-Triumph’s Majestic Arena Anthems Celebrated On New CD/DVD Set, GREATEST HITS: REMIXED

Few acts could whip an arena full of rockers into a frenzy as Triumph did throughout the late ’70s and ’80s, when the group’s best known lineup — guitarist/vocalist Rik Emmett, bassist/keyboardist Mike Levine, and drummer/vocalist Gil Moore — were at the peak of their powers. And it’s this exact time period that is focused on throughout Triumph’s new “best of” set — GREATEST HITS: REMIXED — which will be released on May 18, 2010.

All of the classic tunes that were — and continue to be — in heavy rotation on rock radio (and the early days of MTV) are included here, namely, “Lay It On The Line,” “Hold On,” “Fight The Good Fight,” “Magic Power,” etc.

These fourteen tracks of anthemic metal have never sounded so good, as they were all recently remixed by Rich Chycki (who has previously worked with Aerosmith and Rush). The set also includes a previously unreleased recording — “Love Hurts” — which will be the lead-off single from Triumph’s GREATEST HITS: REMIXED.

“We have been planning this release forever,” says Levine. “For years, Triumph fans have been demanding that we give them a fresh greatest hits package and they are going to love this one.”

Also included in the set is a DVD mixed in 5.1 audio, that features eleven promo and live videos in widescreen (plus additional unreleased videos for “Child Of The City,” “Blinding Light Show,” and “Love Hurts,” and footage of the group’s 2008 induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame).

The deluxe two-disc package will be housed in a six-panel digi-pak — including a 20-page color booklet, complete with liner notes, lyrics, and chockfull of vintage photos.

Whether you’re a long-time Triumph fanatic or a new convert, you have never heard the group as crystal clear and loud n’ proud as you will throughout GREATEST HITS: REMIXED. “GREATEST HITS: REMIXED rocks like no other Triumph set,” declares Moore. “This is the definitive Triumph collector’s edition.”

-Sweden Rock Festival Update

[Note: This combines several different updates. – Tim]

June 9-12, Solvesborg

Dream Evil To Sweden Rock!

One of Sweden’s most beloved heavy/power metal-bands was formed by guitarist and HammerFall producer Fredrik Nordström. The lineup was completed by Greek guitar virtuoso Gus G (Firewind and currently Ozzy Osbourne), singer Niklas Isfeldt, bassist Peter Stålfors and drum veteran Snowy Shaw (Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, etc.) and debuted in 2002. Dream Evil’s big native break came with album number three, THE BOOK OF HEAVY METAL (2004). The title track was an immediate anthem with Swedish metalheads and is already an established classic. January 2010 saw the release of the band’s fifth album IN THE NIGHT, where Dream Evil prove that despite a few lineup changes, they still adhere to melodic heavy metal with a healthy hint of humor.

Skyclad To Sweden Rock!

Skyclad, 20 years old this year, is often called the first folk metal act. Their blend of thrash metal and Celtic folk music made them one of the genuinely unique bands of the early ’90s. Many were also impressed with the exceptionally witty lyrics by then singer Martin Walkyier (ex-Sabbat). After ten albums, including classics like JONAH’S ARK (1993) and PRINCE OF THE POVERTY LINE (1994), Walkyier left the band in 2001. Skyclad then promoted guitarist Kevin Ridley to front man, and restored the fans’ confidence with the impressive A SEMBLANCE OF NORMALITY (2004). Skyclad’s most recent release is IN THE ALL… TOGETHER (2009), a marked step towards their early, earthbound roots. If you like folk metal but have not yet discovered Skyclad, don’t miss their SRF debut — this is the band that inspired all of your idols.

30th Anniversary At Sweden Rock Festival: Michael Schenker Group

It is now 30 years since German guitar hero Michael Schenker released the eponymous debut of the Michael Schenker Group. This made him a third time creator of hard rock history, after co-founding Scorpions and elevating Brits UFO to superstardom. Now Schenker is about to enter the stage to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Armed And Ready,” “Cry For The Nations” and the rest of the classics on MSG’s debut. By his side we find two more band members from that era: drummer Simon Phillips (Judas Priest, Mike Oldfield, Ian Gillan, Toto) and not least vocalist Gary Barden. Schenker’s trusted associate Wayne Findlay delivers rhythm guitar and keyboards, while the bass comes courtesy of legend Neil Murray (Whitesnake, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath, Brian May). A formiddable dream team for any fan of traditional melodic hard rock.

Epica To Sweden Rock!

Every cloud has a silver lining. When guitarist Mark Jansen was forced to leave After Forever, as a consequence the new band Epica emerged. The latter group debuted with THE PHANTOM AGONY in 2003, and quickly made a name for themselves on the rising scene dominated by Nightwish and Within Temptation. Epica’s defining features included the vocals of Simone Simons and the philosophical, new age-tinted lyrics. Third album THE DIVINE CONSPIRACY (2007) elevated their career even further. Last year’s DESIGN YOUR UNIVERSE followed, and there is no doubt that Epica is currently one of the hottest names in melodic metal.

