-Herman Ze German Rarebell Returns With TAKE IT AS IT COMES

Few metal drummers have a name as recognizable as Herman ze German Rarebell. And with good reason — after all, it was Rarebell’s drumming that helped propel the Scorpions into one of the 1980’s most successful rock bands (as well as co-penning the all-time classic, “Rock You Like A Hurricane”). And Herman is back once more with his latest album, TAKE IT AS IT COMES, which was recently released via Dark Star Records. A kick-ass, rockin’ good time, the album is available as a standard version, as well as a limited edition box set, which comes with two discs and a card autographed by ze German himself.

The album can also be purchased via the Amazon.com site by following this link:

The new single from TAKE IT AS IT COMES is the appropriately-titled “Let Me Rock You,” which has an add date at radio of June 3rd. Herman will also be in the U.S. starting July 12th in New York City, until July 30th ending in L.A., visiting radio and press nationwide supporting the new radio single. This will also tie in with a July 24th special appearance with the Michael Schenker Group, at this year’s Rock N’ America Festival, at the Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheatre (in Oklahoma City, OK).

Herman enthuses, “I guess most of you guys know me as the former drummer of the Scorpions — Herman Rarebell. Together with my friends Rudolf, Matthias, and Klaus, I enjoyed twenty truly awesome years of exhilarating rock n’ roll. We went through thick and thin, toured the world a couple times, and were awarded over 70 gold and 30 platinum records in addition to a bunch of other awards and prizes. It is my pleasure to tell you that my new solo CD, TAKE IT AS IT COMES, is now available on DARK STAR RECORDS.”

Get ready to be pounded into submission once more by one of rock’s greatest drummers… Herman ze German Rarebell!

-Steve Vai Unlocks The Vault And Launches VaiTunes Series

LOS ANGELES, CA — It’s not uncommon for a musician to record more work than they release. In Vai’s case, the Grammy® award-winning guitarist has a digital ocean of snippets in various degrees of completion. Some are leftovers from assorted sessions, projects that were never completed, soundcheck jams, or songs that were specific to a particular venture. “There are enough lonely, unreleased notes in my world to fill an infinity shelf,” says Vai. In between composing new scores for his upcoming performance with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Vai has transformed these snippets into full, lush songs and these rarities are being released as a series of single digital downloads called VaiTunes.

Each release comes with a PDF booklet containing detailed notes about the creation of the song, the story behind the recording, and gear involved. The latest release from the series, “The Moon and I,” evolved from a soundcheck jam in Athens, Greece in the spring of 2000. The PDF liner notes allow the listener to follow Vai as he birthed the chord changes in Greece and subsequently watered and fertilized the song ten years later half way around the world in his Encino studio. Equally fascinating is the story of the guitar used to finish “The Moon and I.” Under unique circumstances, Vai recently purchased an original Desert Yellow Ibanez JEM 777DY guitar, a guitar he designed in 1987, from a local pawnshop and named the guitar “Moon.”

Vai plans to offer one track every month or so, each one representing a unique moment in his personal musical history. The releases can be purchased via iTunes and other digital music providers worldwide through http://www.vai.com/vaitunes/ .

Visit http://www.vai.com/ and http://www.vai.com/vaitunes for more information.

-Official Press Release From David “Rock” Feinstein

*Friends And Fans*

To whom it may concern:

I just found out that Magic Circle Music stated on their site that I was contributing a song to their proposed tribute album to Dio. It also states that I specifically wrote this song for Ronnie. This is totally UNTRUE!

The song is called “Far Beyond,” and was a cut on the Feinstein THIRD WISH album, released by Magic Circle Music, (SPV) in 2004. The song was co written by myself and John West eight years ago.

I am NOT a part of this Magic Circle tribute album, and will ONLY be a part of any tribute to Ronnie that is sanctioned by Niji Entertainment Group, and Wendy Dio.

-Lion Music Label And Artist News

Anthriel Signs To Lion Music

Lion Music are delighted to announce the signing of progressive metallers Anthriel.

Hailing from Finland. Anthriel’s music can be described as a progressive metal band with straight metal and neo-classical influences. Formed in 2004 by Timo Niemisto (guitars), Antti Hakulinen (keyboards) and Jari Kuokkanen (drums) and Klaus Wirzenius (bass), it wasn’t until vocalist Simo Silvan joined in 2008 that the band really found their true direction.

With a style that is sure to appeal to fans of the likes of Symphony X, Adagio and Yngwie Malmsteen the band’s debut album THE PATHWAY is an absolute monster offering, possessing an exceptionally high standard of songwriting from start to finish with first class performances from all musicians, the final icing comes in the guise of an ultra powerful production which puts many of the genre’s leaders to shame.

Anthriel – THE PATHWAY is set for release on October 15th, 2010. More information on the album to follow soon. In the meantime check out the band at http://www.myspace.com/anthrielmusic where two samples can be heard from the debut album.

Artist News Round-Up

Ashent Names New Vocalist

Silence doesn’t mean inactivity: Titta Tani is the new singer of Italian progressive metallers Ashent.

