-Randy Rhoads Family Drops Legal Bomb On Documentary Producers

Randy Rhoads & Family Betrayed With Unauthorized Use Of Materials

HOLLYWOOD, CA — In late 2012 Randy Rhoads’ mother, Delores Rhoads, and siblings Kathryn Rhoads D’Argenzio and Kelle Rhoads, learned that a coffee table book titled “Randy Rhoads” had been released, co-authored by Andrew Klein and rock writer Steven Rosen with the assistance of Peter Margolis and Denny Anderson. The family obtained a copy of the book. They were both astonished and horrified to see that Klein and Margolis are holding themselves out as “experts” on the life of Randy Rhoads, implying that they had the approval and cooperation of the Rhoads family, which they did not.

On April 1, 2007, Margolis entered into an agreement with the Rhoads family to produce a single documentary film on the life of Randy Rhoads. Margolis assured the family that the film would be completed within three years. From that point on, however, Margolis himself did not own any of the ideas and materials obtained or created in the production of the documentary, or any of the photos, videos or sound recordings collected for use in it, having assigned all of that to Dakota Films, the company financing and producing the documentary. Over the next several years, Margolis, Klein and others, working for Dakota Films, went forward with the project. Although Margolis reportedly claimed, as of early 2012, that the documentary was completed — “in the can” — it has never been released. Individuals who saw portions of it during production have reported that it was “edited poorly and unprofessionally,” and that the quality of the film was “abysmal.” The Rhoads family was frustrated by what they considered the mediocre quality of Margolis’ film, and by the fact that the “official documentary” they had so long hoped for had never come to fruition. This has been especially painful for Randy’s mother, Delores Rhoads, who is now in her nineties, and has spent the last three decades carefully preserving and advancing the legacy of her son.

The family contends that Margolis and Klein have stolen the materials; they have no rights or ownership of, from the failed documentary. They used them in the book, in order to try to exploit Randy and the family for their own profit, while trying to establish themselves as “authorities” on Randy Rhoads. They have falsely implied that they have the Rhoads family’s support and cooperation for the unauthorized book. The family emphasizes that in no way did they authorize or participate in publication of the book, nor have they had anything more to do with either Margolis or Klein since the production of the unreleased documentary ended.

Moreover, according to the family’s complaint, the book contained more than fifty instances in which Klein and Margolis had used without permission photos, excerpts from interviews and other personal information that had been provided to them by the Rhoads family solely and exclusively for use in the authorized documentary film and for no other purpose.

The Randy Rhoads Estate and family have filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against the filmmakers and now authors Peter Margolis and Andrew Klein, the publishing company Velocity Publishing Group, Inc., and co-author Steven Rosen. The suit arises out of a failed documentary film project on the life of Randy Rhoads, and the defendants’ recent publication of a book arising out of their involvement in that film project. The defendants are alleged to having made extensive and, unauthorized use of personal information and photos from that documentary project, and are accused of fraud, breach of contract, invasion of privacy, and misappropriation of rights of publicity.

Randy Rhoads had a relatively short career as a rock guitarist and songwriter, but like James Dean had in the movies, Rhoads blazed like a comet across the music world, particularly in his short time as lead guitarist, first with Quiet Riot and then, most famously, with Ozzy Osbourne in the early Eighties. Rhoads’ guitar work and songwriting are featured on such legendary songs as “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley.” While he was alive Rhoads was voted “Best New Talent” and “Best Heavy Metal Guitarist” by various music magazines. In March 1982, Rhoads tragically died in a plane crash, at the age of 25, while on tour with Osbourne. Noted for the influence of his classical musical training on his high-speed, heavy metal guitar style, Rhoads reputation and influence has grown exponentially in the years since his death. Rolling Stone and Guitar World list Rhoads high on their lists of Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of all time. “Crazy Train,” which he co-wrote, place Number 51 on Rolling Stone’s list of the Greatest Songs Of All Time. Ozzy Osbourne has been quoted as having said “”He was a saint. . . . He was an angel, and too good for this world. His death’s always on my mind. Every year at the anniversary of his birth and death, fans from all over the world gather at his grave site to honor his passing. We will never forget him. His musical legacy lives on in the minds and music of his many fans.”