-Escape Music News

Release: April 23, 2010

Formed in 1980, this dedicated hard rock band from the Boston area has had numerous accomplishments. Most notably, they have sold over 100,000 albums worldwide and performed with great acts such as Hanoi Rocks, Molly Hatchet, Winger, Stryper, Cheap Trick, Girlschool, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Hurricane, Grim Reaper, Steven Stills and The Ramones along with many many others. Their first self-titled E.P. with producer Jon Mathias was recorded at The Record Plant in New York City. The E.P. sold over 10,000 copies in the Boston area alone, and was enough to get record companies’ attention. Their first major label debut, NEW BIRTH with the single “Do You Love Me,” was number one for over six weeks at many radio stations along the east coast. In 1987 it was followed by TAKE YOU HOME and VOICES IN THE NIGHT which was produced by Michael Sweet of Stryper. In 2007 Escape Music released CRACK OF DAWN and excited old fans of the band as well as attracting many new ones. It’s now 2010 and the band have been working harder than ever for the new release SEA OF BLACK, an album that is chock full of ripping guitars and driving rhythms. Mass have always been a tight sounding four-piece that have excelled in great songwriting and blinding musicianship. Although essentially a hard rock band Mass know how to hit the right notes with a ballad or two and they pour on the passion with ease. Astounding music…

Firecracker – BORN OF FIRE
Release: April 23, 2010

The band Firecracker started some years ago and is the brainchild of Stefan Lindholm (Vindictiv). Before Vindictiv was formed Stefan contacted keyboard maestro Pontus Larsson and they started to work on some of the songs he had laid down. With bass player Fredrik Folkare (Unleached) and Hasse Worzel on drums the band took shape. Vocalist Tommy Karevik from Seventh Wonder took care of the vocal duties and the basis of Firecracker came to a reality.

Musically the band is everything you would expect and more from Sweden. For all of you out there that have heard and fallen in love with Vindictiv (VINDICTIV ESM164 and GROUND ZERO ESM190) then this predecessor is essential listening. The guitar technique of Stefan Lindholm is as crisp and neat as ever, and he seems to effortlessly produce exciting riffs and melodies with nonchalance. His early years admiring and emulating the works of Malmsteen and Vai shine through but he does have a technique of his own that finds its way through. Keyboards play a vital role in the overall sound and there are plenty of these throughout, and when in harmony, form passages of pleasurable rock music. In addition to Pontus Larsson, keyboards are also supplied by classical player Henrik Mawe and his input of elongated keyboards makes this a stunning release and shows a difference to Vindictiv, a band who Stefan naturally progressed from Firecracker.

The CD BORN OF FIRE is an exciting look back to the earlier days of Stefan’s career, which is now developing into legendary status. It is a release that has an appealing raw edge to it, and it would have been a sin to pass by this fantastic recording. Firecracker is a great name for a band, certainly this one as they fit their moniker exactly.

-John 5 To Release New Solo Masterpiece

THE ART OF MALICE To Release May 11th On 60 Cycle Hum/Rocket Science Ventures

Featuring Ace Frehley’s Classic Track “Fractured Mirror” — A La J5

“John 5 is hands down one of the most mind blowing guitarists around.” – Slash

“John 5 is an underrated guitar GIANT.” – Steve Vai

HOLLYWOOD, CA — THE ART OF MALICE is John 5’s fifth album to date and will be released May 11th on 60 Cycle Hum/Rocket Science Ventures.

THE ART OF MALICE exhibits John 5’s incredible diversity as a writer and guitarist pulling from the pages of his life. “It is a completely different vibe than my other albums,” explains John 5. “The title is derived from the saying ‘kill then with kindness’ like taking a good approach to still obtain a dark result.”

The album also further showcases him to be one of the most technically advanced guitarists in the business today. Fans of driving rhythms and ear-catching, over the top, guitar work will keep this in their CD player for months on end. This album has everything that the fans come to expect, chicken pickin’, shred, metal and Spanish guitar. The song titles vary as vignettes into John 5’s life, such as the title “JW” which are John 5’s initials and what his father had called him growing up. “Ya Dig” comes from working with the master or front men David Lee Roth and also features Billy Sheehan on bass — “That is Dave’s saying and it fits the music.”

John 5 has created a worldwide following as a widely respected guitarist with such platinum artists as Marilyn Manson, David Lee Roth, and Rob Halford, and currently Rob Zombie. John 5 has taken his notoriety to the next level with his solo masterpieces that many guitar fans described as “the guitar playing of the new millennium.” John 5’s eclectic influences combine for a truly unique guitar oriented record that once again sets new standards in the genre.

Atrocity Featuring Yasmin — Studio Update!!!

Atrocity guitarist Thorsten Bauer comments on the recordings at Mastersound Studio of the new album featuring Yasmin: “Recording this album was an adventure and a lot of fun at the same time. To create a kind of ‘Ethno Metal’ sound, I used some pretty exotic lute and sitar tunings on the accoustic guitar in combination with the well-known heavy guitar power Atrocity usually stands for. These two different streams of guitar styles and sounds melt together in a pretty exciting way on the new album. In addition to that, 12-string guitars and flamenco finger-picked guitars give this new Atrocity record a handmade, unique and unheard sound and thrilling atmosphere. I am very satisfied with the outcome of this album, and I think it will be one of the most creative and colourful albums of our career so far.”