The band report: “After a short but intense period of transition, the new Ashent lineup is finally completed. Titta Tani (Claudio Simonetti – Daemonia, Goblin, ex-DGM and ex-Necrophagia) officially joins the band, replacing the band’s dear friend Steve Braun. After five years spent together, we friendly decided to follow different musical adventures, hoping to continue to improve ourselves as men, musicians and song writers, with honesty and genuine passion. We wish Steve all the best, in order to reach new goals with his new band. Now, we are fully focused on the next gigs and we’re continuing the composition of our third album that, with reasonable certainty, will be recorded during the next fall-winter period.”

Steve’s statement: “Today is a very bittersweet day for me. My Ashent family and I have regretfully decided to part ways. Due to the economic problems in the world it was getting increasing harder to get over to Italy. After quite a few discussions we decided that the only way for Ashent to move forward is for them to look for a new singer. My wife Tara and I love our Ashent family and are sad that this period has to come to an end but we love Ashent too much to let it suffer because I couldn’t be a part as much as was needed. With this being said I couldn’t be happier that Titta has joined the Ashent family. He is an awesome singer as well as a great guy. We met last May when we did a few shows together and instantly I considered him a true friend. Thank you all for the memories and most of all your love and friendship. God Bless!!!!”

Titta’s personal statement: “Ashent welcome me as a family receives a relative who has been far away for a long time: with friendship and affection. And it’s FANTASTIC. To replace such an impressive singer as Steve is a challange that cannot be undervalued, but I will give the best of myself in order to find the way into the fans’ hearts of this amazing band!”

So guys, see you at the next gigs, and stay tuned checking the official pages.

Mistheria Studio Report

All recordings and mixing are now complete for the forthcoming solo album from one of metal leading keyboard maestros — Mistheria. The keyboard wizard has checked in with the following guest updates.

“Mark Boals (Royal Hunt, Ring Of Fire, Yngwie Malmsteen) has completed his recordings on the song ‘Eye Of The Storm – Metal Opera 82.’ Of course, the song sounds nothing short of awesome! With a mix between elegant melody and metal power, Mark’s vocals made the song totally captivating! After long years trying to make real our collaboration, I’m really proud to feature Mark, one of the greatest metal singers, on my new album!”

Mark comments, “This song brought back fond memories of the roots of Neo-Classic Metal. I had a blast recording it, and working with Mistheria!”

Rob Rock has posted the following statement on his involvement in the album:

“Recording for Mistheria was a pleasure for me. ‘Lies And Deception’ is a great song we wrote together and the song is just full of monster musicians exploding all over the place. A very interesting song to be a part of. The song is also very energizing and my vocal performance is high octane, somewhat like my ‘Wicked Maiden’ (Impellitteri) and ‘Slayer Of Souls’ (Rob Rock) vibe in a way. A very ‘live’ vocal take, with lots of ‘on the spot’ ad-libbing, which added a very emotional and natural performance attitude to the song. I really like it!” – RR

Italian Bass player Alberto Rigoni (Twinspirits / solo) completes the DRAGON FIRE album lineup. Thanks to a great mixture of perfect performance and powerful rich sound, Alberto did an excellent job recording whole album with his fantastic 6-strings Elrick Bass.

The album’s personnel in full is:
Vocals – John West, Mark Boals, Rob Rock, Titta Tani, Lance King
Guitars – George Bellas, Roger Staffelbach, Emir Hot, Neil Zaza
Bass – Dino Fiorenza, Alberto Rigoni
Drums – John Macaluso

Lion Music can now confirm the track listing is as follows:

01. Dragon Fire
02. Lies And Deception
03. Killing The Pain
04. Two Of Us
05. Metal Opera (Part 1): A.D. 1982
06. Metal Opera (Part 2): Eye Of The Storm
07. Now It’s Never
08. Fire And Flames
09. The Prelude Of My Life
10. Chopin Fantasy
11. The Power Of One
12. The Beast
13. A Beautiful Dream

Mastercastle made a strong impression with their debut album, the 2009 release THE PHOENIX, and are back with an even more impressive follow-up.

LAST DESIRE takes a similar path to its predecessor yet sees the debut’s neo-classical influences toned down a little and replaced with a straighter hard rock/metal sound making for a more rocking affair. The big riffs Pier Gonella is known for are here in all their glory and Giorgia Gueglio works her vocals into new areas on the new music, whilst the bass work and potent drumming are powerfully produced creating a thunderous sound.

-Nevermore’s Worldwide Premier Of “Emptiness Unobstructed” Video; Album OUT NOW!

The wait is finally over as Seattle’s metal titans Nevermore are back and truly better than ever with the much anticipated new full-length release, THE OBSIDIAN CONSPIRACY, which is what could be their most impressive offering of their illustrious decade plus, heralded career. The release also marks a very impressive milestone as it debuted at #125 on the Billboard Top 200 charts and #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. This is their highest charting debut ever and just further proves the band’s massive influence and stature within the metal genre. The disc also debuted at #88 on the Canadian Billboard chart.

Warrell Dane states: “We are so lucky to have such amazing and diehard fans and we can’t thank them all enough for going out the first week of release to support us while helping us achieve the highest Billboard chart entry of our career. It’s an amazing feeling to see such impressive sales in this ever changing retail climate and this is just the beginning for us as we’re planning on touring the world extensively to support this release. We are taking off to Europe tomorrow but will be travelling around all of North America this fall playing our most extensive headlining set ever, so be sure to come out and hang with us. We promise that it will be a night you will never forget. Thanks again for all of the support and see you all soon.”

