-A Razorsharp Metal Classic Gets Its Due!

Judas Priest’s BRITISH STEEL Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The album that introduced “Breaking The Law” and “Living After Midnight”

Judas Priest – Winners of the 2010 Grammy Award for “Best Metal Performance”

• CD features 2001 re-master of original 9-song album with two bonus tracks
• DVD features live 16-song set from the 2009 tour (the album sequence plus seven more tunes) plus new “Making Of BRITISH STEEL” interview

Available at both physical and digital retail outlets starting May 11, 2010

In the summer and fall of 2009, while on tour throughout North America and Japan, Judas Priest celebrated the 30th anniversary of the album BRITISH STEEL at each of their concert stops. Each night featured a complete performance of their breakthrough album — source of “Breaking The Law,” “Living After Midnight,” “Metal Gods,” “Grinder,” and more. Released in April 1980, BRITISH STEEL became Priest’s first RIAA platinum Top 40 album in the U.S., their first Top 10 studio album in the U.K.

Judas Priest is comprised of lead vocalist Rob Halford, dueling lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, bassist Ian Hill, and (since 1989) drummer Scott Travis.

Now BRITISH STEEL’s 30th anniversary moment officially arrives, commemorating one of the most influential albums in heavy metal, a record that fellow musicians and disciples credit for unleashing metal from its blues origins. BRITISH STEEL: LEGACY EDITION will be available through standard retail and digital outlets starting May 11, 2010, on Columbia/Legacy, a division of Sony Music Entertainment.

BRITISH STEEL: LEGACY EDITION features the 2001 re-master of the original 36-minute, nine-song album (plus two bonus tracks). Also included is a DVD which combines a live 16-song concert filmed in August 2009 at the Seminole Hard Rock Arena in Hollywood, Florida (the album sequence plus seven more cuts), with a 30-minute “Making Of BRITISH STEEL” interview that includes all four original band members.

There is no overstating Judas Priest’s position at the very top of heavy metal’s Mount Olympus, and the critical importance of their deep album catalog on Columbia Records in the U.S., from 1977’s SIN AFTER SIN to 1990’s PAINKILLER. In 2004, Halford reunited with Judas Priest and the band returned to Sony Music Entertainment. The appropriately leather-bound and metal-spiked five-disc retrospective boxed set METALOGY was followed in 2005 by ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION (#13 on the Billboard 200 albums chart) and in 2008 by NOSTRADAMUS (#11).

In 2009, A TOUCH OF EVIL: LIVE recapped Judas Priest’s world tours of the previous four years. One of its tracks, “Dissident Aggressor” earned Judas Priest their first Grammy Award this year, for Best Metal Performance.

Indeed, Judas Priest is celebrated as progenitors of metal’s defining sound. The upgraded version of “Behind The Music – Judas Priest (Re-Mastered)” continues in circulation on VH1, and the band’s influence spreads far beyond the 30 million albums, singles and videos they have sold worldwide in their career.

The long-term association (eight consecutive live and studio albums) between Judas Priest and producer Tom Allom includes this classic, their second LP together. It was recorded in four weeks at Tittenhurst Park, previously owned by John Lennon, and the home of Ringo Starr at the time. Radio airplay on AOR (album-oriented rock) stations for “Living After Midnight” and “Breaking The Law” (with its early promo video clip by Julien Temple) propelled the LP to #34 in Billboard and an 18-week stay on the chart.

When the Judas Priest album catalog on Columbia was restored for the first time starting in 2001, the band members offered their own recollections (in lieu of a liner notes essay) on each individual CD. They recalled the clanging sounds of “trays of cutlery” and “billiard cues” heard in “Metal Gods,” which became a concert favorite along with “The Rage.” Of the bonus tracks, “Grinder” is a live version recorded in 1984; and “Red, White & Blue,” written as a sing-along for the TURBO album sessions in 1985, never quite made the cut. “A little tongue in cheek,” the 2001 notes declared, “it is also very patriotic and may bring a tear to your eye!”

