-Accept Commence World Tour 2011!

Friday, January 14th 2011 marked the start of Accept’s long anticipated BLOOD OF THE NATIONS world tour. The new tour is named after the band’s highly successful and critically praised comeback album BLOOD OF THE NATIONS and includes shows in 24 countries around Europe, North America, Canada, Latin and South America. This mammoth 80-show trek marathon commenced in Osnabrück, Germany at the Gartlage Hall.

Accept have crisscrossed the globe with little interruption since May of 2010. By the time June 2011 and the final shows of this tour come around, Accept will have played more than 120 shows over 12 months, elevating their status as one of Germany’s most relevant and important rock exports. There have already been numerous high-points along the way: The blistering stadium shows supporting AC/DC in Hannover and Stuttgart, their headliner appearances at the Sonisphere Festivals in Bucharest and Istanbul, the spectacular “secret” guest spot at the Rock Hard Festival 2010, not the least their scorching performance at Japan’s largest indoor festival Loudpark 2010 in Tokyo. Throughout all these shows, Accept have once again confirmed to their large army of fans that they are indeed one of the most productive and dominant live metal acts on the international hard rock scene.

The best-selling album BLOOD OF THE NATIONS has concluded 2010 by receiving the proud designation of “Album Of The Year” in most leading rock media outlets in the States, Canada, South America and many European territories. With this colossal success, Accept have quickly bridged their 17-year long recording inactivity with amazing simplicity and have given their old and new fans the most successful comeback in metal history. The live shows offered by the prolific lineup of Wolf Hoffmann, Mark Tornillo, Peter Baltes, Hermann Frank and Stefan Schwarzmann will offer an explosive mix of legendary classics like “Balls To The Wall” and “Metal Heart” mixed in with new hard rock highlights like the sensational “Teutonic Terror,” the hard-hitting “Pandemic” and the colossal “The Abyss.” It is a spectacle not to be missed!

-Whitesnake To Release Their Much Anticipated New Album FOREVERMORE

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Whitesnake, the legendary rock ‘n’ roll legacy founded and formed by renowned singer/songwriter David Coverdale, unleashes a brand new storming ‘Snake statement, FOREVERMORE on Frontiers Records on March 25th in Europe and March 29th in North America.

Their 11th studio album, FOREVERMORE was recorded, produced and mixed by Coverdale, guitarist Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre at Snakebyte Studios and Grumblenott Studios & Villas in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, with additional work at Casa Dala, Sherman Oaks, CA, and Whitesnake will take to the road for a full world tour in support of the release.

Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary Coverdale, Whitesnake carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock ‘n’ roll bands. Coverdale’s blues and soul roots, combined with a feral sense of rock and roll, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound, and add to that Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship and you have a failsafe recipe for success.

Their ascent to the very top of the rock ‘n’ roll tree was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two top 10 hits, two number one singles with “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love,” and a virtual 24-hour domination of MTV around the world. Such triumphs were surely foretold when as a young man from Saltburn-By-Sea; Coverdale enthusiastically answered the call to be Deep Purple’s singer. Such bombast, bravado, talent and passion have thus helped establish Whitesnake as the perennial platinum favorite they have become.

With FOREVERMORE Coverdale has reignited an explosively fruitful vein of creativity with guitarist and co-writer/producer Aldrich, Reb Beach (Winger, Alice Cooper) on guitar, Brian Tichy (Ozzy, Billy Idol, Foreigner) on drums, and Michael Devin (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lynch Mob) on bass, and as with all Whitesnake’s albums, Coverdale aided so capably by Aldrich opens up his heart and soul to express emotions and empathy rarely heard these days in any musical genre.

More than simply their latest release, FOREVERMORE represents Whitesnake’s no-holds-barred, most heartfelt, melodic and musically muscular excursion for many a year.

The album’s release will be anticipated by the digital only release of the first single/video clip “Love Will Set You Free” on February 21st.

FOREVERMORE will be specially released on a “Snake Pack” edition for the first three weeks in England only. This very special release — arranged in conjunction with Future Publishing and Classic Rock magazine — will come with a collector’s edition 132-page deluxe magazine + A1 poster & metal pin badge and shall feature an exclusive cover art and two bonus live tracks “Slide It In” and “Cheap An’ Nasty,” which will serve as an appetizer for the forthcoming LIVE @ DONINGTON 1990 to be released in the summer 2011.

The album is also being released on a double gatefold vinyl format, with deluxe special editions to be announced shortly.

This time Coverdale and Co. have really laid it on the line for their fans, and be sure of this, the Snake’s charms are going to convert a whole new army of believers… just watch.

FOREVERMORE will include the following songs:

Steal Your Heart Away; All Out Of Luck; Love Will Set You Free; Easier Said Than Done; Tell Me How; I Need You (Shine A Light); One Of These Days; Love And Treat Me Right; Dogs In The Street; Fare Thee Well; Whipping Boy Blues; My Evil Ways; Forevermore.

Whitesnake is:

David Coverdale – vocals
Doug Aldrich – guitar
Reb Beach – guitars
Michael Devin – bass
Brian Tichy – drums

Produced by Los Bros Brutalos (David Coverdale, Doug Aldrich, Michael McIntyre)

-Legendary Guitarist Michael Schenker Recruits Drum Icon Carmine Appice For History-Making South American Tour Dates

Legendary Drummer Joins Forces With MSG For Brazil, Argentina Shows

“Michael Schenker’s guitar playing has left an indelible mark on rock and roll history.” – Ultimate Guitar

“Carmine Appice set the foundation for heavy drumming before John Bonham, before Ian Paice, before anyone else.” – Rick van Horn, Modern Drummer

LOS ANGELES, CA — Legendary guitarist Michael Schenker will join forces with drum icon Carmine Appice for tour dates in South America near the end of February. The two popular icons successfully toured the USA last Summer. The band lineup also includes Gary Barden – vocals; Elliott “Dean” Rubinson – bass (July tour dates): Rev Jones – bass (August tour dates); and Wayne Findlay – guitars and keyboards. Ten specially priced VIP tickets will be sold for each concert which will allow attendees to hang out with Appice and Schenker during soundcheck and after the concert. More VIP ticket information can be found at http://www.serge.org/msgviptickets.htm .

Tour dates in South America include:

FEB 24 2011 – Bolshoi Pub – Goiânia – BRAZIL
FEB 25 2011 – Manifesto Rock Bar – Sao Paulo – BRAZIL
FEB 27 2011 – The Roxy – Buenos Aires – ARGENTINA

Hard rock guitarist Michael Schenker is a former member of UFO and a founding member of the Scorpions and the Michael Schenker Group (MSG). He is the younger brother of Rudolf Schenker, guitarist with the Scorpions. Schenker joined UFO under unusual circumstances. The band left the UK to play some dates in Germany. Their guitarist at the time, Bernie Marsden, forgot his passport and was unable to make the first gig. At the venue, UFO spotted Michael playing a soundcheck with the Scorpions and managed to persuade him into playing that evening’s show. And the rest is history…. Eventually, Schenker decided he wanted to play his own music and not be a hired hand for another band. In 1979, he founded the Michael Schenker Group, and the band has been recording and touring as numerous incarnations ever since.

Author, clinician, drummer… Carmine Appice first came to prominence as the percussionist with the late 1960s psychedelic band Vanilla Fudge. He contributed distinctive background harmonies with bassist Tim Bogert, adding to the group’s high decibel sonic assault. After five albums, Appice and Bogert left Vanilla Fudge to form the blues rock quartet Cactus with vocalist Rusty Day and guitarist Jim McCarty. Eventually, Appice left Cactus with Bogert to join Jeff Beck in the power trio Beck, Bogert & Appice, and then later joined Rod Stewart’s backing band in 1977, co-writing hit songs such as “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” and “Young Turks.” In 1978, Appice played drums on Paul Stanley’s first solo album and has recorded with Stanley Clarke and Pink Floyd. He also recorded and toured with Ted Nugent, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Murder, and was the founding member of King Kobra. Fuel Records reissued Carmine Appice’s Guitar Zeus project in August 2009. A new King Kobra CD is slated for release later this year and plans for a Drum Wars tour with brother Vinny are underway.

-Stratovarius Update

[Note: This combines multiple updates. – Tim]

Jörg Michael Returns; Timo Kotipelto Forced To Cancel Shows

In an official message from Stratovarius: “Some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we’re back on the road with Helloween. And Jörg Michael is back in his drum chair after his brush with death.

“The bad news is that Timo Kotipelto caught some sort of bacterial infection. We suspect it was something from the backstage food in December, but we don’t know. Two of the other people on the tour had the same thing: A very bad dysentery-like stomach infection with vomiting and diarrhea, dehydration, also eventually had to go to hospital, etc.