The new video clip for the track “Emptiness Unobstructed” can be viewed now at:

Dane further states: “Working with director Nigel Crane was a great experience. We spent a day walking around the white cliffs in Dover the day before the London show and we couldn’t possibly be happier with the end result. The live part was shot at the O2 Academy Islington in London and we only performed the song twice that night so we had to make these takes count, so we went all out. It was pretty amazing that most of the audience knew all of the words even though we were a number of days away from the album’s release. Thanks for checking this out and we hope you enjoy it.”

If you still havent picked up the album yet, here you can view the trailer for the new album with a sneak peek at every track!

-Sons Of Liberty: Post New Video Interview Online

Historically, music has always been at its most powerful when coming from a place of oppression or struggle. As the reality of making ends meet in North America becomes a bleaker prospect with each passing year, regular people who never before questioned their own government, are now finding themselves looking for answers to explain the increasing levels of difficulty and fear we are all now forced to deal with.

Iced Earth brainchild, Jon Schaffer, has developed a new project, Sons Of Liberty, for the purpose of spreading awareness about the current state of affairs worldwide. Schaffer’s goal for this project is not to sell records, T-shirts or tickets, but rather wake people up and to get them to start researching and talking with each other. He set up the very informative resource Web site http://www.sons-of-liberty.net/ as a think-tank containing lots of interesting web-links, book and movie recommendations, and much more. Sons Of Liberty’s BRUSH-FIRES OF THE MIND is set for a July 13th release.

Schaffer knew exactly what he was doing when he initially launched the Sons Of Liberty project via his very public and outspoken appearance on Alex Jones’ radio show, the man behind the controversial and wildly-popular http://www.infowars.com/ and “Prison Planet TV.”

You can download the song “Jeckyll Island” for free on MetalSucks.

You can check out this in-depth interview below where he talks about the song “Jeckyll Island:”

Schaffer handles all vocals and instrumentation for Sons Of Liberty, but the effort also features guest solos by legendary producer Jim Morris, Iced Earth guitarist Troy Seele and world-class bassist, Ruben Drake. Born from Schaffer’s desire to stimulate curiosity about a pattern of global banking corruption that is undermining the independence of people and their countries, Sons Of Liberty aims to spearhead a multi-faceted and peaceful resistance of the tyranny being wrought every day on regular people.

Schaffer, in turn, has reverently named his new project after a secret organization comprised of notable United States’ patriots that formed in 1765. These patriots worked fervently to expose and resist the tyranny that the colonists were subjected to, which ultimately led to the American Revolution.

Other bands including Static X, Atreyu, Children Of Bodom, and Soulfly are slated for upcoming cameo appearances in subsequent issues.

Leon began making noise in London, England in 2005. His highly intricate guitar style exhibits the many influences corralled to create his intense sound — from classical, flamenco, electronica, and ambient genres to the more prominent genres of rock and metal. All of these genres infused to one, Leon has built a cinematic metal fantasia with his music which has branched out to a comic book series. His main aspirations are bringing stories to life through escapism. He utilizes everyday events and his vivid imagination to drive him to create more avenues for his multimedia enterprise. To prove its tangibility, Llexi Leon, has recruited artists from Marvel, DC Comics, “The Darkness” and “Magdelina” on pencils, inks, coloring:

~ Jason Metcalf on pencils and inks, and a driving force behind detailing the “Eternal Descent” world, who previously worked on “The Darkness” and “Magdelina.”

~ David Rivera will begin inking over Jason’s pencils from issue two and beyond, while Javier Tartaglia and Joel Chua, both veterans of many Marvel and DC comics titles, provide stunning colors.

-In This Moment Exclusive Pre-Order, Video Messages And Track-By-Track Video

As the anticipation surrounding the imminent release of the new In This Moment album, A STAR-CROSSED WASTELAND, continues to build up to epic proportions the group launches an in-depth track-by-track video commentary with Maria Brink (vocals) and Chris Howorth (guitars):

The single is also available now exclusively on iTunes.

In This Moment shot a cowboy themed video for the track “The Gun Show” in the Los Angeles, CA area on May 16th. The shoot was helmed by acclaimed director David Brodsky (Suicide Silence, The Black Dahlia Murder). It made its debut exclusively through http://www.revolvermag.com/ on June 15th. “We enlisted our good friend David Brodsky to direct the video. We met Dave a few years ago and became friends and after working with him on our ‘Forever’ video in 2008, he was our first choice for ‘The Gun Show.’ Dave is a very talented guy who has a real passion for making videos and we consider it an honor to be working with him again. Maria Brink and Dave came up with a really interesting treatment for the video and I don’t wanna spoil anything but it involves guns, cowboys, hot cowgirls and headbanging. We also invited a small group of fans to help us make the video extra special. We were feeding off their enthusiasm and energy and it just made the whole thing kick more ass. We always love to involve our fans, without our fans we wouldn’t even be doing this. I can speak for the whole band in saying this is the most fun we have had making a video and we can’t wait to see the results in a couple of weeks. I think people are going to be very pleasantly surprised by the song and the video. Welcome to the f*cking gun show!”