When BRITISH STEEL was issued in 1980, a Columbia Records promotion involved a giveaway contest for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle (signed by the band members) that Rob had taken to riding onstage at shows each night. Three decades later, the 2009 tour resurrected the contest with another ‘autographed’ Harley.

The BRITISH STEEL 2009 Live Tour

As planned, Judas Priest hit the stage running every night of their summer tour, crashing into “Rapid Fire,” the opening track of BRITISH STEEL, and reclaiming the other eight songs on the record in grand style. Of course, the concerts did not end there. The band tore through another program-length of songs from the four corners of their history, starting with “The Ripper,” from their first Columbia LP, 1977’s SIN AFTER SIN.

“Prophecy” dated from their most recent studio album of 2008, NOSTRADAMUS; “Hell Patrol” was from the Columbia album of 1990, PAINKILLER; “Victim Of Changes” is one of the staples from their 1976 album SAD WINGS OF DESTINY; “Freewheel Burning” was one of the stellar tracks (along with “Some Heads Are Gonna Roll”) that sent their 1984 album DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH to RIAA platinum; “Diamonds & Rust” is their jaw-dropping treatment of a Joan Baez song from SIN AFTER SIN; and the show closed with “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming,” Judas Priest’s singular appearance on the Billboard Hot 100, from 1982’s SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE.

Tom Allom and Judas Priest were reunited again (having worked together not so long ago on the audio for the DVD RISING IN THE EAST) for the live recordings that comprised 2009’s A TOUCH OF EVIL. Allom is responsible for the stereo and 5.1 SurroundSound mixes of the live recording from the Seminole Hard Rock Arena concert that appears in this Legacy Edition. The DVD will include bonus content as well, “The Making Of BRITISH STEEL,” a 30-minute interview featuring the four original band members.

-Frontiers Records To Release The New Extreme Live DVD And CD

TAKE US ALIVE Will Be Released April 23rd In Europe & May 4th In The U.S.A.

NAPOLI — Extreme is releasing their TAKE US ALIVE live CD and DVD on Frontiers Records worldwide April 23rd in Europe & May 4th in the U.S.A. In 2008, following a 13 year hiatus, the band returned to the stage for their “Take Us Alive” world tour, which encompassed 75 cities and multiple continents in support of their new and groundbreaking record, SAUDADES DE ROCK.

This recording captures Extreme at the peak of their game with a renewed enthusiasm led by Gary Cherone’s spellbinding stage performance and powerful vocals, Nuno Bettencourt’s ferocious guitar, Pat Badger’s flawless bass and Kevin Figueiredo’s pounding drums not to mention the Extreme trademark, spot on, back up vocals.

This brilliant performance was recorded on the last night of their tour at the House Of Blues August 8, 2009 in Extreme’s hometown of Boston, MA. “We wanted to do something really special for our hometown fans that were there for us since the beginning… the club days,” states Nuno. “It was the last night of the tour and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by bringing it back to where it all started… Boston.”

The concert showcases material from all five Extreme albums and exhibits the band’s broad stylistic abilities. Features include a blistering rendition of the Zeppelin-minded “Comfortably Dumb,” the scorching “Play With Me,” the funked-up “Cupid’s Dead” as well as the anthemic “Get The Funk Out.” Songs like their #1 hit “More Than Words” and the top 5 “Hole Hearted” highlight the crowd’s enthusiasm and loyal support their fan base has had for this beloved foursome. “As much as we enjoy recording, for me, I’ve always loved playing live for the fans,” Cherone says. “We couldn’t wait to get out there and play for our fans.”

The DVD will contain four unreleased bonus videos from their latest record SAUDADES DE ROCK. Videos include the songs “King Of The Ladies,” “Interface,” “Run” and “Ghost.” The videos were produced by Nuno Bettencourt. “This DVD/CD is a culmination of all the years we played together and the chemistry the four of us put out live,” explains Bettencourt.

