-Judas Priest Release THE CHOSEN FEW This October

Judas Priest
Release date: Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

“Priest has always meant one thing — take no prisoners. For decades. Across one continent to the next, they have never wavered in their commitment to treating the Stage as Holy Ground…”
– Gene Simmons, Kiss

Sony Music are proud to announce the release of a unique Judas Priest album. THE CHOSEN FEW is an album curated by Judas Priest’s contemporaries in the music world — each artist picking their own favorite Priest track and explaining why it is special to them. Included are legends such as Ozzy Osbourne, James Hetfield, Alice Cooper, Joe Elliott, Slash, Lemmy, Kerry King and Corey Taylor. All build an album from the very best of Judas Priest — from 1977’s “Diamonds And Rust” through to 1990’s “Painkiller.” A selection of excerpts are below:

Lars Ulrich, Metallica – “Beyond The Realms Of Death”
“The blueprint for the epic rock ballad. Copied thousands of times, never eclipsed.”

Ozzy Osbourne – “The Ripper”
“This has always been one of my favorite Judas Priest songs… I just want to know what the f*ck that note is that Rob Halford hits in the beginning of the song. F*cking hell!! That note is probably just below what only dogs can hear.”

Alice Cooper – “Living After Midnight”
“For a metal band, Priest has always used tons of melody… when you have a singer as great as Rob Halford, you have to write great riffs WITH great melodies, you can’t just have riffs. ‘Living After Midnight’ is the perfect example…”

Slash – “Screaming For Vengeance”
“Judas Priest have put out their fair share of great albums to be sure. But my all time favorite is SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE. It was and still is, one of the best metal records ever produced and the title track is in my humble opinion, still ahead of its time.”

Corey Taylor, Slipknot – “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming”
“Judas Priest: the blueprint for the ultimate heavy metal band…”

-Michael Schenker’s TEMPLE OF ROCK To Be Released On CD And LP October 11, 2011 Via MVD Entertainment Group

US Tour Dates With Uli Jon Roth And Leslie West Set For October

Michael Schenker, a true purveyor first-class hard guitar rock, is set to release the aptly titled TEMPLE OF ROCK on October 11 on CD, digital formats, and vinyl. He will also be touring with Uli Jon Roth and Leslie West on the 3 Guitar Heroes tour (complete schedule below).

The list of Schenker’s successes is extensive… As a young man he lent his very special sound, together with his brother Rudolf, to the Scorpions, which later made the band one of the first real international hard rock stars from Germany. In the ’70s, he similarly helped the British rock legends UFO to their definitive breakthrough, turning songs like “Rock Bottom” or “Doctor, Doctor” into hits everyone knows.

In 1980, it was time for him to form the first band of his own… The Michael Schenker Group, or MSG for short. Some of the world’s best musicians were assembled, cavorting with founding members such as Gary Barden, Don Airey or Simon Phillips. Not forgetting that no one less that Roger Glover from Deep Purple manned the production console for the first record. Since then, the three letters MSG have become a synonym for honest, hand-crafted and impelling premium hard rock.

Now, after extensive touring, and following a well-earned rest, Schenker has returned with his group to add a new jewel to his creative work. Names such as Pete Way, Wayne Findlay, Neil Murray and Chris Slade still represent the highest of standards and get aficionados’ heartbeats racing. One of the biggest treats is his collaboration with the former Scorpions drummer, Herman “the German” Rarebell, as well as his beloved brother Rudolf. And yet the list is even longer with Doogie White (former member of Rainbow), super drummer Carmine Appice and Elliott Tichy. However the one name missing in 2011 is Gary Barden. Michael Voss, the new vocalist, is more than “just” a replacement. The experienced producer and singer showed just what he is capable of during the last MSG tour.

Schenker says:

“The Temple of Rock is within me where I create since I was introduced to the amazing invention of the distorted Guitar which is for me the most enjoyable and the best possible way to express myself. The Rock Guitar Sound that I fell in love with, mostly expressed as Lead break, is what I have nurtured and treasured all of my life. Combined with the infinite spring from within and the amazing musicians around me I keep expressing an ongoing development of my Art (Being). With TEMPLE OF ROCK I am entering a new stage of my life, a new level of existence enjoying life more than ever, reaping the joy of all sorts of developments from the past.