“Timo’s infection is stubborn and in addition to ruining his Christmas break, it has dried out his vocal cords. In his own words, he can’t sing a note at the moment. We are currently in France and so far we had to cancel playing in Paris and Lyon.

“We are of course very sorry about this, and nobody is more heartbroken or frustrated than Timo himself. Apart from heeding the advice from doctors we are in touch with, the only thing we can do at the moment is to hope Timo gets better. We will ride the 1000 km to Bilbao tonight and hopefully we will all get some sleep on the nice smooth French motorways.”

Check out a short video about the Paris cancellation and some words from Jörg at http://www.myspace.com/earsplitpr/blog/541677633 .

-Heavy Metal Greats The Rods Return With A “VENGEANCE”!

One band that many veteran metal heads feel should have hit the big time was New York’s The Rods. Comprised of members David “Rock” Feinstein (guitar/lead vocals), Garry Bordonaro (bass/vocals), and Carl Canedy (drums/vocals), The Rods would go on to open arena shows for such renowned groups as Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne (the BLIZZARD OF OZZ tour), the Scorpions, Rainbow (Joe Lynn Turner era), and during the mid ’80s, even had a then-unknown Metallica opening a headlining tour for them. Add to it the fact that Feinstein is the cousin of the late, great Ronnie James Dio (both played together in Elf) and Canedy is an acclaimed metal producer (having worked on classic early releases by Megadeth, Anthrax, Overkill, etc.), and it makes it even more baffling why The Rods never got their due.

But this appears to changing quickly, as the trio has signed on with the Niji Entertainment Group, a label that was created by Ronnie James Dio and his wife/manager, Wendy Dio. The band’s seventh release overall (and sixth release overall for Niji) is titled VENGEANCE, and will be released on March 29, 2011. The release comes hot on the heels of Feinstein’s recently-released solo album, BITTEN BY THE BEAST.

The first single off VENGEANCE will be “The Code,” which features vocals from none other than Ronnie James Dio (one of the very last songs that Ronnie ever recorded, before his untimely death in May of 2010). This aforementioned Rods lineup has been rocking and rolling for nearly 30 years, and the group has been officially invited to play SXSW this year in Austin, Texas. More info and tour dates will be announced soon, so get ready to rock once more with The Rods!

VENGEANCE Track Listing:

1. Raise Some Hell
2. I Just Wanna Rock
3. Rebels Highway
4. Ride Free Or Die
5. The Code (Featuring Ronnie James Dio)
6. Livin’ Outside The Law
7. Let It Ripp
8. Fight Fire With Fire
9. Madman
10. Runnin Wild
11. Vengeance

-Hurtsmile: The Latest From Gary Cherone And His Band Of “Brothers” To Release Their Debut Album

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release of Hurtsmile’s self-titled debut album on February 8, 2011 in the US.

Hurtsmile is a new band featuring singer Gary Cherone (Extreme, Van Halen) who has teamed up with his brother Mark to write his most succinct record to date. The self-titled HURTSMILE is a raw sonic sucker punch in the face! From the opening buzz saw riff of “Just War Theory” to the epic finale of “Slave” and “Beyond The Garden/Kicking Against The Goads,” Gary continues to push and poke you in the ear with his lyrically provocative themes.

“Hurtsmile was a long time coming… I always wanted to write a record with my brother,” says Gary. “I’m a big fan of Mark’s song writing and his snarling guitar riffs.” The timing was right as Extreme was in-between their touring and record cycle, leaving Gary the freedom. They recruited Joe Pessia (bass), an alumnus of Nuno Bettencourt’s Dramagods as well as the guitar player for Tantric. Joe also engineered, and co-produced the record with Gary. To round off the lineup they enlisted heavy hitter Dana Spellman on drums. “It’s an east coast-Boston thing,” states Gary. “Mark, my brother, was in a band with Nuno’s brother… Joe was in Nuno’s band and Dana was a friend, and student of Mike Mangini (former Extreme drummer) … we like to keep it in the family.”

The lineup is not the only thing familiar with the band. In true Cherone fashion, the record is chock full of swaggering guitar, soaring vocals and the trademark Cherone eclecticism on tracks such as “Jesus Would You Meet Me,” the reggae-tinged “Just War Reprise,” and the Dylanesque “The Murder Of Daniel Faulkner (4699).” “Hurtsmile was about returning to my roots, writing a record in my basement, a straight up rock ‘n’ roll record… but it turned out to be more diverse and ambitious than I expected.”

Gary is no stranger to taking on intense topics, and HURTSMILE is no exception. The first half of the record is a group of more loosely knit songs such as the cynically inquisitive “Just War Theory,” the limits of free speech “Tolerance Song (edit),” and the disturbingly mesmerizing “Kaffur (Infidel),” inspired by the beheading of Daniel Pearl.

The second half of the record is more conceptually cohesive; an introspective look at the nature of man and the condition of the human heart. “Stillborn” — introduced earlier — and “Set Me Free” both touch on man’s inclination toward darkness, culminating with an epic journey from sin to salvation… “Slave” to “Beyond The Garden/Kicking Against The Goads.”

For the most part both themes are represented as two sides of a record. A concept familiar to Extreme fans but make no mistake, whether reading between the lines or just moved by the visceral power of the music, this is a completely different type of record. Gary adds, “All the boys in the band have brought something new to the table, and you’ll never know what hit you!”

HURTSMILE’s track listing includes:

Just War Theory; Stillborn; Love Thy Neighbor; Kaffur (Infidel); Painter Paint; Tolerance Song (Edit); Set Me Free; Jesus Would You Meet Me; Slave; Beyond The Garden / Kicking Against The Goads; Just War Reprise; The Murder Of Daniel Faulkner (4699).

The songs “Just War Theory” and “Love Thy Neighbor” can exclusively be listened in full in streaming on the Frontiers Web radio. Tune in at http://www.frontiers.it/webradio .

Joe Pessia – Bass, Mandolin

-Nelson Announces U.S. Release Date For New Album LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE

Special Guest: Steve Lukather

Marks AFTER THE RAIN 20th Anniversary With Critically Acclaimed Sequel Release

LOS ANGELES, CA — Multi-platinum recording artists Nelson led by twin lead front men Matthew & Gunnar Nelson announced the U.S. release date of their new original album LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE, a seamless sequel to AFTER THE RAIN, their classic multi-platinum debut album, as they celebrate the 20th Anniversary milestone of the phenomenal record and its #1 Billboard hit “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love And Affection.” EMI / Frontiers Records USA / Stone Canyon Records will release the new Nelson album sequel LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE in the U.S. on February 15, 2011.

To coincide with the new release and 20th Anniversary of AFTER THE RAIN, EMI / Frontiers Records USA / Stone Canyon Records will also release twin (2) Nelson catalog albums: BEFORE THE RAIN the demo collection of songs that secured their recording deal with Geffen Records in 1990 and PERFECT STORM – AFTER THE RAIN WORLD TOUR 1991 live concert album. The North American release of the twin rare Nelson albums on February 15, 2011, will be a complement to the release of Nelson’s brand new original album sequel LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE.

“LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE is the creative masterpiece Nelson has waited over 20 years to unveil,” enthuses Gunnar Nelson. “It’s given us the opportunity to resolve some unfinished business musically and artistically. American fans have waited long enough. We’re thrilled the U.S. release is finally here.”

“The forecast for 2011 is incredible with releasing three Nelson albums,” adds Matthew Nelson. “We are thrilled to be releasing our new original Nelson album LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE in the United States. Plus, Nelson fans should enjoy the journey through the time capsule provided by these rare collectible albums — BEFORE THE RAIN and PERFECT STORM.”

LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE was recently released in Europe and the UK to overwhelming critical praise. Frank Thiessies of Metal Hammer Germany writes, “The two blonds have done the almost impossible: a comeback sequel as strong as Meat Loaf’s BAT OUT OF HELL II. This sequel alone has more hits than Bon Jovi’s made in 18 years over six discs.”

Britain’s well-known music critic Alison Joy, who originally dubbed Nelson “the Timotei Twins” in Kerrang! in the U.K. back in 1990, writes in Classic Rock / AOR Legends magazine that LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE is “absolutely and unexpectedly awesome!”

“Nelson’s return has been hailed by the Melodic Rock press as one of the highlights of the year,” affirms Serafino Perugino, President & C.E.O. of Frontiers Records. “These results, along with the intrinsic quality of the album, make Frontiers extremely proud of this artistic cooperation. We look forward to more albums together with Nelson.”

AFTER THE RAIN was the debut multi-platinum album by Nelson in the early 1990s. They zoomed to number one with their hit song, “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love And Affection,” which made history landing America’s iconic Nelson family (bandleader Ozzie Nelson, rock legend Rick Nelson, and twins Matthew & Gunnar) into the Guinness Book of World Records as the ONLY family in Entertainment with three (3) successive generations of #1 hitmakers.

