At the ripe age of 15, after a very early start in his professional music career recording his first album with the Scorpions and after joining UFO age 17, Michael Schenker focused exclusively on lead guitar and pure self-expression.
The second chapter in his career was focused on experimenting and developing his expertise on a more musical and personal level. With excellent musicians, friends, and fans from all over the world, this live recording is part of this celebration.
Michael Schenker sees his music as a building block in the construction of the Temple Of Rock.
“The Temple Of Rock is almost finished,” explains Michael Schenker. “The foundation was laid in the ’60s by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck, and Cream. In the late ’70s, the pillars were then built by bands like UFO and AC/DC. By the ’80s it was further reinforced by the likes of Judas Priest and the Scorpions, and many other influential rock bands.
“There’s not much new left to expect, but I am glad to be a part of this temple,” says Michael. “It’s unbelievable fun and an honor to share a stage and make music with some of the world’s best musicians.”
A concert from Tilburg, the Netherlands was recorded in May 2012 that noticeably distinguishes itself from previous releases due to the lineup that includes Michael Schenker (lead guitar), Doogie White (vocals), Herman Rarebell (drums), Francis Buchholz (bass), and Wayne Findley (rhythm guitar, keyboards).
In addition to this Tilburg concert, fans can experience extracts from London’s 2011 High Voltage Festival with Michael Voss (vocals), featuring awe-inspiring guest appearances from Schenker’s friends and musical companions including his brother Rudolf Schenker (Scorpions) who plays rhythm guitar on “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” “Hanging On,” and “Doctor Doctor,” UFO’s Pete Way who plays bass guitar on “Doctor Doctor,” and vocalists Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey), and Doogie White, who jointly sing on “Doctor Doctor.”

-Gamma Ray: German Power Metallers To Release SKELETONS & MAJESTIES LIVE CD In North America Next Month
Legendary German power metallers Gamma Ray will unleash SKELETONS & MAJESTIES LIVE as a two-CD set next month via Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records. Set for North American release on December 4, 2012, SKELETONS & MAJESTIES LIVE is a near two-hour magnum opus spanning the band’s history and includes classics as well as tracks which were under-represented to date. A DVD version will be released stateside in January. SKELETONS & MAJESTIES LIVE was recorded and filmed during the band’s 2011 European tour at the legendary Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland and is the first properly HD-filmed live video production of the band’s epic 20+ year career.
“The [2011 released] EP, SKELETONS & MAJESTIES, is practically a continuation of our Skeletons In The Closet concept, in other words: new versions of songs which didn’t receive the attention they deserve, as well as unplugged versions of some of our classics,” notes founding vocalist/guitarist Kai Hansen.
The DVD offers up a thoroughly gripping performance, from the dynamic openers “Anywhere In The Galaxy” and “Men, Martians And Machines” to the furious finale/Helloween cover “Future World.”
As a special bonus, to accompany the Hansen-penned Helloween classic on stage, Gamma Ray enlisted the services of former Helloween frontman Michael Kiske. In addition, Kiske can be heard and seen on “Time To Break Free” and “A While In Dreamland.”
The release of SKELETONS & MAJESTIES LIVE will mark the beginning of an eventful 2013 for Gamma Ray: After Hansen stayed true to his word and spent 2012 concentrating mainly on his second band, Unisonic, he and his three colleagues, guitarist Henjo Richter, bassist Dirk Schlächter, and new addition, drummer Michael Ehré (the Firewind/Love.Might.Kill drummer has replaced Daniel Zimmermann, who left the Gamma Ray fold on friendly terms) are now focusing exclusively on Gamma Ray once again. A co-headlining European tour with Helloween has been scheduled for March and will also mark the arrival of a new Gamma Ray studio recording. Stay tuned for release dates and further details.

Pete Newdeck, UK based drummer, singer, and song writer, who is mostly known for his work with Eden’s Curse and bands like Grim Reaper, Killers, and Steve Grimmett, started writing songs with band mate and friend Ian Nash, also Steve Grimmett’s guitar player in 2009.
Being on tour with Eden’s Curse supporting Scandinavian band Stratovarius and Firewind in May 2009 on their UK tour, Pete and Mark Cross, drummer of Firewind at the time, also Outloud, ex-Helloween, Kingdom Come), became close friends and talked about the idea of forming a new band, only this time with Newdeck as the lead singer.
Newdeck’s vocal abilities were truly convincing and in spring 2010 Pontus Egberg, bass player of Sweden’s rock sensations The Poodles, completed the lineup.
Newdeck, Nash, Cross, and Egberg recorded their debut album in the UK and mixed and mastered it in Germany under the supervision of Dennis Ward, producer of many successful international artists and Tainted Nation was brought to life.

