-Tony Iommi To Release His Autobiography, “Iron Man: My Life With Black Sabbath And Beyond,” This Fall

[Note: This is from GuitarWorld.com. – Tim]

Legendary Black Sabbath and Heaven & Hell guitarist Tony Iommi is the latest heavy rocker to take pen to paper and write an autobiography.

The book — “Iron Man: My Life With Black Sabbath And Beyond” — will be published Nov. 1 in the United States by De Capo Press. It comes out Oct. 13 in the UK.

“‘Iron Man’ chronicles the story of pioneering guitarist Tony Iommi and legendary band Black Sabbath, dubbed ‘The Beatles of heavy metal’ by Rolling Stone,” according to the product description at amazon.com.

“‘Iron Man’ reveals the man behind the icon yet still captures Iommi’s humor, intelligence and warmth. He speaks honestly and unflinchingly about his rough-and-tumble childhood, the accident that almost ended his career, his failed marriages, personal tragedies, battles with addiction, band mates, famous friends, newfound daughter, and the ups and downs of his life as an artist.”

-Hard “ROCKAHOLICS” Warrant Prepare New Album And Sign To Frontiers Records

Frontiers Records is proud to announce the signing of Warrant, one of the most popular and successful American hard rock bands to come out of the Los Angeles musical scene.

As live show fans still sing along with songs from the early years such as “Heaven,” “Down Boys,” “Sometimes She Cries,” “I Saw Red,” “Cherry Pie” and “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” the band has recently completed a new 14 song CD entitled ROCKAHOLIC, released May 17, 2011, on Frontiers Records. The culmination of their combined efforts has been highly regarded and reviewed — the band can’t wait to play not only all the hits fans know by heart, but also new tunes, such as the single and video “Life’s A Song,” “Home,” and “Sex Ain’t Love” from the new CD, which have already gotten the crowd cheering and singing along!

Jerry Dixon commented, “The last few years has been like holding in a big ‘secret’ from the world and now we get to share it. I really think we captured a perfect mix of the past and present on this record. Each song has its own vibe that’s going to take people on a kick-ass Warrant rollercoaster ride. To help achieve an old school sound mixed with the flair of today, we called on the legendary Keith Olsen to do the production. There’s enough ’80s influence on songs like ‘Tears In The City’ and ‘Sex Ain’t Love’ to keep the die-hard Warrant fans rocking while introducing them to new material.”

Check out WarrantRocks.com for all our tour dates, Thanks!

-Members Of Motorhead, The Stray Cats, And Lonesome Spurs Team Up For New HeadCat Release!

The Band Signs With Niji Entertainment Group!

Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Slim Jim Phantom (The Stray Cats) and Danny B. Harvey (Rockats, 13 Cats, Lonesome Spurs), have teamed up in a high-energy, “take no prisoners” combo to remind the world how real rock ‘n roll is supposed to f*ckin sound. HeadCat serves up a delicious melting pot with flavors of rockabilly, punk, blues and undeniable rock ‘n roll!

HeadCat was formed in 2000 after recording an Elvis Presley tribute special to which all band members contributed. Slim Jim Phantom (drums, percussion), was born in Brooklyn and listened to his parents’ jazz records. At the age of ten he took up the drums although he always says that the drums chose him. He is an exceptional drummer who cemented his place among rock royalty long time ago and inspires and excites audiences worldwide.

Danny B. Harvey (guitar, piano) is Texas born and also discovered his love for music very early. He started playing the guitar at the age of six and even got a full scholarship to study classical guitar. He developed a finger picking guitar style that’s very unique and based on his idols Merle Travis and Chet Atkins but also a result of his classical-technique education.

Lemmy Kilmister (vocals, bass, harmonica) was born and raised in England and started to play the guitar at the age of sixteen. With a laughing eye he always said that he only took the guitar to impress the girls. He is an autodidact and changed early to bass as he stated he wasn’t a good guitar player. After founding Motorhead in 1975 he knows the ups and downs in the business and has reached the status of an Icon all over the world.

The new HeadCat album WALK THE WALK… TALK THE TALK is due to be released July 5th, 2011 through Niji Entertainment Group, the record label Wendy Dio and her and late husband Ronnie James Dio formed before his untimely passing.