-Forbidden Issue Second Studio Report

The following are excerpts from the second studio report written by Craig Locicero, guitarist/songwriter of the reunited Bay Area thrashers Forbidden while the band was at Bombshelter Studios in downtown Los Angeles with owner Eric Kretz (drummer & founding member of Stone Temple Pilots):

March 4th – Three more songs in the bag! Once we finished that night, Gerardo [Martínez, Label Manager] from Nuclear Blast came out to meet us. We just talked about metal for about 4 hours. Seriously felt like I’ve known him for eons. It was very cool and I felt like we made a great decision! We also watched the documentary part of the Exodus DVD. F*cking-A if Gary and Tom are not on fire! The whole band is, but those two are my role models for this genre! Get ’em f*ckers!!! It’s funny, Gerardo was there all that time and we didn’t play him a thing. D*cks!

March 5th – This was the day we slayed the last two songs. The first one is the fastest Forbidden song I’ve ever played. Thought my arm was gonna go on strike! And I had the easy part, [drummer] Mark [Hernandez] was over the top, really great stuff in this one… called “Forsaken At The Gates.” A burner for sure! Brings back my “March Into Fire” [a track off the FORBIDDEN EVIL debut album] memories of how we used to do things, but much better. One last song in which [producer] Tim Narducci had Mark experiment with his snare turning it off and on all over the song. Sounded awesome!

[P]roducer/mix GOD Sean Beavan [Marilyn Manson/Nine Inch Nails]… invited us to come out to see him in Hollywood…

View more studio pictures and read the full studio report here.

Working titles on the new Forbidden album are as follows:

Immortal Wounds
Omega Wave
Adapt Or Die
Forsaken At The Gates
Inhuman Race
Beyond The Mask
Dragging My Casket

Forbidden are currently at Sonic Room Studios in Livermore, California tracking bass, guitar, and vocals. The as-yet-untitled album is being produced by Craig Locicero and Tim Narducci (Forbidden/Systematic/Spiral Arms).

The 2010 lineup for Forbidden is Russ Anderson on vocals; Craig Locicero, guitar; Steve Smyth, guitar; Matt Camacho on bass; and Mark Hernandez, drums.

Hear two new Forbidden demo tracks, “Adapt Or Die” and “Hopenosis,” on the band’s MySpace page.

-MVD Entertainment Group: YOU REALLY GOT ME — THE STORY OF THE KINKS Coming To DVD On May 18

Contains some of the Kinks’ finest moments and is full of rarely seen performances from the sixties right through to the nineties.

Voiceprint and MVD Visual are pleased to announce the release of YOU REALLY GOT ME — THE STORY OF THE KINKS for North American distribution on May 18.

This DVD contains some of the Kinks’ finest moments and is full of rarely seen performances from the sixties right through to the nineties and also contains comments from the various members of the band including Ray Davies, Dave Davies and Mick Avory.

Some of the performances featured here include “You Really Got Me,” “‘Til The End Of The Day,” “Waterloo Sunset,” “Days,” “Celluloid Heroes” and many more including the Dave Davies hit single “Death Of A Clown.” Footage comes from live concerts and television performances in America, the U.K., Germany and Japan.

Of all the British bands that broke through commercially in America who were part of the “British Invasion” of the sixties, one band stood head and shoulders above all the others as being quintessentially English… the Kinks.

Led by Ray Davies and his younger brother Dave Davies, the Kinks burst onto the music scene in 1964 with their ground breaking hit single “You Really Got Me.” This was the band’s third single and it reached number one in the U.K. singles chart and made the American top ten.

Along with the Davies brothers the band was made up of bassist Pete Quaife and drummer Mick Avory. Originally, like many other aspiring band of the early sixties they were an aspiring rhythm and blues band and their first two singles bear out this claim, although the second single “You Still Want Me” was the first Kinks single to be written by Ray Davies.

Once the band broke through with “You Really Got Me” they were off and running and further hit singles followed with “All Day And All Of The Night,” “Tired Of Waiting For You,” “Set Me Free” and “A Well Respected Man” (all of which were written by Ray Davies, as was the vast majority of the Kinks material) all doing well within the next twelve months. In fact the Kinks were considered one of the biggest bands of the period and Ray Davies, one of the eras more important and highly regarded song writers.

The band continued until mid 1996 and since that time has been inactive as a band with both Ray and Dave Davies releasing solo material. In 2004, Dave Davies suffered a stroke but since that time has made a slow but steady recovery. Ray Davies has also said he is keen to reunite the Kinks and rumours persist that this may happen in 2010.

-Soilwork Teams Up With Death Angel, Augury And Swashbuckle For North American Tour!

