-Anvil: Canadian Metal Icons’ Thunderous New Studio Album JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE Released On SPV / Steamhammer June 20th To Coincide With UK Headline Tour

Steve “Lips” Kudlow – guitars, vocals
Robb Reiner – drums
Glenn Five – bass

SPV / Steamhammer are proud to announce the release of seminal Canadian Heavy Metal band Anvil’s stunning new studio album, JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE on June 20th. JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE, the band’s first studio album since 2007, was recorded at Foo Fighter, friend and fan Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Northridge, California, and produced by Bob Marlette, (Ozzy Osbourne, Marylin Manson, Alice Cooper).

JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE will be released as a standard 12 track jewel case CD, a limited edition digi-pak CD containing two bonus tracks and a double gatefold LP in blue vinyl, plus download. Anvil hit the road to play the following UK headline shows as part of their European JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE tour:

21st June – Sheffield, Corporation
22nd June – Manchester, Academy 3
23rd June – Glasgow, Cathouse
24th June – Newcastle, Academy 2
25th June – Nottingham, Rock City
11th July – London, Islington Academy
12th July – Wolverhampton, Slade Rooms

Anvil, who have been on a rock ‘n’ roll journey for the past three decades, were catapulted into the international limelight by 2008’s “Anvil! The Story Of Anvil” movie, which became the highest grossing rock documentary in UK history within two months of its release, and has now been seen by well over 8 million people in the US. While listed as a prime influence by the likes of Metallica, Motorhead and Guns N’ Roses as one of the creators of the thrash / speed metal genre, Anvil appeared to have taken a back seat to this new wave of massive metal bands. But Anvil had struggled with bad record deals, bad management and just plain bad luck prior to “Anvil! The Story Of Anvil.”

Subsequent to the success of the film, Anvil have played the main stages of virtually every major European festival, landed opening slots on two US and one Canadian AC/DC shows, embarked on their first headline tour of America in 10 years and headlined the main stage of Germany’s Wacken Festival, performing in front of 80,000 rabid metalheads. There’s now a renewed vim and vigour surrounding Anvil; “We are going after it with a vengeance; That’s how we think about life in general. Enjoy every minute, like you are winning the Cup!” declares Steve “Lips” Kudlow.

“I worked in a feverish way and with a different attitude,” Kudlow comments on his approach to JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE. “It was, ‘This has to be the best album we’ve ever done. It’s a bigger world stage that stepped things up, from the movie.’ We were looking for that musical justice.” JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE is, states co-founder Robb Reiner, “The best in the band’s 33 year history. Lips sounds 20 years younger and it’s fresh, clean, beautiful songs and playing that has the energy of 25-year-old-kids.”

He’s not kidding. The album is forceful enough to shift tectonic plates and generates a thrash attack that will have heavy music fans banging their heads so furiously that they are bound to burst blood vessels in their necks. Anvil credit Bob Marlette for “capturing the magic,” which isn’t simple to do. “You can’t work at that,” Reiner astutely points out. “It just happens. Either it is or it isn’t. The record reeks of that positivity and there is so much freshness saturating it.”

JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE cycles through many moods and tempos. “Swing Thing” is the band’s ambitious metal-jazz track, while “Fukeneh!” is an anthem that is concert hall ready. “Paranormal” is what Reiner refers to as “the ballad,” thanks to its heavy, soulful, Sabbathian vibe. “It’s a powerful, evil song and that energy is very new for Anvil,” the drummer states. Speed metal thrashers like “When Hell Breaks Loose” and “Running” also live on JUGGERNAUT OF JUSTICE, while “New Orleans Voodoo” is, according to Reiner, “a downtime pounder.” Overall, Kudlow and Reiner are adamant that there is no doom ‘n’ gloom present on JUGGERNAUT. It’s heavy and positive, which isn’t common in a lot of hard rock music.

-Seven Witches: CALL UPON THE WICKED Cover Art, Track Listing And New Video Revealed

“Fields Of Fire,” the new video from American heavy metallers Seven Witches, can be viewed at http://www.earsplitcompound.com/site/?p=2679 . The song comes off the band’s upcoming new full-length, CALL UPON THE WICKED, scheduled for release on June 28, 2011 via founding guitarist Jack Frost’s own FrostByte Records with North American distribution via eOne Entertainment.