Twelve fantastic songs for WALK THE WALK, TALK THE TALK were chosen easily. HeadCat prepare to take over the airwaves with their first single “American Beat.” “American Beat” is a song written in the studio — Lemmy had the words and the rest came together very quickly. “I Ain’t Never” is one of the songs Lemmy really likes and Danny knew it — a real country, rockabilly number, full of love and ready to take you drifting away. “Let It Rock” is one of their favorite Chuck Berry tunes — The Stones did it a lot in their live show in the ’70s — HeadCat plays a different version. “Something Else” is a classic Eddie Cochran — Lemmy came on stage with the Stray Cats and jammed on it at a show in the ’90s at Hammersmith Odeon so it came quite natural to take this on the record as well.

WALK THE WALK… TALK THE TALK track listing confirmed as follows:

American Beat
Say Mama
I Ain’t Never
Bad Boy
Shaking All Over
Let It Rock
Something Else
The Eagle Flies On Friday
Trying To Get To You
You Can’t Do That
It’ll Be Me

-Rock & Roll Photographer Mark “Weissguy” Weiss Joins Forces With The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program And The Women And Cancer Fund

In Conjunction With The LETUSINcampaign.org

Bidding Ends Sunday, May 8th!

World renowned photographer Mark Weiss has been shooting Ozzy Osbourne for 30 years. What began in 1981 as an assignment for Circus Magazine — to shoot a small b&w as part of a Rock ‘n Roll Yearbook theme — ended with the infamous photo of Ozzy on the cover, resplendent in a pink tutu and cowboy boots. So began the decade’s long camaraderie between the two, resulting in the provocative, dramatic and amusing iconic images of a legend. “Ozzy took me under his wing and away I went.” — Mark Weiss.

Twelve photographs were originally unveiled at the Andaz, a/k/a “The Riot House” in Hollywood after Ozzy’s historic performance at the Sunset Strip Music Festival in September 2009. In celebration of the release of “God Bless Ozzy Osbourne,” these one of a kind archival giclée prints on canvas, with original signatures by Ozzy and Mark, and dated by Ozzy on April 25, 2011, one day after they were displayed at the documentary’s premiere, will be auctioned off to benefit “The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program At Cedars Sinai” and “The Women And Cancer Fund.”

“God Bless Ozzy Osbourne” is a new documentary about Ozzy’s life and times debuting at the 10th Annual Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The Festival runs through May 1. The film is the first release from Jack Osbourne’s company, Jacko Productions.

Mark was honored when Jack interviewed him for the documentary on his dad, and he is proud to be a part of the film. Watching all of the Osbourne kids grow up, whether photographing family Christmas cards, Kelly’s album cover, or the controversial shot of Ozzy dressed as a housewife in curlers ironing baby Aimee (the iron wasn’t plugged in), he has been there. It has been quite a ride with Ozzy and more than once throughout his successful career Mark has surely uttered the phrase “God Bless Ozzy Osbourne.”

“I’ve known Mark Weiss since he was a teenager. He was relentless in the pursuit of his art. Mark would knock on my hotel door all hours of the day and night wanting to take photos. He definitely had and still has the rock and roll spirit.”
— Ozzy Osbourne

Winner from each auction gets a free 11×14 print signed by Mark Weiss from http://www.WEISSGUYgallery.com/ .

-Ex-L.A. Guns And Girl Front Man Phil Lewis Joins Heavy Metal Kids

Phil Lewis vocalist and front man for L.A. Guns and Brit Glam Rock band Girl will be taking over the helm for a few shows with The Heavy Metal Kids.

John Altman (a.k.a. “Johnny Rio” and EastEnders’ “Nasty Nick Cotton”) took over the vocals after a long hiatus and several lineup changes from the late original singer and his friend Gary Holton, (also known from the ’80s TV series “auf wiedersehen pet”). In fact it coincided with the 25th anniversary of Gary’s death. (A very special gig indeed.) Unfortunately John has had to step down due to prearranged acting commitments, after his brief stint as the new well loved vocalist. With an opening in the front, Phil Lewis is the perfect choice to complete The Heavy Metal Kids’ lineup.

