The Future Of Y&T

Things are buzzing in the Y&T camp, so don’t let the sparse-looking tour dates page fool you. Check the web site for more shows, soon to be announced. In the meantime, see Dave’s thread about the future of Y&T:

Brad Lang

Y&T officially announces Brad Lang joining the band on bass guitar. Those who have witnessed Brad’s infectious energy on stages around the world during last year’s FACEMELTER tour — as he so graciously subbed for Phil — know how much he brings to the band. Thank you all for so warmly welcoming Brad.

“That Metal Show”

Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 7 at 11 p.m., as that’s the airdate of Dave’s episode on Season 7 of “That Metal Show” on VH1 Classic. Set your DVR, and then come out to Y&T’s Fillmore show that night.

This new shirt features the classic album cover design on the front, and the EARTHSHAKER logo with song titles on the back. Available exclusively on the Y&T web site and at Y&T shows. In honor of this anniversary, Y&T will also be performing the entire EARTHSHAKER album at select 2011 shows.

Melt Your Face

We’ll be taking the FACEMELTER chocolates offline soon due to the warming weather, so be sure to order yours now. We still plan to have them at Y&T shows in the US, as available.

Bring The Kids!

Fans in the US are constantly asking for Y&T shows where they can bring the kids. We’re happy to announce that Y&T is playing several “all ages” shows in California: May 7 at the Fillmore in San Francisco, and August 27 at the Tower Theatre in Fresno. Look for more shows (to be announced) where your kids can share in the Y&T experience.

-Yes And Styx Co-Headlining US Summer Tour Set To Kick Off July 4th, 2011

The world’s most quintessential prog-rock band Yes joins forces with multi-platinum rock band Styx for a summer tour extravaganza. These two monster rock bands will embark on a 22-city summer tour starting July 4th and concluding August 3rd in Mountain View, CA. Tickets will go on sale starting the weekend of April 8th.

Yes — The Legendary, Grammy® Award winning prog-rock band that has defined many a generation — will be on tour in support of their new album FLY FROM HERE on Frontiers Records releasing July 12th.

Yes features a lineup of guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire, drummer Alan White, and lead singer Benoit David. Yes will be reuniting with keyboard player Geoff Downes for this tour.

Styx — Tommy Shaw (vocals, guitars), James “JY” Young (vocals, guitars), Lawrence Gowan (vocals, keyboards), Todd Sucherman (drums) and Ricky Phillips (bass), along with the occasional surprise appearance by original bassist Chuck Panozzo — has an unmistakable sound all their own, and they continue to prove that they’re one of the hardest working bands in the music world thanks to a vigorous tour schedule that keeps them constantly on the road all across the globe.

“We are excited to have Styx on tour with us. I consider them to be in the vein of Yes and the cutting edge of prog-rock in America,” says Yes founder/bassist Chris Squire.

“When I first heard Yes, I knew that the music world was forever changed,” says Styx singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw. “They took progressive rock to a place that had never been expressed in such an impressive yet accessible way. Who among you didn’t make it a point to learn the acoustic guitar intro to ‘Roundabout?’ We’re very excited to tour with them for the very first time.”

FLY FROM HERE is the first album Yes has recorded for close to a decade and was produced by the legendary Trevor Horn in the spirit that Yes was founded. The return of Horn along with the Maestro’s that make up Yes has brought back the fluid freedom that their music’s ingenuity is best known for. Yes holds a shrewd insight and creative vision that challenges audiences as they stretch the boundaries of music.

Styx is currently putting the finishing touches on REGENERATION, VOLUME 2, the follow-up to 2010’s seven-song EP, REGENERATION, VOLUME 1, which contains six newly re-recorded classics — “Come Sail Away,” “Crystal Ball,” “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man),” “Lorelei,” “The Grand Illusion” and “Sing For The Day” — and a brand new track, “Difference In The World.” The track listing for REGENERATION, VOLUME 2 is: “Renegade,” “Blue Collar Man,” “Too Much Time On My Hands,” “Queen Of Spades,” “Coming Of Age” (Damn Yankees), “High Enough” (Damn Yankees), “Snowblind,” “Miss America.” Both volumes will be available for sale at every stop along the tour route.

Yes’ performance will feature the title track from their new album FLY FROM HERE as well as the hugely successful and indelible catalogue of music from hit albums such as DRAMA, FRAGILE, CLOSE TO THE EDGE and 90125. Classics such as “Roundabout,” a seminal hit which consistently appears on “the best songs of all-time” lists, and the group’s #1 hit “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” are sure to be featured for an evening of music not to be missed.