Their first record since 2007’s DEADLY SINS (and eighth overall), CALL UPON THE WICKED finds Frost reunited with former vocalist James Rivera (Helstar). Rounding out the lineup is bassist Mike LePond (Symphony X) and drummer Taz Marazz, who each play an integral role in crafting what is easily Seven Witches’ finest offering to date.

Commented Frost: “I would just like to say thank you in advance to all of you who have been loyal to Seven Witches over the years and have waited so patiently for our new release. We also want to tip our hats to the fellow metalheads out there with open minds willing to give a listen to a great new record. CALL UPON THE WICKED is our latest project, a concept record that was a work in progress. I’m so proud to be releasing such an amazing product of our dedication. The time it took to put out this new addition to the Witches family, along with the blood, sweat and tears it took to make it, has been nothing but a wonderful experience for us. This album really captured a dream for me, as it is combination of classic Seven Witches style mixed with many of our greatest influences. I can honestly say that our fans will truly understand the devotion and loyalty we have shown to ourselves and our new music, and they will appreciate this record as much as we do. I am honored to be a part of this release, and thank you all so much for checking out our new baby, CALL UPON THE WICKED.”

CALL UPON THE WICKED was recorded at Lickman Studios by Frost with co-producers LePond and Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning), who also mixed the record. The CD features material that ranges in sound from classic Judas Priest to a touch of Rainbow. There’s even an epic song featuring female vocals, a new step in the band’s journey. -Tyr Go To #1 On The CMJ Loud Rock Charts!!!

For the first time in their illustrious, still-rising career, Faroese pagan metallers Tyr have topped the CMJ Loud Rock radio charts for their brand-new album, THE LAY OF THRYM. Released yesterday by Napalm Records, THY LAY OF THRYM had the previous week charted at #31, and now upon the week of its release shoots all the way up to #1. Commenting on this amazing achievement, frontman Heri Joensen says, “I almost fell off my cozy couch this morning when I got the message that our album was #1 on the CMJ Loud Rock radio charts — we had not even hoped for anything like this. We’re thrilled to have been recieved this well by the radio stations across the US, and we’re facinated so many people want to hear our songs. However, with this album, we deliberately tried to hit a broader audience, preferably outside the usual Folk/Pagan/Viking scene, and it looks like it has paid off. So even though we’re surprised, it was sort of what we were aiming for; it just appears to have worked better than we anticipated. I’m almost tempted to say, ‘Look, mom — I’m on top of the world!'”

Crucial commerical stations that have championed Tyr’s THE LAY OF THRYM include WCHZ in Augusta, Georgia; WIYY in Baltimore, Maryland; WXRX in Rockford, Illinois; KROX in Austin, Texas; KHTB in Salt Lake City, Utah; WRIF in Detroit, Michigan; WSOU in South Orange, New Jersey; and KGML in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Crucial college stations that have similarly championed the album include WKGB in Binghamton, New York; WEOS in Geneva, New York; WKNC in Raleigh, North Carolina; WMHB in Waterville, Maine; KFAI in Minneapolis, Minnesota; WWSP in Steven’s Point, Wisconsin; Cleveland, OH stations WJCU, WRUW, and WCSB; WLVR in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; WMUH in Allentown, Pennsylvania; WRKC in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; and KSJS in San Jose, California. Echoing many of his contemporaries’ sentiments, Troy Bradley of WCHZ says, “THE LAY OF THRYM is a bold tale told masterfully by the Odinsons of Tyr — Viking metal at its very best! Raise the heathen hammers high for Tyr!”

In other Tyr news, a new North American tour is being planned for early 2012. For more info, consult http://www.tyr.fo/ and http://www.napalmrecords.com/ .

-Charon To Call It Quits This Summer

[Note: This is from http://www.charon.fi/ . – Steve]

Metal band Charon, founded in 1992 in Raahe, Finland, quits after next summer’s performances. The band will be doing last gigs as a favour to their loyal fans and finally wraps up nearly two decades of music career.

“This shouldn’t be a really big surprise for anyone. We are forced to admit that we have no longer anything new to give to the genre in which Charon has operated. Doing things forced or not straight from the heart has never been a band practice for us. And a 100% satisfactory outcome would no longer be possible,” the band explains a long considered solution.