About Extreme:

To date, the Grammy-nominated Extreme have released five albums, plus a greatest hits set — selling over 10 million records worldwide. They also achieved a #1 hit single, “More Than Words” — from their 1990 multi-platinum album Extreme II: PORNOGRAFFITTI — on the Billboard Hot 100, which they followed with the Top Five “Hole Hearted.” Although these two acoustic hits brought the band great mainstream success, the band’s trademark sound has always been more a mix of hard rock funk — fueled by guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt’s signature style, Gary Cherone’s resonant vocals and socially conscious lyrics, Pat Badger’s rock solid bass, and the hard hitting Kevin Figueiredo on drums.

-Warrant Update

In The Studio

“I realize we haven’t been around much lately (that’s subject to physical location by the way, because if you were near any one of us… we would in fact, actually be around each other). We’ve been holed up in the studio working out the finer points of a brand spankin’ new Warrant album… HOW EXCITING!!! We are all really amped up (pun intended) to get the new tracks etched in stone, or on tape, or on hard drive as it is these days and out to all of your ears! No concrete release date at the moment, but word on the street is (actually, word between the five of us… mostly in our homes, not so much on the streets) we’re looking forward to an early to mid-summer release… I guess it’s safe to say.

“I am using a little bit of extra discretion by NOT leaking too much info just yet… some nasty people still like to steal, even though they know it’s just not right, and I’d hate to have to rewrite this whole thing in the off chance that some of the song titles, concepts, even the album title be stolen right out from under our very eyes should the evil-doers take a stab at breaking the eighth commandment. I will tell you that the band name is Warrant and what we are hoping is that this album will further solidify the sound of this band as being one that is consistently awesome! Okay that may sound a bit trite and grandiose but I’d like to believe it’s also true. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, (although infinite tread, titanium lined tubeless tires would be nice) our hopes are that we will satisfy the cravings of every rock fan that has ever heard a Warrant album and wished they were longer. Consider the new Warrant sound as merely an extension of what we’ve done to date with a little more seasoning behind it. Stylistically the new tracks are perhaps a bit more diverse than on previous releases. Of course there’s the killer ballad (do those two words really belong together?) or two, the up-tempo slam it out until you pass out rockers, and some stuff that harkens back to our ’70s roots, you’ll know it when you hear it and it will definitely satisfy! With Pat Regan skillfully helming the board (You should see him, he actually does ‘helm’ when he mixes) as he did on BORN AGAIN the sound is pure Warrant and then some — thanks to the boy with the golden pipes, Robert Mason.

“We’ll be sure to keep you updated as things progress, and keep checking in for new dates as they come in — we look forward to seeing you all this summer, wherever you are — and hopefully we’ll be there too, or else you can come to us depending on how far a drive it is. Scratch that just show up and we’ll have a great summer together!”

-Lion Music New Release Info

Genre – Vocal / Melodic Metal

Promo page with streaming mp3 at: http://www.lionmusic.com/cd/roomsofrevelation.htm

Released April 17 2010

Dreyelands are a melodic progressive metal band from Hungary. Their debut album ROOMS OF REVELATION showcases the band’s versatile attitude for music being a tasty mixture of the metallic and the melodic side of progressive and power metal, combined with a touch of ’80s AOR/hard rock music.

The songs are powered by heavy guitar riffs fused with ultra melodic, memorable vocal themes along with clever arrangements. Sonically the album is big, modern and natural with no triggers on the drums and live string arrangements. etc. The first half of the album has the lighter songs and as the listener gets nearer to the end they are increasingly heavier and darker.

Lyrically ROOMS OF REVELATION depicts a journey in a schizophrenic mind. The story is about a man that is losing all his loves and at the end, his life as well. Our protagonist has a cruel fate: every woman, he is conceiving passion for, are disappearing after the first fulfilment of their love. Haunted by the pain of loss, he begins a journey in an imaginary house, where he finds more and more clues about what happened to his subjects of love. It turns out that all his loves were killed.