Yes’ remarkable career has served to redefine the boundaries of rock for more than four decades, Yes has played the role as a dominant driving music force selling over 30 million albums, reaching platinum status multiple times worldwide. Their symphonic use of sound and innovative musical styles have made each of the group’s players a virtuoso in his own right.

Sawned from a suburban Chicago basement in the early ’70s, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late ’70s and early ’80s, due to a fondness for big rockers and soaring power ballads. Over the course of their 38-year career they’ve released 15 studio albums, six best-of compilations and four live albums, garnering eight Top Ten singles. Styx has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Throughout their illustrious career, they’ve performed more live shows since 1999 than all of the previous years of its career combined. Two Super Bowl appearances, Pollstar box office chart-topping tours with Def Leppard, Journey, Boston, REO Speedwagon and Bad Company (to name only a few), two more studio albums and no end in sight, Styx continues to conquer the planet, one venue at a time.

*** PRESS RELEASE #5 ***

It’s 1989 again — at least for 46 minutes and 34 seconds. With his new band Beautiful Beast, German singer and guitarist Julian Angel has recorded a late-’80s styled album that features melodic hard rock, hair metal, AOR, glam and sleaze with a common denominator. “It’s a party rock album with style,” says Angel who made sure the music always meets ’80s quality requirements such as catchy hooklines, big choirs, virtuoso guitar solos and thundering drums.

After a few delays caused by illness and mixing engineer Rolf Munkes’ (Empire, Tony Martin Band) full schedule Beautiful Beast’s ADULT ORIENTED CANDY has finally been officially released on April 8, 2011 following an exciting release countdown on several social networks.

While the band has recruited a few select music outlets by fans’ demand for an exclusive pre-sale, the album is now available through well-known style-related online stores and download services.

-Amon Amarth: SURTUR RISING First-Week Sales Revealed

SURTUR RISING, the latest studio album from Swedish death metal tyrants Amon Amarth, sold approximately 15,000 copies in the United States landing the band the #34 on the Billboard Top 200, #6 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums, #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Music Albums and #10 on the Indy/Small Chain Core Store Chart. The record entered Austria’s Top 40 Chart at #12 and Switzerland’s Top 100 at #20. In Germany, SURTUR RISING sold over 14,000 units, entered the Top 100 Chart at #8 and is in the official Media Mark Charts at #14 in its second week.

In addition, SURTUR RISING came in at #19 on Canada’s Top 200 Chart, #5 on the Independent Charts and #2 on Hard Charts. The record is #1 in Canada on iTunes’ Top Metal albums, and also charted on the following: #16 Top 200, #3 Top Rock and #1 Top Metal. In the U.S., the record ranked in at #2 on iTunes’ Rock Album chart and #20 in the Top 200 (overall album chart).

Released on March 29 via Metal Blade Records, SURTUR RISING is Amon Amarth’s eighth studio offering in a winding discography that’s helped shape the very face of epic, Viking-inspired death metal. Named in tribute to Surtur, leader of the fire giants of Muspelheim (“flame land”) and the oldest being in the nine worlds of Norse mythology, the record was recorded, mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios Örebro, Sweden with Jens Bogren and bears the striking cover art by Tom Thiel.

The mammoth long-player has been reaping incredible praise from critics nationwide. In a 9/10 review, Blabbermouth compared SURTUR RISING to being “…bludgeoned by your favorite warhammer. Definitely a contender for this year’s best.” Fearnet called it a “feast of world-destroying metal on par with the band’s career-defining 2008 release TWILIGHT OF THE THUNDER GOD,” while Decibel Magazine commended the band noting “it’s a pleasure to learn one of metal’s most consistent bands remains as indefatigable as ever.” Pop Matters called the record “…another momentous album for Amon Amarth, leaving no doubt that they are one of the best metal bands in the world!,” and Live-Metal agreed: “…one of the strongest, most massively heavy death metal bands around…”

In conjunction with SURTUR RISING’s release, Amon Amarth will make their way to the US for a near two-week stretch of live dates later this month. Dubbed “An Evening With Amon Amarth,” this special trek will find the band performing two separate sets each night: one which will feature SURTUR RISING in its entirety and another boasting a collection of songs from previous releases. -Seidr: Debut Album Details Revealed

Indie metal entity The Flenser, who recently announced the signing of Louisville, Kentucky’s avant-doom unit Seidr to their potent label roster, today confirm more info on the band’s debut full-length, FOR WINTER FIRE.

A slight post-metal atmospheric edge envelops the otherwise crushing tectonic force of the album’s blackened-doom core. Set for official release in North America on May 24, and in Europe on June 7, eager fans can actually pre-order FOR WINTER FIRE direct from The Flenser at a discount rate for a limited time. Check out an audio sample featuring several clips from the album and pre-order it at http://theflenser.com/?p=510 now.