“After the last studio album we should have gotten a grip in time and not to delay the decisions we faced in the end of 2009. In the summer 2010, ‘a new beginning’ with a new guitarist worked brilliantly and we even wrote a full album of songs. But we did not have enough heart and passion to light up the final fire and to finish the record. Years of hanging loose from the noose had eaten up most of our energy and creativity.

“Playing in the band has been a solid part of our lives for nearly two decades. Charon had been a measure for everything that we’ve done in our lives. There are lots of good memories and tours behind and above all, great fans. Everything has its moments but nothing lasts forever. Our moment ends now.”

Charon released five studio albums as well as the last year’s compilation album A-SIDES, B-SIDES & SUICIDES, where you will find their last recorded song, “The Cure.” Charon’s last studio album was SONGS FOR THE SINNERS from autumn 2005.

All the band members still have a passion for playing and they all will continue their careers in music. Guys will announce more about their new plans when the time is right.

Charon can be seen last time live on stage in Helsinki at Tuska Open Air Festival evening club at Virgin Oil Co on Friday 22 July 2011 and two consecutive nights in Oulu at Nuclear Nightclub on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 July 2011. Details of the gigs will be published later.

-Sister: Worldwide Exclusive Stream Of New Album HATED (Out Now!) In Its Entirety Now Live On MSN.com!

Be sure to head over to MSN.com as the site hosts the worldwide premiere of Sister’s new album HATED, streaming in its entirety!

A note from the band to all metalheads about the new album:

“With this album we really captured the raw essence of Sister. We consider ourselves to be a live band and we think that it comes forward on these songs. For example the sound we wanted on HATED was pretty much the sound we expect from a live show and the song order was done like we use to decide a set list for gigs. When the album really started to take form it became clear to us that this was an album that was going to be exactly what we wanted from the start. Everything fell into the right places and the ideas turned out just right. A lot of times you get something good out of chaos and of course this was no exception. But in the end with a result that was just like we had planned from the beginning. All the people that have been working with us, making this album, have really understood our ideas and it’s been great working with every one of them. This is a record filled with dirt, raw energy, heavy riffs and catchy choruses. All things Sister is about. So check out our debut album HATED and don’t miss the chance if you have it to see us live!”

Track listing for Sister’s Metal Blade debut HATED:

1. Radioactive Misery
2. Body Blow
3. Bullsh*t & Backstabbing
4. Hated
5. Motherf*ckers (Like You)
6. Werewolves On Blackstreet
7. Spit On Me
8. The Unlucky Minority
9. Would You Love A Creature
10. Too Bad For You
11. Drag Me To The Grave

If you like what you hear you can pick up a copy of the album, available on CD and digitally, at the following location: http://www.metalblade.com/sister/ . Also available on this site are a video teaser clip of the guys recording.

The band will be filming a music video so stay tuned to MetalBlade.com for further info, behind the scenes photos and video from the shoot, and premiere details.

Cover art for HATED was created by Kim Oktavia who is an artist/tattoo artist in Stockholm Sweden and photographer Axel Engström, also from Stockholm Sweden. The band comments: “The cover art for the album are made of us and our close friends Kim Oktavia and Axel Engström. Kim is the band’s tattoo artist pretty much as the whole band gets their tattoos at her studio. She worked with the pictures that we took with Axel and really made them come to life. We did the layout with Axel afterwards and we are stoked over the result. The final cover and booklet blows our minds every time we see it. We have taken photos with Axel a lot times and it felt right to work with people that really understand what we want and are on the same page all the time. So it couldn’t have been better and when everybody sees the result they will see what we mean.”

About the band:
Sister, who hails from Stockholm/Jönkoping Sweden, formed in early 2006 working hard to build up a name as a strong act both live and in the studio. Sister consists of four members — Jamie on vocals, Lestat on guitars and backing vocals, Rikki on bass and backing vocals, and Cari on drums and backing vocals — who combine the sounds of Punk, Glam, Rock, and Metal with an end result sounding something like the bastard child of GG Allin and Guns N’ Roses.

Sister’s Metal Blade debut HATED will be annihilating the world come June 3rd/6th, 2011. Stay tuned to MetalBlade.com and the band’s websites for further details over the coming months.

-Barn Burner Streams Their New Album BANGERS II: SCUM OF THE EARTH (Out Now!) On AOL’s Noisecreep!

