-Gamma Ray Announce New Release And Fan-Based Karaoke Contest

Armoury Records proudly unleash the details on the new release from German power metal kings Gamma Ray!

Set for release in the US and Canada on May 31st via Armoury Records/Eagle Rock Entertainment, SKELETONS & MAJESTIES is a collection of songs Gamma Ray gathered from previous albums represented in two completely different styles. The purpose of the disc is simply to have fun, and to give fans a heads-up on what is in store for the band in the coming months, as well as involve their fans in the upcoming actions.

The first two tracks are the “Skeletons,” featuring brand new versions of some of Gamma Ray’s songs rarely (if ever) played live, including “Hold Your Ground” (from their HEADING FOR TOMORROW album) and “Brothers” (from the INSANITY AND GENIUS album). The second section, “Majesties,” is where the band display two more new versions of rarities, “Send Me A Sign (originally on the POWERPLANT release) and “Rebellion In Dreamland” (originally on LAND OF THE FREE), both performed in a new acoustic presentation.

Additionally, Gamma Ray have also included some bonus tracks, including the ultra rare track “Wannabees” — previously only released on the “To The Metal!” 7″, and available here on CD for the first time — as well as an extended version of “Brothers.”

And to top it off, the final track on the EP is another version of “Rebellion In Dreamland,” this time KARAOKE style! The band have launched a special contest, where they’ll be integrating a “choir” of their fans’ voices on the upcoming album version of the song! Diehards and wailers can take part in the competition by submitting a recording of their version of the song via physical demo submission or digital sound file. Full album details are available at:

1. Hold Your Ground
2. Brothers

3. Send Me A Sign
4. Rebellion In Dreamland

Bonus Tracks:
5. Wannabees
6. Brothers (extended version)
7. Rebellion In Dreamland (Karaoke version)

Stay tuned for much more updates on Gamma Ray over the coming months as they are planning a Summer tour where they’ll be filming in HD for a brand new live DVD/CD to be released later in the year.

-Lillian Axe Announces Their New Singer And New Single

[Note: This is from LillianAxe.com. – Tim]

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame members Lillian Axe are proud to announce Jackson, Mississippi, native Brian Jones, as their new lead vocalist. Steve Blaze, lead guitarist and band founder says “We have spent the last six months searching for and reviewing candidates to the point of driving us crazy.” Blaze continues, “Choosing your front man is the most vital task in a band’s existence, so we really took our time to make sure that the person we chose fit every category to the best of their abilities. Brian is a complete breath of fresh air. He is an amazing talent, as well as a fireball of enthusiasm, which has really sparked the attitudes of the rest of us.”

Jones, vocalist for the bands Guns Of Addiction and Full Moon Circus, as well as guitarist for Wind-Up Artist Papercut Massacre, approached Blaze for the job in September. He states, “When I initially approached Steve about the possibility of becoming the new vocalist for Lillian Axe, I honestly didn’t know what to think and had a plethora of thoughts running amok in my head. Having been a lifelong fan of the band and looking to Steve as a mentor for so many years, coupled with the fact that I was being asked to audition for one of my favorite bands, was a bit much to take in. I knew this was what I wanted to do and have been playing now for over 20 years, but I never would have imagined I’d be playing with Lillian Axe. The guys have been amazing and have taken me in quite nicely. I look forward to the many years to come and to the new music that we will be sharing with the fans.”

The Axe has commenced recording their eleventh album at Sound Landing Studios in Covington, Louisiana with the team of Steve Blaze as producer and Rob Hovey as engineer, due for a September 27, 2011 release via Love And War Records / Mega Force Records / Sony Red Distribution. The first track, “Take The Bullet,” will be available for download on April 12. Says Blaze, “‘Take The Bullet’ is a very special song for us. Several months ago, I received an email from Air Force Major Henry Cecil, who was stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan. He expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the dedication to the troops on our last album, DEEP RED SHADOWS. He proceeded to send me an American Flag that had traveled on several helicopter missions, official patches, coins, autographs from his squadron, and even a copy of DEEP RED SHADOWS autographed by General David Petraeus himself. We were incredibly honored and humbled, and since then, I have become good friends with Major Cecil. Several weeks ago, he drove to Covington and spent two days in the studio with us as we recorded ‘Take The Bullet.’ I wrote this song in dedication to our troops for their heroic sacrifice for our country and their display of true brotherhood.”