The Heavy Metal Kids will be doing a special London show on May 29th to be held at The Camden Underworld to introduce the man who needs no introduction at all: Phil Lewis. Rumour has it there will only be 50 tickets for sale to the general public and the rest will be VIP invite invitations only!

Support will be Pink Cigar:

-Wacken Open Air Update

W:O:A Hymn 2011 – Wacken Will Never Die

Wacken Hymn Hets It’s Third Issue

Also this year the W:O:A will be accompanied into battle by an appropriate hymn. Following Doro in 2009 and U.D.O. in 2010 now Grave Digger will compose oneself to present the Wacken Open Air with their hymn “Wacken Will Never Die.” Vocalist Chris Boltendahl and his comrades follow in the footsteps of their two ancestors without any trouble and present another powerful hymn which knows how to transport the spirit of Wacken to their fans.

This piece of music can be pre-listened at the Facebook and MySpace sites of W:O:A. There you can also listen to “We Are The Metalheads” (Doro) and “Heavy Metal W:O:A” (U.D.O.).

The purchasable single will be available during the upcoming festival and in stores after the end of W:O:A 2011.

As in the last year the Wacken Foundation ( http://www.wacken-foundation.com/ ) will get all the receipts of the single.

Here are the lyrics of the song:

Wacken Will Never Die

1. Strophe:

We’re standing in the first row
Raising our fist
Screaming at our idols
Coming out of the mist

Like a thunder from the sky
Rolling on the stage
Metal Monsters are unleashed
Fighting side by side

For Metal we live
For Metal we’ll die
We are riding the sky
Til the morning light

2. Strophe:

No time to wait, get out on the road
And never give up
Time to burn, time to learn
Every second we yearn

Relentless Energy On Board With The World’s Biggest Metal Festival

Wacken, northern Germany — probably not the kind of place you’d expect to find the world’s largest metal gathering. But 21 years since its inception, the Wacken Open Air Festival remains an annual fixture in this small, sleepy town. Taking place from 4 – 6 August 2011, it’s set to be another huge occasion.

The Big Guns Come Out

Headliners include the mighty Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Motorhead, Avantasia, Children Of Bodom, Suicidal Tendencies, Airbourne and Mayhem — enough to justify the ticket price alone. There are also various weird and wonderful curios worth checking out, like the annual opening show from the Wacken Firefighters. As their name would suggest, they’re fire-fighters who just happen to love metal and can thrash out a song or two.

Breaking New Talent

On top of the established talent, aspiring metal acts have the chance to perform alongside their heroes thanks to the Wacken Open Air Metal Masters online video competition. This year Relentless Energy are on board to help spread the word and give this opportunity-of-a-lifetime contest their full backing. Bands that think they can cut it live can upload a video of themselves in action to the WackenTube website ( http://wackentube.com/MetalMasters ). Users then vote on their favourites. The winners get a slot on the Wacken Wet Stage — also known as Headbanger’s Ballroom.

The festival is already sold out, but the Relentless Energy community have a chance to win a trip to this immense metal nirvana — keep your eyes peeled to the site and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to find out how around the beginning of June.

Green’n’Clean Award

Environment-friendly Festival According To Green’n’Clean Guidelines

The Green’n’Clean Award distinguishes environment-friendly festivals. This initiative guarantees that measures to save energy and protect our natural resources are implemented and openly communicated.

Music festivals have a large impact on the environment. Traffic, noise, water, effluents, waste and greenhouse-gas emissions all come with the fun of the festival and the gathering of large crowds in general. We believe that by implementing measures to keep our environmental impact low, we can also provide our audience with a maximum of pleasure during its stay.

This includes making public transport available, using renewable energies and limiting air travel to a minimum.

Our festival has been honoured with the international Green’n’Clean Award, which distinguishes environment-friendly festivals. This initiative guarantees that measures in the fields of sustainable management, transportation, waste management, energy efficiency and power, catering as well as purchasing are implemented. Protecting our natural resources and communicating these efforts to sponsors and the audience are key to being green and clean.

The Green’n’Clean Award was developed by Yourope — the European Festival Association.