Montreal’s Barn Burner have partnered up with AOL’s Noisecreep to stream their new album in its entirety during the week of the record’s release. Starting June 6th the album will be streaming here:

In addition, an interview with the band can be read on Noisecreep.com here:

With the volume, technicality and intensity that embodies heavy metal and the overarching catchiness and longevity of stoner and classic rock, Barn Burner capture a signature sound that cannot be easily placed or categorized. Cultivating the principles of partying and the everlasting might of the riff, Barn Burner creates a live atmosphere that render an audience incapable of standing still. Whether it is giving your best friend a well-deserved swill of beer or lovingly smashing the bottle over his head to the sound of a ruthless riff, Barn Burner will fulfill the demands of its listeners. Having finished their second record and follow-up to the critically acclaimed BANGERS, Barn Burner are prepared to unleash something more fierce.

The release of their second full-length record, entitled BANGERS II: SCUM OF THE EARTH, saw Barn Burner teaming up with producer/engineer Adrian Popovich once again (Tricky Woo, Priestess, Sam Roberts, The Dears, and Sebastian Grainger) to create a truly original heavy metal record. While maintaining some of the core aspects of their previous record, Barn Burner have captured something more intense, taking steps to create an album more dynamic then their last. Having already toured Canada, the US and Europe with the likes of Priestess, Bison B.C., and 3 Inches Of Blood, Barn Burner intend to continue its war path in support of the Metal Blade release of BANGERS II.

“This music is all about the swagger, and the foursome carries themselves like the 1976-77 Habs: they will own you, plain and simple, no matter how hung over they are from the night before.” – Decibel Magazine

“Huge groovy riffs that would make Phil Lynott proud.” – Craveonline.com

“The band is electrifying, and whether you are in the mood to headbang or not, they inject something into your bloodstream that renders you incapable of resisting the overpowering urge.” – Outburn Magazine

-Unearth: Worldwide Premiere Of “Watch It Burn” On Lambgoat.com

Today, Lambgoat.com hosts the exclusive worldwide premiere of “Watch It Burn,” the anthemesque opening track off Unearth’s forthcoming DARKNESS IN THE LIGHT full-length.

Blisteringly heavy both musically and thematically, vocalist Trevor Phipps comments: “‘Watch It Burn’ is the lead track from DARKNESS IN THE LIGHT because we felt it captured the aggression and heaviness of the album while also staying true to our core sound from our earlier records. This is one of the only tunes without a guitar solo, but the harmonies are there to mix around one of the heaviest choruses we’ve ever written. The song is angry, fast and in-your-face while also allowing for a melodic bridge late in the song much like some of our older material. Lyrically, it is an anti-extremist song. It attacks both the left and right of the political spectrum while also calling into question extremist religious groups and their influence on our culture. All these political and religious extremists seem to manage to do is splinter society and turn people against each other that otherwise likely wouldn’t be at odds. Basically we can put aside some meager differences and work to better ourselves or we can keep heading down this destructive path and eventually ‘Watch It Burn.'”

To hear “Watch It Burn,” point your browser here:

Set for a European release on July 1 (G/A/S) / 4 (Europe) via Metal Blade Records, the 11-track DARKNESS IN THE LIGHT — their most conceptually personal offering to date — was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer (and Killswitch Engage guitarist) Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). Sitting in on drums during the recording was Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed.

The first single, the instantly pummeling “Eyes Of Black” is currently streaming on the band’s official album landing page, which includes updated tour info, pre-order options and more. Said Phipps of the track: “We chose ‘Eyes Of Black’ to be the first song heard out of the gate as we feel it represents the ‘Unearth sound’ and style perfectly and it’s simply a hard-hitting, catchy-as-hell song. The lyrics are also in line with many of the albums darker lyrical themes. I’m not speaking for all of the band, but this is my personal favorite on the album and I can’t wait to get out there and play it live!” To check out “Eyes Of Black” point your browser to http://www.darknessinthelightalbum.com/ .

Several pre-order deals for DARKNESS IN THE LIGHT are available including bundles with an exclusive T-shirt and a unique beer bong!

-Candlelight’s Summer Releases: Sourvein, Wolverine, The Living Fields

Following Memorial Day Weekend’s unofficial Summer kickoff, Candlelight Records is ready for a busy season with several new albums ready for release. The schedule includes anticipated full-length label debuts from North Carolina’s Sourvein and international bevy The Living Fields, while Sweden’s Wolverine close a nearly five year gap with the release of their latest album.