Air Force Major Henry Cecil says, “I’ve been following Lillian Axe since 1987 and after reading the last page of the new CD’s liner notes, I immediately sent Steve an email thanking him from a longtime fan and that I was having a flag flown over Afghanistan, accompanied by the CD. I mailed the flag to Steve on 9-11-10 and included patches from the squadrons that took the flag on their missions, as well as an ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) coin to tie everything together that is in the display case for the flag. During my deployment, I had the honor to work with General Petraeus’ security team and made friends with them. I asked if they could have the General sign the liner notes to say thanks to Steve and he did. Steve and I have become great friends from this and we talk on a regular basis now. He invited me to watch Lillian Axe record ‘Take The Bullet,’ and I can honestly say I was speechless after watching it all come together and couldn’t believe I was actually getting to watch them in the studio. It was truly an honor I will never forget.”

The month of April will be a busy one for the band. “Take The Bullet” will be released for download on April 12, introducing the voice of Jones. Also, Cuba Gooding, Jr.’s new movie, “The Hit List,” will feature “47 Ways To Die” as the opening song to the movie. The band will play six dates in the South to support DEEP RED SHADOWS and celebrate their ten-album history.

Blaze states, “It gets more and more difficult to put together a set list as we keep creating more and more music; however, this tour will bring new songs and new production as we start this new chapter in the history of Lillian Axe.”

Lillian Axe Headline Tour Dates:

04/08 – HOWLIN’ WOLF CLUB in New Orleans, LA
04/09 – CLUB FIRE in Jackson, MS
04/15 – RIVERSIDE WAREHOUSE in Shreveport, LA

-HammerFall — New Album Details!

On May, 20th, HammerFall is going to release their new album called INFECTED. Laying down the foundation themselves in their own studio in Sweden, the band then traveled to Nashville, TN, to finish it up with acclaimed producer James Michael (Motley Crue, Scorpions, Meat Loaf). He also mixed the album, giving it a decisive updated edge without losing anything of the essence of the band. “James helped us create something that was new and exciting while still in the line of our heritage,” Oscar Dronjak, guitar player and founder of the band, explains.

“Never before have we sounded this fresh and up to date without losing the essence of what HammerFall is all about: Pure ‘Infected’ Heavy Metal!” comments vocalist and front man Joacim Cans.

“You will experience us like you’ve never done before! We’ve got a lot of fresh influences shining through in the music, but everything you love about HammerFall will still be there,” says Oscar. “This is HammerFall in 2011, the legend has been reborn!”

On March 12th, the album was introduced for the first time to an international group of press people in Göteborg, where the album received a great response. Metal Hammer Spain calls it “the HammerFall of the future,” while British Powerplay Magazine comments: “INFECTED will have the name HammerFall spreading like a virus. Prepare for an epidemic!”

The album consists 11 songs, and the limited first edition will also include a bonus DVD with unreleased video material of five of the INFECTED tracks.

A compete track listing of the album reads as follows:

666 – The Enemy Within
Let’s Get It On

The first single will be “One More Time,” released on April 6th, digital only. A video will be shot by Patrick Ullaeus, who is also responsible for the cover artwork of INFECTED.

