-Lion Music Label / Artist News

Day Six Sign To Lion Music

Lion Music are delighted to have signed Dutch progressive rock/metal band Day Six for their new album THE GRAND DESIGN to the label’s roster.

Since forming in 2002, Day Six have become a mainstay on the live Dutch music scene and won two major competitions in the Netherlands: the Metal Battle and the Aardschok Metal Bash. As a result Day Six have grown to be one of the most well known progressive metal bands in the Netherlands and with the worldwide release of THE GRAND DESIGN, Lion Music aim to introduce the band to a wider audience.

With a sound that combines elements from across progressive music’s history, the band have come up with a unique take on the genre which is equal parts dark and light making great use of dynamics and textures. Comparisons could be made between a fusion of Pink Floyd, Rush and Opeth where colossal guitar riffs collide and intertwine with synthesized textures for a truly mesmerizing effect.

The band’s live show is also winning rave reviews with the four piece of Robbie van Stiphout (Guitars/Vocals), Nick Verstappen (Bass), Dolf van Heugten (Synthesizers) and Daan Liebregts (Drums) wowing audiences with their spectacular live show.

Day Six’s THE GRAND DESIGN is comprised of 9 tracks and clocks in at over 70 minutes and it set for release on Lion Music on June 18th, 2010. A preview sampler of the album can be heard at the band’s official Web sites http://www.day-six.com/ and http://myspace.com/daysixweb .

Full album information to follow soon.

A number of studio updates in this week…

Seventh Wonder

Seventh Wonder are currently in their new home studio (Studio Wonderland) recording the music and vocals for what will be the follow-up to the universally praised MERCY FALLS album. The band are still deciding where to mix the album after the recording has been completed. More information on this highly anticipated release to come soon.

Sun Caged

Sun Caged are in the process of mixing their third album which has the working title THE LOTUS EFFECT (TBC) which will mark their first effort with new bassist Daniel Kohn. Some titles of new songs include “Shades Of Hades,” “Driftwood,” “All But Gone,” “Tip-Toe The Fault Line,” “On Again / Off Again,” “Lotus,” “Seamripper,” and “The Blanket Statement.” Guitarist Marcel Coenen has reported in the following. “Expect an album with some new influences, one song has a typically salsa groove throughout the song, an other song has a real blast beat in it, plus we also recorded a really long epic song, divided into seven parts (total length about 24 minutes) which will close the album.”

Status Minor

Status Minor are also in the process of finishing up the recording of their second album OUROBOROS which is slated for a September 2010 release. To follow on the from the drum and bass teaser studio videos the band have released a couple of clips which focus on guitars and keyboards. Check out the new videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/Julukki .

Further studio updates continue to come in from keyboard virtuoso Mistheria who is piecing together his all star new neo-classical progressive opus DRAGON’S FIRE.

To follow on from the news that drummer John Macaluso (Ark, Union Radio) has completed all his drum parts we can now report that John West (ex Royal Hunt, Artension) is recording his vocals and has checked in with the following on Mistheria’s Web site: “After meeting Mistheria and playing live together in Croatia with Emir Hot, I knew someday we would make music together. He asked me to write and sing on his new solo album, and I was very excited. Now, we are in the midst of the recordings and I must say this is some of the absolute best music I have ever made to date!”

Also on the vocal side of proceedings Lance King (Balance Of Power) has finished tracking vocals for the track “Two Of Us” and commented “The song is both melodic and powerful, full of harmonisations, definitely a killer song!” Rob Rock (Impellitteri, Rage Of Creation) enters the studio next week to record vocals on “Lies And Deception” and Mark Boals (Royal Hunt, Ring Of Fire, ex Malmsteen) is recording vocals for the track “Metal Opera 82” which Mistheria describes as a mix between Metal and astonishing Tenor vocals. Mistheria also reports that Titta Tani (Astra) did an awesome job on “Fire & Flames” and the ballad “A Beautiful Dream.” In addition Titta is going to record vocals for the title track duet with John West.

On the guitar side of the album George Bellas (solo, Ring Of Fire, Mogg/Way) has already recorded rhythm and lead guitar for four songs. Roger Staffelbach (Artension, Angel Of Eden) enters the studio next week to record his parts. Emir Hot (solo) has also already recorded his guitar solo on the song “Fire & Flames” and Neil Zaza will record next week his tracks for “Now It’s Never.” Bassist Dino Fiorenza has recorded his parts for five songs and four more to do.