Sourvein’s BLACK FANGS is already getting amazing early response from media. Set for release June 21, the album is every bit what fans had hoped for: Low-end, feedback-drenched, plodding doom! The road-savvy quartet are looking to overtake a venue near you in the coming months. Stay tuned for details. Formed by T-Roy in 1993, Sourvein have released three full-length albums as well as a trilogy of EPs and various split recordings with the likes Buzzov*en, Bongzilla, Rabies Caste, Negative Reaction, Grief, Subsanity and Church Of Misery. The band also contributed to the Eyehategod tribute record, FOR THE SICK, with a cover of “Broken Down But Not Locked Up.” The Obelisk recently noted of the new record: “BLACK FANGS is bound to be a highlight of 2011’s sludge releases.”

COMMUNICATION LOST, from Wolverine, will also see release on June 21. Produced by Jacob Hansen (Tyr, Volbeat, Rob Rock), the album’s 11 emotive songs put end to a far-too-long musical silence for this progressive metal band. “Huge dynamics shifting from melancholia to guitar-driven sections, a pronounced rhythm workout, awesome piano and keyboard work, and excellent vocal melodies,” says Sea Of Tranquility, of the band’s unique creations. Still, the band’s first recording for Candlelight, was met with universal acclaim on its release in 2006. Kerrang gave the band their first 5/5 review as the five-piece hit the road on a short UK tour with Anathema.

The Living Fields play an eclectic mix of metals fleshed out with piano, violins, viola, cello, and acoustic guitars. With recording processes spanning the Atlantic and East Coast, RUNNING OUT OF DAYLIGHT possesses a mature yet urgent sound that long caters to the band’s rife mixing of thrash, black, Viking, and epic metals. The album’s eight songs reflect the underlying moods and themes of the lyrics. The album features the debut of new guitarist Sam Rahn and is the first to include a real string section, courtesy of violinist/violist Chuck Bontrager and cellist Petar Kecenovici. RUNNING OUT OF DAYLIGHT was assembled at Fairview Recordings by Jay Walsh and was mastered in London by Tim Turan (Emperor). The album will hit stores on July 12.

Candlelight’s summer release schedule follows the ongoing successes of Havok’s TIME IS UP, Burzum’s FALLEN, Anaal Nathrakh’s PASSION, and the Xerath’s II; all available in stores now.

-Brent Hinds Presents: WEST END MOTEL & FIEND WITHOUT A FACE Listening Party Brought To You By AOL Music

Two-CD Set To Be Released Via Rocket Science Tomorrow!

This week, AOL Music is hosting a Brent Hinds Presents: WEST END MOTEL & FIEND WITHOUT A FACE Listening Party. Check out the two-CD set, in its entirety here:

The Mastodon singer/guitarist explores a variety of influences across the two albums, from classic country to surf, punk, sleeze and boozy riffing, emerging at the end like a smirking cartoon roadrunner with no more damage than a morning’s headache. The albums span decades of recordings from the mid-’90s with FIEND WITHOUT A FACE to the later WEST END MOTEL material, finished earlier this year. Commented Hinds of the two projects: “Fiend Witout A Face is a rockabilly, surf-type of band, and then West End Motel is like an Americana, drunk country Shane McGowan, Tom Waits-y vibe. More of a Vaudeville sound.”

To check out a recent interview with Hinds on Streetdate.com, go to this location:

FIEND WITHOUT A FACE & WEST END MOTEL will be released via Rocket Science Inc. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011!

-June 2011 Southern Lord Releases: Planks, Seven Sisters Of Sleep, Xibalba

Germany’s Planks unleash intense, morose hardcore with scathing metal qualities, as witnessed by their multitude of releases over recent years, their brooding qualities hitting hard and resonating deep within the listener. At the core, Planks’ approach is evenly influenced by groups like His Hero is Gone and From Ashes Rise, yet integrates crushing tones fans of Neurosis will cling to and even straightforward black n’ roll-ish sounds one may attribute to Darkthrone. Their surging hardcore/punk power chords are forcefully accented by dissonant melodies.

This exclusive limited CD via Southern Lord — which is part of the same underground series that also includes releases from Acephalix, Summon The Crows, Alpinist, Seven Sisters Of Sleep, Xibalba and more — compiles both Planks’ THE DARKEST OF GRAYS 12″ and their SOLICIT TO FALL 12″, marking the first time any of the band’s recordings have been available on compact disc.