“Also, it seems to me that collectively, with true expressive makers of Rock Music, we have been building the external Temple Of Rock for many years and have now come to the point of putting on the roofing and celebrating the almost completion of the Temple. All generations of this period are meeting all over the world on one stage it seems celebrating an Era of ‘Hand Made Rock’ which will never be the same again due to invention of new technology but of course New Temples and New Wonders will arise to enjoy expressions in new ways.”

-Six Years In The Making… At Long Last Mecca II UNDENIABLE Is Scheduled For Release!

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of Mecca’s anticipated second album UNDENIABLE on November 4th in Europe and January 10th, 2012 in North America.

Six years in the making UNDENIABLE is the culmination of hard work, blood, sweat and tears. Rewind to 2002: the Melodic Rock community is taken by storm by the debut album of a new band named Mecca. Formed by vocalist Joe Vana, he enlisted, among others, the services of former Toto members David Hungate (bass) and Fergie Frederiksen on vocals and close friend and former Survivor founding member Jim Peterik, who contributed masterfully to the songwriting and production of the album.

MECCA created a sonic treasure bringing the energy to drive diamond-hard rockers and the finesse to create lush power ballads, all with the texture that, until now, only super-groups such as Journey, Toto or Foreigner could provide. Amazing press responses blessed the album’s release and Joe Vana soon started putting together plans for a follow-up album. “I wanted a BAND sound, like the old days where all the guys played together in the room,” tells Joe. “We came very close to doing just that… PLUS, I wanted an album Jim Peterik would hear and be proud that he worked so hard mentoring me for so many years. I had a challenge.”

Songwriting started in 2005 between Vana and Swedish guitarist Christian Wolff. In 2007 things really took a groundbreaking turn with the songwriting masterpieces that Vana wrote with Swedish Producer/Songwriter/Guitarist Tommy Denander. Vana said: “The writing synergy between Tommy and I has been amazing, we think so much alike in terms of melody and space but sounds very different melodically than what we both have done separately, so it truly is a union of ideas…” The musical direction soon showed that new heights in Melodic Rock music could be reached. “Since Tommy and Christian were my co-writers,” continues Vana, “I had parts of theirs from when we wrote the tunes that were stellar and it integrated wonderfully.”

Several problems created bumps in the road, including the death of Vana’s longtime friend and co-producer / engineer Bryan Mitchell which made the completion of the recording process extremely slow. Joe explains: “It took a lot of time to build the right team to produce with me, Mark Alano and Chuck Macak and to get the right combination of guys. I had an opportunity to hand pick a band and I was not going to ruin that! I know I was getting killed on the Internet, but I needed to make sure it was ALL correct. The music had to be able to carry the melodies and the lyrical content I had written, this album had to flow correctly and I had a vision sonically I wanted as well… it was not an easy road… and as far as the songs themselves, it is the best writing Tommy Denander and Christian Wolff have done. They were SO EASY to write with and we make a GREAT team!”

Vana enlisted the talents of session masters such as Pat Mastellotto (King Crimson, Mr. Mister) and Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), along with Denander and Wolff. His core band was also created around Rick Vitek on drums, Brian Moritz on keyboards, Wally Hustin on bass, Eric Ragno on keyboards, Mark Alano on guitar and Joe’s ace in the hole… his son Joey on guitars and backing vocals.

Fast forward to 2011. Mecca II UNDENIABLE is finally completed and delivered. The results are breathtaking. According to Vana: “This is a thinking man’s record with a lot of Chicago AOR, Prog and a good dose of West Coast thrown in! You can listen to the album 10 times, and will hear different things each time…” An album which perfectly melts the outstanding High-Tech AOR approach of Mr. Mister’s WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD to the commercial sheer brilliance of Toto’s THE SEVENTH ONE. Oh and… the good news is that Mecca III is underway!

If Mecca I was born to unveil the treasures of the Melodic Rock genre to the unsuspecting public, then Mecca II UNDENIABLE sets in stone the gospel of this music with stunning arrangements and unbelievable melodies. Mecca is now here to stay… get converted to their music!!!