Track titles for the album (in no particular order) are: “Fire & Flames,” “Two Of Us,” “Chopin Fantasie,” “The Power Of One,” “Killing The Pain,” “Dragon Fire,” “The Beast,” “A Beautiful Dream,” “Metal Opera 82,” “Now It’s Never” and “Lies And Deception.”

Mistheria – DRAGON’S FIRE is currently slated for a Autumn 2010 release (subject to change).

Latest & Next Releases

Mattsson – TANGO
Genre – Progressive Metal

Mattsson is a name that has become synonymous with melodic progressive metal fused with symphonic, neo-classical and ethnic touches. This direction is continued and taken to a higher level for TANGO, the fifth album to be released under the Mattsson banner. Led by guitarist / composer Lars Eric Mattsson, TANGO sees the collaboration between Mattsson and vocalist Adrienn Antal who first paired up on 2008’s DREAMCHILD release build upon its predecessors impressive foundations for this overall heavier release.

Cyril Achard – VIOLENCIA
Genre – Guitar Instrumental

French guitarist Cyril Achard is back in an aggressive power trio format for VIOLENCIA, an album which boasts just one guitar with no overdubs working with a grooving rhythm section. VIOLENCIA marks Achard’s most metal and aggressive of all his electric guitar releases and proves itself to be an accessible instrumental offering with Achard’s best playing to date in a rock setting.

-Empyreon, Suspyre Members Join New Power Metal Band Forever’s Edge — New Album Information

Debuting this year is a new power metal band, Forever’s Edge formed by New Jersey guitarist Salvatore Pisano, and including keyboardist Mike Khalilov (Empyreon, Revolution Renaissance), singer Clay Barton (Suspyre), bassist Andrew Distabile (Suspyre), and drummer Frank Godla (Empyreon, Dividing Light). Female vocals are done by Sue MacPherson. Their first album CHAOTIC SILENCE will be released on July 13, 2010 through Nightmare Records and Distribution. It is now available through digital retailers iTunes and Amazon.com.

CHAOTIC SILENCE showcases the usual power metal formula with a touch of progressive orchestration by Gregg Rossetti (Suspyre). The album was produced and mixed by Erypsus Studios in Flemington, New Jersey.

Sal Pisano gives us insight into the album’s creation, “CHAOTIC SILENCE is an overture, not simply of music but of life. Conceptual, it is a collection of stories that metaphorically create a semblance of experiences we as people go through: triumph, dissatisfaction, mourning, joy, love, and hate.

“The albums creation itself is an actual evolution. Some songs in there can be traced back to when I was first beginning to play guitar, and wrote a song way back in 2004. And some songs are as fresh as 2008. The album progressed musically as I progressed musically. Plus a good portion of the album was written when I underwent a very dark and not so joyous time. You can hear it in the music. I love to use metaphors and create characters, the literal meaning is still there and some will be able to tell what it’s all about.”

Track Listing includes:

1. Our Hopes, Our Dreams
2. Everlost
3. Demon Creation
4. Divide In I
5. In The Dark
6. Mourning Star – Forever And Never
7. Damnation – We Rise
8. The Epiphany Of Music
9. Endlessly
10. Closed Eyes

-Mike Keneally Band & Bryan Beller Band Set To Launch Northeast Tour In Early May

Musician in Frank Zappa’s last touring band and Dethklok hits the road

NEW YORK, NY — World-renowned virtuoso guitarist and multi-instrumentalist / composer Mike Keneally is set to launch his first full-band tour in nearly five years, bringing his ever-evolving, remarkably inventive musical vision to the Northeast U.S. in early May for five shows in support of his latest Exowax Recordings release, SCAMBOT 1.

From Keneally’s well-documented recorded work as a guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist in Frank Zappa’s last touring band, to his recordings and performances with Robert Fripp, Dethklok, Wayne Kramer, Steve Vai, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Andy Partridge and many others, he’s earned a reputation as someone who can bring an intense, original musical voice to any situation. His extensive and wildly diverse original catalog of 19 albums and counting defies traditional classification, and concertgoers are regularly left awestruck by his band’s high-wire-act execution of the eclectic material. Time Out New York says “this band, with such a peculiar genius leading it, is a thing to savor.”