Planks have previously toured the US and currently have a line of European show and festival appearances planned, with much more in the works for the coming months; view the band’s ongoing tour schedule at http://www.myspace.com/walkingonplanks/shows .

Seven Sisters Of Sleep – SEVEN SISTERS OF SLEEP

A fairly new act hailing from Southern California, Seven Sisters Of Sleep’s self-titled debut album attacks the listener’s psyche with relentless, pulverizing riffs and hypnotic drumming in the name of the horned one! Featuring ex-members of Tafkata and Arm And Sword Of The Bastard God, this potent unit delivers eight tracks of ultra-gloomy, subsonic depression, with elements of Eyehategod, Burning Witch, Integrity and more, delivered with the force of a vicious kick to the skull. The vinyl version of the album was previously released by A389 records (Ringworm, Integrity, Pulling Teeth), and now sees the light of day again on June 21, 2011 via limited edition CD release on Southern Lord, part of the underground series including recent releases from Summon The Crows, Acephalix, Alpinist, Planks and Xibalba.

Seven Sisters Of Sleep will be seen touring throughout the United States this Summer, including appearances at brutal festivals including Within These Walls 2011 in Mesa Arizona this September with Integrity, Gehenna, labelmates Xibalba and tons of other metal and hardcore acts.

Seven Sisters Of Sleep Live:
9/24/2011 The Nile Theatre – Mesa, AZ @ Within These Walls 2011
[info: http://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/42773%5D

Another Southern Cali band who recently joined the Southern Lord family is the mighty Xibalba. This crushing act infuses their early American death metal influences born of Sepultura and Obituary with downtuned ’90s hardcore acts like Disembodied and Bloodlet, resulting in an oppressive force to be reckoned with. Xibalba not only know their roots, but make sure you won’t forget them either. The MADRE MIA GRACIAS POR LOS DIAS CD contains the band’s self-titled debut album as well as their material from the EARTHQUAKE compilation. The vinyl edition of this album was released by A389 records (Ringworm, Integrity, Pulling Teeth), the limited CD version seeing release June 21, 2011 on Southern Lord, as part of the label’s ongoing underground series including releases from Summon The Crows, Acephalix, Alpinist, Seven Sisters of Sleep, Planks and more.

Having just stormed Chaos In Tejas fest, Xibalba are currently embarked on a massive American tour which has the band slaying audiences alongside the likes of Foundation, Homewrecker, Harm’s Way and countless more throughout the jaunt, and brings their crushing riffage to major US hardcore festivals including Long Island Fest this month alongside Foundation, Most Precious Blood, Skarhead, Trapped Under Ice, and more, as well as Sound And Fury Fest in July, alongside Trapped Under Ice, Ringworm, Cruel Hand, Xibalba and dozens more.

-Dominanz: New Album AS I SHINE Artwork, Track Listing Revealed

Dominanz — atmospheric metallers from Norway — release their new album, AS I SHINE, in Europe on August 19 via Industrial Silence Production and Rock N Growl Distro/Cargo Records. The CD was recorded and mixed at Conclave Studio by Bjørnar E. Nilsen and Roy N. Mathisen and mastered at Earshot Studio by Herbrand Larsen.

1. Infinity
2. Agony And Domination
3. As I Shine
4. Eternal Sin
5. Abusos
6. The Philanthropic
7. Last Day Of Your Life
8. Man On Top
9. From Skin To Heart
10. The End Of All There Is

Check out the new video “The End of All There Is” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzY9s1c8nfQ .

Roy – Vocals, Bass, Guitar and Synth (ex Taake and Ofryskje)
Jørn – Guitar (Hades Almighty, ex Immortal and Old Funeral)
Frode – Drums (ex Thy Grief)

AS I SHINE is the perfect blend of atmospheric black metal and engaging industrialized beats. There is also a dose of gothic, but the listeners will probably notice that Dominanz got their roots from the Old Norwegian black metal scene. The lyric deals with everything from depictions of erotic oppression, slavery and ways to dominate fellow man. The main theme is on the bleak and destructive and living on the edge between life and death.