Nelson’s AFTER THE RAIN record and tour became a phenomenon just prior to the rise of grunge. The last major success of the good time rock ‘n’ roll era, Nelson has had (1) Number One, (4) Top Ten, and (5) Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hit singles, plus (5) #1 MTV videos and has sold over 6.5 million albums worldwide!

Nelson has always been synonymous with entertainment in America. Matthew and Gunnar follow Ozzie Nelson’s vision of embracing connecting with people and audiences through all forms of media. They have been doing television-hosting work for VH1 and E!

Plus, Gunnar co-hosted Lifetime Radio’s nationally syndicated morning show.

Nelson has been headlining at major rock festivals around the globe celebrating the 20th anniversary of AFTER THE RAIN. Touring in China, the U.K. where Nelson headlined the Firefest Rock Festival in 2010, and of course the U.S. where they have also toured extensively with Peter Frampton and Styx. A Nelson world tour in 2011 will soon be announced.

LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE track listing includes:

Call Me; Day By Day; Ready, Willing And Able; How Can I Miss You?; You’re All I Need Tonight; To Get Back To You; When You’re Gone; Take Me There; Come; In It For The Money; Change A Thing; Kickin’ My Heart Around.

The first single from the album released “You’re All I Need Tonight” and “Call Me” are available to listen online exclusively with full in streaming on Frontiers Web radio at http://www.frontiers.it/webradio .

Nelson filmed their first music video in over 15 years for the single “You’re All I Need Tonight,” which can be viewed on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19N6YoIx7OI .

“Having floored me once back in 1989 with her awesome debut, the seminal TROUBLE OR NOTHIN’, it seems like Ms. Beck is about to do it all over again with her forthcoming release THE GREAT ESCAPE. Written by Robin in partnership with husband James Christian (House Of Lords) and Tommy Denander (everyone), the latter also supplying sumptuous guitaring, this album sees Robin back to her grandiose best, with massive, towering songs and a vocal performance to bring tears to the eyes. This really is a classic in the making, and in my opinion might even be a more complete album than that fantastic debut.” – Bruce Mee, Rocktopia UK

“The best album Robin has ever made.” – Steve Price (ARFm)

About Robin Beck

Originally from Brooklyn, New York Robin’s career started long before anyone had ever heard of her.

“I dreamed about being an artist and a song writer since I was about nine years old. The first song I ever wrote was at 10 years old and it was called ‘The Key To My Heart.’ I was so proud of it. It sounded a bit country actually.”

But it wasn’t Robin’s fate to be a country singer.

“I grew up on the Beatles and the Supremes, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. I even went to Woodstock and at 12 years old I was already addicted to the sound and the stage. But in my home, there was Barbara Striesand on the radio morning noon and night since I was five years old. Naturally some of her rubbed off on me. I gained a lot of strength imitating other singers. I was a bit of a Parrot. This became very useful later on in years. There was very little music in my house while growing up with only a old static clock radio to listen to,” she recalls.

Basically she had no formal vocal training. Growing up in Brooklyn in the ’70s Robin learned a lot about R&B, and the Beatles and Carole King, right there on the stoops and corner of her block.

“There were a few boys that used to gather on the corner with a guitar and I was drawn to the sound like a moth to a flame… they always invited me to sing and I was loud!”

Robin was just a kid when she left home to find herself in Daytona Beach, Florida searching for her dream to sing in a rock band.

She was discovered by a local musician (Alex London) who got Robin her first professional job with guitarist Johnny Conklin. Robin learned the art of singing standards, before she moved on to local cover bands singing hit songs before she was finally asked to go out on the road at 17 to sing in a band called Deep South. Soon after that, Robin landed her first recording contract for a single entitled “Still In Love,” after being discovered while playing in a Detroit club.

Back in New York, Robin started to work on different projects including the Broadway musical “Got To Go Disco” and finally started a proper recording career with the release of her first album SWEET TALK in 1979 with Kenny Lehman of the famed “Dance, Dance, Dance.” While living in the Big Apple, she started to become involved in the jingle business and it was during that period that she got to work with some of the greatest musicians in the world. It was thanks to a certain jingle that Robin’s name came to prominence in 1988 when the song “First Time” (a Coca-Cola theme tune) became a huge hit worldwide. In fact, the song held the number one chart position for three weeks in the UK, which meant Robin had to make a live appearances on the BBC’s “Top Of The Pops” program.

This was the springboard to a new start in her recording career. The subsequent album TROUBLE OR NOTHIN’ featured contributions from such luminaries as Steve Lukather (Toto), Paul Stanley (Kiss), Diane Warren, long standing writing partner Jeff Kent, and Desmond Child to name a few. Robin has never stopped being regarded as one of the premier female AOR singer/artists ever!

Robin’s follow-up album, HUMAN INSTINCT, was released on the D.S.B. label in 1992 and featured once again the cream of the session world (Jeff Porcaro, Kim Bullard, Tim Pierce, Michael Landau, Lee Ritenour, Michael Thompson, etc.) and songwriters (Mark Spiro, Jeff Kent, Journey’s Jonathan Cain, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson, Sue Shifrin, Glen Burtnik, etc.).

CAN’T GET OFF dates back to 1994 on East/West and once again she proved her qualities as a fine singer with songs offered by the likes of Clif Magness (Avril Lavigne, Steve Perry), Steve Kipner, Michael Bolton, Ole Evenrude, Marc Jordan.

A break from the music industry was in the cards and it was during this time that Robin met and married James Christian, record producer and singer with the rock band House Of Lords. Together they had a beautiful daughter, Olivia. Despite her new role as a mother, Robin couldn’t stay entirely out of the limelight and in 1998 she recorded a duet with Italian star “Pupo” which required that she travel throughout Italy and Germany to promote it with nine month old Olivia at her side. In 1999, Robin released the singles “Jewel In My Crown” and “Shut Up And Kiss Me” (Vocal producer James Christian, music produced by Chris Flanger and Ingo) which saw her return to recording after a five-year hiatus, and in 2003 she released the full album WONDERLAND. This adventurous new recording with a contemporary sound showcased the passion, power and versatility of Robin’s voice better than ever and with a technically bang up to date production, proved that she was able to move with the times whilst remaining true to a sound that her long time fans would appreciate.

Robin’s solo career and writing has always been the most important part of her focus. However, through the years her talents have been called upon many times for session work alongside some of the music greats of 20th century. She has performed with Patty Austin, headlined with Tina Turner and Richard Marx, and recorded with top artists such as David Bowie, Michael Bolton, Deep Purple, and Cher to name but a few.

Her long awaited return to melodic rock happened finally in 2005 with DO YOU MISS ME, a beautiful piece of melodic rock music with superb original songs offered by Marc Jordan (Kansas, Cher, Amanda Marshall), Amy Sky (Heart), Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Kiss), Michael Bolton, and Chris Pelcer (Peter Cetera, Van Zant), and was right up there with her most rocking efforts like TROUBLE OR NOTHIN’ and HUMAN INSTINCT.

LIVING ON A DREAM was released in 2006 by Frontiers Records. This record was acclaimed by Melodic Rock Magazine’s Andrew McNeice a Rock Classic Album earning 97 points out of 100, and a new status in the Melodic Rock World.

The classic “First Time” was also back in the spotlight and during that same year as Robin was asked by Universal to recreate the vocal along with a new dance mix of “First Time” with the famed Sunblock mixers. This, too, proved to be an instant success and Robin performed on “Top Of The Pops.” Robin once again topping the chart with a spot on the UK’s official Billboard Charts at #9 and selling to date over 3 million units.

In February 2009 kicking off her new label Her Majesty’s Music Room, Robin gave her fans a real treat by releasing the 20th anniversary Silver Edition TROUBLE OR NOTHIN’ CD.

Every note was newly recorded, with a host of killer new songs included. This was something Robin had wanted to give her fans for a long time. By now you may be wondering why Robin has ventured off on her own and starting her own label Her Majesty’s Music Room. Well true to form as life goes, we will all at some point or another go back to where we started from. For Robin it’s about her dream of becoming a songwriter who sings her own songs and travels to the beat of a different drum. While others may be waiting for their big break to come and get out of the straggle hold of fear, Robin is breaking down all the barriers.

Robin is another Maverick blazing her own trail, setting the bar high and taking the proverbial bull by its horns.

“For years I believed that I had no power because I didn’t sit behind a desk up at a record company drawing a check and calling the shots. Those days are over! In order to live the dream you have to take stock in it. After all it’s my dream and if you aren’t sharing it you may as well not be in it with me. I love my life and the music that has given me the ability to share my heart and soul with like minded people. I’m a giver that’s clear to most who know me, so at this point in my career I choose to give all of my ambitions to a road less travelled. That road is leading to becoming a self made woman. No more passing the buck for this girl…” Her goal is to succeed by her own terms.