UNDENIABLE track listing includes:
Perfect World; Closing Time; 10life; Life’s Too Short; I Know; Did It For Love; From The Start; Deceptive Cadence; W2W; Undeniable; As I Walk Alone.

The first single — the title track “Undeniable” — can be streamed in full on the Frontiers Records web radio at http://www.frontiers.it/webradio .

-Flametal’s New Flamenco-Metal Masterpiece VISION Out Now On Flametal Records

Special Guests: Steve Stevens (Bily Idol), Marc Rizzo (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy), Glen Drover (ex-Megadeth, ex-King Diamond), Sean Reinert (Cynic, ex-Death), Uriah Duffy (ex-Whitesnake) And More

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Flametal guitarist Benjamin Woods releases his latest masterpiece VISION on Flametal Records. This defies all expectations of an instrumental metal guitar album. “I’ve always thought of Flamenco Guitar Music as kind of like ‘Acoustic Progressive Metal,’ so with this album, I really expanded upon that idea.” says Woods. In a world of clones and “guitar shredder” albums, this goes way beyond the beaten path.

Listen now: http://www.wix.com/benwoods66/vision

This Flamenco-Metal masterpiece features Marc Rizzo (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy), Glen Drover (ex-Megadeth, ex-King Diamond), Sean Reinert (Cynic, ex-Death), Steve Stevens (Bily Idol), Uriah Duffy (ex-Whitesnake) and more.

Woods is a new breed of virtuoso and a speed metal guitarist from the start. By a twist of fate Woods gear was stolen by a junkie, leaving him with only a Spanish Guitar to practice on. This was the defining moment that ignited a passion for Flamenco Guitar. After spending years studying and performing authentic Flamenco, Woods created the genre-bending group Flametal, earning him an international reputation as the master of Flamenco and Metal. Playing Metal without a pick, or distortion would seem impossible to most, but through his training and creativity, Woods is the first and only musician to successfully combine real Flamenco and Metal. Here he pays tribute to some of his favorite metal tunes, played in the Flamenco idiom, with traditional accompaniment.

Woods’ raw energy combined with exotic and sophisticated acoustic playing and the talent of a new-generation shred-master is a much needed breath of fresh air to the instrumental rock genre.

-Nightwish: IMAGINAERUM Release Date, Cover & Track List

Nightwish’s new album IMAGINAERUM will be released in Finland on 30th of November. The rest of Europe will follow on 2nd of December.

The cover artwork:
“Originally, this was supposed to be the centerfold image of the album but once I and some mates saw the final image, we immediately knew that the hunt for the actual cover artwork was over. I believe this is Toxic Angel’s finest piece of work yet, capturing the deepest essence of what IMAGINAERUM is all about. The power of imagination and places of wordless wonders, magic and awe, of longing and the surreal.

“I emphasized from the start that not a single living thing should be seen in the picture, and Toxic was able to create that sublime but desolate, ‘all this waiting for you, and you only’ feeling.

“All you need is the courage to enter.”
– Tuomas

The track list:
1. Taikatalvi
2. Storytime
3. Ghost River
4. Slow, Love, Slow
5. I Want My Tears Back
6. Scaretale
7. Arabesque
8. Turn Loose The Mermaids
9. Rest Calm
10. The Crow, The Owl And The Dove
11. Last Ride Of The Day

Track-by-Track teasers:
“Men profess to be lovers of music, but for the most part they give no evidence in their opinions and lives that they have heard it.” – Henry David Thoreau

1. Taikatalvi
This world is but a canvas for our imagination.

2. Storytime
How would it feel to take a midnight flight with a snowman through the most wondrous landscapes, like in the classic animated Yuletide film? The meaning of our very existence is created though stories, tales and imagination. They are at the very core of humanity.

3. Ghost River
LIFE is the ultimate privilege; a river filled with wonders and horrors. Love, sorrow, beauty, evil and temptation. And we need them all to survive and enjoy the journey.
Good, Evil, Pain and Pleasure — members one of another.

4. Slow, Love, Slow
Truest love needs no words, demands or promises. It is wordless territory, and thoroughly unconditional.