Progressing with the story, we will realize that the killer is the dark side of his split personality, brought to life by the protagonist itself. Being always afraid that the first heavenly flames are dying out, this killer is his remedy for the fear of what will come after the first fulfilment of love. As the journey continues, the killer is coming more and more to the fore, to make the decision to die together in the last song.

After forming in 2003 Dreyelands recorded their first release, a promotional E.P. titled CAN’T HIDE AWAY (released in 2007). There was also a music video made for the title song of the E.P. This video was featured several times on the “Headbanger’s Ball” program of MTV Hungary with the E.P. receiving great feedback from not only Hungarian but also international press.

During 2007 the band finished the song writing for the debut album ROOMS OF REVELATION which was recorded in several studios in Hungary and Serbia in 2008 and mixed/mastered by well known Hungarian producer / engineer Barnabás Hidasi at HL-Studio in 2009. After the recordings keyboardist Zoltán Kas left the band. For future promotion work and live gigs the band is completed by György Nagy (Age Of Nemesis) as a session member.

After hearing the band Lion Music was blown away with the quality of material on offer and a deal was finalised in September 2009.

Dreyelands serve up a fresh yet classic sound in the melodic progressive metal genre and ROOMS OF REVELATION opens its doors to the public on April 17 2010.

Genre – Vocal / Prog / Metal

Released April 17 2010

EYEWITNESS OF LIFE is the debut album from a new act from Finland — enter Grönholm led by guitarist and song writer Mika Grönholm. The music of EYEWITNESS OF LIFE is built with an appreciation for a number of metal genres yet there is a common theme of progressive orientated riffs throughout the album, however EYEWITNESS OF LIFE avoids the monster shredding the genre is renowned for resulting in a more focused compact album for those that like strong songs first and foremost.

Nuances of artists such as Queensrÿche and Rush can be heard here and there, but the song is of main concern for Grönholm who also adds a few shades of other cultural sounds from Indian and Spanish music along with some jazz inspired progressions to add a little spice, yet the overall feel remains firmly in the metal camp and is easily accessible. Grönholm states “Simplicity is many times beautiful and I think this approach has served me well.”

Joining Mika is Status Minor vocalist Markku Kuikka and drummer Tom Rask with Grönholm handling guitar, bass and synth duties himself and this trio of musicians have created a big sounding album. Each recorded their parts at their home studios before Mika pieced the album together at his home studio. Six years spent working in one of the leading studios in Finland ensured this was an easy process for Mika to bring the whole album together and only mixing and mastering was handled outside of Grönholm’s remit.

In addition to the fine performances of the core trio of musicians the album also features guest appearances from guitarist Ty Tabor (King’s X) and keyboard whiz Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Billy Idol), Grönholm comments, “One goal was to have a few very good guests on this and it came true with Derek Sherinian and Ty Tabor. I mailed them and they liked the music samples on MySpace so they agreed to play a few solos and songs. As one can guess they nailed their parts really great, and it was very nice hear their tracks.”

With EYEWITNESS OF LIFE Grönholm have delivered a very strong debut album that is home to punchy songs, great musicianship, strong production and great artwork from Hugh Syme (Rush/Megadeth, etc.) and is released on April 17 2010 on Lion Music.

Genre – Progressive Metal

Charly Sahona is best known as the guitarist in the modern French progressive metal band Venturia. Late 2008 saw Charly begin work on what has become his debut solo album entitled NAKED THOUGHTS FROM A SILENT CHAOS. This eight-track release is built around heavy riffs, catchy vocal lines and crazy solos. Comparisons can be made if one was to fuse Dream Theater with Muse and 30 Seconds To Mars. This album offers a fresh sound, modern and direct, heavy and begs to be heard.