-Statement From Original Vicious Rumors Bassist/WildeStarr Guitarist Dave Starr

[Note: This was posted last week at http://www.myspace.com/wildestarr/blog/542781594 . – Tim]

Original Vicious Rumors bassist/WildeStarr guitarist Dave Starr has issued the following press release:

There are a few things I would like to address and clear up regarding VR. I have received numerous e-mails asking why I am not playing at the upcoming VR reunion at the KIT Festival this weekend in Germany. As most of you know, VR has been a big part of my life and I played on all the bands greatest CDs, tours and videos. I spent close to 12 years in the band. My time with VR was and always will be a important to me. Having said that, under the current conditions in the band, it is not possible for me to do this reunion show.

The problems go back to right after the recording of the last VR CD WARBALL (2006). At that time I went back to work on my current band WildeStarr. Singer London Wilde and I were working on songs for our debut CD ARRIVAL that would come out in late 2009. In 2006 VR drummer Larry Howe was paid in full by London to play on our debut album. He agreed to do it, and we gave him demo songs to work on until we were ready to begin recording. In 2007 we contacted Larry and told him we were ready to book studio time and this is when he told us that he decided not to play on our CD. Not only did he change his mind, but he kept the money he was paid for the recording. He also sent us threatening and hostile e-mails and phone messages warning us not to take any legal action against him or he would “retaliate” against us. All of these messages have been saved and documented. We were forced to hire another drummer for our CD, and essentially had to pay twice for drum tracks.

I told VR guitarist Geoff Thorpe that because of Larry’s actions and behavior, I would not have anything further to do with VR in the future as long as Larry Howe was involved. Geoff said he understood, and would do what he could to try and convince Larry to straighten things out with London and I. Nothing ever came of this.

In early 2010, Geoff Thorpe asked me about playing at the 2011 KIT Festival. This would have been the first time the 4 surviving members of the band would have played together since 1993. I told Geoff that nothing has changed at all with Larry, so I would not do the show. Geoff again said he would talk to Larry. Geoff asked me over and over throughout 2010 about doing the show, but my answer was always the same. I would love to do the show, but Larry needs to return the money he was paid and apologize in person to London and I. Once these two things were done, all would be forgiven and I would be willing to talk about doing the show. No apology ever came. No money was ever returned to us. I finally had to tell Geoff that I was tired of talking about this and not to ask me about the reunion show again. Geoff said he was really upset, and that he really wanted the VR reunion show at KIT to happen. He said he would go ahead and find a fill in bassist, and I told him to do whatever he had to do. This situation with Larry has obviously strained the relationship between Geoff and I.

I have no bitterness or sour grapes about any of this. Larry has serious substance abuse issues that cloud his judgment, and that is not something that I am angry about. If anything, I feel sorry for Larry. I have been 100% clean and sober for 6 years now, so I know the damage drugs and alcohol can do to oneself (and your relationship with others) as well as the liberation of being free from the hell of addiction. I only hope that Larry can somehow find the inner peace and freedom that I have found.

In closing, I would like to thank all the great VR fans over they years for their love and support. Many of you have followed me since the early days of SOLDIERS OF THE NIGHT, all the way through to WARBALL and now, with what I am doing on guitar with WildeStarr.

London and I (along with new drummer Josh Foster) are hard at work on the new WildeStarr CD A TELL TALE HEART that will be out later this year. Our first CD ARRIVAL received incredible reviews worldwide, and London and I both agree that the new CD will be even stronger. We will have a slightly darker and more aggressive sound this time around, yet retaining the same heaviness and Halford like vocals combined with dramatic and orchestrated harmony guitars.

Dave Starr 4-28-011

-Voivod To Release Live Album In The US Via Sonic Unyon Metal

Sonic Unyon Metal is extremely proud to announce the confirmed upcoming release of a live album from the almighty Voivod!