-Treat’s 30th Anniversary

Swedish melodic rock legends Treat are celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2013 and announce some mouth-watering news for all their fans. Treat will release a special 30th anniversary edition package, containing a “best of” album with two brand new songs and two previously unreleased songs, and their latest album COUP DE GRACE, regarded as a “masterpiece” by Classic Rock Magazine and voted “Melodic rock album of the year 2010,” with an extra track.

Treat also plans a big tour, that will kick off with some major festival gigs in the summer, and will see them rockin’ on the road in to the autumn. Then it’s over. For good.

“We have a saying in Sweden: You should always leave the party when you have the most fun,” says guitarist and songwriter Anders Wikström who formed the band back in 1983 together with singer Robert Ernlund. “Say what? Treat is breaking up! Treat has never been a more tight-knit rock ‘n’ roll unit than now, and the band is brimming with creativity and excitement. That’s why the band now chooses to call it a day; they want to, as they put it, “end on a high note.”

“We’re doin’ it out of love and respect for our fans,” Anders Wikström says. “We quit before they ask us to get the hell out. We want Treat’s legacy to be pure rock ‘n’ roll happiness!”

The decision to close down operation is most amicable, and kind of grew upon the five in the band, but when the decision was made, the band almost immediately started making plans for the farewell party next year.

“We’re going out with a bang and will give our fans a ride they didn’t even knew they wanted,” says Anders Wikström.

Treat, who released their classic debut album SCRATCH AND BITE back in 1985, now also introduces the new bass player Fredrik Thomander, who’s for years been close to The Band Of Brothers that Treat are: Fredrik has been co-writing songs with the band, mixed COUP DE GRACE and has already done some gigs as a Treat Brother.

Anders Wikström (guitar and vocals), Robert Ernlund (lead vocals), Jamie Borger (drums), Patrick Appelgren (keyboards and vocals) and Fredrik Thomander (bass and vocals) take Sweden on a turbo charged rock ‘n’ roll journey in 2013. There’s many ways to say good-bye.

“We wanna party with our fans,” says Robert Ernlund and adds: “The Treat’s on us!”

Finest Melodic Hard Rock featuring Harry Hess, Robert Hart, Danny Vaughn, Ralf Scheepers, Tommy Denander, Ralph Santolla, Vinny Burns, etc.

Rage Of Angels is the brainchild of original Ten keyboard player Ged Rylands, who played on their first three studio albums and the double live CD NEVER SAY GOODBYE.

During his time in Ten, Ged took part in several very successful tours in Japan as well as playing on the highly praised 1996 debut album from Valentine singer Hugo, which was co-produced by Ten vocalist Gary Hughes.

After leaving Ten, Ged went on to play with Contagious and guitar wizard Danny Danzi, and then after a ten-year break raising his daughter alone, he returned to play on albums by Omega, Scar For Life and Lover Under Cover, before joining Tyketto in 2012 as a touring member of the band.

However, during that ten-year break Ged continued writing, the results of which can now be heard with Rage Of Angels.

During the initial stages of the album, Ged hooked up with Los Angeles-based singer David Reed Watson. As Ged explains, “David sent my girlfriend a Happy Birthday MP3 with him singing a cappella on it. I even turned off the TV and said ‘play that again.’ I made my girlfriend message him and I just saw so much talent in his voice that I asked him if he would like record some stuff for the album. We needed to get some help production-wise, so Bruce (Mee) put me in touch with Kane Roberts (Alice Cooper/solo) who took David under his wing and got a superb vocal performance from someone whom we will be hearing lots more from.”

It was while hanging out with Bruce at the 2011 Z Rock Festival that the suggestion was made about getting some other “name” singers into the project to enhance the finished product. Friends such as Danny Vaughn (Tyketto) and Harry Hess (Harem Scarem) were contacted, and happily agreed to take part.

When the album was taken to Escape Music, label owner Khalil Turk used his excellent connections to bring in further name vocalists such as Matti Alfonzetti, Ralf Scheepers and Robert Hart. But it’s not just in the vocal department that the album positively exudes class; Ged has brought a similar level of talent in for the guitarists, with former Ten colleague Vinny Burns supplying a solo that Rylands describes as “very much in the vein of ‘Loneliest Place In The World’ from our Ten days.”