In a unique twist, this tour’s Mike Keneally Band members also comprise the opening act, the band of Keneally’s longtime bassist Bryan Beller (Steve Vai, Dethklok), whose intricate jazz/rock compositions and tasteful playing earned his sophomore album THANKS IN ADVANCE widespread acclaim (“A bonafide entry for bass album of the year” – Chris Jisi, Bass Player Magazine). The sneakily-titled “They’re Both The Same Band” Northeast Tour 2010 features Keneally, Beller, drummer Joe Travers (Zappa Plays Zappa), and guitarists Rick Musallam (Ben Taylor, Byrd York) and Griff Peters (Billie Myers, Anika Paris).

-Two Side Moon/SLW Promotions Update

Band: Stairway
Label: Stairway Music/Code7 Music
Release Date: April 5th, 2010
Style: Modern Classic British Hard Rock

Stairway is Graeme Leslie (Vocals & Bass Guitar), Pete Jennens (Guitar) and Andy Edwards (Drums).

The Debut CD, NO REST: NO MERCY, produced by Paul Hodson (Hard Rain, Bob Catley, Ten), was released in 1993 and hailed the band’s International popularity. The album was released in Japan later that same year, and debuted at #48 in the Japanese Import Charts.

During the following years Stairway independently released the CDs BLEEDING HEART in 1999 and ON HALLOWED GROUND in 2002. Following up on this success, Stairway signed a Licensing deal in 2005 with American Label Retroactive Records to re-release the NO REST: NO MERCY album. Shows were booked to follow this up which included an appearance at Metalfest Germany co-headlining with Rob Rock (Impellitteri) and Narnia.

In 2006 the band released their 4th CD, THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT, to great reviews and media feedback worldwide which saw its debut Chart entry at #2 in the U.S.A.’s National College Chart.

Stairway is pleased to release this their 5th studio album INTERREGNUM.

Stairway can be heard at their very best on this brand new album: from the solid compositions, through to the powerful solid drumming of Andy Edwards, the rip roaring guitars of Pete Jennens, pumping bass lines and the soaring velvet tones of vocalist Graeme Leslie. Here you have a modern classic Hard Rock album that never ceases to please, combining the brilliance of Iron Maiden with the vocal mastery of Queen and sees the band evolving with every note, every song and every lyric. Coupled with artwork by world renowned artist Rodney Matthews (Magnum, Asia), INTERREGNUM is an unapologetically anthemic hard rock album; here, Stairway has matched and maybe even surpassed their highly successful 2006 album THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT.

With past nominations for Best CD and Best Band in the NMW Awards in Hollywood, U.S.A. and festival appearances with Blaze Bayley, and Blitzkrieg, this marks the continued success of one of rock’s best-kept secrets and future giants!

Rock Has Returned… Not with a whimper; but with an earth shattering combination of power and passion!

“If balls out rock music with melodic and lyrical songs are your cup of tea, then FULL MELTDOWN should go down easily and leave a pleasant afterglow.” ~ Dick Wagner

FULL MELTDOWN features 15 lost and newly discovered songs recorded by Wagner between 1979 and 1995 — a journey of pure Rock and Roll songs and dazzling guitar virtuosity. When Wagner’s guitar enters, you are swept away to the land of rock love and history; towel dried at the end by the sirens of soul… and accompanied by some of the finest musicians in Rock ‘n’ Roll.

To Listen:

Produced by Dick Wagner.
Musician Credits:
Dick Wagner: Vocals and Lead Guitars, with cool musician friends: Fred Mandel, Gregg Bissonette, Jack White, Matt Bissonette, Ian Gardiner, Greg Schroeder, Jay Henshall, Norman Jolly, Mark Williamson, Jeff Morley, Chuck McKenna, John Sands, Dave Branch, Brad Hallen.

Legendary for his groundbreaking collaborations with Alice Cooper — for whom he was musical director, lead guitarist and co-writer of the icon’s biggest hits — Dick Wagner’s songs and lead guitar have been featured on more than 150 renowned albums for legendary artists including Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Kiss, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel and many more. Wagner has garnered more than 30 Platinum and Gold Records and numerousBMI Songwriter Awards.