Late in 2009, Voivod released their live TATSUMAKI DVD, filmed the previous fall when they toured Japan for the first time ever. To celebrate its release of the DVD, Voivod performed in front of a sold-out crowd on December 12th, 2009 at Club Soda in their adopted hometown of Montreal, Quebec. It was their first headlining show in the city of Montreal in more than ten years and it was celebrated in grand style. It was a fitting end to a busy year that saw them named Metal Band Of The Year at the 2010 Indie Awards in Canada. The show was recorded for posterity and is now being released as the 15-track WARRIORS OF ICE, the first official Voivod live album to feature original band members Denis “Snake” Belanger on vocals and bassist Jean-Yves “Blacky” Theriault, as well as new guitarist Dan “Chewy” Mongrain.

Set for release on June 21, 2011, WARRIORS OF ICE highlights the classic period of the original Voivod lineup as well as a few new songs, all raging with the band’s notorious live energy. Containing songs from their classic albums, spanning from 1984’s WAR AND PAIN right up through 1991’s ANGEL RAT, as well as two songs from their 2009 INFINI LP, the album is built of Voivod’s signature songs, from “Voivod” and “Nuclear War” to “Tribal Convictions” and “Astronomy Domine.” View the cover art for WARRIORS OF ICE — designed by drummer Michel Langevin, a.k.a. Away, as always — and more at http://www.earsplitcompound.com/site/?p=2496 .

WARRIORS OF ICE Track Listing:

This is the main set Voivod ravaged their audiences with on their 2010 US tour alongside Kreator, and at their headlining slot at the 2010 Scion Rock Fest.

Voivod are currently touring Europe, and will begin to assault the North American masses again this May when they are scheduled as one of the top headliners of the 2011 Maryland Deathfest. Stay tuned for more North American tour dates to be announced in the coming weeks.

-> North American release on June 7, 2011

With V, Karma To Burn releases the follow-up to their highly acclaimed comeback album APPALACHIAN INCANTATION. The trio from West Virginia remain extremely reliable in delivering first-class stoner rock. V celebrates monumental riffs and spirited performances, as the band successfully manages to create a hypnotic sound cosmos with purely instrumental tracks that pay homage to the godly powers of the groove. With “Jimmy D,” “The Cynics,” and the Black Sabbath cover song “Never Say Die,” Karma To Burn lets go of their long-held instrumental tradition in order to welcome a vocalist among their ranks. Daniel Davies (Year Long Disaster) strengthens the killer grooves on these three tracks with his unmistakable vocal prowess. This new powerhouse of mighty riffs was produced in Dave Grohl’s (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures) Studio 606 by John Lousteau, who allowed each track enough room to breathe, without robbing them of the necessary crunch and thus, creating an energetic live atmosphere rarely experienced in a music industry often driven by cheap imitations.

-> North American release on June 7, 2011

The story of King Thrym, who dared steal Thor’s hammer Mjollnir, may set the lyrical stage on Tyr’s latest album, but it does not prevent them from covering more current topics like in the track “Shadow Of The Swastika.” THE LAW OF THRYM follows the path of the band’s previous releases by uniting classic heavy metal riffs with impressive drumming, traditional melodies, and powerful choruses. The result is a number of epic anthems, such as “Take Your Tyrant” and “Hall Of Freedom,” both of which will most certainly earn a permanent spot on Tyr’s future set lists. Front man Heri Joensen continues to give Tyr a unique and unmistakable edge with magnificent vocals and superb guitar work. Jacob Hansen was again responsible for recording, mixing, and mastering the album, complementing this fascinating Faeroese sound universe with finishing touches that allow every last detail to shine. THE LAW OF THRYM is a genuine Viking metal album that will undoubtedly secure Tyr’s hold on this genre with its heroic melodies and glorious riffs.

Arkona will be releasing a new full-length studio album late this summer. Yet to appease their eagerly awaiting fans, the pagan folk metal warriors, revolving around charismatic front lady Masha Scream, present the MCD STENKA NA STENKU. The nearly 25-minute-long mini CD includes a new track from the upcoming album, as well as five exclusive non-album tracks. The opening number delivers one of the band’s most melodic and memorable tracks ever, while staying true to their highly acclaimed and expected trademark sound. An acoustic version of “Goi, Rode, Goi!” follows close on its heels, as well as the track “Skål,” featuring guest musician Freki of Germany’s Varg. This particular offering is sure to invoke more than one headbanging extravaganza during any number of upcoming live performances this summer! The MCD concludes with two folk-influenced tracks that emphasize the more melancholic side of Arkona’s musical prowess. STENKA NA STENKU provides the listener with a full range of that which makes this Russian band so special, and it will most certainly become yet another highlight in Arkona’s discography.