5. I Want My Tears Back
Longing for things long gone, but still possible to bring back.

6. Scaretale
Monsters in the closet, squealing pigs, hordes of spiders and flesh-ripping harpies. A peak into childhood’s unforgettable nightmares — a vivid and twisted circus sideshow.

7. Arabesque
A catharsis to a nightmare. Giving birth through a death-dance.

8. Turn Loose The Mermaids
We quietly witness as her dying loved one takes his last journey… forever now, a haunting moment of beauty and comfort.

9. Rest Calm
Memories and hope are two things no-one can ever take away from you. The sweetness of my own past is a bottomless chest of comfort and inspiration.

10. The Crow, The Owl And The Dove

Napalm Records: Streaming Sites

In light of recent events, we would like to announce that Napalm Records will no longer offer its products via streaming sites such as Spotify, Simfy, etc. As previously reported on various online publications, the income generated through streaming is so insignificant that neither we, as a record company, nor our artists are able to further support this method of distribution. We have absolutely nothing against innovative software or new methods of distribution, but do object to price models that endanger our existence and that of our bands. We hope that our customers and fans will understand the necessity of this decision. If possible, we will continue to offer snippet versions via streaming sites, enabling fans to preview two songs of our current and upcoming releases.

Nemesea: Album Update

Nemesea issued an extensive update with regard to their upcoming album! Fans may find the update at http://www.nemesea.com/ ! THE QUIET RESISTANCE will be released in November 2011! More details and a new song will be available soon!

Three New Releases From Napalm Records

November coming fire — Napalm Records is here to scorch your socks off with three new releases just in time for Halloween! Isole’s BORN FROM SHADOWS, Lonely Kamel’s DUST DEVIL, and Visions Of Atlantis’ MARIA MAGDALENA MCD are all set for North American release through Napalm on October 25th.

With their first releases, Isole was able to secure an excellent reputation within the doom metal underground. They have now elevated their status even further with their last two albums, BLISS OF SOLITUDE and SILENT RUINS. Their current work, BORN FROM SHADOWS, impressively maintains their well-earned position and lays any doubts as to their superiority to rest. The Swedish quartet understands more than any other band how to effectively merge hypnotic melodies with viscous guitar lines. The album’s main focus is undeniably the heavy riffs, but occasional digressions into more aggressive realms, where growls and vicious drumming reign, also find their niche. As such, even the epic tracks remain tantalizing and require one’s complete attention, so as not to miss the fine details of this musical tristesse. The dark euphonious landscapes relate the third part of the “Moonstone Trilogy,” which dates back to the band’s debut. The story of an endless struggle between good and evil couldn’t have found a better soundtrack than that of BORN FROM SHADOWS. The four Swedes guarantee genuine and essential doom metal. Get it now and lose yourself!

Lonely Kamel – DUST DEVIL
Lonely Kamel’s third album proves once again that it is absolutely not necessary to be surrounded by desert sands and cacti in order to produce genuine stoner rock. The four Norwegians are living proof of this fact, and don’t stop there. With the release of DUST DEVIL, they unquestionably provide the genre with a refreshing brand of unrelenting and passionate dedication. The opening two tracks, “Grim Reefer” and “Evil Man,” reveal the road on which Lonely Kamel will travel. It offers much more than typical stoner riffs and captivating rhythms, adding sing-along choruses and hypnotic melodies to its winding course. Short trips to the world of blues and psychedelic round off this unforgettable journey by ensuring a welcomed change of pace. DUST DEVIL is the Nordic alternative to the desert sands, and for fans of the stoner rock genre a definite must-have!