The Godfathers of Swedish modern metal Soilwork are pleased to announce that they will embark on a North American headlining tour this Summer with San Francisco Bay Area thrash legends Death Angel! Joining them will be Quebec’s tech-death masters Augury, Roadrunner Records recording artists Mutiny Within, and pirate themed thrashers Swashbuckle.

Soilwork vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid commented: “We are stoked to tour with the most vicious thrashers from the west, famous for their gin drinking and intense live shows. Death Angel is a classic band that we’ve wanted to tour with for a long time. A perfect fit for the bill and surely an awesome touring companion. The summer of mosh is upon us. Don’t miss out!”

Death Angel front man Mark Osegueda added: “I can’t begin to tell you how excited we are about the upcoming tour! I first heard Soilwork on a Nuclear Blast promo compilation and they stood out from the first listen. The riffs, the drumming, and Bjorn’s vocal attack! Then we were fortunate enough to play with them at With Full Force Festival a few years back and they killed it live!

“As fate would have it, I was asked to participate in a Nuclear Blast 20 Year Anniversary compilation album called OUT OF THE DARK, which Peter Wichers wrote the music for. I wrote the lyrics and melody for a song on that compilation called ‘My Name Is Fate!’ Peter actually was also the producer, so I was fortunate enough to get to work with him in the studio! What a brilliant guy and and a great musician and now that he is back in the fold Soilwork is back on top of their game. I think the musical styles and live performances of both bands will make every show on this tour a show not to be missed by any true fan of HEAVY music! So don’t just hear about the aftermath, experience it for yourself!”

Augury lead singer/guitar player Patrick Loisel: “We are very proud to be part of such a great tour with Soilwork, perform alongside legends such as Death Angel (a band whom I covered in my old bands), and join our brothers in Swashbuckle again. It’s quite a thrill!”

Soilwork and Death Angel have now added a special event VIP ticket for a pre-show meet-and-greet to take place one hour before doors. Each night, fans will get to meet and greet Soilwork and Death Angel for a special event that is being offered. Fans will also receive a customized poster to get signed by both bands. Band: Eyes Of Isis
Album Title: HOT AS HELL
Genre: Rock
Release Date: Out Now

Eyes Of Isis represents the passion and commitment of four teenagers trying to succeed where so many have failed. Among energetic live performances, mass local promoting, media broadcasts and radio play the teen foursome gave a fresh new taste of rock and roll in their hometown Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Accompanied with catchy riffs, memorable hooks and a well-built following there is no limit to the ambitions these boys encompass to reach the top.

“Eyes Of Isis’ CD release concert was a sold out success!” – Richard Amery LA Beat Magazine

After only two months of writing the teens recorded their first eight-song demo which has been distributed across the online market. Nine months into writing the quartet has 20+ songs written. “Self managing is paying off but we need the assistance of a record label and a great manager to give the band the recognition we need to reach the pinnacle of success in this industry,” says Jordan Davidson vocals/rhythm guitar. Eyes Of Isis spent January 2010 in studio recording the latest handpicked four-song demo HOT AS HELL to grab the attention of record labels, promoters and management all over the world.

The band is comprised of Jordan Davidson, the oldest at only 17, who does lead vocals and guitar and lead guitarist Chase Rennie, 16, who have only been together since the spring of 2009. Seven months into the making and the group has now been completed by bassist and harmonic vocalist Joey Emerson, 16, and drummer and backing vocalist Aaron Folkerson, 15.

“While Davidson and Rennie are hoping to receive record label recognition right now they are just thankful to have the opportunity to record an album,” said Kayla Carr CTV News Canada. With the support of CTV, Global News and nearly all forms of media in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Eyes Of Isis has reached out to a large regional basis. Eyes Of Isis’ skill and sound are both way beyond yet way behind their years. With a musical style varying from classic and hard rock to soft and pop rock they have also captivating ballads. “Our goal as a band is to write musical style that any listener can enjoy,” said lead guitarist Chase Rennie.

Born out of Chicago, IL in Fall of 2007, Vonassi began their first E.P. project as a musical experiment and exploration of their writing talents. Band: Steve Cichon
Label: Nightmare Records
Genre: Progressive Fusion
Release Date: Out Now
UPC: 79856437923
Catalog #: None
Release Date: March 23

Steve Cichon’s third album hits the streets, although you may not recognize his name yet… known also for his work with Vicious Circle (the original one). Steve isn’t singing on this one, rather sticking to his God given talent of guitar. Steve has a gift for blending wonderful melody and composition together into a beautiful soundscape as well as showing off his technical skills without overshadowing the music. Steve blends many textures and tones of guitar, metal, hard rock, classical, Spanish acoustic, guitar synth, jazz, new age, along with varying guitar styles meshed together into each song surprisingly smoothly and all with his own sense of musicality basted in a heavy edge that urges the listener to raise his fists evoking the live arena concert experience.

Remember the wonderful music from the ’70s heavy rock and progressive movements, Steve manages to capture the essence of this “Real” and “Uncommercial” musical liberation of no boundaries with this collection of ten tracks he offers us on CRANIAL FEEDBACK. This album is truly a musical mind journey to take you through your own great depths.