“Prepare to experience the sound of medieval Denmark dying of the plague. The third and latest album by Svartsot tells the tale of the Black Death’s arrival in 1349 and deals with the horrors, grief, anger, and sorrows of the people that it affected. It comprises 10 tracks of the most intricate material we’ve ever written and reveals a slight change in the general style of the band that this time around has found its melodic inspiration in the music of the Middle Ages. Terrorizer commended the band saying: “Everything great about thrash — infectious, galloping riffs, hummable choruses, a vast array of gang vocals in ‘DOA’ — is employed, with their ace in the hole being Reece Scruggs, whose sumptuously-phrased solos, balancing shred, fiery modal moves and soulful, blues bends will suck in everyone from guitar nerds to song-structure curmudgeons.” About.com gave the record 4/5 rating saying: “Havok have the chops and the ability to prove that they have the staying power to last in this genre,” while Popdose added: “This is easily the best thrash record of any type released since Toxic Holocaust dropped AN OVERDOSE OF DEATH on us in 2008.”

-Introducing The Ultimate Fan App

NEW YORK CITY, NY — Digital Fan’s A3 app is a direct conduit from the artist to the fans. A3 is an all access app that provides exclusive content to devoted fans and followers.

A3 is a text, a pic, audio or video message, sent directly from the artist’s phone to their fans’ phones. Imagine a band walking out on stage and taking their iPhone, Droid or Blackberry, launching A3, and taking a quick video then sending it down the wire for their fans to see. Whether working on a new song, previewing a new album cover or poster, announcing a tour or TV appearance or a myriad of other options the A3 app from Digital Fan is the paramount fan club device for the digital era.

How does it work?

All public TXT updates can be linked to a band’s Twitter and Facebook accounts. When they send media — audio, video, pics, or a private TXT — their fans on Facebook and Twitter will see a status update notifying them that the artist just uploaded exclusive A3 content, and “For exclusive access, please upgrade to an A3 account.” (With a link to the app).

A3 is a free app that allows fans to opt in for an all access pass for a minimal fee of $1.99 a month or $5.99 for 3 months — with an extra month free*. Bands can deliver dynamic content to their fans instantaneously with a simple update a few times per week to start with. The more exclusive the content, the more engaged the fans will be. All A3 content will be archived as well, so new fans can go back and look up previous content (archive only lasts from one week prior to start of subscription).

Artists currently using the A3 app include Queensryche, Bumblefoot of Guns N’ Roses, The Tour Bus Radio Show, Evan Farmer of CMT’s Top 20 Countdown, Anew Revolution, Warrant, Tantric, Hailey Bright of Spike TV and more!

Developed by Ralph Sutton, Lane Roathe and Rich Rice — “I’ve been doing my radio show ‘The Tour Bus’ for over a decade,” says Ralph Sutton. “In the past 5 years more and more bands have been discussing with me the pitiful state of the music industry — and I thought — if this keeps going the way it is — hearing new music from great bands won’t happen anymore — because bands won’t be able to survive! So I took the idea of a fan club from when I used to be a member of the Kiss Army and made it work for the 21st century! And it’s working great not just for bands — but anyone who has a strong fan base.”

-New Jersey Christian Rockers Rivera Bomma Summer 2011 Tour News

New Jersey’s Christian Rockers Rivera Bomma are now booking International & National selected summer dates. Rod Rivera and Johnny Bomma will be joined by Master Extraordinare Bass player Mike LePond of Progessive Metal Giants Symphony X!!

Rivera Bomma is currently recording there much anticipated third full-length release entitled INFINITE JOURNEY OF SOULS.

Rivera Bomma Bio:

The New Jersey-based Rivera Bomma was formed late 2000. Named after founding musicians, vocalist John Bomma (previously with Hades), and guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Rod Rivera. Their strong guitar driven debut album, INVISIBLE FORCE, released through Secret Port Records in 2002, received favorable reviews around the globe, which encouraged the band greatly to tour, write, rehearse, record, and generally prepare for the important second album, I AM GOD, was released on Mausoleum Records in February 2006.