Visions Of Atlantis – MARIA MAGDALENA
Visions Of Atlantis first embarked on their musical journey over 10 years ago. Now, with their latest album DELTA, they deliver an impressive mix of epic power and pure emotion. Their recent tour in support of this release couldn’t have been more successful. Not only did the band members, including new vocalist Maxi Nil, win over countless new fans, but they also grew closer together, as is evident in the band’s latest MCD, which offers five brand-new songs, as well as one re-recording. Visions Of Atlantis empowers the opening track, an epic symphonic version of Sandra’s “Maria Magdalena,” while capturing the original spirit of the ’80s hit. The vocal duet comprising Maxi Nil and Mario Plank give the song a welcomed dynamic. “Melancholia,” “Change Of Tides,” and “Distant Shores” uncover the band’s orchestrally appealing style, while the re-recording of “Last Shut Of Your Eyes” and “Beyond Horizon” wind this work down with a soulful and dreamy edge. MARIA MAGDALENA presents yet another side to Visions Of Atlantis’ magical creative spectrum and will certainly influence the band’s future journey, wherever it may take them.

First New Studio Album In 11 Years

Fall Tour Begins Sept. 23 In Boston

Preview and buy at iTunes:

Also available at all Target stores for $7.99

LISTEN to the album in its entirety:

GREEN NAUGAHYDE was produced and engineered by Les Claypool in his personal studio, Rancho Relaxo, in Northern California, and features Claypool, long-time guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Jay Lane. Lane was in an early lineup of the band, and was also in Sausage, a 1994 reunion of the 1988 Primus lineup. GREEN NAUGAHYDE expands on Primus’ incomparable sound and also sees them bringing it into the next millennium. It is a cerebral and complex album that, like all of the band’s output, is teeming with the band’s signature blend of whimsy and underlying darkness.

For the past 27 years, Primus have followed in the footsteps of boundary-pushing artists like Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd to create some of the most original and inventive music in existence. GREEN NAUGAHYDE is a Primus record with all of the magic and mystery that phrase entails — and while no one can say for sure what the future will hold in store for the band, the most important thing is that the album exists and will inevitably hold its own in the band’s impressive canon of music.

Says Claypool, “If I were to look at all of our records, it seems like this is reminiscent of the early stuff. Obviously, with Jay there’s a newness to it, but because he left the band right before we recorded our first record, his approach has an eerie harkening to the old FRIZZLE FRY days.”

-Anubis Gate Streaming Entire New Album On Metal Insider!

Anubis Gate’s highly anticipated self-titled album will be released this coming Tuesday September 13th on Nightmare Records. MetalInsider.net is currently streaming the album in its entirety at:

As an added Bonus to Anubis Gate fans, the new album will be available for digital download on iTunes at a special price of only $4.99.

The music of Anubis Gate: Stylistically Anubis Gate is conglomeration of the classic ’80s heavy metal, a more epic ’90s ambience and a dark progressiveness of our days. You could describe it as metal with beautiful soundscapes, cool riffing, and a clear and powerful vocal performance.

The new album, titled simply ANUBIS GATE, is the most beautiful album the band has yet emerged with. The songwriting, which has always been the core of the “Anubis Gate sound,” stands stronger than ever. This time emphasized by the fact that Henrik Fevre, who was largely responsible for writing the vocals on the previous albums, gets to sing the songs he wrote himself, injecting the emotion and meaning into the lyrics that he had in mind when writing them.

ANUBIS GATE isn’t an album that’s about endless keyboard/guitar unison soloing. It’s all about the songs. From the classic Anubis Gate opener “Hold Back Tommorow” to the melancholic, but very crunchy, “The Re-formation Show,” this album displays Anubis Gate at the top of their game while in no way rehashing their last two albums. Quite to the contrary, this album sees the band taking new turns whilst retaining the core of all the albums that came before.

Track List:
1. Hold Back Tomorrow
2. The Re-Formation Show
3. Facing Dawn
4. World In A Dome
5. Desiderio Omnibus
6. Oh My Precious Life
7. Golden Days
8. Telltale Eyes
9. River
10. Circumstanced

-Led Zeppelin 2 To Kick Off Fall Tour; Live Video Footage Posted

Led Zeppelin 2 are readying to kick off their Fall tour in Boston on September 15th! The band will make their way through several major cities throughout October and November (including some recently added dates listed below), captivating audiences with their flawless Led Zeppelin reenactment.