Genre – Progressive Rock

Progressive rock band Mastermind is back with their first full-length album of original music in almost a decade. INSOMNIA is the band’s seventh album and marks the album debut of vocalist Tracy McShane. Since their formation in New Jersey by brothers Bill and Rich Berends in 1986 the band have become synonymous with delivering original sounding progressive rock with diverse arrangements and room for a healthy dose of experimentation and combines with the keyboard interplay of Jens Johansson for a musically interesting package.

-Brian Howe Heads To Iraq For A “Command Performance”

United States Forces Is Funding March Concerts In Iraq

Howe to Perform From Upcoming New Release CIRCUS BAR Releasing February 26th On Frontiers Records

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Rock’s legendary voice, Brian Howe finds himself preparing for a history-making event and concert. Four March concerts are scheduled for Kuwait and Iraq and one is a “command performance” for the historic “Change Of Command Ceremony” – Baghdad – March 12, 2010.

The Bad Company/Brian Howe/Kuwait/Iraq mini-tour is funded (and supported) by the U.S. Forces Iraq/Entertainment Branch. The “Change Of Command Ceremony” marks the day the Iraq national police take partial command of Baghdad and it is the first phase of President Obama’s overall withdrawal of U.S. troops — Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Baghdad-based U.S. Forces Iraq had Bad Company’s Brian Howe on “their short list.” They called group’s agent, who told the band there was an offer from the Iraq Entertainment Branch requesting Brian and the band to perform four concerts in March. The call came however, just as Brian was making promotional plans for CIRCUS BAR. Quick and simple — CIRCUS BAR’s launch would be postponed for a week or two.

This out-of-the-blue “command performance” for the troops was an honor the band did not expect that day. The concerts in Kuwait and Iraq were not going to be ordinary concerts — there is a risk element in the mix. Brian and the band decided that even with their commitment to a heavy 2010 touring schedule, they could not pass up this chance of lifetime to give back to our men and women serving overseas.

“At first news, I could not believe what I was hearing — me going to Iraq? What are they going to do — parachute me in and ask me to sing on the way town to scare the Taliban? Seriously though, the boys and girls in uniform have been there for awhile without any real Rock ‘n Roll that I know of. I could not pass up the chance of doing concerts in Iraq. This time Baghdad is going to be rocked in a different way.

“We are heading to a city where bombings occur on a daily basis. However, this time, it will be our explosive rock ‘n roll show that shakes Baghdad — Bad Company style.

“The U.S. Forces division and their production expertise are well-known. This isn’t their first concert. Also, Jeff Thornton of Lone Wolf Entertainment is managing the dates along with my management/booking agency, Artists International Mgt. (Boca Raton, FL.). So I’d say we have our bases covered — Iraq and Baghdad here we come,” Howe said.

-Sweden Rock Festival Update

June 9-12, Solvesborg

Three more bands confirmed to Sweden Rock 2010!

WINGER (U.S.) – Only show in Europe summer 2010!

Not only was Winger one of the biggest melodic hard rock acts in the late ’80s/early ’90s, they were also bona fide world-class musicians. Front man Kip Winger used to play bass for Alice Cooper, drummer Rod Morgenstein came from the Dixie Dregs featuring Steve Morse, and guitarist Reb Beach has since gained even greater repute with Dokken, Whitesnake and Night Ranger. The band split up in 1994 after three albums, all of which are undisputed classics and containing such hits as “Seventeen,” “Miles Away” and “Down Incognito.” On their comeback album IV, released in 2006, Winger managed to transcend into more “serious” territories while still keep their old fans happy and more. Winger’s greatest asset was always their musical talent, not how cute they were 20 years ago. They prove this once more on their fifth and current album KARMA, and will undoubtedly do so at SRF as well.