Another ex-Ten guitarist, Neil Fraser, provides the majority of the playing on the album, but Millenium guitarist and fan favorite Ralph Santolla also makes an appearance. Explains Ged, “Me and Vinny were posting stuff on Facebook one day and Ralph messaged me and said, ‘I challenge Vinny Burns to a guitar duel on your album!’ How could I not refuse? So I wrote ‘Requiem For The Forgotten Soldier’ just so we could all have a mighty show-off guitar battle, which Martin Kronlund and Xander Demos even managed to get involved in!” Martin Kronlund also provided the magnificent mix.

The band name Rage Of Angels comes from a lyric written by Bruce Mee that Ged was impressed enough with to write the accompanying music, and will be heard on the band’s follow-up release in 2014. But for now, the adventure is just beginning and be assured that this release is one that will garner rave reviews from fans of hard melodic rock worldwide. Part Ten, part Harem Scarem, part Tyketto… all CLASS. FEEL THE RAGE in 2013!!

-Lion Music: Upcoming Release Information

Here is the information for our 14th February 2013 releases.

Lion Music is excited to announce the release of CHANGES, the new album from Spain’s leading melodic hard rock act Airless, on 14 February 2013.

Five years after the release of the FIGHT album, Airless are once again rocking on all levels, lush vocal melodies combine flawlessly with the stellar guitar work of Robert Rodrigo; all backed up by a hard working rhythm section.

The new album sees keyboard parts now played by a dedicated keyboardist in guest musician Diego Rois, and this has given a stronger aspect to this side of the band’s sound. Elsewhere legendary vocalist Danny Vaughn (Tyketto / Waysted / Vaughn) performs guest vocals on the title track.

CHANGES is the sound of a band full of confidence and at the top of their game. Four albums into their career the band have formulated a signature sound, no doubt aided by the first-class guitar work of Robert Rodrigo, one of Spain’s best known rock guitarists and endorser of Ibanez Guitars, Orange amps and DiMarzio pickups.

The band’s sound, whilst based on the classic American melodic hard rock sound, features more European hallmarks in certain chord progressions and melodies. If you have a penchant for bands in the vein of Hagar era Van Halen, White Lion and Harem Scarem then Airless is a must-hear.

Born in January 2002 Airless soon signed with the company Vinny Records. Their self-titled debut album was released in June 2002 and produced by Carlos Creator, it was released worldwide.

Airless’ second album, 2ND ROUND (2005), was also produced by Carlos Creator and released by Lion Music (Mellow Music / Japan). Promoting 2ND ROUND, Airless shared the stage with renowned bands like Riot, Tyketto and Dare.

The band’s third album, FIGHT (2008), was once again released by Lion Music. During the promotion of FIGHT, Airless played on several Hard Rock/AOR Fests, and shared stage with bands like Vega, Serpentine, Houston, and Reckless Love.

The band began work on the composition of new material for their fourth album during 2009 and 2010 before taking a sabbatical in 2011. The band reconvened in 2012 to finish the album CHANGES is set for release on CD and Digital Download on 14 February 2013 once again on Lion Music.

Lion Music is proud to introduce the debut album PATHFINDER by Japanese atmospheric rock/metal outfit Early Cross on 14 February 2013.

Early Cross are a four-piece band comprised of Natasha Vaichuk (Vocals), Hiroaki Kato (6 & 12 String Guitars, Bouzouki, Pianos, Mellotrons, Organs), Yugo Maeda (Bass) and Yushi Soutome (Drums).

With a sound much bigger than the sum of their parts, PATHFINDER is a strong label debut full of carefully crafted music, depth, musical richness and emotion with a dark foreboding presence that will find favor with fans of Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Day Six, The Gathering, The Wishing Tree, etc.

Home to a clean and powerful production, Early Cross are set to make a powerful impact on the rock and metal world outside their native Japan and the band are looking to tour in Europe in 2013.

The album’s creation started with the band writing the music at the end of 2010 and worked on it little by little in parallel with playing at several rock festivals. Work on the lyrics commenced in 2011 under the consultation of Mustumi Tanamura who was in charge of the lyrical and vocal direction for the album, which have been soulfully delivered by the band’s vocalist Natasha Vaichuk.