Steve said this about the album’s creation… “I wanted to create a soundscape of the perfect live show, when I began writing the album, I visualized myself on a large world stage outdoors and in my mind the music wrote itself, flowing out of me so freely, I felt I had to include all of the aspects that I heard in this visualization to have the listener really understand and feel of what I experienced during the creation process.”

Steve’s songs have received praise from representatives of major recording label, to name a few: John Kalodner (Geffer); Charles Koppleman (EMI); Jimmy Lenner (Virgin); Aziz Goksel (Atlantic); Aaron Jacoves (Taxi) and Gene Simmons (Kiss).

Track listing:
1. Richochet

Band: Mad Lee Riot
Genre: Alternative/Rock
Release Date: July 16, 2009

One minute heading towards punk, and then in the next, forced back to some kind of soul-searching stoner landscape. Escaping into unknown territories (see album title TERRA IN COGNITO), getting into trouble — but always for the good of the song. Ctrl-Alt-Del-Rock at its best!

2007, Mad Lee Riot self-released the E.P., HARD COVER (Liquorpond St. Prod.). The E.P. surprised everyone as highest newcomer entering the Swedish Charts (pos. 26th Svenska Singellistan).

2009, Mad Lee Riot, with the little help from record company Sound Pollution/Bonnier the debut album TERRA IN COGNITO was released in EU. The reviews have been good (see below) and this has resulted in that the band is currently in the studio preparing for a follow-up. Both albums can be heard on Spotify.

2010, Mad Lee Riot is in the first phase in making a new album. An American producer is involved and will be flown in for the recording. Philip, the new talented guitarist, has now a steady position in the band and a tour in April is rapidly taking form. Mad Lee Riot has already played Sweden’s largest rock festival (Sweden Rock Festival, 2008) as well as the quite legendary Debaser in Stockholm the same year.

Sounds like Growing up in the bloom of both the alternative-era and MTV, it is safe to say Mad Lee Riot has listened to band such as Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and Queens Of The Stone Age, but in sneaks all kinds of influences where the motto of the band is to never repeat itself. Visit the homepage and peak through the videos to songs “The Gorilla” and “The Fall” to get the feel for it; or tune in on Spotify and find a odd version of hit single “Toxic” (from you know whom).

Excerpts of reviews:

“…It’s rather difficult to place Mad Lee Riot into one specific genre, but one gets the feeling that grunge rock lies closest to their hearts. But there are also other influences to be heard if you put your mind to it; the epic opener ‘The Fall’ has shades of Coldplay to it, while ‘No Reply’ displays harder and crunchier riffs. In terms of songs ‘The Fall’ plays in a league of its own, but there is good energy throughout the show, which also is sparkled with a couple of intriguing keyboard interludes…”
Review: Niklas Lundqvist http://www.metalcovenant.com

“…For pure alternative rock, Mad Lee Riot’s TERRA IN COGNITO is an inventive, often muscular, sometimes uneven adventure, which fans will find clever and enjoyable. Recommended for fans of all things indie and alternative…”
Review: Craig Hartranft http://www.dangerdog.com

“High energy indie rock that even includes a great cover of ‘Toxic,’ made famous by a certain American blonde…”
MH – Classic Rock Society magazine

Mad Lee Riot is:
Robin – Vocals, guitar
Per – Bass, vocals
Philip – Guitar, vocals
Surprise – Drums

Track listing:
1. The Fall
2. The Gorilla
3. Terra In Cognito
4. Why Do You Howl?
5. Toxic
6. All The More
7. Acedia
8. Nine To 5

-Candlelight Records: Late Springtime Releases And Upcoming Tours

Candlelight Records today confirms the label’s springtime releases including new albums from Blaze Bayley and October File. The albums follow the label’s recent successes with Fear Factory, Ihsahn — both Billboard chart entries — and The Breathing Process. The label also confirms touring activities for Fear Factory, Havok and more.

England’s October File returns with the release of their second full length album. With hopes to expand their American profile, OUR SOULS TO YOU features eleven new songs. Dark, aggressive, and angular, the band spent the better part of a year laboring over the album’s material. Bassist Steve Beatty notes, “we spent a year writing and rehearsing, taking our time and arguing intensely. We feel it’s been worth it.” OUR SOULS TO YOU includes a bonus disc featuring production work by Justin Broadrick (Godflesh). Metal Hammer says October File “burns with all the fiery, punk-spirited menace of Black Flag and the fervent apocalyptic brimstone of Killing Joke, but with a sound that’s all their own.” October File has toured Europe with Killing Joke, Prong and most recently completed dates with Fear Factory. Confirmed track listing for OUR SOULS TO YOU is:

1. Crawl
2. Corporate Evasion
3. Falter
4. Dredge
5. Eau Du War
6. Our Souls To You (Part I)
7. A Public Display Of Anger
8. Isolation
9. September
10. Love Is (A Warm AK47)
11. Our Souls To You (Part II)

