Dear friends,
At last I would like to clarify some facts about my voice with all the sincerity, humility and integrity that I may have.
For over 20 years I have worked without a day off in the Heavy Metal style, and we all know how difficult and technically demanding it is. Joining Angra I had to fit a particularly high way of singing, which was totally out of my range, and of the vast majority of the singers! At the time I took the responsibility and faced all the pressure. But 10 years ago it was much easier due to the physical factor, excitement and age. I started to feel, year after year, gradually, the difficulties of singing something so high and out of my natural trait. I fought to the end! I did everything possible to continue to sing the songs, particularly the old ones, always in high pitches, because the melodic metal audience has ever “demanded” this of us singers. But unfortunately, today, older and more experienced, I assume that I am no longer able to sing so high. I am extremely tired and feeling the weight of all that in my voice, including the region that has always been the most comfortable for me! I’m a baritone singer who dominates the mediums and lows, with drive, singing with a more aggressive chest voice, as I did in Symbols and do in Almah. I have conquered many things and built much of my story with my own style.
Therefore, I made a decision, thinking only and exclusively about the health of my voice and integrity of my career, which I have built with so much struggle and dedication. After fulfilling all the promotional activities of MOTION, scheduled until the end of the year, I will stop indefinitely to finally rest and be able to deal properly with my health. But I have to point out that from today on I’ll just sing whatever is in my natural range, be it in Angra or any other band, for my own good! I want to be who I really am, instead of being what people want me to be! In the meantime, I’ll continue with my activities as a producer and composer, which are things I love doing, and will not harm at all the progress of my recovery.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the fans who always supported me and defend me unconditionally! I will always do my best writing and singing good music for you guys, with all my truth and emotion! This is the first step to a new time in my life! I have confidence in the future and will always be passionate about the greatest music ever, HEAVY METAL!

-Gotthard: Steve Lee’s Dream Will Live On
Day of death has its first anniversary on the 5th of October — Steve will live on through the live album HOMEGROWN and the continuation of the US bike tour.
LUGANO — Gotthard will release the long-since announced and highly anticipated live album entitled HOMEGROWN – ALIVE IN LUGANO on the 30th of September. The album comes out only a few days before the first anniversary of Steve Lee’s day of death on the 5th of October. At the same time, bassist Marc Lynn has already travelled to the USA to follow Lee’s dream through: in commemoration of the exceptional artist he will drive along the route again that was planned one year ago, together with the other friends that were present on the fateful day in 2010.
Together with Marc Lynn, his wife Anja and 18 other friends, the helmet that Steve Lee wore to the last will go on the journey with them. Lee had bought him shortly before his death in the USA and wore him on his last day. Since then, it acts as a memento for his parents — now it’ll go on a motorbike trip one last time, in place of Steve Lee. “The trip shall help us digesting the inexplicable and finally putting Steve’s death behind ourselves,” states bassist Lynn. “We’ll remember him, cry over him and for sure will be able to laugh at many a beautiful memories.”
The album HOMEGROWN – ALIVE IN LUGANO that will be released on the 30th of September also bears witness to strong amicable ties. It contains audio footage of the concert that took place on the 17th of July in Lugano, which was recorded over the course of the band’s concert in their hometown. It was one of the last concerts with Steve Lee.
“Music has allowed us to travel round the whole world together during the last 20 years,” guitarist Leo Leoni summarizes. “In doing so, we’ve shared lots of unforgettable moments that rank among the best times of our lives. Anyhow, returning to Lugano has always been something special. It’s the place we belong to and where we have strong and deep roots.”
HOMEGROWN – ALIVE IN LUGANO marks the end of an era for Gotthard. Currently, the band is searching for a new singer and will soon start a new chapter in the band’s history.
Meanwhile, Marc Lynn and his companions experience what has always been Steve Lee’s dream: riding the motorcycle through the Southern states of the US for two weeks. He was only able to live this dream for 1,000 kilometers. “We owe him bringing this ambition to an end now,” comments Marc Lynn. “That trip has really been his biggest dream.”

Richard Christy, Tim “Ripper” Owens, Jason Suecof and Steve DiGiorgio once again joined forces to bring to life Christy’s latest body of work, COLD WINDS ON TIMELESS DAYS. The writing process for the new album actually began while the band was mixing their 2010 debut. Richard Christy used his experience on the first album to write songs that catered not only to each member’s playing style, but to Jason Suecof’s production style. The result: demos that turned out nearly identical to what ended up on the album.
With 12 songs clocking in at 58 minutes, fans are getting a lot more music this time around. Recording 12 songs in a short amount of time is no easy feat, but one that was accomplished because of the stellar talents in the band. Christy elaborates further; “I wanted to get a natural sound out of this album, I wanted everyone to be well rehearsed, not that I wanted the album to be rushed, but I wanted the spontaneous live feel and not over think anything too much.” Richard Christy describes COLD WINDS ON TIMELESS DAYS as a “perfect storm of producing” — Audiohammer’s Jason Suecof produced and Mark Lewis mixed, while mastering was handled by Alan Douches at West Westside.

Christy’s approach to this record was that he wanted a more organic and spontaneous sounding album. Amazingly, drums were recorded in a mere two days and the video is evidence to his ability to record the songs in an entire, contiguous take.

I wanted to share this information about a new progressive rock festival we have started here in the US which sees Nightingale return to the USA for OhioProg 2012, Ohio’s premiere progressive rock festival. A total of eleven bands from five countries including Arena, Persephone’s Dream, FM and more. It will be held September 7, 8 & 9 of 2012 at the Canton Palace Theatre in Canton, Ohio.

“We managed to stop others from making a big fuss about it, and didn’t give in to the numerous offers and suggestions on how we should cash in on it! But it has made us appreciate the opportunities we’ve been given since 1986, and that we’ve been able to do everything we wanted to do without compromising in any way. We’ve been lucky enough to have played a lot of killer shows with great bands and met a lot of very cool people over the years, and we think that’s the stuff that deserves some kind of celebration.

ERSATZ G.B. is the new studio album from The Fall, the 29th in their impressive canon. As with any Fall recording, ERSATZ G.B. retains many of the group’s most distinctive elements, whilst offering a fresh take on Mark E. Smith’s familiar style and subject matter.
The lineup on the album remains the same as for the last few Fall releases: Peter Greenway (lead guitar), Keiron Melling (drums), Elena Poulou (keyboards, vocals), Mark E. Smith (vocals) and David Spurr (bass).
ERSATZ G.B. is The Fall’s first album for Cherry Red Records and it will be released on CD, limited edition vinyl and digital formats, preceded by a double A-side 7″ single.
There aren’t very many groups that have been together longer than The Fall and it’s difficult to think of any who, like The Fall, have released brand new material almost every year. Formed at the height of the punk rock movement in Manchester in 1976, The Fall is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. The group’s music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years but it is often characterized by an abrasive, guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition, and is always underpinned by Smith’s distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics.
The Fall were long associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed the group from the very early days and often cited them as his favorite group, famously opining, “they are always different; they are always the same.”

Filmed on location in Switzerland, guitarist Igor Omodei gives us an insight to the imagery behind the video: “The track ‘Awaken’ takes place at the very beginning of the album, it’s the start of a journey. The music video is meant to metaphorically re-transcribe this and to help the viewer get acquainted with the physical representation of the FEBRUUS universe, visual codes and characters.”
Filmed over two days on location in Switzerland by Patrick Haberli (Proghippie.com) and Christophe Mosconi (Qatlaq), the concept, artwork and post production was completed by guitarist Igor Omodei.