Edge is an exciting new AOR/Melodic Rock band from Karlskoga, Sweden. They started out as a project by two friends sharing the same dream. Having played together in different bands off and on since the mid nineties, Jonas Forss and Tobias Andersson (Shadowland, Seven Wishes) knew each other by heart. Strangely enough they hadn’t written any original tunes together before, even though they had recorded dozens of covers in different shapes and forms.
About two years ago Jonas came to Tobias’ house with an idea for a song and the rest as they say is history. “We found our sound almost immediately. It was as we hadn’t done anything else but writing songs together. It all felt very natural, as it was meant to be…” They both agreed upon writing an album without compromise. No account to what others might think, just the album they both wanted to hear; melodic, interesting harmonies, variation, power, and depth. The songs should mean something and speak for themselves.
Their own brand of melodic hard rock derives from lots of different influences ranging from classical music to metal and beyond. “We always loved music where real musicians actually play for the song and not for themselves if you know what I mean,” Jonas states. “Yeah, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t shred from time to time,” Tobias adds, “but always within the context of the song of course. ;-)”
The two guys recorded 12 songs on their own but felt there was something missing, that extra ingredient to take it over the cliff so to speak: Musicians!!! They knew exactly who to call. Torbjörn Brogren (Heads Or Tales) and Olle Rodehn (Shadowland) both accepted with a smile and contributed a great deal to the final sound of the album. “They added the extra depth and live feeling we needed so we decided to re-record everything and Edge, the band was born.”
Soon after they finished up in the studio they started pitching for a record deal. “It all happened very fast. We sent one song to five different labels and four of them wanted to sign us right away which felt very good indeed. Escape Music in England pulled the longest straw because of their genuine interest in our music and passion to the industry as a whole.” HEAVEN KNOWS is the title of their debut album, and What A Way To Start the New Year 2013!

It is the ceaseless passion between two beings; passion that unites before it destroys anything around it once unleashed. It is true we are nothing when it comes to sustaining our gratefulness in front of desire. We are born broken in a dilute world poets’ admiration cannot disguise. And none can break the broken.”
CASSIOPEIA will be released the 18th of January, 2013 via Metal Blade Records in Europe!
The recordings for CASSIOPEIA took place in four different places, something Nightfall is quite familiar with. Vocals and keys were recorded in Greece (Soundflakes studios & Cyberia) while the drums got hammered down in Germany in the Soundlodge studios. Guitars and bass were recorded in the US in Nashville, Tennessee in the Boomcave studios.
More than on the previous album ASTRON BLACK & THE THIRTY TYRANTS, in CASSIOPEIA the spirit of old school Heavy Metal larks in almost every riff, with Mercyful Fate’s and King Diamond’s guitar style having its top notch, always the Nightfall way.

Nervosa has announced the departure of drummer Fernanda Terra due to personal reasons and incompatibility of ideas. The band’s new drummer will be Jully Lee. Despite this change in the lineup, Nervosa’s future plans will not be affected, and the band will hit the studio in January to record their debut album. The release is scheduled for May 2013!

Italian hard rockers Voodoo Highway have signed a two-album deal with the German label Dust On The Tracks Records. Work on the band’s second LP, SHOWDOWN, is completed and its worldwide release is scheduled for March 2013. Audio samples of the forthcoming second album, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below:
The new album was produced/mixed by Italian producer team Dysfunction Productions (Anthony Phillips, John Wetton, Logan Mader, etc.) and mastered by US senior mastering engineer Ue Nastasi (Gojira, AC/DC, Lamb Of God, Anthrax, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc.) from Sterling Sound Studios. The album artwork for the effort feature the hand of UK graphic designer Mr. Storm Thorgerson, who has previously worked with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Audioslave, among many others.
After the lucky outset of their first album BROKEN UNCLE’S INN back in 2011, the band is ready to strike the world with a massive amount of rock n’ roll once again.