“To play this album only once is like pouring a Chateau Margaux ’61 into a shot glass and downing it with salt and lemon like an end-of-the-night Tequila shot. That’s not the way I drink exotic French wine, or the way I listen to FULL MELTDOWN. Each listen gleans me a new favorite song. Like a fine wine, this album ages well. Truly a record to be savored, which is a rare thing in a world enamored with fast food and instant gratification. Enjoy.” – Matt Brooks

“This collection of songs rips one right back to the energy of youth, the fire of the eighties, and the innocence of driving down a fast highway with friends, carefree, wired, windows open not giving a damn… Emotions are expressed and stories are told in a languishing, rushing, pulsing long breath… The guitar playing, singing, and every other aspect of musicianship and production are performance art at its finest… Harkening back to a memory when I was living in Saudi Arabia (not too long ago) and languishing with the army boys by the Red Sea: this album would have been perfect right there with AC/DC and Led Zeppelin for those early mornings and all night seaside camp-outs when the waves rolled in.” – Lorelei Loveridge, President-Artist Orderly Bazaar Records & Publishing

Band: ManStrand
Genre: Hard Rock
Release Date: Out Now

Carl Månstrand is front man for new Swedish band ManStrand. At the end of 2008 Carl got an idea to start a band to showcase his songs. Carl had already played four years with another band called Freedom who played very soft pop music with a female lead vocalist! Carl approached bassist Fredrik Appelgren and the guys agreed to work together. After that Carl contacted guitarist Richard Hoerberg because he wanted a good and fast solo guitar player. Next he needed to fix the drum stool and contacted studio drummer Håkan Hansson after a several of choices and delays!

Next was to begin recording of Carl’s project. Carl started recording the CD in February 2009 at his home studio. At first Carl thought his project would be completed by May. He was wrong. When you have multiple people involved in a project the more time it takes to complete the sessions. Incidentally, Carl also bought in three female vocalists to sing background vocals.

Five of my 12 songs on the CD were old songs Carl wrote some years ago, everything else is brand new. Richard bought some ideas tot the table, especially on the songs “Come On” and “Classica.” Carl liked the ideas and added them! At first Carl didn’t know what ManStrand’s genre belonged to, so just for fun he adoped a new genre: Whiplash Metal! Radios then classified the bands music as Classic Hard Rock! Carl’s idea was to fix a label to distribute the album, but then he decided it was better to wait for a short time. Carl wants to get his music out to the media, especially Radios amd maybe keep ManStrand independent.

Since January 2010 many Radio Stations over the world have contacted the band wishing to add their music On Air. Half of them called the band first! ManStrand was the number one choice at European Klassik Rock (E.K.R) Radio Station in February 2010. Their song “Classica” got voted by the listeners.

“Heavy Metal Mayhem Radio Show” wrote: “First Sweden gave us Vikings and now they give us ManStrand. Harking back to the glory days of Hard Rock And Metal, this three piece powerhouse bring to mind the sound created years ago by Deep Purple, Rainbow, Hendrix and Black Sabbath. Their music I thought was a perfect fit to be featured with tonight’s guest Joe Lynn Turner.”

Carl says the band musical style is inspired by Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Jimi Hendrix, Rainbow, The Sweet, Rainbow, UFO, etc.

ManStrand are now busy recording their next CD with Sound engineer Mr. Bryan from U.S.A., who has worked with Michael Jackson, Rising Force (Yngwie Malmsteen), etc., the sound will be perfect!! It will be ’70s, ’80s style Classic Hard Rock!

Carl Månstrand – Lead vocals and guitar

Band: T. Clemente Band
Album Title: ILLUSIONS
Genre: Hard Rock
Release Date: Out Now

Teddy Clemente, an Industrial Process & Automation Control Engineer for 30 plus years, was immigrated from the Philippines to the United States of America back in 1981. He was introduced to Rock Music way back in his grade school days when he heard the song “Highway Star” by Deep Purple. That changes his music taste to Rock Music.