Robin continues to be a driving force, an innovator and a true leader in her Genre. One of the dynamics that makes Robin so special and unique is that she truly appreciates and loves her fans as much as they appreciate and love her.

The proof of this is right there in the music.

In 2009-10 after achieving four top Television Show in Germany including the prestigious and famed “Ultimative Chartshow,” where Robin took a seat on the couch to talk after performing her classic hit “First Time,” with host Oliver Geißen, Thomas Stien (former BMG label Manager), and Boris Becker’s wife Sharlely “Lilly” Kerssenberg. “All in all it has been a very successful couple of years having started my own record label and wearing all the hats to ensure it’s success!”

Here comes the good stuff…

After a long two years of writing and performing along with managing a new young band from Wales named Kane’d, and running her own record label, Robin has completed her long awaited follow-up to TROUBLE OR NOTHIN’ 20th Anniversary edition.

The new CD is due out February 11, 2011 on Robin’s own label Her Majesty’s Music Room, and championed by Sony/Neo, this is sure to be another winner.

Get ready for THE GREAT ESCAPE! Eleven original songs, no sleepers all keepers! Passionate and tough, sensitive yet cutting lyrics and melodies that will resonate and find a home with the rock n’ roll classics. Never underestimate a true Rocker! Robin never gives up and she never gives in… “I waited a long time to do a duet with one of my favorite male rock gods, Joe Lynn Turner of Rainbow and Deep Purple, ‘That All Depends On What You Do Tonight.’ The wait was well worth it!”

Then of course to sweeten the deal Robin and James Christian share a duet on the appropriately titled “Till The End Of Time.” it’s undeniably truthful and with soaring vocals that are commanding and memorable.

“The whole album is based on reality!” “Cross My Heart (And Hope You Die)” was written about Tiger Woods and is dedicated to all the woman out there who have been through it and came out the other side ALIVE AND MUCH BETTER OFF! A Long way from “Your Cheatin’ Heart” or “Cry Me A River,” this song takes care of it all, ladies should bone up! With titles like “All The Rivers,” a twisted and inverted look at love lost but nothing learned and “Don’t Think He’s Ever Coming Home” the tear jerker of the album will stick to your bones… Cross that with “Everything Is Alright,” “You Got Me Feeling Sexy”, “Inside Me,” “Baby I’m Not A Bitch,” and finally “The Great Escape”… simply all killer songs!

THE GREAT ESCAPE will be released on February 11th, 2011 By Her Majesty’s Music Room.

Twinspirits – LEGACY Released February 18th, 2011

Italian progressive metal band Twinspirits return with their third album LEGACY on February 18th, 2011. LEGACY takes all the best aspects of the band’s previous two releases and adds a heavier dynamic and more cohesive sound thanks to a fixed lineup, the same that delivered the highly praised THE FORBIDDEN CITY and spent time on the road promoting that release.

LEGACY marks the second album of vocalist Göran Nyström in the band, and his voice delivers another commanding performance over the material penned by band mastermind and keyboardist Daniele Liverani. Guitarist Tommy Ermolli takes a heavier role this time round whilst the rhythm section of bassist Alberto Rigoni and drummer Dario Ciccioni hold down the complex patterns with precision.

LEGACY is divided in two main parts. In the first part we have six powerful, straight-ahead songs, still being progressive in nature and with a more direct feel to them than has been heard from the band before. The second part of the album is a multi suite movement, “The Endless Sleep,” divided in five songs (symphonic intro plus four songs) that is more like an album within an album being very theatrical and visionary.

On the albums lyrical slant Liverani comments, “Lyrically the first six songs are independent to the suite, and are cover subject, including personal experiences, thoughts about life in this era, and different kind of reflections of human beings into this modern world we are living in.

“The second part, the suite, is covering a concept story that runs through a journey that the main character is undertaking after a premature death, whereby he’s discovering a role that he’s involved in after he passes away, and the meeting with a superior entity that is giving him a sort of second chance to get back to the human life to accomplish a human rescue mission as a second millennium messiah… a very struggling story that will be revealed part by part of ‘the endless sleep’ 30 min. suite. The key points of the concept are in part ‘I’m Leaving This World’ where the main character describes the moment he passes away and his extra body experience, the song ‘Legacy’ where we have the relationship between him and the superior entity that is explaining his new role in the afterlife, the songs ‘What Am I Supposed To Do’ is a very moving moment where he meets his parents while he’s back to human life temporary, and the final part ‘Tell Me The Truth’ continues the description of the relationship of the main character with his afterlife guide mentor.”

Twinspirits will be getting back on the road in spring 2011 promoting the new album with a tour and some European festival appearances.

A promotional video for “Slave To This World” was released in January 2011 and has won strong praise from the bands fan base and beyond. View at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckU0hL_awKY .

-Sweden Rock Festival & Cruise Updates

[Note: This combines several updates. – Tim]

Legion Of The Damned To Play On The Sweden Rock Cruise!

Legion Of The Damned have never played in Sweden, a fact that will be changed on April 7-8 when the band boards the Sweden Rock Cruise!

The roots of these Dutch thrashers can be found in Occult, which started out as a death/black metal band but flirted heavily with thrash metal at the end of their career. Occult gained cult status in the extreme metal underground but real success evaded them, so after a decade of misfortunes, lineup changes and record company disagreements, singer and band leader Maurice Swinkels decided it was time for a fresh start.

After changing the band name and signing a new record contract, the quartet finally got the breakthrough they had been fighting for for so long. Another three albums later, Legion Of The Damned have established themselves as one of the leading extreme thrash metal acts on the European metal scene.

Lineup so far:

Electric Boys
Legion Of The Damned

Three more bands are to be announced!

Stryper To Sweden Rock Festival!

The titans of Christian metal! In the ’80s, California’s Stryper ranked among the greatest in melodic metal. Albums like TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL (1986) sold millions of copies and songs like “Free,” “Honestly,” and “Always There For You” became smash hits on MTV. Consequently, many of Stryper’s fellow Christians claim that the band were not “true” believers. This frustrated the quartet, who gradually switched styles and eventually dissolved. However, history redeemed Stryper’s legacy, and the band reunited permanently in 2003. Their music and lyrics are once more reminiscent of the golden age, and currently Stryper’s third album since the reunion, the cover release THE COVERING, is pending release. Many have yearned for the band to come to SRF, and now they finally will — in their classic original lineup featuring brothers Michael and Robert Sweet (vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), Oz Fox (guitar), and Tim Gaines (bass).

Kansas To Sweden Rock Festival!

Kansas (guess what state they’re from?) were pioneers in bringing symphonic rock and hard rock together. To this day, few others have done it as good. The band debuted in 1974 and got their big break in 1976 with the album LEFTOVERTURE and hit single “Carry On Wayward Son.” A multitude of classic songs followed suit: “Dust In The Wind,” “Point Of Know Return,” et al. The music of Kansas, with its great musicianship combined with intricate but still contagious melodies, has influenced countless progressive hard-rock acts. And it should preferably be enjoyed live — an environment where Kansas still excel.

Britain’s AOR Heroes FM To Sweden Rock!

Britain’s pride and joy on the AOR scene of the ’80s. FM conquered every fan of melodic rock with their debut INDISCREET (1986) and its successor TOUGH IT OUT (1989). Songs like “Frozen Heart,” “That Girl,” and “Bad Girl” have definitely earned the name of classics. Like so many of their peers, FM found the AOR-hostile climate of the ’90s too grim to endure, and the band dissolved in 1995. Twelve years later, FM found the time had come to reunite, and the delight of their fans was hardly diminished when the band’s excellent comeback album METROPOLIS arrived last year. Now FM also make their SRF-debut — with lauded singer Steve Overland at the frontline as always.

Cult Heroes Of Southern Rock: Doc Holliday To Sweden Rock!

The ’70s was the golden age of Southern rock. But what about the ’80s? Sure, the genre produced good bands then also, and the prime example is arguably Doc Holliday of Georgia. Thirty years have passed since 1981, when the band released their first two, highly successful albums DOC HOLLIDAY and RIDES AGAIN. The latter included one of Southern rock’s greatest classics, “Lonesome Guitar.” The band’s subsequent experiments with techno-sounds bombed, and Doc Holliday disbanded for a few years. However, since then they have got back on their feet and then some. Today they rank among the great cult heroes of Southern rock. A band for those who like some groove with their rock.

Sweden’s Sleaze Kings: Crashdïet To Sweden Rock 2011!

Crashdïet’s debut REST IN SLEAZE (2005) put the New Wave of Sleaze on the Swedish media map. Some time later tragedy struck when vocalist Dave Lepard committed suicide. And his replacement Olliver Twisted turned out to be wrong for the band and exited following the second album THE UNATTRACTIVE REVOLUTION (2007). However, Crashdïet refused to give up. They found sensational front man Simon Cruz and released last year’s GENERATION WILD — a knock-out comeback and a big success on the band’s home turf. Crashdïet will now return to SRF with renewed vigor, as one of Sweden’s hottest bands once more.