PROMISE AND TERROR finds the return of Blaze Bayley, the cherished former vocalist for Iron Maiden (replacing Bruce Dickinson in the late ’90s). It is a dark and emotional album that has already found much acclaim via its recent European release. For American fans this is the first album featuring a renewed, international lineup and contains eleven new songs, several with heart-felt lyrics dedicated to the unfortunate loss of the singer’s wife in 2008. Metal Hammer says, “Blaze is on fire again,” while popular metal review site MetalReview.com calls, “Blaze Bayley is one of the most dedicated, war-torn heavy metal warriors roaming the planet.” The band is currently amidst European tour dates and are looking to visit the U.S. late summer. Confirmed track listing for PROMISE AND TERROR is:

1. Watching The Night
2. Madness And Sorrow
3. 1633
4. God Of Speed
5. City Of Bones
6. Faceless
7. Time To Dare
8. Surrounded By Sadness
9. The Trace Of Things That Have No Words
10. Letting Go Of The World
11. Comfortable In Darkness

Touring will be intense for the label this spring with Fear Factory kicking off American dates today. The shows, in support of their latest album MECHANIZE, run through April 11 and includes the band’s anticipated performance at Revolver Magazine’s Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles on April 8. The band will be announcing more American and Canadian dates; additional details to follow.

Colorado-based thrashers Havok align with HammerFall and Echoes Of Eternity for a run of dates beginning March 28 in San Diego. The band will then join Primal Fear for dates in May. The performances continue to support the band’s 2009 debut, BURN. Los Angeles metal magazine Keeper says, “Havok really grabs the intensity, power and in-your-face attitude that only a rare few have. Burn is a true must have for any fan of great thrash metal.”

The Breathing Process and The Atlas Moth, recently completing a run of dates including several at the South-By-Southwest Music Conference, are expected to announce dates shortly.

-IDW Publishing Launches Eternal Descent Forum And Video

Gothic comic book series featuring metal bands hits stores March 31st, 2010

LONDON, UK — IDW Publishing has launched a forum on their company Web site featuring the “Eternal Descent” gothic comic book series created by guitarist Llexi Leon. IDW is the home of comics like “30 Days Of Night,” “Star Trek,” “Transformers,” “G.I. Joe,” and many more. The first “Eternal Descent” issue hits retailers’ shelves March 31st, 2010. The comic book series features iconic metal guitarists as comic book characters. The IDW forum is posted at http://forum.idwpublishing.com/viewforum.php?f=22 and features discussion about the comic book, guitarists and polls moderated by Llexi Leon himself.

“Eternal Descent” comic book issue one kicks off the series by introducing Leon’s original characters and sets the stage for their epic battle. Metal bands God Forbid, Atreyu, Firewind, Static X, Children Of Bodom, among others, will appear in Issue two and onward, with corresponding interviews included in each comic.

In addition, video footage featuring IDW’s Justin Eisinger interviewing “Eternal Descent’s” Llexi Leon is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr7R3GyY4Tg . The footage was filmed at the 2010 NAMM Convention in Anaheim, CA this past January and contains highlights about the comic book’s concept with shots of new products featuring “Eternal Descent” art.

Leon began making noise in London, England in 2005. His highly intricate guitar style exhibits the many influences corralled to create his intense sound — from classical, flamenco, electronica, and ambient genres to the more prominent genres of rock and metal. All of these genres infused to one, Leon has built a cinematic metal fantasia with his music, which has branched out to a comic book series. His main aspirations are bringing stories to life through escapism.

Leon utilizes everyday events and his vivid imagination to drive him to create more avenues for his multimedia enterprise. To prove its tangibility, Leon, who is responsible for the basic concept artwork, storyboards, and character design/creation, has assembled a team of artists through Space Goat Productions, including:

~ Jason Metcalf on pencils and inks, and a driving force behind detailing the “Eternal Descent” world, who previously worked on “The Darkness” and “Magdelina.”

~ David Rivera will begin inking over Jason’s pencils from issue two and beyond, while Javier Tartaglia and Joel Chua, both veterans of many Marvel and DC comics titles, provide stunning colors.

Leon also began his own production company, Incendium Records, to release his first concept album LOSING FAITH and the E.P. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. This fulfilled Leon’s dream of having all Eternal Descent media developed with the highest standards under one roof. Leon recently began recording his third CD release with producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Kiss) at the helm.

Presales for the comic book are now available. To find a comic shop near you, call 1-888-comicbook or visit http://www.comicshoplocator.com/ .

In celebration of the tour’s launch, Sirius/XM Radio kicked off a promotion that will award one lucky fan in each market a pair of tickets to the show and enter the winner into a lottery. Two winners will be selected at random from all entrees on April 12 to win one of the limited edition European MECHANIZE “tool boxes” (strictly limited to 1,500 and includes a Fear Factory pencil, hammer, two screwdrivers, tongs, yardstick, measuring tape, patch, a small poster, sticker, a certificate and the new album in digi-pak format).