We are surely very sad but we also know that for this same reason the upcoming release will remain in the history of the band for its artistic importance and unique epic!” – Rhapsody Of Fire

Lion Music Celebrates 300th Release On 15th April 2011 Of Lars Eric Mattsson’s AURORA BOREALIS

Artist: Lars Eric Mattsson
Released: April 15, 2011
Catalogue: LMC300 / EAN6419922003008
Format: CD / Digital Download

Promo page at http://www.lionmusic.com/cd/auroraborealis.htm

Marking Lion Music’s 300th release, guitar virtuoso / composer Lars Eric Mattsson returns with the ultimate neo-classical experience in which metal and rock guitar, bass and drums meets classical music for the harmoniously rich AURORA BOREALIS.

This new wholly instrumental 12-track release takes a fresh approach to the blend of guitar and orchestra for a musical experience as uplifting as seeing the wonder of the northern lights, from which the album gets its title.

Whilst the combination of orchestra and guitar may have been done before by, amongst others, one of Mattsson’s influences Uli Jon Roth, AURORA BOREALIS takes the range of sound and expressions further that what has been heard before and places as much emphasis on each tracks backing as with its guitar work. The result is a highly captivating and listenable experience. Lush in textures and timbres, AURORA BOREALIS comes across at times like a film score; sometimes fast and exotic whilst at others sweet and luxurious. Many moods are covered and all of which see Mattsson deliver impassioned guitar work in his own inimitable style.

Mattsson made a big point during the album’s compositional stage to deliver an album that could theoretically be performed live within the right setting. To achieve this there is only ever one guitar heard at a time, sometimes playing the lead part but not always. Lars Eric Mattsson comments, “I tried to compose the music with enough variations and the right flow from start to end and keep things listenable by using the right arrangements.”

To ensure his guitar would work as cleanly as possible with the orchestral parts Mattsson kept his signal chain as pure as possible with only the occasional wah pedal between guitar and amp (with some delay and reverb added in post production). The result is a clean sounding release with strong dynamics and a wide tonal palette.

Despite its relative complexity AURORA BOREALIS may well be easier on the listener than some of his previous vocal progressive metal releases such as 2010’s critically acclaimed Mattsson – TANGO, although Lars concedes with a smile, “It might sound less complex though I am not sure it actually is!”

As a final comment when asked to sum up the new release Mattsson responds, “Classical music and rock has been mixed before with various results but never this way, I tried to create something very unique and I don’t think it’s fair to label this as just another instrumental guitar album.”

AURORA BOREALIS sees Lars Eric Mattsson almost halfway through his third decade in the music business with a new release that is testament to his vision and appetite to ever expand his musical horizons and does so in fine style.

AURORA BOREALIS sees release on Lion Music on 15th April 2010.

Leaves’ Eyes – MEREDEAD

Leaves’ Eyes: Unmistakably different.. With their fourth album, MEREDEAD, the four-nation formation unleashes a tidal wave that will leave the music world breathless. The opening number, “Spirits’ Masquerade,” impressively showcases the endless possibilities inherent in the symphonic metal genre. More than ever before, folk instrumentation refines the album’s varied sound. The epic tracks “Étaín” and “Sigrlinn” lyrically recount the mysticism of past cultures and are supported by uileann pipes, which also catapult the listener into this very magical world. Liv Kristine’s first-class vocals on the more traditional songs, “Nystev” and “Kråkevisa,” lead the way to her Norwegian homeland. The latter makes use of the Scandinavian nyckelharpa, or keyed fiddle. The flawless rock song “Velvet Heart” walks a fine line between clear structure and epic atmosphere. With the chilling new interpretation of “To France,” Leaves’ Eyes evokes the tragedy and emotion of Mike Oldfield’s classic track. Leaves’ Eyes, along with a choir and an army of guest musicians, delivers top-notch entertainment. Maite Itoiz and John Kelly (Elfenthal), Carmen Elise Espenæs (Midnattsol), the Norwegian Anette Guldbrandsen, and Viktor Smolski’s brilliant Lingua Mortis Orchestra serve to further enrich this masterpiece. Yet, Leaves’ Eyes has always offered more than just a musical broadening of the horizon. Liv Kristine’s use of Old English and Norwegian lyrics narrates fascinating sagas, bringing the listener even closer to a long-forgotten era. Whether a gentle ballad or an opulent opus, the tracks are direct and to the point. With the band’s strength and courage, as well as an unorthodox variety, Leaves’ Eyes has unequivocally reinvented itself. Refusing to be categorized, Leaves’ Eyes dictates its own direction, and with MEREDEAD ultimately achieves symphonic metal perfection. / Robert Suß