The album ILLUSIONS is all about life, our children, our environment and our world spiced up with rock music influenced by great rock artists. We also encourage people to speak their minds and don’t hold back. If you don’t like what you hear or see on what’s going on in this world, you need to express yourself… we do.

The band who help create this project:
Teddy Clemente – Song writer for all 10 songs, lead & rhythm guitars, acoustic guitar, back up vocals.
Thom Duell – Lead Vocals, rhythm guitars, mandolin.
Robert Berry – rhythm & bass guitars, keys, did back-up vocals and took care of the recording and sound/mixing/engineering of the record.
David Lauser – Drums

Review from Strutterzine, Angel Fire:

Here we have a really high quality independent recording from a band out of San Francisco, U.S.A. They are called the T. Clemente Band, formed around excellent guitarist Teddy Clemente (a la Ritchie Blackmore), who is also the songwriter of all 10 songs on this album. Thom Duell (a la Ian Parry and Jeff Fenholt) takes care of the vocals and he happens to be blessed with a superb voice, so we are talking about something really interesting here. Musically taking a bit of Rainbow, Uriah Heep, Zeno, Q5 and especially Queensryche meets Joshua meets Triumph with some Metal riffs added, mixing this all together with awesome vocal and guitar work, you basically end up with this awesome CD titled ILLUSIONS. Especially the songs “Life,” “Come Fly Away,” and “Prisoner Of War” are very impressive tunes to check out A.S.A.P. if your heart belongs to quality Progressive Rock/Metal with a Classic Hard Rock vibe like a mix of mentioned acts and you want to hear beautiful melodies in all arrangements as well. The CD has a huge sound, partly thanks to the legendary George Horn (a Soul/Funk/Jazz legend!), who mastered the CD and also a special mention also needs to made for Robert Berry (3, Hush, solo, etc.) who played guitars, keys, did back-up vocals and took care of the recording and sound/mixing/engineering of the record, thumbs up to both for doing a great job here!

Leon began making noise in London, England in 2005. His highly intricate guitar style exhibits the many influences corralled to create his intense sound — from classical, flamenco, electronica, and ambient genres to the more prominent genres of rock and metal. All of these genres infused to one, Leon has built a cinematic metal fantasia with his music, which has branched out to a comic book series. His main aspirations are bringing stories to life through escapism.

Leon utilizes everyday events and his vivid imagination to drive him to create more avenues for his multimedia enterprise. To prove its tangibility, Leon, who is responsible for the basic concept artwork, storyboards, and character design/creation, has assembled a team of artists through Space Goat Productions, including:

~ Jason Metcalf on pencils and inks, and a driving force behind detailing the “Eternal Descent” world, who previously worked on “The Darkness” and “Magdelina.”

~ David Rivera will begin inking over Jason’s pencils from issue two and beyond, while Javier Tartaglia and Joel Chua, both veterans of many Marvel and DC comics titles, provide stunning colors.

Leon began his own production company, Incendium Records, to release his first concept album LOSING FAITH and the E.P. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. This fulfilled Leon’s dream of having all Eternal Descent media developed with the highest standards under one roof.

The “Eternal Descent” comic book issue #1 hit store shelves March 31st. To find a comic shop near you, call 1-888-comicbook or visit http://www.comicshoplocator.com/ . A 5-page preview of the comic is available online at http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=4792&disp=table .

-What’s up with Sensory’s aquatic themed releases? I recently got Haken’s AQUARIUS, which has a very gritty, realistic picture of a robed guy holding a dying(?) mermaid. (It’s vivid. I swear when I look at it I can smell fish. And, she’s bleeding — is the guy helping or hurting her? I WANT TO KNOW!!!) Then yesterday I got Wuthering Heights’s excellent newie, SALT, whose cover art shows a decaying, wrecked ship. Ahoy mateys.

-Another amazing nugget I’d never heard, courtesy of Wikipedia: Alice Cooper was romantically linked to Raquel Welch in the 1970s. Wow.

-I know it’s the dude’s name and all, but “ManStrand” is just an unappealing band name. I’m sorry.

-In my current playlist: Armored Saint – LA RAZA (Metal Blade), Scorpions – STING IN THE TAIL (UMe), Wuthering Heights – SALT (Sensory), Phantom-X – THIS IS WAR (Perris Records).