Decibel Magazine, who featured Fear Factory on the cover of their March issue, are hosting a special “Making Of Fear Campaign” documentary that premieres today at the magazine’s YouTube channel ( http://www.decibelmagazine.com/Content.aspx?ncid=362771 ). Compiled by Christopher O’Coin, the behind the scenes footage offers candid, on-location interviews with members of the band, directors Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci, and still photographer Heather McGrath among others. Director Ian McFarland comments, “making the video for Fear Factory’s ‘Fear Campaign’ was definitely a very large undertaking. But when we sit back and watch the final piece, it’s a lot of fun to see the hard work of two separate crews working on opposite sides of the country pull it off together.”

“Fear Campaign” was filmed on location in Los Angeles with post-production completed in Boston. For the video team it was a smooth process that required hours of intense commitment. Mike Pecci notes, “shooting in Los Angeles was surprisingly easy largely due to our co-producer Ryan Kohler from Revv Pictures. Everything seemed to move like clockwork with him. This was our first time shooting with professionally trained animals and honestly, those dogs (Bullet and Brownie) were better trained than most actors! They were absolutely amazing to work with.”

In addition to live filming, “Fear Campaign” features a photographic montage all courtesy of Boston-based photographer Heather McGrath. Pecci recalls, “when Burton first approached us with the idea to a montage video we really wanted to come up with a new look that separated it from the political ones of the ’90s. We love those old videos, but felt that a video that represented the return of Fear Factory needed to be something new, fresh, and in your face.” Continues McFarland, “we eventually came up with the idea of shooting part of Burton’s performance as photographs and animating them in a ‘flip book’ technique that would help with the transition into the montages throughout the video. This idea, however, required us to take over 28,000 photos over a very short amount of time. We were literally shooting right up to the last minute.”

Tickets for all Fear Factory shows are on sale now through all major ticket agencies and individual venue ticket box offices. Fear Factory recently announced two special VIP ticket packages now on sale exclusively via http://www.artistarena.com/ . -Lair Of The Minotaur Gory Video Premiere Details; Tour Update

One week from today — on Thursday, April 1st — the new Lair Of The Minotaur video will be unleashed via a special premiere on Decibel Magazine’s “Deciblog.” The video is for “Evil Power,” the title track to the band’s menacing upcoming fourth full-length release.

Directed by Ryan Oliver of cult horror cinema company Deathblow Productions, the video features more blood, gore, violence and nudity in under three-and-a-half minutes than some full-length slasher films, and shall prove to be one of the most cruel videos in the history of heavy metal. Watch innocent virgins being offered up to the massive minotaur for sacrifice. Reel in horror during the evisceration and dismemberment of these beauties while your head bangs uncontrollably to LOTM’s thunderous soundtrack.

Stop by the Deciblog on April Fool’s Day to witness the carnage!!!

Set for release April 13th on the band’s own The Grind-House Records, EVIL POWER was recorded by Sanford Parker in the band’s Chicago stomping grounds. Comprised of Centurions Steve Rathbone (vocals/bass), Chris Wozniak (drums) and introducing new bassist Nate Olp (Demiricous), LOTM’s patented Greek mythology-inspired brutality continues on EVIL POWER, laying all in its path to waste with a stripped-down approach as heavy as the Kraken, while showing off the LOTM’s punk and crossover influences.

EVIL POWER will be in stores and available via digital download on iTunes, Amazon MP3, eMusic, Lala, Shockhound, Napster, Zune, Rhapsody, LimeWire, IMVU and MySpace Music on April 13, 2010, and the CD will also be available direct from the band/label Thursday, April 1st, in conjunction with the video premiere. The record will be distributed by Southern Lord Records, who have released the band’s previous three albums on CD and vinyl, two E.P.s and DVD.

The first leg tour promoting the release will kick off the week of the album’s release as well, with plenty more to be announced throughout the year.

Lair Of The Minotaur Evil Power Spring Tour:
4/16/2010 Melody Inn – Indianapolis, IN w/ Coffinworm
4/17/2010 Peabody’s – Cleveland, OH w/ Solopsist
4/18/2010 Sonar – Baltimore, MD w/ Revolta, Wolfnuke
4/19/2010 M Room – Philadelphia, PA w/ Ludicra, Tombs, Krallice
4/21/2010 The Charleston – Brooklyn, NY w/ The Binary Code, Elks
4/22/2010 Velvet Lounge – Washington DC w/ Ol Scratch, Admiral Browning
4/23/2010 Broadway Joe’s – Buffalo, NY w/ Cattle Decapitation, Gaza
4/24/2010 The Summit – Columbus, OH w/ Fools Crown

“So primitive is EVIL POWER, in fact, that it’s like moving from a Bronze Age sword to a straightforward mace, and it just might wind up being the band’s masterstroke.” – Decibel Magazine

“It’s good to see a band of their stature looking to expand their audience the old fashioned way — by starting up their own label and putting out a solid as f*ck record.” – Stonerrock.com

“Their sound is still based on some of the most pummeling metal the U.S. has ever produced, but several of their tracks show an affinity for hard rock riffing that reminds of Entombed…” – The Obelisk

“Celebrating bloody violence in ways your average video game designer would never dare, Lair Of The Minotaur is arguably the ultimate catharsis for the vengeful misfit in all of us.” – Sleazegrinder

-A Storm Of Light Seek Permanent Drummer

In a message from Brooklyn atmospheric doomsters A Storm Of Light:

In just over two years since the band’s inception, A Storm Of Light has had the honor and privilege of playing with many great drummers: Vinny Signorelli, Jason Roeder, Pete Angevine, etc. While this band is built around revolving members both in touring and recording, we’ve decided that a central three-piece will make us sonically/rhythmically stronger. That said, we have decided to look for a permanent drummer, one that can make Storm their primary focus, and be part of the band for the long haul.