20 years have passed since the Quireboys wrote pub rock history with their classic debut A BIT OF WHAT YOU FANCY, featuring gems like “7 O’ Clock,” “Hey You” and “I Don’t Love You Anymore.” However, after the follow-up BITTER SWEET & TWISTED the band called it a day, feeling out of fashion in the era of grunge. But gradually the Quireboys came to realize how many of their loyal fans that missed them, not least the Swedish ones. In 2001 the band released their comeback album THIS IS ROCK ‘N’ ROLL, to date succeded by WELL OILED (2004), HOMEWRECKERS & HEARTBREAKERS (2008) and the acoustic HALFPENNY DANCER (2009). In today’s Sweden, the Quireboys is a band that is cherished by old fans and young sleaze and pub rockers alike. And few live acts are capable of creating such a party atmosphere as Spike, Guy Griffin, Nigel Mogg and the lads.

Groove-based Southern Rock with a hint of AOR for good measure, is what Point Blank provides. Guitarist and main man Rusty Burns was once a guitar technician for ZZ Top, and the latter’s manager Bill Ham also discovered the potential of Point Blank. The band released six albums from 1976 to ’82, NICOLE (1981) becoming their biggest hit. Point Blank disbanded, largely due to legal wrangles, but returned to the scene in 2005. In 2009, they released their first studio album in seventeen years, FIGHT ON! Now the band makes their second appearance at SRF — a welcome return for all friends of hard-hitting melodies and that genuine Southern atmosphere.

-Debut Overmaster Album To See Release Via Cruz Del Sur Music

The debut release from Overmaster entitled MADNESS OF WAR will be released worldwide on April 23rd by Cruz Del Sur Music. Overmaster features the wailing power of Gustavo “Gus” Gabarró formerly of White Skull on vocals, along with several other professional and skilled Italian musicians hailing from Skylark, Highlord, Edge Of Forever and other talented Italian acts.

Over the miserable topic of war, Overmaster as a group were inspired to create dramatic and emotional atmospheres on their debut full-length release, where the description of the “madness of war” is expressed through a galloping and relentless rhythm section, textured guitar work, atmospheric keyboards and Gus’s expressive voice. Every piece falls into place, creating an album that might at first seem to be inspired by the Teutonic heavy metal school, but maintains a clear and self-identity thanks to the layered and multifaceted work of every member of the tightly-knit unit.

MADNESS OF WAR was recorded, mixed and mastered at Fear Studio during the crossover into 2010, with the usual high standard sound quality of Fear’s previous productions.

Band: Adrenaline 101
Label: STF Records
Genre: Rock
Release Date: Out Now

In the year of 2005, three young musicians from Zurich got together to form their own band after playing together in various Swiss acts. Whilst one rehearsal, Adrenaline 101 was born and soon after, they found the missing link to make the band complete.

In early 2007 a five-track E.P. was recorded, which was followed by a large amount of gigs on the Swiss club scene. In no time, rumor was spread and various known clubs have been sold out without any record yet released. The Alpenrock Band Contest 2007 was won and the band toured Spain supporting Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple/Black Sabbath).

Fueled by the overwhelming live response, the recordings for their debut album TWELVE STEP PROGRAM began in late 2008. Recorded and produced by themselves, a fascinating rock album was born including 12 tracks which sparkle over different stages of rock history through a remarkable sound they call their own.

TWELVE STEP PROGRAM was mixed in Västerös/Sweden by Fredrik Kjellin, who is known for his work with Mothers Finest or Glenn Hughes. The mastering duties have been accomplished by legendary George Marino of Sterling Sound in New York City.

Band: Dave Rox
Album Title: s/t
Genre: Hard Rock/AOR
Release Date: TBA

under construction

The Dave Rox project started in 2006, when Davide Barbieri (Dave Rox) did listen to some demos to Michele Luppi (Killing Touch, Los Angeles, ex-Vision Divine), his vocal coach at that time, who immediately offered him to cooperate for the realization of an album, so they started to work on the arrangement of the songs. Meanwhile, Davide knows the guitarist Stefano Zeni, they play together in a rock cover band for a while and he saw immediately the enormous potential of this guy so he knew he had found the right guitarist for the project.