Midnattsol captures the imagination of their fans for the third time by whisking them away to the magical world of Nordic legends and sagas. The band, spearheaded by vocalist Carmen Elise Espenaes, continues to refine their characteristic sound and delivers a new jewel to the Gothic Metal scene. METAMORPHOSIS MELODY is a charming collection of songs that sway among the harder tendencies of metal and the soothing melodies of atmospheric bliss. Heavy guitar riffs and thundering drums meet the emotive vocal lines and dreamy interludes that Carmen makes her own, while the rest of the band, notwithstanding, ennoble the tracks such as “Spellbound” or the beautiful ballad “Goodbye” with their musical expertise. The special magic of METAMORPHOSIS MELODY is masterfully accentuated by Markus Stock (Empyrium, The Vision Bleak) of Klangschmiede Studio E, whose know-how allowed each instrument and vocal line just enough room to unfold. Midnattsol has created an impressive and very charming album, which shines as brightly and mysteriously as the aurora borealis. The limited edition first pressing digi-pak includes a bonus DVD (LIVE AT THE METAL FEMALE VOICES FESTIVAL 2009).

“We are really stoked and happy for the opportunity to work with one of the biggest record labels of the independent scene and to be part of the label’s impressive roster. We think this will help reach the next level. From being a one-man-operation over 15 years ago, and having been able to expand during the difficult times in this industry shows their seriousness and ability. We have high expectations and are really looking forward to be part of the Napalm family, as well as to deliver some beautiful albums. Blues, grooves and a bottle of booze…”

Thulcandra issued an update with regard to their upcoming full-length UNDER A FROZEN SUN!

“Today we finished laying the last guitar tracks for UNDER A FROZEN SUN at Woodshed Studios, Germany, alongside producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Obscura, Pestilence). Seven songs, a few interludes, and a cover of Unanimated’s timeless classic ‘Life Demise’ were recorded within the last few weeks. The new material is even more epic and features more guitar tracks, much more attention to detail including the use of full choirs, acoustic guitars, and guest appearances that will be announced very soon. Kristian, the Necorlord, Wåhlin will again take on the artwork. UNDER A FROZEN SUN, our second full-length album, was recorded in the vein of the death & black metal of the early ’90s and inspired by Dissection, Unanimated, Sacramentum, & Vinterland.”

“This is a must for all fans of Threshold, Circus Maximus, Pagan’s Mind, and Seventh Wonder.”

A new generation of Progressive Metal has been born in Wales by the up and coming Lost In Thought. Lost In Thought formed in late 2007 when David Grey and Simon Pike embarked on a quest to find other musicians to compose and perform progressive-tinged music with. Linking with Greg Baker and Chris Billingham, they soon became a force to be reckoned with in their home of UK.

After completing their lineup with vocalist Nate Loosemore, the band recorded a demo EP early in 2010, immediately grabbing the attention of well-renowned booking and management company Intromental Worldwide.

Setting out to write and record their debut album in the fall of 2010, the band realized that they had been composing eight songs that weren’t just of “newcomer status,” but really were of as high quality as any contemporary progressive metal album out there. Sweden’s Inner Wound Recordings label recognised the talent and potential, and signed the band for a spring 2011 release.

The debut album, OPUS ARISE, was recorded at home in Wales, and sent off to Denmark to be mastered by Jacob Hansen (known for Volbeat, Mercenary, Destruction, Pretty Maids, Rob Rock, a.o).