When: ASAP. We will be recording in early fall and going to Europe from September 28 – Nov 1.

Where: Ideally we want someone in Brooklyn/N.Y.C., or damn close. While we are willing to consider people outside of the area (New Jersey/Philadelphia/Upstate NY/Providence/Boston/DC, etc). Please keep in mind that we are constantly writing, recording, practicing, touring, so you will have to been in Brooklyn very regularly.

Experience: We are preferably looking for people with previous recording/touring experience, and who can tour regularly both nationally and internationally. (nice, fun, dedicated, motivated, relaxed, on time, honest, etc., etc., etc.)

Contact: Please include links to your drumming/musical projects, and email us at: storm [at] astormoflight [dot] com. Thank you. — A Storm Of Light

DragonForce, the famous high speed power metallers, are reissuing their 2003 album VALLEY OF THE DAMNED. This album has been completely re-mixed and re-mastered, a definite treat for fans. This reissue also contains a previously unreleased track, “Where Dragons Rule.” To round out the package, there is new DVD that features footage of behind-the-scenes moments and video from live performances. DragonForce has made quite a name for themselves in the metal community. They’re fast and furious and the songs revolve around journeys, heroes, villains, epic battles, mythological royalty and the like. They conjure up vivid scenes of a fantasy world. This is DragonForce. They fit the power metal mold with clean, high pitched vocals and exuding an overall upbeat, spirited vibe. This reissue, like all reissues, is really just a treat for the dedicated fans. DragonForce has some wickedly awesome musical talent, but there comes a point where you get tired of the same vocals and lyrics invariably telling tales of castles and magic and the hackneyed duel of good vs. evil. If you’re already not into DragonForce, don’t bother with this. Personally, I recommend DragonForce in small dosages: a song or two played every now and then, just for those insane guitar solos. That’s as much as you need. Along with reissuing VALLEY OF THE DAMNED, DragonForce simultaneously reissued their 2004 album, SONIC FIRESTORM. Contrary to VALLEY OF THE DAMNED, SONIC FIRESTORM was not re-mixed or re-mastered at all. In lieu of that, the reissue comes in new packaging and also features the bonus song, “Cry Of The Brave.” There’s also a DVD showcasing footage from a live show from Japan, interviews, commentaries and more. As with previous DragonForce albums, SONIC FIRESTORM follows suit with lyrical content fixating on chimerical, mystical, and battle-ridden themes. One thing that stood out to me was the piano piece opener in “A Dawn Over A New World,” which was well executed and set the tone for a slower, softer, elegant song. “Cry Of The Brave,” didn’t really impress me. It was right on par with any other song from SONIC FIRESTORM. “Once In A Lifetime” opens extremely fast, pummeling you with riffs so fast you barely know what hits you, then suddenly it slows, but only slightly and the vocals set in. Overall, DragonForce is a highly skilled band and they know how to show it off. The thing that is disappointing in the repetitive nature of the songs, both lyrically and instrumentally. I always seem to know what to expect from them, and after a while, that gets boring. This reissue is a must for fans. For everyone else, consider buying just a track or two from iTunes and you’ll be set.

This is the first CD I had ever bought from High On Fire, and I am not disappointed I picked it up. Word has been buzzing about this band recently, and I thought it was worth a listen. The first thing that attracted me was the artwork — it is a menacing looking woman, wrapped in snakes, very cool. Also the killer name of the album, is also the first song: “Snakes For The Divine.” This song starts with lead guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike playing a short lead that is reminiscent of AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” but later gets in the murky and heavy riffing that is stoner metal. It is definitely my favorite song on the album. But then the song “Frost Hammer” begins right after, which is a heavy assault on the ears with many power chords with some string chugging added in. “Bastard Samurai” isn’t really memorable vocally or instrumentally. “Ghost Neck” starts off fast and heavy, with Pike playing a killer solo midway through the song. “The Path” is an instrumental piece, which shows Pike’s real diversity as a guitar player, playing some pretty cool riffs from his 9-string guitar. “How Dark We Party” is another amazing song, with an amazing intro in which Pike plays an awesome lead solo. The rest of the songs are good, but these are the best; personally the other songs didn’t stand out to me as much as the first five did (with the exception of “How Dark We Party”), but that is something you can decide for yourself. Overall, this album is very good, has some brutal vocals, heavy riffing, and some diverse guitar parts incorporated, definitely worth buying.