It’s now less than 1,500 4-day tickets left!

Confirmed bands so far out of a total of around 70:

Ozzy Osbourne
Judas Priest – last show ever in Sweden
Whitesnake – with very special guests
Rob Zombie
The Cult
Joan Jett And The Blackhearts
Mr. Big
Molly Hatchet
Rhapsody Of Fire
The Haunted
The Damned

New Releases

Journey into fantasy + triumph with Napalm Records’ three newest releases: Visions Of Atlantis’ DELTA, Serenity’s DEATH & LEGACY, and Grave Digger’s THE BALLAD OF MARY MCD. All three records are set for North American release on March 15th.

Visions Of Atlantis – DELTA

Nearly four years after the release of TRINITY, Visions Of Atlantis returns with new songs for their awaiting fans. The first sounds of DELTA prove that it was well worth the wait. As unrelenting masters of their craft, the band delivers a how-to of symphonic metal and refines their sound without losing their hard-earned identity. Once again, Visions Of Atlantis uses heavy guitars and driving drums to build the foundation upon which to showcase sonorous orchestral melodies and sweeping vocal lines. Whether romantic ballads such as “Reflection” or catchy hits like “New Dawn” and “Elegy Of Existence,” Maxi Nil is able to prove her talents as a first-class vocalist. The supporting role of Mario Plank’s aggressive vocal accents places a finishing and unique touch to the tracks. Dreamscape Studios (Serenity, Edenbridge) provided for an immaculate production, which not only emphasizes the power of the songs, but also allows the fine details to shine through. DELTA presents Visions Of Atlantis at its best and is an impressive symbiosis of sonorous power and unadulterated emotion.

Serenity – DEATH & LEGACY

Serenity’s third album embarks on a journey to discover the historic figures of ages past. Embellished in symphonic metal garb, Christopher Columbus, Giacom Casanova, Sir Francis Drake, Queen Elizabeth I, and many more prominent figures take center stage on DEATH & LEGACY. The band masterfully unites the emotions and thoughts of these famed characters with the fitting musical interludes that allow them to tell their tales. The emphasis of Serenity’s sound remains guitar-oriented metal, although they also use orchestral arrangements to create a detailed and colorful symbiosis of symphonic and metallic elements. Front man Georg Neuhauser also enlisted the support of myriad scene divas for certain tracks. The impressive results include moving duets with Charlotte Wessels (Delain), Ailyn (Sirenia), and Amanda Sommerville. The album was once again masterfully produced at Dreamscape Studios and its carefully crafted artwork allows each historic character to come alive. DEATH & LEGACY is a powerful and enigmatic symphonic metal album that will take more than just the genre’s fans on a historic and impressive journey through the ages.

To mark their 30th anniversary, Grave Digger invited many guests onto their stage at the Wacken Open Air 2010 to join in the celebration. The amazing reaction of the fans and the outstanding chemistry of those involved led to THE BALLAD OF MARY. The five-track MCD begins with the resilient and timeless “Rebellion” featuring Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and Van Canto in a supporting role. The performance of metal queen Doro and Van Canto bestow the beautiful “The Ballad Of Mary” not only a fresh approach, but also newfound depth. The track ends on a longer and more symphonic note. The final tracks, “Highland Farewell” and “Coming Home,” glisten in their renewed instrumental splendor with additional choral arrangements that build up to an epic climax.

-Superstar Drummer Carl Palmer Of ELP & Asia To Release Debut Instructional DVD, CARL PALMER DRUM SOLOS, On February 22

Carl Palmer, long regarded as one of the most innovative and skillful drummers in rock history and founding member of both Emerson Lake & Palmer and Asia, is the subject of an exciting new instructional drum DVD, simply entitled, CARL PALMER DRUM SOLOS. Due for release on February 22, 2011, by Music VIdeo Distributors (MVD), the video is a unique note-for-note study of Palmer drum solos from the legendary BRAIN SALAD SURGERY era of ELP, through his years with both Asia and his own band.

The DVD captures three classic Palmer solos from different time eras, and presents them at three different speeds: 25%, 50% and 100%. By watching the solos in the slowest motion, drummers can carefully see exactly what Palmer is doing and how he appears to be doing it. In addition, the DVD comes with note-for-note sheet music transcriptions of each solo, which can be easily downloaded with Adobe Reader.

“I have long resisted putting out an instructional drum DVD, despite many calls for it in the past,” says Carl Palmer, who currently records and tours with both the re-formed Asia, and his own Carl Palmer Band. “However, when the idea for this video was brought to me, I immediately liked it. It enables other drummers to get inside how I have crafted and arranged my solos over the years. A drum solo is an extremely personal work of art, but others can learn from it and develop their own percussive expressions. That is what I hope this DVD will do for those who use it.”

The idea was conceived by fellow drummer and Carl Palmer fan, Eric Fischer, who, with long-time Palmer/ELP archivist Tony Ortiz, combed through hours of Palmer-related concert footage before settling on the ones used for this DVD. Among the performances are Palmer’s immortal drum solo from ELP’s 1974 California Jam television concert. Long regarded as one of the greatest drum solos of all time, it remains the gold standard by which most other rock drum solos have been judged. The video was co-produced by Fischer, Ortiz, Palmer, and Palmer manager, Bruce Pilato.

MP3 audio files of the solos are also included on the disc, complete with MIDI soundtracks, so drummers can play along at the 25%, 50% and 100% speeds. Bonus footage includes a brilliant snare drum only solo, a Palmer solo from his ELP-offshoot band 3 with Keith Emerson & Robert Berry; and an extensive Carl Palmer photo gallery, featuring images from The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown; ELP; 3; Asia; and the Carl Palmer Band.

“This is not an instruction in the traditional sense of the word,” says Palmer. “I view it as more of an examination of my work as a drummer and percussionist, that comes with an invitation for all drummers to join in. I learned my craft studying the work of the great drummers such as Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich; hopefully, this DVD will offer that same kind of inspiration.”

Carl Palmer emerged on the music scene at the age of 15, playing with a number of established UK bands such as Chris Farlowe & The Thunderbirds, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, and Atomic Rooster during the 1960s. In 1970, he formed one of rock’s earliest supergroups, Emerson Lake & Palmer; and a decade later he launched Asia, another supergroup with Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, and John Wetton. He has performed and recorded in reunions with both ELP and Asia, and also tours regularly with his own band. Since the beginning, Palmer has sold over 50 million records, and was named one of the 10 Greatest Drummers of All Time, by Rolling Stone magazine.

So where are things up to, first up Arabia….

Arabia’s John Blaze has been working hard to form a new rock solid unit to continue where 1001 NIGHTS left off. It’s not common knowledge that the 2001 lineup split some time ago but John, the nucleus of the band, has always been with Z Records with a view to do an all-new album. That album will see the light of day during late Summer / Autumn 2011. John has also been busy with his US act Scarecrow, the results of which will also be released this year. Arabia have 15 tracks currently in the works for possible inclusion on the all new release.

So what about UK AORsters Pulse…

Pulse are still set to release their third studio album but recording, etc. has been delayed due to Vince O’Regan’s very successful Legion project and Simon has been abroad singing and only recently returned back to England. Watch this space for news in the very near future.

Coldspell are an exciting new band based in the north of Sweden. They were formed in 2005 by guitarist and songwriter Michael Larsson, who was previously with the band R.A.W., a band that recorded two albums in the ’90s with members from Dalton and Kicken (Poodles) on drums. Together with four other experienced musicians the band Coldspell are ready to impress you with their own brand of hard rock. The band took the world by storm with their INFINATE STARGAZE release (ESM184), a recording that draws influences from a mixture of everything they grew up with from the groove of the ’70s to the choruses and melodies of the ’80s, mixed with the raw and naked excitement of the ’90s, not forgetting the production expertise of the millennium.

Coldspell’s debut CD has already created a stir in rock circles, and they have a nice crisp guitar sound that can be compared to Gotthard, Malmsteen and Whitesnake but with melodies and a rich rhythm section that smacks of Treat and Dalton. Songs like “Keep On Believin’,” “Eye Of The Storm,” and “Shot Down” won fans over time and time again. The album received stunning reviews all over the world and was on several album “top lists” for 2009 and album of the year at RockRealms.com (category “heavy, hard and melodic rock”).

Here we are two years later and a brand new release OUT FROM THE COLD, once again mixed by Tommy Hansen in Denmark, Tommy of course having previously worked with Helloween, TNT, Pretty Maids, Jorn, and Pagan’s Mind. Well, why change a winning formula?! What we have here are 12 tracks of hard rock excellence that take the band to new heights. The core of Niklas Swedentorp on vocals, Michael Larssen on guitars and vocals, and Matti Eklund on keyboards and vocals remains the same, but in come new members Perra Johanson (ex-Crawley, Lost Souls) on drums and Anders “kebbe” Lindmark joins on bass (ex-Dalton / R.A.W.).