-Axemaster Album Update
In our last update letter we mentioned that technical problems were delaying the production of the new Axemaster album. As it turned out, the problems with the studio computer were rather serious as it had to be completely wiped clean and have a new operating system as well as a new version of the multi-track program installed. Everything had been backed up so fortunately all the original sound files were saved. However, all the original multi-track templates (through which each song is mixed) are no longer able to be used and many of the audio effects levels (as well as some of the audio effects themselves) were totally lost. So for a while now the majority of work has gone to building new templates for each song and completely re-mixing them. There is still a lot of work to be done at this, it’s a long and difficult process, but progress is slowly being made.
We hope everyone understands the reasons that it’s taking a while for this album to be produced. But rest assured, no matter how much work, time, and effort it takes to finish this project, the new Axemaster album WILL be a reality. We ask for everyone’s patience as this will be by far the best Axemaster release to date, it will just take some time!!!!!!

At close of business EDT December 12, 2012 Diskery.com, the iconic and omni-present music retailer will close its doors forever, just shy of its 15th anniversary.
Started in December of 1997 Diskery.com was one of the first pioneering retailers to sell music online. Back then it was state of the art with a modern dynamic database, music samples, photographs, accepted every credit card going, and delivered the goods lightning fast. After several modifications and upgrades it continued on through the years expanding its distribution and catalog, reaching its height as the crown jewels of parent company Emperor Multimedia Corporation in 2006.
Since then it has been a struggle says company president and founder Derek McDonald, “Diskery was one of the first to sell music online but this business is a fickle one and since then it has been a struggle. As of late we have had the perfect storm with CD sales on a free fall decline, music piracy continues uncontrolled, world economies in recession, and the ever present relentless drive of new technology makes this a difficult trade. In order to continue we would need to invest a massive amount of capitol and time to re-write our computer code, upgrade the servers, obtain new warehousing, you name it! Selling MP3s is out as Apple cornered that market, vinyl was not recovered to its former levels, cassettes are all but gone, and CDs are on the way out. Invest all of that effort to sell what? With this knowledge we were forced to conclude that perhaps we should get out while we still can.”
Diskery is one of a handful of music e-tailers who never charged artists a fee to join their system, and furthermore there has never been a big named commercial artist in the database; it was a system for indies by indies and with its closure so goes one of the last independent online retainers in Canada and one of a declining stock in the world.
With the closure of Diskery it leaves Emperor Multimedia with only one other investment in music as all other divisions were sold off or closed. Diskery.com for its part will be re-purposed for use by the soon to be renamed RRCA (to now be called “Diskery Music Archives”), and Emperor Multimedia will progress to new projects.
All sales transacted by close of business December 12, 2012 will be honored. All artists who have work on sale at Diskery are asked to contact: mcdonaldd02@gmail.com or by postal letter to the corporate HQ by December 31 to arrange collection of their unsold wares. Italy’s Southern hard rock act Tombstone Highway is to release a debut studio album entitled RURALIZER on the February 26th, 2013 in Europe/UK and March 19th, 2013 in the USA on Agonia Records. Album details are available below.
The music of Tombstone Highway is a classic blend of feisty stoner/Southern rock and doom metal, with catchy guitar solos and old-school heavy metal parts that may remind of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Corrison Of Conformity, Pride And Glory, Down, Black Sabbath, or even ZZ Top riffage. Apart from hard rock instruments, the band uses also a banjo and Hammond organs.
RURALIZER will consist of eight original songs and a cover of Mountain’s “Mississippi Queen,” with a playing time of almost 50 minutes and will be made available on digi-pak CD and digital download. It was recorded at Elfo Studios by Daniele Mandelli, who is also in charge of mix and mastering.
The band commented: “We’re very proud of how the album came out, and we strongly believe it’s the perfect way to begin our legacy. People into heavy, ballsy Southern-tinged hard rock should take note!”

Candlelight Records today confirms the worldwide signing of Demon Lung. The Las Vegas-based quartet, featuring guitarist Phil Burns, bassist Patrick Warren, drummer Jeremy Brenton, and vocalist Shanda Fredrick, is scheduled to begin recording of their full-length debut at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California with producer Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Eyehategod) in the coming weeks. Metal Hammer called the band’s self-released four-song demo PAREIDOLIA, “earthy yet horror-themed doom metal a la Candlemass with an Acrimony Groove.” The magazine calls Fredrick a “wild-eyed, satanic songstress.” Popular music and film site Ave Noctum notes, “Demon Lung has a deft touch and solid sound. Their music is clearly from the soul.