The other two guys who joined the band were Roberto Galli on bass and Andrea Zingrillo on drums. The records started in the summer of 2007 and ended in late 2009, a long hard work trying to get the best from the debut album.

Produced by Michele Luppi, the sound that emerges is an old-style hard rock / AOR, with big drums, stunning guitars and catchy choruses, all mixed and mastered by Roberto Priori (Killing Touch, Michele Luppi’s Heaven).

After some changes in the band’s lineup with the incoming of Marcello Suzzani on bass and Fabrizio Uccellini on drums, the guys are ready to spread their music all over the world.

The Band:
Davide “Dave Rox” Barbieri – All Vocals & Keyboards
Stefano Zeni: Guitars

Andrea Zingrillo: Drums (replaced by Fabrizio Uccellini)

Band: Two Choices
Album Title: HAVE YOU HEARD?
Genre: Pop/Rock
Release Date: Out Now!

Two Choices are a four-piece pop-rock band from Brighton. Influenced by everyone from Elton John to Bon Jovi to Green Day, the band are:

Ash Plank – Vocals/Keyboard
Tom Clarke – Guitar
Tim Cook – Bass
Ryan O’Sullivan – Drums

Together for 10 years this year and having played over 450 gigs across the U.K. and Europe, 2009 saw Two Choices win the title of ‘Best Indie Rock Band’ in playmusic pickup’s unsigned awards. This was following the release of the band’s debut mini-album LONGEST JOURNEY.

With around 1,000 copies of LONGEST JOURNEY sold at gigs alone, Two Choices decision to embrace the often overlooked pub scene in England alongside playing at clubs has really helped in building the band’s fanbase.

Building on this, 2010 stands to be an even more exciting year for the band. A new four-track E.P. titled HAVE YOU HEARD? (released January 25, 2010) forms the basis of two tours to Europe (including Holland, Italy, Germany and France) as well as plans for a two week tour of the U.S.A.!

The band’s ultimate aim is to become full-time, recording artists, but until then, getting on a tour with a well established band is the ideal scenario. Two Choices’ motto is simple… “Get out there, get heard.” And they’re definately getting out there! So… ‘HAVE YOU HEARD?’

Track listing:
1. Here We Go
2. Chasing Rio
3. I Believe
4. Angels

Band: Greeensleeves
Genre: Metal/Progressive
Release date: Out Now

Experimenting with traditional heavy, progressive and thrash metal, Brazilian quintet Greensleeves is the proof that persistence pays off. First formed in 1993, the band became an important player in the local heavy metal scene of Curitiba. However, Greensleeves was disbanded in 1998.

Almost a decade later, in 2007, vocalist Gui Nogueira, guitarists Victor Schmidlin and Cicero Baggio and bassist Joao Koerner reunited to record the band’s debut album THE ELEPHANT TRUTH, with Marlon Marquis on the drums. The record would be comprised of new songs, but also some of the band’s original tunes. The Internet had a vital role in the creative and production processes, as each of the band’s members was now living in a different city in Brazil. Recorded at Victor’s home studio, the album was released in June 2009.

For 2010 — now back to the 1997 lineup with Luis Requiao on the drums — Greensleeves aims at expanding the distribution of the album and is searching for deals with labels and online music stores.

The concept album THE ELEPHANT TRUTH was released in 2009, after two years of recording and production. The record is divided in 23 tracks and tells, nonlinearly and abstractly, the mental journey of a man in a coma. Inspired by the Asian tale depicted by American poet John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887) on his poem “The Blind Men And The Elephant,” the storyline of the album is full of metaphors about the diversity of truth and the ways of looking for it.

The album features, as special guest, the internationally renowned Alirio Netto, lead singer of progressive metal band Khallice. THE ELEPHANT TRUTH has been receiving very positive reviews by music critics in Brazil and abroad. The album is being market online by Digmetalworld ( http://www.digmetalworld.com/ ) and may also be purchased at iTunes Store ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-elephant-truth/id345801486 ) and CD Baby ( http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/gsleeves ).