-Anacrusis Reissue On Divebomb

Anacrusis formed during 1986 in St. Louis, MO. After their ANNIHILATION COMPLETE demo (1987) garnered instant critical acclaim (voted “best demo of 1987” by the readers of Metal Forces magazine), the band signed a two album deal with UK label, Active Records. The combo then released their debut and follow-up albums, SUFFERING HOUR and REASON in 1988 and 1990, respectively. With their Active Records contract obligations fulfilled and momentum building, the band knew they needed a bigger marketing push behind them. It was no surprise when Anacrusis signed on with U.S. powerhouse Metal Blade Records. This was exactly the kind of label the band needed in their corner. Metal Blade eventually released Prog/Thrash/Power-Metal masterstrokes MANIC IMPRESSION (1991) and SCREAMS & WHISPERS (1993) — both releases are considered forward-thinking metal landmarks. Despite all the accolades the band received in 1993 they quietly disbanded following a European tour with Death.

After remaining dormant for more than 15 years, the band finally saw the release of its original ANNIHILATION COMPLETE demo in a limited edition CD/DVD set which included early video footage along with various demos and rehearsal clips. With public interest re-engaged and a new crop of younger fans discovering the band, Anacrusis accepted an invitation to perform at Germany’s Keep It True XIII festival the following year. With all of the original members in place — Kenn Nardi, Kevin Heidbreder, John Emery and Mike Owen — Anacrusis decided to re-record their SUFFERING HOUR and REASON albums, and they have now been presented as the new HINDSIGHT collection.

The band originally pressed a limited number which sold out quite rapidly. So, Divebomb Records decided to work with the band on a second pressing with more widespread availability for fans who may have missed the original run.

“This is just a dazzling display of technicality fused with aggression that has to be heard to be believed.” – Hardrock Haven

“In short, they did it right — they didn’t go in and rewrite solos, make the lyrics ‘more mature,’ or try to tack on any 2010 insights onto 1988’s material. They went at it like they’d stepped outside in ’88 for a smoke break, got caught in a two-decade time warp, and then walked back into the studio for another take.” – Blabbermouth

“All in all, this re-recording unearths two excellent proggy Thrash albums once buried in poor production and youthful lack of restraint… This is one re-recording that is definitely worth having.” – Metal Crypt

“HINDSIGHT: SUFFERING HOUR & REASON (REVISITED) is — without a doubt — THE (as in BEST) underground re-release of the year!” – Stormbringer (Germany)

“Anacrusis was one of the most unique progressive thrash bands of their time… HINDSIGHT improves on all of the areas that needed work and otherwise stays faithful to the original songs.” – Sputnik Music

“If you are open to a barrage of influences, pretty surprising breaks and an extraordinary voice, then you are in the right place.” – Lords Of Metal

Two Side Moon Promotions are excited to welcome from the Netherlands The Barstool Philosophers!

Please find below the text info for the band’s excellent new album SPARROWS.

Band: The Barstool Philosophers
Album Title: SPARROWS
Label: private release
Street Date: Out Now!
Genre: Progressive/Symphonic Rock

Barstool Philosophers was founded in 1997 in Almelo, The Netherlands. The original members were Martin Kuipers (drums), René Kroon (keys), Ivo Poelman (guitar), and Mark Portier (bass, ex-Ulcerate Fester/Liquid Baby). At that time each member had his own band, but felt the need to (also) make music where there were no musical boundaries. So we started jamming and we all liked what came out of it. We felt a certain musical freedom. However, due to obligations to our other bands we’ve had a two-year break. We came back together in 2001 because we still liked the stuff we’ve played back then and we missed the vibe of playing together. We started to write new material and went searching for a singer. In 2002 Leon Brouwer (vocals) joined us. A guy with a great voice and a story to tell.

This gave a new dimension to our songs which were initially instrumental. We liked the stuff that came out of this fusion and decided to write some more songs and to record them. Late 2004 Mark said goodbye and Bas Hoebink (former bass player of Symmetry) also joined the band. His (fretless) bass-playing lifted our songs to a higher level. Early 2006 we’ve recorded a song for a charity project called METSEL EEN DORP (SOS CHILD VILLAGES). The song is called “Sunrise” and was written, recorded and produced within two weeks. After that we’ve finished our debut album SPARROWS, which saw daylight in september 2009 (as a private release).

The album is recorded and produced by our keyboard player René Kroon and TBP. So far SPARROWS has been recieved very well worldwide and the first pressing has been sold out within a few months. Something we are very proud of!

January 2011 has been scheduled for the start of the recordings for our second album. We wrote 22 new tracks for it and we hope to release it late 2011/early 2012. Our Influences? All great bands/musicians who try to make a difference, and life itself.

Chaos Calling formed several years ago as a prog metal instrumental trio before Jacko joined the ranks as vocalist.

What grew from that orignal chance encounter became a band that fused progressive rock/metal with rap and funk (even the occasional tip of the hat to jazz) however unlike many prog bands, chaos calling have not fallen into the trap of playing 25-minute shred-fests.

They have taken the technical side of prog and made an accessable sound that anyone can listen to and does not disapoint live. They take their influence from many differentbands accross the spectrum, names such as Rage Against The Machine, Dream Theater, Frost*, Tool, and even James Brown have contributed to their perspective on music.

Now with the brand new studio album BEYOND ILLUSIONS available on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon, the band is gearing up ready to bring the album to life on the live scene with a powerful stage show filled with high energy vocals, technical yet musical instrumental passages, and a sense of humour not often found on the prog/metal scene.

Band: 8-is
Album Title: FRAME OF US
Label: Hetaproductio
Street Date: August 2010
Genre: Melodic Rock/AOR

The band formed in Rome in March 2009 when vocalist Marcello “Malcoun” Catalano and drummer Franco Casinidecided to realize a project originally named FRAME.

Other musicians joined the band: Casali’s brothers (bass and keyboards) and Rob Franzò (guitars).

A foreign producer fell in love with the project and decided to finance an album. During the sessions some left the band until, after a few months, the lineup and the 10 songs for the album were finally ready.

Casali’s brother just helped recording the album. Rob Franzò was replaced by Red Milone who recorded all guitars.

At that point Frame turned the name into 8-is, also due to the typically ’80s album sound.

Actually the ultimate live lineup is:

Keyboards: Giuseppe Cosseddu
Drums: Piero Pierantozzi

Band: Bill Lubera
Album Title: GLOBAL WARNING ©2010
Label: Self release
Publisher: (Luberasongs)
Street Date: August 20, 2010
Genre: Instrumental Progressive Rock

*Album preview:

Bill Lubera is an Avid Composer/Guitarist from the USA and has been playing guitar since the age of five. Bill currently writes instrumental progressive rock, has been a long time student of guitar master George Bellas and has recently put out his first album entitled GLOBAL WARNING, which is comprised of 10 instrumental progressive and neo-classical progressive rock compositions featuring complex time and modal changes, soaring lead solos and dramatic interludes based around weather events as the titles of the songs suggests. Using the latest technology of sampler instruments and Logic Pro software Bill has combined his first class guitar playing along with his compositional skills to create an album that is multi-layered in sound and mood, and will keep the listener engaged from start to finish. The album was produced, mixed and mastered by George Bellas.

Bill Lubera is no stranger to the live band scene. He was lead guitarist for Jinx, which was a successful Chicago, IL (USA) band in the ’80s, and RipChord in the ’90s. Bill owns his own publishing company as well (Luberasongs) and has had written a song (“1000 Years”) for Prizoner (Cincinnati, OH USA band) which was released on their debut album YOUNG AND REJECTED back in the ’80s, and has appeared on Michael Riser’s album RISE. Since hooking up with George Bellas in 2002 Bill has devoted his time to learning advanced guitar and compositional concepts and has culminated all this knowledge and expertise imparted to him by Mr. Bellas to create his first of many instrumental guitar albums.

Since the album was released on August 20th, 2010 GLOBAL WARNING has gotten positive reviews.

“Mr. Lubera wears his musical heart on his sleeve for all to see. We are better for it. His guitar mastery is brilliant, creative, and deeply emotional.”
– Dangerdog Music Reviews-Craig Hartranft

“If you are a fan of instrumental guitar CDs, this should be right up your street”
– Do fret reviews UK-Trevor Beckett

“If you are a devotee of blazing fret work from a truly top class player, then I would happily add an extra star to the rating for this album, as there can be no question that Bill Lubera is a master of the art”

Band: Warren Robert
Street Date: Out Now
Genre: Progressive Instrumental Orchestral Metal

*Album preview:

Warren started playing guitar at the age of seven, inspired by hearing his father and older brother play. Over the years, he has studied many styles including rock, metal, blues, jazz, celtic, gyspy, bluegrass and country.