The band has a wide variety of musical influences, which is incorporated in their music. Combining the elements of progressive rock/metal, melodic metal-core, and symphonic metal to create their unique and epic sound. From all these musical elements, Lost In Thought’s music consists of both heavy and distinct riffs, large orchestrations, melodic guitar and keyboard unisons, epic vocal melodies, variable time signatures, and dynamic ballad sections.

At the same day the debut album OPUS ARISE is released, the band will embark on a one month long tour supporting Delain and Serenity at venues across Europe. Do not miss out on this exciting new band!

-Taz Taylor Band Presents A Rockin’ Saturday Night Benefit Concert With Legendary Rockers Skid Row On April 2

Proceeds From Ticket Sales Will Be Donated To The Red Cross To Aid Relief Efforts In Japan

Instrumental rockers Taz Taylor Band are teaming up with rock legends Skid Row for an eclectic classic rock show at the 4th & B club in San Diego. The band will take the stage on Saturday, April 2 in support of their latest full-length album, BIG DUMB ROCK.

Fans excited to see the one-night event will also help a charitable cause — in light of the recent devastation in Japan, TTB is donating a third of their ticket sales to benefit the Red Cross relief efforts. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.taztaylor.com/ .

The ten-track rock album boasts a unique set of instrumental guitar driven songs with quirky titles such as “Hornitos Concerto” (named for the tequila), “Dog Breath,” and cleverly makes reference to the fact that it takes “11 Years” for a “Blue Agave” plant to mature before it is made into tequila.

Even their latest LP’s moniker has both fans and newcomers wondering where the forthright title comes from. Guitarist Taz Taylor says: “It’s all about the accessibility of [our] music to rock fans, not just hardcore guitar heads and students.”

-Zeroking Releases Debut Single, “Stone Cold Bitch”

HUNTINGTON, WV — On the rise hard rock act Zeroking have just released their debut single, “Stone Cold Bitch” (b/w “Girls Of California”) digitally on Wednesday, 16 March through newly formed Vanity Music Group.

One of the top drawing bands in the Mid Atlantic region, the Huntington, WV based quartet has shared the stage with Bobaflex, Nonpoint, and Saving Abel, amongst others. Rock Addict Radio voters chose Zeroking “Top Metal Band Of 2010” even though the band didn’t even have any current product on the shelves yet.

Culled from the band’s upcoming sophomore album, KINGS OF SELF DESTRUCTION, “Stone Cold Bitch” was produced by the band and Steve Riley and is a raucous blast of energy, politically incorrect and controversial, with a chorus that has quickly become a sing-along fan favorite. “Girls Of California” is instantly infectious featuring Slipknot style heaviness and Beach Boys influenced harmonies, that attempts to quantify at least one way you know are “bound for stardom,” but you’ll have to listen to the lyrics to find out for yourself.

“We’ve been working and perfecting these tunes since right after we played Rocklahoma 2009 and it feels great for people to finally get to hear this record,” vocalist Andy Haught states. “While I don’t think these encompass the entire scope of the 13 songs on KOSD, I do feel these two songs are a great introduction to our energy and vibe, and I can’t wait for people to hear the rest of the record when we finalize our release details.”

The single is available from iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, eMusic, and other legal download sites.

Llexi Leon is the creator of multimedia concept Eternal Descent — which began making noise in London, England in 2005. His highly intricate guitar style exhibits the many influences corralled to create his intense sound — from classical, flamenco, electronic, and ambient genres to the more prominent genres of rock and metal. Fusing these genres into one, Leon created a cinematic fantasia to accompany the ongoing Eternal Descent comic series, which launched March 2010 from IDW Publishing. Leon’s love of music is only matched by his passion for comic books and animation — bringing stories to life through escapism, utilizing everyday events and a vivid imagination to create ongoing sagas of art, narrative, and sound. Working closely with major names in the music and comic industries, Eternal Descent continues to expand globally in both areas. A slate of 2011 releases include comics, interactive media, novels, music, and signature musical instruments. Headline recording artists Atreyu, Firewind, Shadows Fall, Static X, and more, have appeared in the Eternal Descent comic series so far, with many set to collaborate on the new album.