-Black Stone Cherry — Chris Robertson on vocals and guitar, Ben Wells on guitar and vocals, John Lawhon on bass and vocals, and John Fred Young on drums — released BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA late last month on Roadrunner Records. Track list: “White Trash Millionaire,” “Killing Floor,” “In My Blood,” “Such A Shame,” “Won’t Let Go,” “Blame It On The Boom Boom,” “Like I Roll,” “Can’t You See,” “Let Me See You Shake,” “Stay,” “Change,” “All I’m Dreamin’ Of.” The special edition has these three bonus tracks: “Staring At The Mirror,” “Fade Away,” “Die For You.” The disc also features Howard Benson on keyboards and Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) on background vocals, and was produced by Benson. Hype: “Sure, this is Southern Rock at heart; but the concept is universal: just take what the world gives you and make that work.” Check out clips of three tracks and the video for “White Trash Millionaire” (the first single) at http://musicbuymail.eu/?i=33883 . If you like progressive metal, there is no way without Communic!!” The album is due July 22 on Nuclear Blast Records. See http://www.facebook.com/OfficialCommunic for more.

-Iron Maiden’s FROM FEAR TO ETERNITY: THE BEST OF 1990-2010 is out this week as a two-CD set and digital download; a limited edition triple vinyl picture disc set is due June 28. Hype: “FROM FEAR TO ETERNITY charts the musical development of Iron Maiden as they have evolved their sound, producing longer, more complex songs and gaining huge critical acclaim in the process. . . FROM FEAR TO ETERNITY is a chance for these new fans to explore the group’s rich history, with the highlights of their last eight studio albums distilled into this handy collection, which follows 2009’s compilation of their earlier work from 1980-1990, the album SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME.” Track list: CD 1 – “The Wicker Man,” “Holy Smoke,” “El Dorado,” “Paschendale,” “Different World,” “Man On The Edge” (live), “The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg,” “Blood Brothers,” “Rainmaker,” “Sign Of The Cross” (live), “Brave New World,” “Fear Of The Dark” (live). CD 2 – “Be Quick Or Be Dead,” “Tailgunner,” “No More Lies,” “Coming Home,” “The Clansman” (live), “For The Greater Good Of God,” “These Colours Don’t Run,” “Bring Your Daughter… To The Slaughter,” “Afraid To Shoot Strangers,” “Dance Of Death,” “When The Wild Wind Blows.” See http://www.ironmaiden.com/ for more.

-Check out About Heavy Metal’s “Retro Recommendation” feature on Pentagram’s DAY OF RECKONING at http://glclk.about.com/?zi=1/Co%5Bt .

-Saxon’s CALL TO ARMS is out now. Hype: “2011, These blokes are true and stalwart Heavy Metal warriors. Saxon have been part of the music world for 34 years now — during this long time span, they certainly have been open for some experiments, but they are a band which never overdoes it, and thus, their fans somehow always get what they want. CALL TO ARMS won’t break with this tradition.” The disc features Don Airey (Deep Purple) on keyboards, was co-produced by Toby Jepson (Little Angels) and vocalist Biff Byford, and features two songs written for the upcoming movie “Hybrid Theory,” in “When Doomsday Comes (Hybrid Theory)” and “No Rest For The Wicked.” Track list: “Hammer Of The Gods,” “Back In ’79,” “Surviving Against The Odds,” “Mists Of Avalon,” “Call To Arms,” “Chasing The Bullet,” “Afterburner,” “When Doomsday Comes (Hybrid Theory),” “No Rest For The Wicked,” “Ballad Of The Working Man,” “Call To Arms” (orchestral version). The first edition of the album is a digi-pak that comes with a bonus CD featuring re-mixed and re-mastered tracks from the band’s 1980 Castle Donington show: “Motorcycle Man,” “Still Fit To Boogie,” “Freeway Mad,” “Backs To The Wall,” “Wheels Of Steel,” “Bap Shu Ap,” “747 (Strangers In The Night).” Check out clips of three tracks at http://musicbuymail.eu/?i=33989 and see http://www.saxon747.com/ for more.

-Titans Eve’s second video blog from the current Divine Equal Tour, entitled “Seattle To L.A.,” is online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dus_yIdRH4Q . The band is nominated in the “Best Metal” category at Vancouver’s Urban Culture Awards; vote for them at http://urbancultureconference.com/ . And to celebrate the nomination Titans Eve has made available a free download of the song “Tides Of Doom” (from the album THE DIVINE EQUAL) at http://titanseve.bandcamp.com/track/tides-of-doom . See http://www.facebook.com/pages/Titans-Eve/53568260495 and http://www.myspace.com/titanseveofficial for more.