Warren has been playing in bands since the age of 12. The most significant part of his ongoing musical development took place during the eight years as lead guitarist/writer in Avacost. The group played very experimental progressive rock and released two recordings, the AVACOST E.P.(1989, Independent), and A PEACE OF THE SKY (1993, Nudibranch Records). After the band stopped playing together in 1995, Warren took a break from live performance and focused on learning and composing new styles.

In 1997, Warren and some friends formed a Celtic quartet called Brae. This group played at conventions and private functions. Warren’s time with Brae allowed him the opportunity to further explore the possibilities of the acoustic guitar, and to develop a feel for the traditional music of his home region.

Warren joined up with a local singer/songwriter Ray Mattie and bassist Jonny Grant for a couple of shows in 2002. This Celtic rock group is known as Pogey, and travels throughout Canada and the United States, playing a variety of material from original songs and instrumentals to adaptions of traditional material. Pogey’s latest release is called FULL SPEED AHEAD (2010 Universal Music Canada).

In 2004/2005, Warren recorded and released an album of experimental shred guitar instrumentals entitled THOUGHTS AND REALITIES. It featured melodic tunes, complex textures and orchestrations, and fast shred guitar playing. Topping sales charts on Guitar Nine Records, this first solo release earned Warren a reputation as a both a melodic shred guitarist and as a modern composer. Warren has followed up his debut with a recording called MUSIC FROM THE VOID (2009). This concept album is inspired by the writings of the great Samauri Musashi.

Warren has recently recorded and released a performance of W.A. Mozart’s “Requiem Mass In Dm KV626.” The recording is an arrangement of the full mass for orchestra, with all choir and soloist parts performed on the electric guitar. Also trained in orchestral composition, Warren leads an active career as a composer for film, television and live theatre. He has written the music scores to over 90 international documentaries. Warren has also done a great deal of studio session work on a variety of projects in many musical styles. More information can be found at Thoughts And Realities (The Official Warren Robert Website) at http://www.thoughtsandrealities.com/ .

-DigiTech Unveils Limited Edition Eternal Descent Lyra Pedal At Winter NAMM 2011

DigiTech And Eternal Descent Creators Team Up

ANAHEIM, CA — Eternal Descent is a comic book and music series unlike any other — and so is the new Eternal Descent Lyra, a limited edition multi-effects pedal that brings the sound of the globally popular series to guitarists everywhere. Eternal Descent is a cross-genre story that blends elements of fantasy, action, music, superhero, gothic, science fiction, supernatural and other elements into an ongoing saga featuring Lyra, the series’ heroine. Lyra is a rock singer who is quick-witted, beautiful, talented, has attitude to spare — and is immersed in a battle with demons both internal and external awaiting her at every turn.

Music is integral to Eternal Descent. Created by writer Llexi Leon, the comics revolve around the exploits of Lyra and her band, Constellation Nine, and rock and metal bands like Static X, Atreyu, Firewind, Shadows Fall and others have made guest appearances. A series of albums have been released that bring the comic to life with music created specifically for the series.

Featuring the Eternal Descent logo, distinctive Lyra graphic and a dark metallic purple finish, the DigiTech Lyra delivers the signature tones, sounds and effects that legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, and others) and his team used to record the Eternal Descent albums. Seven preset tones, from clean to moderate overdrive to crushing distortion, are available that match seven songs from the albums.

Each preset tone can be further modified by the Lyra’s Gain and FX Mix knobs. When the knobs are in the 12 o’clock position, the sound matches the sound of the actual song. Turning the Gain knob left or right increases or decreases the amount of amp/distortion gain, while turning the FX Mix knob left or right increases or decreases the amount of the modulation, delay and reverb effects for each of the seven presets. A Level knob controls the output volume. The pedal has mono and stereo outputs and can be powered by a 9V battery or the included AC power supply.

Features of the DigiTech Lyra Pedal
• 7 Signature tones from Eternal Descent sessions
• Controls for Level, Gain, FX Mix and Lyra
• Mono or Stero Outputs
• Custom Eternal Descent Artwork
• Rugged cast-metal chassis
• Includes PS200R power supply

The Lyra pedal’s tonality is showcased at this link:

Lava Engine found its current lineup after a couple of years experimenting with both musical styles and a variety of members. The four-track EP LAVA ENGINE was released back in 2008, including Magnus Florin and Ronnie Jaldemark (System Breakdown, Beyond Known) as members of the band. This was the first step towards a more dark and atmospheric sound and therefore the finding of the genuine and characteristic way of today’s Engine. The album was mixed and mastered by CJ Grimmark (Narnia, Full Force) and released worldwide both digital and physical form.

After this, Mick Nordström (Modest Attraction, Flagship, XT, toured with Narnia, Leviticus, The Quill, etc.) observed the band on a live occasion and thought that he should join up. As things turned out, the previous drummer at the same time felt the need to leave the band which opened up a slot for Nordström to become a member of Lava Engine. A while after Simon Dahlström (Beyond Known) joined as well, fitting the progressive but yet melodic way of thinking. This is the mark on the time line where magic would begin to happen.

By the end of 2009 new songs were completed, recordings of the second album started and in June 2010 the follow-up IN LIMBO was ready for release. This time mixed by the band’s new drummer Mick Nordström but once again mastered by CJ Grimmark. This one was recieved very well by fans and media:

5 out of 5 – Sea Of Tranquility
“We all have melancholy times sooner or later and now Lava Engine has given us a soundtrack just for those moments!”

5 out of 5 – IgelMetal.de
“This album simply has no faults!”

5 out of 6 – Unprogged.com
“We can all expect great things from Lava Engine!”

Dutch Progressive Rock Pages
“They are clearly very good musicians, the production is top-notch and Magnus Florin has a truly excellent rock voice!”

The album is recorded, mixed and produced by Lava Engine on various locations between December 2009 – May 2010.

-Immortal Dominion Slay The Competition With Heavy Duty New Release, PRIMORTAL, Due March 22, 2011

It’s been five years since Immortal Dominion has issued a full-length studio album. But the wait is nearly over, metalheads. March 22nd, 2011 will see the release of the group’s third full-length overall, PRIMORTAL (on 427 Records), and the album will surely take the group to the next level, as it was overseen by renowned metal producer Sterling Winfield (who has previously worked with the likes of Mercyful Fate, Pantera, Damageplan, and Hellyeah).

As Winfield explains, “I really enjoyed the studio experience with Immortal Dominion, not only for the band and what they brought to the table as far as their material, and their professional attitude, but the facility, Backbone Studios, in Loveland Colorado, is unbelievable! A killer place that was made just for the creative person in all of us. The staff is there to help you with your vision, and never said no to ANY of our crazy ideas. Don’t even get me started on the gear available to us. The best!”

Comprised of band members Ray Smith (vocals), Brian Villers (guitars/vocals), Louis Micciullo (guitars), Bryan “Ed” Schmidt (bass), and Casey Glass (drums), Immortal Dominion has assembled a strong album that easily measures up to other releases by modern metal acts. As Villers explains, “I think the current metal scene has come around full circle, with guitar solos and great drumming being prevalent again. And our new sound fits in with that perfectly.” Or as Schmidt describes Immortal Dominion’s sound, “Somewhere between Cannibal Corpse… and Elton John!” And after hearing such standout tracks as “Reanimated” and “Retroactive,” you’ll discover that Schmidt’s description is not that far off.

Immortal Dominion will be supporting the release of PRIMORTAL with live dates throughout 2011, and as Smith describes, “Fans can expect an exciting performance that will blow them away. The guitar solos and drum beats take it to a new level of listening entertainment, while the vocals are great and easy to sing along with.” Adds Micciullo, “We are a very high energy band, so they should expect lots of head banging!”

And lastly, just what does the future hold in store for Immortal Dominion? “I see Immortal Dominion growing every day in the music industry,” explains Glass. “With the new band lineup, live performances and new songs, we will continue to bring something new to the table. Working with industry leaders and top bands will make Immortal Dominion a force to be reckoned with.”

-That Pegazus album sounds cool and fun, and I like how they got David Shankle, Ross The Boss, and Jeff Watson to play on “Old Skool Metal Dayz.” Kind of an odd trio, but very interesting nonetheless! And elsewhere in the world of Former Manowar Dudes Doing Guest Appearances, the Crystal Viper album with drummer Rhino looks awesome, too. Kinda neat to have Stefan Kaufmann and Mat Sinner on there, and I can’t wait to hear the female-fronted cover of Accept’s “TV War.”

-Anyone want to finance me a trip to this year’s Sweden Rock Festival? I’ll be your best friend. Seriously though, that looks like a great lineup. I’d love to see Ozzy, Priest, Whitesnake, Saxon, Helloween, and Rage together! And hey, while we’re at it let’s throw some kudos to the Z Rock Fest — Legion, Paul Laine, Mad Max, and Takara are the backbone of a pretty sweet lineup, too.

