. We know the kids there want to hear metal and rock music, so we plan to push this song more in the upcoming future.

D: “Teenage Lover” is like a skeevier, heavier, updated version of Kiss’ “Christine Sixteen.” How would you explain this one to your daughter? 🙂

J: I don’t have a daughter, no explaining needed… But what I would say is, that if you listen to the song, we are talking about 18- or 19-year-olds. But for everyone with their minds in the gutter, go for it…

D: What’s the songwriting process like? Is there a dictator in the band or is it a team effort?

J: I do all of the writing right now, but Slammer and Will are welcome to throw their thoughts in… But as a dictator, I will veto it…

D: Were all 10 songs in the can back in ’11, and you just picked the four for the EP? Or did you just have the four ready, and now in the last year or so you’ve been able to finish up the other six?

J: All of the songs were not in the can when the EP was put out. We were able to finish recording the other songs over the last year or so.

D: As I recall from our previous interview, there are a few other songs in the Brute Forcz catalog that didn’t make it onto OUT FOR BLOOD. Are you intending to include them on the next album, or do you plan to start fresh when the time comes?

J: We already have a couple of songs from before, and the other eight songs have already been written and are just about ready to go. But I am not in a hurry, we have to get this album’s worth of songs out there as much as possible and to as many people as possible, so a new album is a ways away.

D: Does part of getting OUT FOR BLOOD out to the masses include touring, and/or any videos? What’s on tap?

J: Yes it definitely does. The last couple of things for us to accomplish to get the ball rolling are to tour and to put out a good video — you must be a mind reader. We have some big plans, cannot announce them yet until they are a definite, but look for us in 2013.

D: One last thing. Whatever happened with you and your brother’s appearance in the “Jack And Jill” movie last year? I never saw it — I guess I’m not much of an Adam Sandler fan these days.

J: Good question. We did the movie, got a starring credit. We are in the end of the movie; I think we have four scenes. We were happy, but I guess the movie did not do well. One thing though, Adam Sandler is very cool.

D: We wish you all the best in 2013. Any final words you’d like to say here?

J: We would like to thank all of our fans and the people who have hung in there with us so far. This is a tough business and can break you if you are not strong and have some good support. We would also like to thank you Tim, without an avenue like this, a lot of bands like ours would not get the chance to be heard. We really appreciate it, so there will be no body slam for you in the near future. We wish everyone a great 2013, and look for BRUTE FORCZ, we will be BIG, THICK, and IN YOUR FACE!!!!!!

-Well, clearly, I am happy Jammer won’t be slamming me onto the mat anytime soon. 🙂 Give Brute Forcz a spin and see for yourself what we’ve been talking about.