Rivera Bomma are a Christian Melodic Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band, playing a mixture of traditional hard rock and melodic American heavy metal — at times a hint progressive, due to the presence of majestic, but subtle keyboards.

Rod and John have written some epic anthems which they perform over pulsating rhythms, revealing the influences of their ’70s heroes, such as Deep Purple and Rainbow. The power and range of John Bomma’s voice is indeed comparable to an Ian Gillan or Ronnie James Dio, whilst Rod Rivera is a guitar virtuoso parallel to Ritchie Blackmore or Michael Schenker, occasionally also shredding Malmsteen-style, as well as playing some dazzling Latin Flamenco guitar.

Rivera Bomma are definitely not concerned with being part of any “flavor of the month” trend, rather they write and play from the heart!

Rivera Bomma is now back in the studio putting the finishing touches on their much anticipated 3rd release entitled INFINITE JOURNEY OF SOULS.

Joining Rod & Johnny in the studio is Mike LePond of Symphony X on bass and Eddie Faust (Ted Poley) back on drums.

Brazilian goth metallers Desolate Ways released a video for “Regret,” a song which is part of LAST MOONS, the band’s third studio album, released via Die Hard Records and produced by Roger “Earth” Fingle (Blood Tears, Seduced By Suicide).

About the video, which was directed by Luís Mário Fontoura (Scelerata, Hibria, Magician), the guitarist Elizeu Hainzenreder comments: “Here we are releasing another video in our career, the third one to be exact. It was very good to work with Luís Mário Fontoura and his crew. I think that watching the video is enough to understand what I’m talking about. The song speaks of things that we regret having done or not having done, but under the perspective of someone who is in the end of his life. We shot it in our home city (Torres), because we thought it would be a great opportunity to present the place that inspired the creation of the band and also the atmosphere of our songs and lyrics.”

-Kvelertak: New Video Premiere Brought You By Noisecreep

Today Noisecreep premieres the “Ordsmedar Av Rang” video from Norwegian newcomers Kvelertak.

“Ordsmedar Av Rang” comes off the band’s self-titled, debut full-length unleashed in North America via The End Records on March 15. Originally released in Europe last June via Indie Recordings, the record continues to reap praise from critics and fans alike for its unique blend of punk, black metal, classic rock and blues elements.

Commented the band in a collective statement: “The video was shot in our hometown Stavanger at Folken in December last year. ‘Ordsmedar Av Rang’ is a song about how difficult it is to write lyrics, basically.”

To check out the video, point your browser here:

Produced by Kurt Ballou and mixed by Alan Douches with artwork by John Baizley and guest appearances by Hoest (Taake), Andreas Tylden (JR Ewing and Altaar), Ivar Nikolaisen (Silver), and Ryan McKenney (Trap Them), Kvelertak was awarded #1 status in the category of Best Heavy Metal releases for the month of March by About.com who applauded the band saying, “KVELERTAK lives up to expectations, and is one of those CDs you can put on repeat and enjoy all day long.” Added popular Canadian metal site, Hellbound, in a 9.5/10 review: “…the erudite and unstoppable three-axe riff barrage and leather razor strop vocals of Erlend Hjelvik make this a release that will fire up the polemics machine.” Kerrang! Magazine named Kvelertak “the best Norwegian band since A-Ha,” while Popmatters noted: “Rock ‘n’ roll, metal, and punk all collide to form an absolutely raucous first album that’s loud, confrontational, largely indecipherable, and most of all, huge, huge fun.” Long Island Press agreed: “KVELERTAK the album abounds with such richness, openness, joy and hedonism. It somehow captures an entire history in its 49 minutes. It is timeless and multitudinous, but so urgent and immediate that it could not have existed in any other instant except this one.”