As the anticipation surrounding the imminent release of the new In This Moment album, A STAR-CROSSED WASTELAND, continues to build up to epic proportions the group launches a special pre-order package deal where fans can purchase the new album now for $25 which also comes with an exclusive button, sticker, shirt and autographed photo. These materials can only be found in this CMDistro pre-order package bundle and supplies are limited, so be sure to click on the link below to get your order in now before they are gone. The CD can also be pre-ordered separately for the low price of $10.

In This Moment also recently launched an eye-popping new MySpace layout along with a new video message from Maria Brink (vocals). The clip also debuts the beautiful album cover art for A STAR-CROSSED WASTELAND, which is set for a July 13th release.

In This Moment are extremely excited to be performing on this summer’s much anticipated Rockstar Mayhem Tour playing on the Mayhem Festival Stage alongside Atreyu, Norma Jean and 3 Inches Of Blood. This tour will mark the start of the group’s official, massive worldwide touring schedule for their new full-length album. The group were also hailed by Alternative Press as “One of The Most Anticipated Releases of 2010.” Be sure to visit http://www.myspace.com/inthismoment to view their entire summer touring itinerary

Band: Tom Frelek
Label: Independent
Street Date: March 26, 2010
File Under: Instrumental Rock

Tom Frelek discovered a love for music at an early age when he began to listen to pop rock, mixed rock tapes as well as musical soundtracks he had found (in his parent’s album collection, from local music stores, etc). In addition to Elvis Presley and The Beatles, Tom began to explore heavier rock influences in the early 1990s with bands such as Silverchair, as well as Bush. As Tom’s appreciation for music grew, he had also begun to develop a new love: the sound of heavy guitar.

After seeing his first acoustic guitar, Tom enrolled himself classical lessons. He would begin to develop his technical skills by playing hard rock tunes, practicing several hours everyday.

While listening to songs on his computer Tom had discovered “Master Of Puppets” composed by the heavy metal band Metallica. When he heard the beginning of the heavy and hard hitting riff, Tom’s love for metal was born. Tom stated, “The moment I heard Master of Puppets, I had this huge shiver that went through my entire body… as if something new and exciting was happening.” It was this new appreciation for metal as well as musical technicality that had sparked his interest in many other heavy influences such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and In Flames. His passion for instrumentation would also play a role in his discovery of technical guitarists Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Al dimeola, and John Petrucci.

In 2003, Tom attended school for Audio Engineering, where he learned and developed the skills to create and record music. He would begin to write and record songs with his cousin in the summer of that same year, playing lead guitar at many shows and venues.

In addition to creating songs with his cousin, Tom had also formed a heavy metal band with former high school friends. Naming themselves Reverie, they began to played shows throughout 2007. Reverie had also created a self-titled album, consisting of all nine songs produced, mixed and mastered by Tom.

After the creation Reverie, Tom then formed the progressive metal band Third Dynasty with fellow friend and musician David Kole. They began writing songs throughout 2008, and continue to play shows throughout the downtown Toronto area. In addition to playing live venues, they are currently writing and recording a two-disc progressive rock album.

While involved in numerous musical projects, guitar playing became a high priority in Tom’s life. He had developed a daily practice routine, and started to produce music for various local artists. It was during these many projects that he began to write his Instrumental solo rock album titled MOMENT OF CERTAINTY, released March 26, 2010.

It is Tom Frelek’s love and passion for music that has not only helped him to excel as prominent songwriter, but as an exceptional guitarist in the Toronto music scene.

Band: Sunroad
Album Title: LONG GONE
Street Date: Out Now
Genre: Classic Rock / Metal / Rock

The trip start in the own name, because Sunroad means an inner trip searching for deepest spiritual knowledge and the man-God relation. The group was formed in Goiânia city (province of Goias), Brazil, by the cousins musicians Danillo Vee (guitars, backing vocals) and Fred Mika (drums, backing vocals). Sunroad, in the beginning, was simple a quartet but one year after it changed its line up to be a quintet and it happened many changes till the group establishes around Fred Mika, Jordan Faria (vocals), Thiago Tsuruda and Anderson Lemmy (both guitars) and Akasio Angels (bass, backing vocals).

Sunroad started to makes relative sucess in Goiânia and borderline with its first two albums, HEAT FROM THE ROAD in 1999, distributed only by there and LIGHT UP THE SKY (E.P.) in 2001, distributed by Golden Music Records. The group only tried the national and the international business in 2001/2002, but without great impact.

Some time after some changes, Jordan “Tell” Faria (ex-Forth Dimension, band that’s was opening act for Dr. Sin, Angra and Shaman) com to Sunroad in 2006. Its big chance appeared quickly with the international distribution by Avantage Records of the ARENA OF ALIENS album release, very well received by the national and international critic in countries like Japan, the U.S.A. and all Europe reaching various worldwide charts positions. But some critics felt that group sounds like Scorpions but it doesn’t prevent that Sunroad reached good reputation in the nationals heavy stages, by its technique and dynamic shows. On the last Sunroad album, the appearence with Scorpions just disappeared and the group looks like Sunroad self.