2. G.U.T
3. Multiverse
4. End Of Infinity
5. Transfection
6. Clean Room
7. Currents
8. Traveler
9. Ego Machine
10. Being No One
11. Entanglement
12. Mindsteps

Once again, Believer tapped into the artistic genius of Michael Rosner and Eye Level Studio to produce the TRANSHUMAN artwork and layout. “We wanted to work with Roz again on TRANSHUMAN as our visions of combining art and music truly parallel. He just gets it and his artwork is outside the typical box in a way that we strive for musically. It is an amazing collaboration that we have with Roz that continues to evolve. We are excited for everyone to see the final layout!”

The band continues: “Sonically we’re extremely happy with this album and can’t wait for other people to hear it. We feel like this is a really strong and unique album in the Believer catalogue and it’s something we’re definitely proud of.

“So what will you hear? We focused more on the overall musicality which included more instrumental layers than we used before. The vocals were also more of a focus as we have had much feedback throughout the years, specifically to get out of the one dimensional realm. Kurt wanted the vocals to be more complementary to the overall tune feel, so he used many facets of his vocal abilities. As with all Believer albums, this one is definitely unique.”

Transhumanism: The study of the ramifications, promises, and potential dangers of technologies that will enable us to overcome fundamental human limitations, and the related study of the ethical matters involved in developing and using such technologies.

Believer is:
Kurt Bachman – guitars/vocals
Joey Daub – drums
Jeff King – keyboards/guitars
Kevin Leaman – guitars

-The Last Act “Blew Me Away”

CALGARY, AB — From Philly Roach, “The Distillery” Owner and Operator who reported… “I’ve been promoting for years, and I see approx. 20 bands a week. I rarely get blown away by an unknown band, and The Last Act blew me away! That’s the truth!”

The Last Act is no longer an “unknown band” after touring Western Canada over the last several months. Having the dance floor packed all night long at venue after venue and leaving their fans wanting multiple encores has left quite an impression — again and again. They have had a string of these types of successful events with a list of ecstatic testimonials — and the events are only getting better!

Rave reviews of the outstanding original music these guys are doing and the amazing show that gets put on every time they play is creating quite the buzz surrounding this four-piece wonder!

The re-release of STILL STANDING is out. This is “version 2” of the same disc, completely re-mixed and re-mastered and has large chunks of it re-recorded. Due to problems with production and the previous mix/mastering, it was decided by the band to redo the entire disc. And it’s a good thing… WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Anyone who has the first disc should be happy though as it has now become a collector’s item: there will only ever be 1,000 of those in existence as no more of the original disc (version 1) will be manufactured.

The North American Defiance Tour 2010-11 was started early 2010 following the initial release of their third CD titled STILL STANDING on March 6, 2010, with the first leg hitting mid-size venues in major centers across Canada. The tour has been put on hold while the band gets back into live gig shape with a new drummer, Taylor Sanderson. This was due to the unexpected resignation of their last drummer Andrew Whiting (who appears on the disc) during the summer of 2010. There was an extensive search completed by TLA for a new drummer, and Taylor came out on top.

-BloodBound — guitarists Tomas Olsson and Henrik Olsson, bassist Anders Broman, keyboardist Fredrik Bergh, drummer Pelle Åkerlind, and new singer Patrik Johansson (Dawn Of Silence) — has released UNHOLY CROSS on AFM Records. Track list: “Moria,” “Drop The Bomb,” “The Ones We Left Behind,” “Reflections Of Evil,” “In For The Kill,” “Together We Fight,” “The Dark Side Of Life,” “Brothers Of War,” “Message From Hell,” “In The Dead Of Night,” “Unholy Cross.” Hype says that “after their short brush with Power Metal, their motto is ‘back to the roots’ once again. Patrik Johansson’s voice, very similar to Dio’s, is an asset for the combo’s classic riffs and rhythms. Great melodies, great riffs, and basically great compositions with a high degree of catchiness — those are the trademarks of a band fortunately not interested in musical trends.” Check out clips of three songs at http://musicbuymail.eu/?i=33417 , and see http://www.bloodbound.se/ and http://www.myspace.com/bloodboundonline for more.