In 2011, Japan was struck by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, which saw the band activities temporarily suspended. Thereafter, the band restarted their activities by joining Lion Music’s benefit album EMBRACE THE SUN which saw all profits go to the Japan Red Cross Appeal.

In summer 2012, recording the album began at Studio NEST. Jan Erik Liljeström from Anekdoten participated as a guest musician. The album was mixed by Christer-André Cederberg (ex-Animal Alpha, ex-In The Woods…) who has been nominated five times in the Norwegian Grammy Awards and is well-known for working with Anathema, Circus Maximus, New Empire, Petter Carlsen, et al.

The mastering of the album was done at Propeller Mastering, Oslo, Norway by Chris Sansom who has been in charge of a number of masterpieces by Anathema, Jaga Jazzist, Motorpsycho, Bernhoft, Enslaved, Bertine Zetlitz, et al. This excellent team, one of the best Norwegian production teams, led the album to its completion.

The artwork was created by Takashi Miyamoto, a truly talented graphic designer who has been involved in the production of “Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn,” Otomo Katsuhiro’s “Farewell To Weapons,” etc.

Early Cross prove that there is a burgeoning metal scene pushing the envelope of styles in their homeland and PATHFINDER will give listeners worldwide the chance to taste metal by one of Japan’s most promising acts.

Honest and genuine music. The emotions it conveys will touch the listener!

The full-length debut from Norway’s Acelsia is here. Brought to you via their own Quietude Productions label, the album follows on from a series of EPs over the past few years.

Vocalist Malene Markussen leads the way and explains how the band have kept things fresh in the studio: “We’ve recorded the album pretty fast, hoping to keep things as spontaneous as possible, by trying lots out on the fly and concentrating on getting the right feel ahead of doing things too perfectly.”

Already known for their original melodic hard rock that is full of emotion and contrast, Acelsia draw on a broad range of influences in their song writing. Malene continues, “The songs shine even more now and the album will definitely be as uplifting and emotional as we envisioned.”

The album was preceded by a single, “The Mender,” which has already received wide coverage and radio play. Guitarist Odd Henning gives us some details about that song: “‘The Mender’ is very much the quintessential Acelsia song. With its soaring vocal melodies, airy and heavy guitars and throbbing drum patterns, it is basically a catchy song with hints of hard rock and shoegazer — and even some metal in its double bass drum driven, goose bump inducing finale.

“The song is about compassion; how you unconditionally always do your best to make someone who’s hurting feel better, regardless of your own inadequacies and shortcomings to do so.”

Acelsia now proudly present DON’T GO WHERE I CAN’T FOLLOW. Malene’s vocals combine with the rich guitars of Odd Henning, with drums from guest Bjorn Tore Erlendsen of Aspherium, to provide a fresh take on hard rock that brings both the quiet and mellow as well as the heavy and noisy.

For the growing list of live shows Malene and Odd will be joined by Morten Granheim, Henning Ramseth and Eskil Hakonsen.

My Soliloquy is a British band formed in 2002 by multi-instrumentalist Pete Morten. Since then the band has released a number of demos, gaining traction in the metal underground. The band had a number of notable support shows with Pagans Mind, Power Quest, Oliver and Rick Wakeman, and Threshold, as well as a second-to-headline set at Bloodstock ’05 and a showcase at 2007’s ProgPower UK II.

Since 2007, Morten has been an active member of British prog metal legends Threshold. His membership has raised awareness (and created anticipation) for My Soliloquy’s long awaited debut.

The essence of My Soliloquy is pure forward thinking metal — symphonic keyboards, shredding guitar leads, soaring vocals — all finely woven together with a blend of intricacy and melody. THE INTERPRETER was mixed and mastered by Rob Aubrey who has been a mainstay of Marillion’s camp for many years.

-Nightfall Releases Second Single Off CASSIOPEIA Exclusively Via Website Of Legacy Magazine!

New Album Out January 18th/21st As Digi-CD Via Metal Blade Europe!

Greek symphonic metallers Nightfall have released the second single of their upcoming new album CASSIOPEIA!

Surf over to our partners in crime Legacy magazine, Europe’s biggest extreme metal magazine, at http://legacy.de to check out “Colonize Cultures!”