Bjarte Lund Rolland – Guitars
Vidar Landa – Guitars
Erlend Hjelvik – Vocals

-Former Stratovarius members Timo Tolkki (guitar, vocals), Jari Kainulainen (bass), Anti Ikonen (keyboards), and Tuomo Lassila (drums) have teamed up, under a to-be-determined moniker, to celebrate Stratovarius’ 30th anniversary by re-recording the 1994 DREAMSPACE album, due out in January 2012 as RETURN TO DREAMSPACE. Tolkki has stated, “It’s not a ‘remake,’ but a brand new album. A closure for [what] I consider to be the end of Stratovarius. It completes the cycle and returns to the beginning.” So far over 20 songs reportedly have written; titles include “Return To Dreamspace,” “Digital Jesus,” “Santiago,” “Chevaliers De Sangreal,” “Full Circle,” and “Farewell No. 2.”

-The reunited Sword will support Annihilator at the Quebec City International Summer Festival at the Imperial Theater in Quebec City, Quebec, on July 10.

-Wolf’s sixth album LEGIONS OF BASTARDS is out now on Century Media. The band’s lineup is Niklas Stalvind on guitar and vocals, Johannes “Axeman” Losback on guitar, Anders Modd on bass, and Richard Holmgren on drums. Hype: “2011, Do you miss the feeling you had when you first heard THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST or BRITISH STEEL? The moment when you jumped on your bed and shredded your air guitar like a maniac? When you took your pen out and drew your favorite band’s logo on your desk? When you stood in front of the mirror and banged your head until you fell down? Welcome to LEGIONS OF BASTARDS, Wolf’s 6th album of pure Heavy Metal! Wolf presents razor sharp vocals that burn the lyrics in your head and classic guitar solos that melt your face off. This limited Digi has two bonus tracks, one being a Metal Church cover. Cover art once again by Thomas Holm, the man who did Mercyful Fate’s MELISSA and DON’T BREAK THE OATH covers. Now grab a beer, turn the volume to eleven and join the LEGIONS OF BASTARDS on their road to hell.” Track list: “Vicious Companions,” “Skull Crusher,” “Full Moon Possession,” “Jekyll & Hyde,” “Absinthe,” “Tales From The Crypt,” “Nocturnal Rites,” “Road To Hell,” “False Preacher,” “Hope To Die,” “K-141 Kursk,” “6 Steps” (bonus track), “Method To Your Madness” (Metal Church cover) (bonus track). Check out samples of three songs at http://musicbuymail.eu/?i=33727 , and see http://www.wolf.nu/ and http://www.myspace.com/wolfheavymetal for more.

-Wow, Sword is back! I haven’t thought about that band in a while, but thanks to this news I pulled out 1986’s uber-awesome METALIZED and 1989’s SWEET DREAMS. METALIZED still holds up, and I must say I enjoyed SWEET DREAMS more than I remembered. I always thought it was kind of a lame follow-up to the killer debut, but — surprise! — indeed there are a few more blazin’ classic metal tracks on it. Steve also clued me in to how vocalist Rick Hughes went on to the Aldo Nova-affiliated Saints & Sinners in the early ’90s and released a solo album a few years ago. I’m not 100% sure how I missed out on these, as Hughes has one of my all-time favorite old-school metal voices… Bad Tim! Anyway, here’s hoping Sword puts out another good album.

-I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole Judas Priest/K.K. Downing retirement thing. I mean, who retires prior to the retirement tour? That is so Spinal Tap… And why do we get such short, relatively uninformative statements from a major band like this yet we get a thoroughly detailed blow-by-blow regarding the Vicious Rumors situation? As a diehard Priest fan, this sucks on so many levels. I know the tour will still be awesome, and I’m certainly glad to hear the band will continue making albums, but I’m bummed.

-I have to say that Stratovarius news is just odd. The current Timo Kotipelto-led lineup features no original members, so the original Timo Tolkki-led lineup reunites under a different name to re-record and update an old album. Maybe they should rename the two bands as Big Timo and Little Timo. Not sure why this oddness seems to follow this band…

-In my current playlist: The Rods – VENGEANCE (Niji Entertainment Group), Power Quest – BLOOD ALLIANCE (Napalm Records), Symphorce – UNRESTRICTED (AFM Records), Emerald Sun – REGENERATION (Pitch Black Records).