After this, the band released FLYING N’ FLOATING album in 2006 with a Scorpions cover from “Sun In My Hand” song (from the album IN TRANCE, 1975) and Sunroad was regard one of the most important Brazilian group and the main hard rock band from the Midwest of Brazil. In the end of that year the band reached the Top 5 in the American college radios and many shows invitation begun, including a South American tour promoted by the Delzotano management of Peru. Sunroad dealed with Eduardo Bonadia of Strikemet Management. Bonadia was the co-founder and ex-editor of the biggest South America rock magazine, Rock Brigade. Many changes of Sunroad lineup happened since the band foundation. In the second year of Sunroad, they added a second guitar player, Erick Bandeira and one year after both of them (Danillo Vee and Erick Bandeira) were replace by other guitar player Alberto Conde then to Rafael Milhomem and then, finally, was replaced by the guitar player Thiago Tsuruda in 2008. Akasio Angels come to Sunroad in 2001 replacing Halley Douglas (keyboarder) and after turned to play bass in the band.

In December, 2008, the band releases 1996-2006/TEN YEARS TREATING DEAFNESS, collection for the Sunroad’s ten years, since its foundation in 1996 till FLYING N’ FLOATING album release in 2006 and that were recorded between this period, a 15 tracks colletion of four albums. Released by Allegro Discos and Tratore distributor, Sunroad reach very good distribution in several Brazilian cities.

At early 2009, the band musicians are invite for the drummer Garry King (session man of Paul McCartney, Alice Cooper, Ian Gillan and Jeff Beck) and for Andy Robbins (ex-Holy Soldier).

During July 2009, Sunroad is invite to be opening act for South America tour of Joe Lynn Turner (ex-Deep Purple, Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen). After this, Sunroad released the next album, LONG GONE, at December/2009 with more hard rock sound comparing to the others releases due the two guitars format and news shows were booked.

Band: One Soul Thrust
Album Title: 1ST
Label: Simple Saje
Street Date: 2010
Genre: Classic Rock

Passion. It’s said that one can’t be truly creative without passion. Surprising how many bands fall short here when putting the equation together. In the fickle world of music, there is something to be said about a group that doesn’t kow-tow to cookie-cutter trends or cigar-chomping suits looking for the next pop flavour of the month. So if fate chooses to smile the gleaming white grin of prosperity on Edmonton, Canada’s One Soul Thrust then let the justice be done. Their style — modern but classic rock-influenced — lends itself to success without compromise.

From pure rock to funk to soulful blues, it’s all rock and it’s all executed with precision, experience & creativity… but it starts with passion. One Soul Thrust — 1ST for short — puts their passion where their mouth is. And out of that mouth comes the group’s signature sound via lead vocalist/songwriter, Salem Jones. Put Heart’s Ann Wilson and Queensryche’s Geoff Tate in a blender. Ignore all except only the tastiest screams. Mix. Pour. Now throw on their latest opus, 1ST scheduled for release in April 2010. Wielding presence and mystique with an understated but confident sexuality, Salem is the full meal deal of rock singers. Add drummer Todd Pretty’s pounding hypno-grooves, bassist Kim Lesaca’s funk and thunder, and guitarist Jag Mollerup’s thoughtfully aggressive chords and you have the members of what one U.S. journalist called “one of Canada’s best kept secrets.” 1ST is not, thankfully, a secret to all specifically current and former members of Tupelo Honey, Nickelback and The Northern Pikes with whom they’ve worked in the past.

Allmann Bros/Gov’t Mule’s Warren Haynes uses an amp designed by Jag and even Europe hears the 1ST song with well-known Italian musician and producer Alessandro Del Vecchio choosing to produce their most recent CD. Noteably on that CD, Salem made history by being the first Canadian singer (and the second female singer in the world) to record a duet with The Voice of Rock, Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes. Hughes loved her voice and songs enough to suggest they do some tour dates together in 2010. But don’t let this biographer’s shallow dropping of names sway you. The proof is in the proverbial pudding. With four CD releases from a previous project already under their belts and their debut CD on the way you can add prolific to their resume. 1ST’s uniqueness and potential is a standout. To put it in their own words as they kick it live for an audience (and they DO kick it live), “The more we rock the better you feel!”

Band Lineup:
Salem Jones – Lead Vocals
Jag Mollerup – Guitar
Kim Lesaca – Bass
Todd Pretty – Drums

Track Listing:
1. Free Will
2. Immortality
3. I Just Realized
4. Go Home & Melt (feat. Glenn Hughes)
5. Get Away From My Door
6. Love is All We’ve Got
7. So Numb
8. Somethin’s Gonna Happen
9. Good Girl
10. Apology Unnecessary
11. Keep The Truth
12. Look Up

Now that adds up. Check 1ST at http://www.reverbnation.com/onesoulthrus .

Artist: Paddy Leitsch
Label: Sound Lemonade
Street Date: December 1, 2009
From: Chicago, IL, USA

Sounds Like: Joe Satriani, Eddie Van Halen, and Jeff Beck jamming with Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Who, and Massive Attack in a city in the clouds.
File Under: Instrumental Guitar Rock

Summer in the middle of nowhere, with nothing to do, an old guitar, a library and an older brother’s record collection filled with The Beatles, The Who, The Jam and Jimi Hendrix? Why, start a six string revolution! That’s how it all started for Paddy Leitsch in the the heat laden Chicago suburbs during 1987.