Nightfall comments on the song as follows: “The wheel of human race is moving towards by instinct. Slowly like a ferocious heavy tank roaring in muddy terrain and bravely like an astronaut in his capsule traveling to no man land. The creation of new lanes to earthly havens for the countless of restless souls to follow enormously is a fascinating old story. The Colonization is an unstoppable process that soon will reach extraterrestrial lands. A new Culture is imperative for smooth transition to the new era.”

CASSIOPEIA will be released January, 18th/21st as a Digi-CD and digital download via Metal Blade Records in Europe!

Nightfall recorded the album in four different places, something the band is quite familiar with. Vocals and keys were recorded in Greece (Soundflakes studios & Cyberia) while the drums got hammered down in Germany in the Soundlodge studios. Guitars and bass were recorded in the US in Nashville, Tennessee in the Boomcave studios.

More than on the previous album ASTRON BLACK & THE THIRTY TYRANTS, in CASSIOPEIA the spirit of old school Heavy Metal larks in almost every riff, with Mercyful Fate’s and King Diamond’s guitar style having its top notch, always the Nightfall way.

Unlike ASTRON BLACK, there are more fast tempos as well as grindy ones bringing memories back from the mid ’90s times of now-cult release ATHENIAN ECHOES! The vocals remain very, very heavy and thanks to Soundflakes amazing gear and Jörg Uken’s super mixing skills fit great with the melodic leads, moreover creating a solid sound wall where vocalist Efthimis comfortably sits on and spreading his inner daemons out to the world!

CASSIOPEIA track listing:
1. Phaethon (4:37)
2. Oberon & Titania (4:40)
3. Colonize Cultures (3:23)
4. The Nightwatch (4:49)
5. Stellar Parallax (4:07)
6. Hubris (5:19)
7. The Reptile Gods (4:41)
8. Hyperion (4:26)
9. Akhenaton, The 9th Pharaoh Of The 18th Dynasty (4:10)
10. The Sand Reckoner (4:22)
11. Astropolis (6:15)

Efthimis Karadimas – vocals
Evan Hensley – guitars
Constantine – guitars
Stathis Ridis – bass

-Important Axemaster News

Axemaster would like to announce a change in the band’s lineup; Geoff McGraw has replaced Tony Webster as their lead vocalist. Due to personal issues Tony was unable to do any work with the project for a significant length of time and had informed the band that he was unsure as to whether he would ever be able to continue. After allowing some time to see if the problems could be resolved, it became clear that a change was needed in order to be able to move forward with the band in general and the new album in particular. We all wish Tony the very best for the future and hope that he finds success in whatever path he chooses.

Enter new vocalist Geoff McGraw!!!! Geoff has been performing and singing since he was practically old enough to walk and at a young age developed a huge appetite for all things heavy metal. He has been a member of various local original bands across the state of Ohio for many years and is very much looking forward to working with Axemaster, saying: “I am honored and excited to be offered the opportunity to join Axemaster, and can’t wait to help bring the new music to the world.”

The band is extremely happy to have found a singer of Geoff’s quality and plan to immediately begin working with him on writing and recording the vocals for the new album. Guitarist Joe Sims said: “From the very beginning I have been impressed with everything about Geoff. He’s a talented singer whose voice fits PERFECTLY with what we do musically. Plus he’s an excellent songwriter, has a great attitude, and is really easy to work with. It’s the kind of unique combination you always hope to find in a singer, or any band member for that matter.” His style has already been praised by a prominent European contact who heard Geoff’s audition demo recording and said: “What I really think is important is: his voice matches perfectly with the band’s dark riffs. Also I think his vocals sound quite unique which is also a great advantage. I think this will be well-received over here.”

Also a longtime and avid guitar player, Geoff intends to attempt to double his duties within Axemaster and take on the second guitar position as well. Once he finishes recording all the vocal tracks for the new album the band will seriously look into this possibility.

With all the right pieces in place and having overcome many obstacles, Axemaster now looks toward a bright future of finishing the release and putting the show on the road live!!!!!!

-Babyjane – MAKE IT SICK (Produced By Michael Wagener & Featuring John Corabi)

Please find below the text press info for the group’s brand new CD MAKE IT SICK (produced by Michael Wagener).