Rather than a “greatest hits” show, Bruce Lamont — most widely recognized for his saxophone and vocal work fronting Chicago-based Yakuza — and his cohorts allow fans to experience Zeppelin as Zeppelin would have played in front of an audience. LZ2 sold-out venues across the US in 2010 and the early part of 2011 and continue to draw rave reviews for a “spot-on” Zeppelin show, playing deep cuts and classic tracks from the entire catalog, and occasionally entire Led Zeppelin performances from specific shows and sets from the band’s storied history.

“…the best Zep band going anywhere.” — Time Out New York

“There are a lot of Zep tributes out there, but this one’s our favorite, not least because its members fully immerse themselves in the musicianship and style of the four classic-rock heavyweights. That Yakuza howler Bruce Lamont does a mean Robert Plant is icing on the cake.” — Time Out Chicago

“…these imitators get the Led out in a way your battered copy of PHYSICAL GRAFFITI never will, right down to the unearthly tones of guitarist Paul Kamp’s bowed Les Paul solos. Sure, purists are still holding out for the real deal’s tour, but even if that happens, it’s doubtful that Robert Plant can wail the opening lines of ‘Black Dog’ as well as his Led Zeppelin 2 counterpart, Bruce Lamont,” — The Onion

“The band is on its way out of the minor leagues, and is now playing bigger venues for a generation of fans too young to have ever experienced the genuine article.” — The New Yorker

“…these guys sound f*cking exactly like Led Zeppelin!” — Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett

“…the closest thing to seeing the real Led Zeppelin.” — Dallas Observer

“…such authentic raw flair, the entire crowd bought it, no questions lingering… It was nasty… hard to believe how balls-out fantastic they are.” — Atlanta’s Backstage Beat

“Bruce Lamont and Paul Kamp (of Yakuza and Busker Soundcheck fame, respectively) and the killer rhythm section of Ian Lee and Chris Klein bill themselves as Led Zeppelin 2, and they do as good a Zep as Zep ever did back in the day.” — The Chicago Sun Times

-Last week I reviewed Saxon’s excellent new album, CALL TO ARMS, and said “Outside of Iron Maiden/Bruce Dickinson and Accept/Udo Dirkschneider, who else has so consistently and so continuously flown the flag of classic heavy metal for so long?” I debated including Motorhead in this grandiose statement because I still tend to think of them as punk/thrash metal, not classic metal. Yeah, splitting hairs. 🙂 And besides, hasn’t Lemmy sort of resisted the “heavy metal” tag? I swear he’s stated many times that he feels Motorhead is a “rock ‘n’ roll band,” and not heavy metal. Ah well.

-Hmm… Another Judas Priest compilation? I mean, yes the concept of having other rockers pick the tracks and write liner notes is way cool but the bottom line is it’s just another compilation. I’m glad to see “Rapid Fire,” “The Sentinel,” and “Delivering The Goods” on there, and I’m a little surprised “Grinder” made the cut, but the only real shrug is Korn’s Jonathan Davis selecting “Turbo Lover.” Who the hell invited Korn’s Jonathan Davis to the party anyway??? 🙂

-Wow, that new Michael Schenker single “Miss Claustrophobia” is really good! Some of us here at Detritus were kicking it around and we’ve decided adding Michael Voss on vocals is Herr Schenker’s best move on that front since teaming up with Robin McAuley 25 years ago. Kudos! And, it’s especially awesome to hear Schenker playing with Pete Way and Herman Rarebell as his rhythm section. Can’t wait to hear the full album.

-The curious find of the week for me has to be FireWölfe, hands down. I love David Fefolt’s voice and it’s just cool to see drummer Jay Schellen do a metal band at this point in his career. Plus, I see a band name like FireWölfe and a song title like “Ice Wizard” and I’m 13 years old again.

-I’m sorry but the phrase “Flamenco-Metal Masterpiece” is just downright goofy.

-On the other hand, the phrase “Rakkatakka Motherf*cker” is awesome.

-And Lonely Kamel’s song title “Grim Reefer” rules.

-In my current playlist: Bill Leverty – JESUS CHILDREN OF AMERICA (SINGLE) (indie), Grönholm – SILENT OUT LOUD (Lion Music), Kickhunter – ALL IN (AFM Records), Daedalus – MOTHERLAND (Galileo Records), ZombieShakerBox – ENCRYPTED (indie).