With a hankering for anything out of the ordinary, Paddy rejected the traditional vocals and guitar format of his heroes. He was looking for something that put the guitar up front like one would hear a violin section in classical music. At age 14 in 1990, with the release of Eric Johnson’s AH VIA MUSICOM, he found just the inspiration and approach that was needed.

The countless hours of those summers melted into a river of over two decades of intense guitar studies, experimentation and song writing. In a tea pot, sweating in the sun, all of these elements brewed to no less than four full-length independent instrumental guitar releases so far.

Now at the wise man age of 34, the sounds are contemporarily injected and sophisticatedly twisted with elements of electronica (a la Prodigy and Massive Attack). The soundscapes are changing, but the music (which has ALWAYS been the focus — never ever the hype), and the relentless guitar virtuosity dropping from speakers like pure, sun kissed ecstasy, is better than ever, as is showcased on Paddy’s latest release, RISE OF THE GUITAR DRAGON (the Jeet Kune Do of guitar albums).

Music does not live in shimmer, glitter, posing and prostitution. It lives in the purity of the rays pouring out from one’s soul and strings.

Track Listing:
1. A Ferocious Swarm Of Nightmares
2. Hyakki Yako
3. The Gypsy’s Ghost Machine
4. Sonny Dhaii
5. Ain’t No Ham In That Burger
6. Sunday Morning Breakfast

-Addicted To Pain Offer Up A Hellacious Debut Self-Titled Release

Managing to combine the sounds of ’80s era first-wave thrash and ’90s era power metal, Albany, New York’s Addicted To Pain will appeal to a wide variety of heavy metal connoisseurs. Comprised of Leo Curley (vocals, guitar), Bob Horvath (bass), and Gregory Nash (drums), it all started when Bob and Leo met in a band called Eyesore (which included a pre-Shadows Fall Jason Bittner in its ranks), before finding the missing piece to the puzzle with Gregory. But come 2010, the trio has unleashed their first-ever release — a self-titled four-song E.P. — which is available for purchase via iTunes, as well the group’s official site and MySpace page.

And to get that extra added crunch to their sound, the boys enlisted the aid of a gentleman that was there at the dawn of the thrash metal movement, Alex Perialas. “Most amazing/draining recording experience ever,” recalls Curley. “We worked with Alex Perialas (Anthrax, S.O.D., Testament, Pro-Pain, etc.). He really pulled it out of us. It was like working in a piece of metal history — living in the band house and studio where all that happened was humbling. We had a lot to live up to.”

And it turns out that the Perialas/Addicted To Pain union has certainly reaped metallic dividends, as evidenced from all four of the E.P.’s tracks. But the group has specific favorites in mind. Curley: “For me it’s ‘Trust Me.’ This song was a skeleton when we brought it to Alex. He really had a lot to do with the formation of this sweet little ditty. Many vocal rewrites. All the hard work gives me a real sense of pride on this one.” Nash: “‘Here And Now,’ ’cause it’s in 7.” Horvath: “‘Trust Me’ is brutal and ‘Abigail’ for its sound and its lyrical content.”

Addicted To Pain is also gearing up to tour the U.S. in the fall. It won’t be long until headbangers coast to coast will get to experience this fearsome threesome head-on. Or as Curley explains the group’s live show, “Blood, sweat, and tears all over the stage!”

-Heaven Below Signs On With B.C. Rich Guitars

Not only are metal fans picking up on the fast-rising Heaven Below, but now, one of music’s most recognizable and respected guitar brands, B.C. Rich, is now on board as well. Guitarists Patrick Kennison and Jesse Billson are longtime admirers of the guitar brand that has gone hand-in-hand with heavy metal for decades, and now, in addition to being endorsed by B.C. Rich, Heaven Below are showcased on their Web site. Included on B.C. Rich’s Heaven Below “artist page” are photos, videos, and links to the group’s official Web site, as well as to their Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, MySpace pages, plus an artist bio, and a link that takes you to the preferred B.C. Rich model that Kennison and Billson champion, the Mockingbird Special.

“Our sound encompasses the best parts of our influences,” explains Kennison. “We love the vocal harmonies of classic bands like Alice In Chains, or the angst of legends like Trent Reznor, but our riffs and song ideas tend to be spawn from guitar driven bands like Metallica, or even Rage Against The Machine. Once we put the vocals on, we immediately feel that our music takes on its own sound.” And on their self-titled release, Heaven Below (which also includes John Younger on bass and Chad Clark on drums) shows that despite being such a young band, they can easily keep pace with the top dogs of the current rock scene — especially on such standout tracks as “When Daylight Dies,” which was produced by Grammy-award winning/multi-platinum artist Ben Moody of Evanescence.

With touring plans to support their debut disc being firmed up, it won’t be long until you can catch the dynamic duo rocking their B.C. Rich guitars on a stage near you!