Band: Babyjane
Album Title: MAKE IT SICK
Label: Unsigned
Street Date: Out Now!
Genre: Hard Rock

Babyjane, Australia’s most explosive hard rock act, have come out of the rusty gate with all guns blazing…

Andy Smith (no singer comes closer to the swagger of Jagger and the presence of Plant than THIS one); John Gerasolo (rock’s next guitar hero — forget the Top Hat); Paul Judge (a moody Sid Vicious who can really play the bass) and Nik ‘Animal’ Kats (the bombast of John Bonham meets the terror of Tommy Lee) unleashed their debut scorcher ARE YOU LISTENING in 2011. Mixed by famed German/American producer Michael Wagener (Metallica/Janet Jackson/Ozzy Osbourne/Extreme), it’s hard rock at its absolute best (including “can’t stop singing it” classic “Can You Keep A Secret?”) Rousing support gigs with Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach in 2008 and Iron Maiden’s Paul DiAnno in 2010 left the word on everyone’s lips that Babyjane “are the band to watch.” Recently, they’ve gone from strength to strength — securing airplay on independent American radio, glowing reviews for AYL, regular rotation on WA’s number one radio station 96FM and over 5,000 YouTube views of their video single (“Are You Listening”).

Now, Babyjane have stepped it up a notch. The 11-track second album, MAKE IT SICK, was recorded in Nashville, 2012 with Michael Wagener taking the reigns from start to finish — the end result is what one industry-insider has described as “the most balls-to-the-wall rock album since Guns N’ Roses’ APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION,” with one-time Motley Crue/Union singer John Corabi making a screaming guest appearance on the title track. Collectively, the band are big fans of Motley Crue’s self-titled 1994 album, on which Corabi appeared.

Listeners will hear a grand meeting of the old guard handing the rock n’ roll torch over to the new, collaborating on a storming punk-infused riot. “Nu-Sonic Plague” is a riffed-up time warp of big choruses and a nineties pessimism, a direct assault on the auto-tuned banality of modern pop music. “New York Queen/London Whore” is a rip-roaring biographical account of the infamous Nancy Spungen while “Bad Woman” is an introspective, spiraling trip down the lonely lane of lost love and shattered happiness, with wailing guitars and melancholy vocals. On the other side of the coin is the album’s dark horse “Underground Detention,” a perilous journey through the hellish world of heroin addiction and “Somebody Up There Hates Me” — ironically the album’s most commercial and upbeat track.

#1 rock website Blabbermouth.com made Babyjane front-page news three times (covering Corabi’s appearance and previewing the album) — they are the only Perth rock band do have done so. Featuring a sound only a world-class producer can muster, hugely hooky tracks, and a well-oiled four-piece band behind it, Babyjane are ready to step up to the big league. They continue to ride the rock n’ roll train, writing songs that will see light on the inevitable third album and getting their music as far and wide as possible in an age where it’s all acquired at the click of a button. Road-tested and set for world domination, Babyjane are just gathering steam.

Are you listening? You soon will be…

-Gold: Dutch Contemporary Rock Revelation Deliver Video For Debut LP’s Key Track

Following a triumphant unfurling via German cult label Ván Records in December, The Netherlands’ heavy rock act Gold today proudly unveils the official video for “Antebellum,” the key track for their debut album, INTERBELLUM. Written and directed by Bastiaan Bosma with producer Natasa Heydra, “Antebellum” is an incredibly vibrant track that perfectly lays the groundwork for the rest of Gold’s radiant album through a very unique and colorful artistic video interpretation.

Stated Gold in a collective statement on the creation and inception of the video: “To us, ‘Antebellum’ is the key song of our debut album. Musically it serves as the blueprint of our sound, combining a variety of influences into a fresh and contemporary new entity. Lyrically it takes the metaphor of the calm before the storm to describe a feeling of being out of place in a world that is on the verge of collapsing. Therefore it was a must for us that this would be the first official video of the album. Writer and director Bastiaan Bosma created a video that fits the song perfectly. He approached the theme from his own twisted point of view and created a story about lust and control larded with a tad of sex and a shade of horror.”

View the spectacle that is “Antebellum” with the new video right here:

The entire INTERBELLUM album is also still streaming at rock/metal portal PureGrainAudio.