The Band:
Guilherme Nogueira – Vocals
Victor H. Schmidlin – Guitars
Cicero Baggio – Guitars
João Koerner – Bass
Marlon Marquis – Drums

Track listing:

-So I’ve been surfing around Wikipedia lately, looking up random tidbits on bands and musicians. This week’s “find” is a book by former Saxon members Graham Oliver and Steve Dawson entitled “Saxon Drugs And Rock And Roll: The Real Spinal Tap,” from Tomahawk Press. There’s hype about it at http://www.tomahawkpress.com/saxon.html , dated 2008, but I’m not sure if it ever came out. The book features/will feature a foreword by Tap’s Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer). Why? Seems that while “researching material” for the film “This Is Spinal Tap!,” Shearer spent some time with Saxon, listening to and digesting numerous stories. Some of the tales resurfaced in the movie, and Shearer’s character Derek Smalls was also “heavily influenced” by Dawson. The book also has stories about Metallica, Motley Crue, Slade, Ozzy Osbourne, Motorhead, and more.

-That 30th anniversary reissue/anniversary package for Judas Priest’s BRITISH STEEL sure looks cool, and I will get it, but I have to admit I’m bummed there aren’t any new liner notes. I know the 2001 reissue had some but they were skimpy. At least the set’s DVD has a new “making of” interview…but yet again I’m a little bummed drummer Scott Travis apparently isn’t part of it. I know he was still a decade away from joining Priest when the album was recorded, but I think it’d be cool to hear him talk about it anyway — maybe get his perspective as a kid/fan hearing the album for the first time in 1980, or how he’s changed up the drum parts in concert over the years. Ah well. I obsess when it comes to the Priest.

-Big apologies to our pal Mark Morton for neglecting to mention his follow-up article on HammerFall and the Winter Olympics. In issue #536 we plugged his first article, about how the band was mentioned during coverage of Olympic Curling, but last week I forgot to mention his subsequent interview with guitarist Oscar Dronjak. So this isn’t exactly *super* timely anymore, but check out http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-5629-Heavy-Metal-Examiner~y2010m2d26-Exclusive-interview-HAMMERFALL-guitarist-Oscar-Dronjak-speaks-on-2010-Olympics-and-touring-America .

-Here we go… <sigh> I’m just waiting for Keith Abt to get a big head and demand a raise after being quoted in that Beatallica press release… 🙂

-In my current playlist: Overmaster – MADNESS OF WAR (Cruz Del Sur Music).

GIANT – PROMISE LAND (B+) Frontiers, 2010
13 tracks, RT: 57:06, multimedia section

21 years after the release of the landmark melodic rock album LAST OF THE RUNAWAYS, Giant is back with 13 new songs that seem to suggest no time has passed at all. PROMISE LAND sees the return of original members David Huff and Mike Brignardello along with newcomers Terry Brock (Strangeways, Seventh Key) and John Roth (Winger), with contributions from celebrated guitarist/songwriter/producer Dann Huff and the team who brought you last year’s phenomenal W.E.T. project. PROMISE LAND is commercial hard rock just like you remember it from those fertile days, with requisite arena rockers and ballads all included. Predictable might be too harsh a word for what’s on offer here, but you do get a sense of deja vu on much of the material, with fairly standard AOR such as “Never Surrender” and “Our Love” sitting alongside superior tracks like “Prisoner Of Love” and “Two Worlds.” So yeah, PROMISE LAND will likely bring up the feeling of “I’ve heard this all before,” but there’s some excellent songwriting here and strong performances by Brock, who often channels Steve Perry and Gil Moore, and Roth, who recalls mentor Reb Beach. Recommended for fans of Journey, Foreigner and Winger, PROMISE LAND ultimately succeeds at returning us to another time and place…