-I read some excerpts of a Sammy Hagar autobiography online a few years ago. If they made it into his new book “Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock” then sign me up — I can’t wait to read this.

-A metalhead tribute to Frank Sinatra? Oy. Yes, I did buy the Pat Boone thing (1997’s IN A METAL MOOD – NO MORE MR. NICE GUY) but this SIN-ATRA thing somehow seems even goofier.

-Wow, that huge “Big 4 US Concert Announcement” sure was underwhelming, eh? Just one date? Yee-ha. Thanks guys.

I haven’t heard this Greek power metal band’s prior output, but I’m sure digging GENERATION X now. The disc features Ian Parry (Elegy, Consortium Project, Infinity Overture) as guest lead vocalist, killer production courtesy of R.D. Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy, Valley’s Eve), and a bonus video clip (a creepy eight-minute mini-movie for the track “Nightmare Serenade”). Straight-up, crunchy melodic power metal is the order of the day, with Parry’s Mark Boals-y vocals fitting the music perfectly. The band — guitarist Dimitris Goutziamanis, bassist Stratos Dionisopoulos, drummer Chrisafis Tantanozis — has the chops, and they can write nice, compact up-tempo songs with hooks and some flash. Goutziamanis’ solos are tasty, and he has a knack for writing air guitar-worthy rhythms, too. Kudos. GENERATION X is a remarkably consistent album, with the crunchy-yet-hummable “Heroes,” melodic metal scene-celebrating “Rock Until We Fall,” and driving riff/lick-filled “Flesh ‘N’ Bone” being the biggest highlights. Hopefully Mr. Parry will stick around for a few more albums!

Hoo boy, where to begin? If you like your power metal played with an over-the-top, “All Men Play On Ten” attitude, then get yourself familiar with Empires Of Eden. Stu Marshall (Paindivision, ex-Dungeon) and drummer Jasix (ex-Paindivision) have enlisted a stellar list of guest singers to bellow, shriek, and wail over these nine ripping slabs of power metal. Mike Vescera (Obsession, Yngwie Malmsteen) blasts out of the chute with the “Painkiller”-ish “Of Light And Shadows” and the pace never lets up. Louie Gorgievski (Crimsonfire) contribute some uber-vibrato to the hooky, hyperactive “Enter The Storm,” and the menacing Sean Peck (Cage) rips your head off with the end-of-the-world anthem “Total Devastation.” Ballads, these are not, but you do get a bit of a break with some mid-tempo and orchestral parts of the stomping “Prognatus Ut Obscurum” featuring Zak Stevens (Savatage, Circle II Circle), and the slow-building “Reborn In Fire” featuring session man Chris Ninni and Mike Zoias (Dune, Transcending Morality). Steve Grimmett (Grim Reaper, Onslaught, Lionsheart) sings the driving “Beyond Daybreak,” and to these ears sounds like his younger self crossed with… Don Dokken? Gorgievski returns for the blazing “Death Machine” and the sizzling “Searching Within,” and does a great job. (I’d never heard of Mr. Gorgievski prior to this, but now I’m definitely interested in seeking out his other work.) “Rising,” featuring Carlos Zema (Outworld), dials down the craziness a bit and closes out the album on a classy, power ballad-like note. This is great stuff — REBORN IN FIRE is the kind of motivatin’ album you play in your car to help you get wherever you’re going a little faster.

Mass was one of many bands that I heard and read much about back in the ’80s, but never actually got a chance to hear till these two new archive releases landed in my lap. I’ve often heard Mass’ name being mentioned alongside Stryper’s, as the two bands were apparently buddies and occasional tour mates back in the day. (Michael Sweet of Stryper also produced Mass’ 1988 VOICES IN THE NIGHT disc.) Though they never became more than a “cult” act (mainly in the Christian rock underground) during their heyday, Mass remains an active entity today, releasing a new album (SEAS OF BLACK) in 2010 and still doing occasional gigs around their native New England. With FIGHTER and ’84 UNCHAINED, Retroactive takes us back to the very beginning of the band’s history. FIGHTER was originally recorded back in 1982 (!) for A&M Records, but the album was permanently shelved due to hassles between the label and the band’s management, so this is the first time the material has ever seen the light of day. ’84 UNCHAINED, meanwhile, is a five-song EP (now making its first-ever appearance on CD) that the band self-released back in 1984 to drum up label interest, which eventually led to their deal with RCA Records. The material on both discs shows that Mass was a young, talented bunch, that may not have been the most original band to come down the pike, but their sound was right in line with other pop/metal bands that were making similar noises around the same time. One band that kept coming to mind for me was White Lion (circa the FIGHT TO SURVIVE album), because vocalist Louis St. August’s voice seems to have a bit of Mike Tramp’s charismatic whine to my ears (though of the two, St. August is probably the better singer overall). I preferred the FIGHTER disc over the ’84 UNCHAINED EP though only by a slim margin; the main difference between the two would be FIGHTER’s production job (courtesy of one time Judas Priest knob-twiddler Tom Allom), which is a bit more raw/gritty and therefore slightly more “metal” than the melodic-rock leanings found on UNCHAINED. Highlights on each disc for me were “Fighter,” “Watch Her Walk” and “Bad Man’s Reputation” from FIGHTER, and “Pedal To The Metal” and “Bones” (a never-before-released bonus track) on UNCHAINED. I found it odd that although Mass have often been classified as “Christian Metal” over the years, the only out-and-out “message” song on either disc appears to be “Holy One” on the UNCHAINED EP. (The band does indeed give a shout-out to the Big Guy Upstairs in the FIGHTER booklet, however.) Collectors will be pleased to know that these releases continue Retroactive’s tradition of detailed packaging. Both discs include full booklets with lyrics and liner notes from St. August, and both albums have been treated to a quality re-mastering thanks to J. Powell at Steinhaus. Longtime Mass fans will definitely want to add these rare recordings to their collections, and they provide a nice starting point for new fans such as myself. Recommended.

Christian rockers have long debated the question, “Who was the first real Christian metal band?” Names like Bloodgood, Saint, Barren Cross, and of course Stryper get thrown around a lot as possible answers, but in my book the members of this Detroit based obscurity have the most legitimate claim to the title, as they released their very first demo recordings waaaaay back in 1979! Supposedly Messiah was quite the Midwestern concert draw during the late ’70s and early ’80s due to their infamous stage act (“inspired by the sound and theatrical shows of Alice Cooper, Kiss and Black Sabbath,” according to the back of one of these CDs), in which Satan was apparently summoned onstage and then sent back to Hell each night by the band’s brand of “Heavenly Metal.” Um… yeah, okay, I’d probably buy a ticket to see that too! 🙂 Despite their notorious/controversial rep, Messiah never caught on with the metal world at large and their recorded output consisted of only two vinyl-only releases (FINAL WARNING in 1984 and the GOING INSANE EP in 1985) before the band disappeared off the face of the Earth. Since then, both releases have become hotly pursued collector’s items (a quick Net search shows that an unopened vinyl copy of FINAL WARNING will set you back about $500!), but thankfully the specialists at Retroactive Records have stepped in to reissue both discs and save curious collectors from breaking their bank accounts. Both discs have been re-mastered and from what I’ve gathered from reading up on ’em online, the sonic quality of these reissues is a massive improvement over the ’80s originals. So how do I like ’em? Musically, Messiah sound like pretty basic late ’70s style chugging hard rock/metal to me, with decent solos, catchy choruses and heavy duty, fire and brimstone “You better turn or yer gonna burn” lyrical imagery. I can sort of hear the Alice Cooper influence the band claims in their liner notes (mainly in the vocal delivery of Charles Michael) and maybe a hint of Sabbath in the guitar tone but honestly the band that I’m most reminded of is Blue Oyster Cult. With their apocalyptic message and over-the-top theatrical style, Messiah definitely seems to be trying to cop the same “Epic and Weird” style that B.O.C. had pioneered. I’d say my favorite track would be the band’s signature tune “Heavenly Metal,” which appears on both CDs, along with “You’d Better Say A Prayer” from the GOING INSANE disc and FINAL WARNING’s “Lucifer,” which opens with a spoken-word intro that’s eerily similar to the one used on Iron Maiden’s “The Number Of The Beast.” Coincidence? You make the call. Either way, Messiah is not a bad listen, but by the same token I can see why they didn’t make it very far in the ’80s metal sweepstakes. This kinda stuff was already pretty well out of date when FINAL WARNING appeared in 1984 and was totally yesterday’s news by the time GOING INSANE appeared a year later. By 2011 standards, Messiah is an interesting, trippy blast from the past. Christian rock historians and anyone else with a passion for the weirdest, wildest and most obscure corners of the metal underground will want to give ’em a listen. Set the Way-Bac machine for 1984 and enjoy the ride!