-Wild Eye Strikes Cult Movie GOLD With Lost Rock Oddity

A turned-on tale of the new American dream featuring a soundtrack with unreleased music from the MC5 and starring the godfather of Improv comedy, Del Close.

Wild Eye Releasing and MVD Visual are pleased to announce the release of GOLD: BEFORE WOODSTOCK. BEYOND REALITY. for North American distribution on July 27. Considered a “lost” film for 40 years, and pre-dating Woodstock, GOLD has been found again… This is its first time ever on any form of home video, and includes commentary with founding members of The Upright Citizen’s Brigade.

Check out the trailer here:

In 1968, filmmaker Bob Levis led a rag-tag band of dreamers, drop outs and drug-happy darlings into the wilderness to make a movie and emerged a month later with GOLD, a bizarre and beautiful journey into the mind and madness of the late 1960s — one overflowing with fantasies of revolution, recreation and raunchy free love. At once a western, a comedy, a nudie, a drama and a musical — GOLD is a profound potpourri made in the spirit of shaking down square society, while systematically shattering every movie rule in the process. But then the film vanished, lost like the generation from which it came… Until now.

Starring the father of improvisational comedy Del Close (“The Untouchables,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”), Garry Goodrow (“Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice,” “The Hollywood Knights”), and fueled by the hard kickin’ sounds of the MC5 and more, GOLD is a tawdry and twisted testament to a time when the world was ready for change, and the counter-culture set out to turn it upside-down.

Bonus Materials

· Commentary with director Bob Levis and star Garry Goodrow

· Special commentary track from Upright Citizens Brigade founding members Matt Walsh (“The Hangover,” “Reno 911!”) and Ian Roberts (“Reno 911!”)

-Black Skies: North Carolina Doom Brigade Issue Tour Update

North Carolina doom brigade, Black Skies, who announced their U.S. tour throughout July earlier this month have added three more confirmed dates to the trek. Those dates include June 12 at Jambalaya in Arcata, CA, June 19 at The Nightmare in Dallas, TX and July 21 at Checkpoint Charlie’s In new Orleans, LA. Updated tour itinerary below.

The band will hit the road with a new lineup, new songs and a high energy live display of sonic power they’ve built their name upon. Founding members Kevin Clark and Michelle Temple will be joined by ex-Des Ark drummer Tim Herzog. Former roommates, Kevin and Tim have remained in contact over the years and are very much looking forward to the opportunity to finally make music together. Black Skies’ new material retains the heaviness of their earlier work, with more dynamic song structures and a psychedelic edge creating a more interesting overall sound. Following the tour, the band will begin preparations for recording what they hope to be their best release to date.

Says guitarist Kevin Clark of the upcoming trek: “We’ve had our share of ups and downs over the past 12 months, but getting out west last year was without a doubt one of the better moments. We are thrilled to be heading out there again this summer, seeing the faces and places that made it such a blast. We played with a lot of great bands and met a lot of awesome souls with a true love and hunger for music. Those people are a big part of the drive for us to continue doing what we love to do, and we are eternally grateful for them.”

Black Skies released their HEXAGON E.P. on vinyl last year via underground Chicago imprint I’m Better Than Everyone Records. Featuring songs made of heavy, well-thought out (and equally well-executed) riffs alongside churning organic grooves, HEXAGON sports a tonal chemistry befitting of a legendary band sharing the same initials, yet with a decidedly American flavor. Through hard work and a DIY drive, Black Skies continue gaining momentum with their live output.

-New Jersey Folk Metal Horde Windfaerer Post New Tracks

New Jersey folk metal horde Windfaerer — M. Gonçalves [Vocals, Guitars, Bass], JP Andrade [Percussion] and Valèek [Violin] — recently posted two new tracks to their official MySpace page.

“These Walls (Frozen In Time)” and “This Beautiful Death” (which features bagpipe work by Sevan Kirder, formerly of Eluveitie) come off the trio’s debut full-length, TRIBUS. Check out the tracks here:

TRIBUS was recorded and mixed at Frightbox Recording (Clifton, NJ) by Bobby Torres and follows the band’s two-song demo GLORYBOUND, released last year to mass underground accolades.

Said main songwriter Goncalves of the new tunes: “TRIBUS is in essence a collection of everyday themes set in a time of Iberian legend. The songs touch upon rebellion against Romans in ancient Hispania and Lusitania, expansion to new lands, as well as voyaging into the unknown. I’m excited about the way everything sounds and how it all came together. I’ve had this vision for a while and it’s almost euphoric to be able to finally realize it!”

Further details on TRIBUS to follow shortly…

Download the GLORYBOUND demo here: http://www.purevolume.com/windfaerer

“I will summarize the work of Windfaerer with a word: perfect!” – Pest Webzine

“If you were to hear GLORYBOUND without knowing who the band was you would be taken aback, and never would you realize that this is a band so early on in their career. Expect big things from the very impressive new band!” 8.5/10 – Evil Inquisition

“Windfaerer may make a name for themselves in the Pagan metal genre, and you may want to check them out.” – Metal Flows In My Veins

“The folk-inspired metal scene is at bursting point, so is there really room for another band in that genre? Well, with Windfaerer, the answer is a resounding yes.” – Zero Tolerance

-Legendary Stoner Rock Icons Sleep Announce Fall Tour

Legendary stoner rock band Sleep split in 1997 after two hugely influential albums. Members went on to form underground heroes OM and High On Fire, and more recently metal supergroup Shrinebuilder. This Fall, original members Al Cisneros and Matt Pike will be joined by drummer Jason Roeder of Neurosis to perform the seminal HOLY MOUNTAIN album as well as selections from Dopesmoker and more.