-TNA’s self-titled release is out now on Eonian Records. The album was recorded in 1988 but never released, and this Memphis band is not the same TNA that released FINGER ON THE TRIGGER on Kivel Records a decade ago. Hype: “TNA, we all know what the acronym stands for. Southern sleaze-metal mavericks from Memphis, Tennessee, started out as a cover band, but soon turned their collective attention to writing originals, influenced by everyone from Kiss and Aerosmith to Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. TNA focused on delivering heavy hitting riffs that got straight to the point like a sniper’s bullet. TNA wanted to rock, they wanted to groove; they wanted to prove they weren’t posers, so they tore into every dirty dive and club throughout the continental United States with relentless energy, fine-tuning their chops until they were, in the colorful words of bassist Michael Gumm, ‘so tight you couldn’t drive a toothpick up our ass with a twenty pound sledgehammer.'” Track list: “All Nite Long,” “Bump & Grind,” “Dirty Love,” “Don’t Fade Away,” “Don’t Look Back,” “Hard Way,” “I’m Already Gone,” “It’s Over,” “Just Another Day,” “It Don’t Come Easy,” “Take A Walk,” “You Cried Wolf.” Check out clips of three tracks at http://musicbuymail.eu/?i=33948 , and see http://www.facebook.com/pages/TNAMemphis/156428001083572 and http://www.eonianrecords.com/ for more.

-Check out a new video trailer/promo for the Warriors Of Metal Festival IV at http://youtu.be/HcO3yObK5ww . The fest takes place June 17 – 18 at the Frontier Ranch in Pataskala, Ohio. The lineup: 6/17 – Argonaut, Age Of Distrust, Draekon, Lords Of The Trident, Sacred Dawn, A Tortured Soul, Vindicator, Widow (headliner). 6/18 – Stone Magnum, Grimstone, Horrifier, Deathalizer, Vanlade, Aura Azul, Machinage, Split Heaven, Benedictum, Dantesco, Shok Paris, Aska (headliner). See http://www.warriorsofmetalfest.com/ for more.

Thanks to Music Buy Mail, Lance Souther, Dan Marsicano, Andrew Haug, Ross Welford, Jon Asher, and Liz Ciavarella-Brenner for help gathering some of this information.

by Tim Wadzinski (tsw512@yahoo.com)

-Ah yes, another Iron Maiden compilation… Yes it looks cool and yes it’s kinda neat to have live versions of Blaze Bayley-era tracks sung by Bruce Dickinson, but still — another one? If you can laugh at this a bit, find the release’s page at Amazon.com and read the review entitled “Iron Maiden – The Goldman Sachs Of Metal,” by someone dubbed “Silent river.” It starts thusly: “I understand the cost of jet fuel isn’t getting any lower and probably neither is Smallwood’s wine bill or Ger’s ballet shoes and equipment, but isn’t much of the world short of extra cash now? These cash bonuses go towards making Iron Maiden the Goldman Sachs of metal, the money eating termites, the paper money minting highwaymen with a boeing jet and a tired old setlist.” Awesome. 🙂

-The info on Hörnerfest kind of made me laugh. The ‘fest has “an incredible amount of nice other entertainment to the crowd, all in the vein of the Medieval/Viking period of our history.” Really? Is the “Medieval/Viking period of our history” full of “nice entertainment?” I guess looting and pillaging are real family activities. 🙂 (Just kidding.)

-A friend of mine in Atlanta told me the Braves are now taking the field to the sounds of Dream Theater’s “Metropolis.” (Last year it was Joe Satriani’s “Summer Song.”) He’s also heard tunes by TNT (“Everyone’s A Star”), Megadeth, and Metallica at games.

-My new favorite band name (spotted in this week’s Southern Lord press release): Arm And Sword Of The Bastard God. I bet they don’t play a lot of ballads.

-In my current playlist: DC4 – ELECTRIC MINISTRY (SAMPLER) (Metal Blade Records), Pharaoh – TEN YEARS (Cruz Del Sur Music), Crystal Viper – LEGENDS (AFM Records), Steelheart – BLACK DOG (SINGLE) (indie).