-Demon’s Eye, the acclaimed Deep Purple tribute band, has a new album of original material out called THE STRANGER WITHIN. The disc features Doogie White (Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen) on vocals. Track list: “The Unknown Stranger,” “Sins Of The Father,” “The Best Of Times,” “Ain’t Nothing Better,” “Evil Comes This Way,” “Heaven Again,” “A Foolish Man,” “Midnight In Heaven Or Hell,” “Far Over The Rainbow,” “Brand New Life,” “Le Vent Lament,” “The Best Of Times” (extended version). Hype says the album “will be still stylistically reminiscent of Deep Purple and Rainbow, however, it include new compositions and nothing sounds plagiarized. Demon’s Eye hope to give the Deep Purple and Rainbow fans with THE STRANGER WITHIN what they would like to hear today from Ritchie Blackmore and Co., but won’t get anymore from them.” Check out clips of three songs at http://musicbuymail.eu/?i=33419 , and the album’s promo video at http://www.demonseye.com/ . Also, autographed copies of the CD are available from Demon’s Eye’s online shop. The band will make a short promotional tour through Belgium and Germany next month as follows:

4/7 – BE-3600, Genk, Belgium
4/8 – Dortmund, Germany
4/9 – Siegen, Germany
4/14 – Bonn, Germany
4/15 – Solingen, Germany

Singers James LaBrie (Dream Theater) and Andi Deris (Helloween) guest on the album, on the tracks “No Holy Man” (the first single) and “Black Widow,” respectively. Track list: “Trinitas Sanctus” (intro), “Trinity,” “Saints Of Tomorrow,” “No Holy Man” (feat. James LaBrie), “Guardian Angel,” “Can’t Fool The Devil,” “Rivers Of Destiny,” “Dare To Be Different,” “Children Of The Tide,” “Black Widow” (feat. The band reunited with guitarist Mark McGee on two songs, and the disc features additional guest spots from Brad Gillis (Night Ranger) and Eric Peterson (Testament). Track list: “Murderball,” “Black,” “Razorback Blade,” “Blood Stained Sunday,” “Pearl Of Wisdom,” “All I Want Is You,” “Axe To Grind,” “Let The Garden Burn,” “Rite Of Devastation,” “Deal With The Devil.” Hype says the band is “taking a much needed step . . . back towards their US Power Metal roots,” and that “each and every track on this molten power metaller is penned to perfection.” The band is set to headline Keep It True festival in Germany next month, with a “Tribute to Carl Albert” that will feature Carl Albert’s son Kevin, and former members Mark McGee and Tommy Sisco. Ye Olde Metal! Long before contemporaries such as Evergrey and Arch Enemy were representing Sweden with their brand of metal, the likes of 220 Volt, Torch, and Overdrive were exporting deliciously heavy riffs from the Land Of The Midnight Sun. ANGELMAKER is Overdrive’s second album since their return to the scene in 2008, and it’s a cracking good feast of traditional headbanging sure to delight longtime fans as well as more recent converts. The first part of the album features several memorable rockers including a well executed remake of Russ Ballard’s “I Know There’s Something Going On” (a hit for Abba’s Frida in 1982), but it’s the material comprising the second half that really delivers the vintage crunch. Check out Viking rugged tracks “See The Light,” “Mother Earth,” and “It’s A Thriller” for some Accept worthy riffs, slippery solos, and the unique vocal attack of Per Karlsson. Of course a lot of ANGELMAKER will sound familiar to the ear but when it’s done this well I never tire of hearing it, do you? Volume on 11 and steins up!!!