Sleep debuted with 1991’s VOLUME ONE album, recorded for San Francisco label Tupelo. Earache Records received the band’s next recordings in the mail as a demo. The label — impressed by Sleep’s single-mindedness and unique vision — immediately signed the band and released the tape exactly as it was received. Record stores worldwide stocked Sleep’s HOLY MOUNTAIN from November 1992 to this day.

The band then signed to London Records. Their debut album for the major took the form of one mammoth 63-minute leviathan of a track entitled “Jerusalem.” The band resisted the label’s attempts at radio edits and bringing in their own engineer to remix the album in view of “marketability.” London baulked at the prospect of promoting what probably still is the most extreme music ever recorded for a major label, so shelved the recording and dropped the band.

Sleep’s music has been featured in films by Harmony Korine and Jim Jarmusch.

9/09/2010 – Logan Square Auditorium – Chicago, IL w/ Lichens
9/10/2010 – Mohawk – Austin, TX w/ Sub Oslo
9/11/2010 – Roseland Theater/Music Fest NW – Portland, OR w/ Scott Kelly, YOB

-Debut Dusted Angel Full-Length Charges Towards Summer Release

Santa Cruz doom ‘n rollers Dusted Angel have just completed their debut full-length, and are putting the final touches on this beast, planning for it to be set loose this late this summer.

The burly, self-titled, seven-track melee was put to tape in San Francisco by sludgemonger Billy Anderson (High On Fire, Neurosis, Sleep) in April, mastered at TrakWorx Studios, and will see release mid-late summer on Mankind Records — a division of Revelation Records. A solid year of live shows along the west coast have the members of Dusted Angel conditioned to jam tighter than ever, building upon the rocking hardcore-meets-stoner/doom dynamics fans of the band already love, and taking these songs to massive new levels of crushing groove. The official release date, as well as the album’s track listing and cover art, will all be announced in the coming weeks.

Several strings of California gigs, including record release shows and more, are being scheduled for the coming months building towards the album’s release, and the band will also relocate to the east coast for a battery of shows sometime later this year.

Dusted Angel contains members of crucial skatecore legends Bl’ast, metal experimentalists Spaceboy, sonic mindf*ckers Gargantula and more. All longtime friends from time spent in previous bands, or just from growing up in the Santa Cruz skate/surf/slam scene together for the past 20 years, brought the band together in 2008. They’ve done nothing but rock ever since…

Stay tuned for more updates on the album, the shows, the chaos, of Dusted Angel.

Hype about the French melodic progressive metal band: “Shadyon combines progressive parts, powerful riffs and AOR melodies and blend them together in a tasteful way, and create their own brand of melodic progressive metal. Their musical inspiration comes from widely spread bands as Toto, Devin Townsend, Ark, In Flames, Winger and Evergrey.”

-Spent some gift money the other day on the new releases from Ratt (finally!), Vince Neil, and Ozzy. After a quick pass through each of them I’d probably rank ’em in that order, too. What you’ve read about the Ratt disc is all true: it rocks! Kudos, boys!! (I don’t “get” the cover and booklet artwork though… It just strikes me as stupid. I expected something cooler with a title like INFESTATION.) Yes, Vince Neil’s TATTOOS & TEQUILA is mostly covers but some of them have that poppy, snotty TOO FAST FOR LOVE-era Motley vibe which is a good thing. These two albums were pretty immediate, whereas I think Ozzy’s SCREAM is more of a grower. I liked the single “Let Me Hear You Scream” right off, but otherwise I can’t remember much because I was distracted trying to discern all the images hidden in the artwork… Stay tuned.

-That David “Rock” Feinstein press release actually came out last week, right after I’d sent out the issue that had the Magic Circle Music press release to which Feinstein’s statement was referring. Sorry for any confusion. Can’t we all just get along here? But on a side note, the cover artwork for that MAGIC tribute album to Dio looks killer.

-I interviewed Lillian Axe guitarist/main man Steve Blaze yesterday, about the new album DEEP RED SHADOWS, the band’s recent prolific period, and a few other things. He was actually on vacation at the time of our chat, but he was a trooper and answered my questions dutifully. Hopefully I’ll have it transcribed next week. (And get ready for some pretty big Lillian Axe news, too! -Patrick)

-Here are my favorite song titles mentioned in this issue:
Tom Frelek – “Crispy Critter” (kinda funny)
Paddy Leitsch – “Ain’t No Ham In That Burger” (simply awesome)
Grave – “Extremely Rotten Flesh” (because mere “Rotten Flesh” just isn’t brutal enough)

-In my current playlist: Ratt – INFESTATION (Roadrunner/Loud & Proud), Vince Neil – TATTOOS & TEQUILA (Eleven Seven Music), Ozzy Osbourne – SCREAM (Epic).
